As one of the common physical materials in Chinese archaeological excavations, ancient bronzes are an essential basis for studying the development of Chinese bronze culture, which is of great significance for exploring the development law of ancient human civilization and reconstructing ancient human society. As China’s infrastructure advances, the number of bronzes unearthed by archaeological excavations continues to increase. However, environmental damage to artefacts is very complex, whether the buried environment of the artefacts or the above-ground environment when the artefacts are unearthed, leading to different health problems for the excavated bronzes. A scientific assessment of these bronzes needs to be carried out prior to extraction to inform staff how they should be extracted, moved, and transported and how they should be restored afterwards. In response to the above problems, this paper takes excavated bronzes from archaeological sites as the research object and, by analysing and studying the relevant industry standards and the disease characteristics of bronzes, establishes a three-tier indicator framework for assessing the health of bronzes in a layer-by-layer refinement and proposes quantitative indicators with typical correlations. Through extensive research and testing, we screened out efficient, non-destructive, convenient and reliable assessment and testing methods and assessment models that combine subjective and objective aspects suitable for archaeological sites. On this basis, the paper achieves a scientific and practical assessment of the health status of bronzes excavated from archaeological sites. After repeated experiments, a set of comprehensive methods for quickly and conveniently assessing the health status of excavated bronzes was proposed for the first time and successfully applied to the archaeological excavation site of Sanxingdui site in Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, China.

Background To explore the dosimetric difference between IMRT-VB plan based on the establishment of external expansion structure and virtual bolus (VB) and IMRT-SF based on the skin flash (SF) tool of the Eclipse treatment planning system in postoperative chest wall target intensity modulation radiotherapy plan of breast cancer. Methods Twenty patients with breast cancer were randomly selected as subjects to develop IMRT-VB plan based on virtual bolus and IMRT-SF plan based on skin flash tool of Eclipse treatment planning system. The planning target volume, monitor unit (MU) of every single treatment and the dosimetric parameters of organ at risk (OARs) were recorded. Paired t-test was used for normal distribution data while nonparametric paired Wilcoxon rank sum test was used for non-normal distribution data. Results Both IMRT-VB and IMRT-SF plan can expand outward to the chest wall skin and meet the dose requirements of clinical prescription. The conformal index, the homogeneity index, D2%, D98% and D50% were significantly better in IMRT-SF plan than those in IMRT-VB plan (P P P Conclusion Our study indicated that IMRT-SF plan displayed clinical application superiority compared to IMRT-VB plan, and the operation steps of which are simpler and faster. Besides, IMRT-SF plan took advantages in achieve effective external expansion of skin dose intensity and OARs protection.

Background Highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) can successfully suppress human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) viral replication and reconstruct immune function reconstruction in HIV-1-infected patients. However, about 15–30% of HIV-1-infected patients still fail to recover their CD4+ T cell counts after HAART treatment, which means immune reconstruction failure. Pyroptosis plays an important role in the death of CD4+ T cells in HIV-1- infected patients. The study aims to explore the association between the expression of pyroptosis in peripheral blood and immune function reconstruction in HIV-1- infected patients. Methods One hundred thirty-five HIV-1-infected patients including immunological non-responders (INR) group, immunological responders (IR) group and normal immune function control (NC) group were analyzed. The expression of GSDMD and Caspase-1 in peripheral blood of HIV-1-infected patients were measured by qPCR. The concentrations of GSDMD, Caspase-1, IL-1β and IL-18 in the peripheral serum were quantified by ELISA. The associations between the expression of pyroptosis in peripheral blood and immune function reconstruction were analyzed using multivariate logistic models. Results The relative expression of GSDMD mRNA and caspase-1 mRNA in peripheral blood, as well as the expression of IL-18 cytokine in the INR, were significantly higher than those in the IR and NC (P P > 0.05). Multivariate logistic analysis showed that the patients with baseline CD4+ T cell counts less than 100 cells/μL (aOR 7.051, 95% CI 1.115–44.592, P = 0.038), high level of expression of Caspase-1mRNA (aOR 2.803, 95% CI 1.065–7.377, P = 0.037) and IL-18 cytokine (aOR 10.131, 95% CI 1.616–63.505, P = 0.013) had significant poor CD4+ T cell recovery. Conclusions The baseline CD4+ T cell counts less than 100 cells/μL, high relative expression of Caspase-1 mRNA, and high expression of IL-18 cytokine are associated factors that affect the reconstruction of immune function.

Background The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) is considered to be the third-highest malignant tumor among all carcinomas. The alterations in cellular bioenergetics (metabolic reprogramming) are associated with several malignant phenotypes in CRC, such as tumor cell proliferation, invasion, metastasis, chemotherapy resistance, as well as promotes its immune escape. However, the expression pattern of metabolism-associated genes that mediate metabolic reprogramming in CRC remains unknown. Methods In this study, we screened out CPT2 by investigating the function of a series of metabolism-related genes in CRC progression by integrating the data from the TCGA and GEO databases. Next, we collected CRC tissues (n = 24) and adjacent non-tumor tissues (n = 8) and analyzed mRNA levels by qRT-PCR, and proteins levels of CPT2 in CRC cell lines by western blotting. CCK-8 assay, colony formation assay, Edu assay and flow cytometry assay were performed to assess the effects of CPT2 on proliferation in vitro. Results We identified 236 metabolism-related genes that are differentially expressed in colorectal cancer, of which 49 up-regulated and 187 down-regulated, and found CPT2 as the most significant gene associated with favorable prognosis in CRC. It was revealed that CPT2 expression was consistently down-regulated in CRC cell lines and tissues. Moreover, knockdown of CPT2 could promote the proliferative ability of CRC cells, whereas over-expression of CPT2 significantly suppressed the cell growth. Conclusion In summary, CPT2 can provide new insights about the progression and occurrence of the tumor as it acts as an independent prognostic factor in CRC sufferers.

A novel metal–organic cage 1·8PF6− was precisely self-assembled using polynitrogen pyrazine-triazine ligand as linker L1 and bpyPd(NO3)2 as coordination corner (where 1·8PF6− = [(bpyPd)4L12]8+·8PF6−; L1 = 4, 6-bis((pyrazin-2-ylmethyl)amino)-1,3,5-triazin-2-ol); bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) in aqueous solution. The capsule-like coordination cage 1·8PF6− was fully characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, 1H and 13C-NMR and ESI–MS analysis. In the crystal structure, cage 1 closely stacked into a stable 3D framework structure with a regular channel. By employment of such crystalline adsorbent material, permanganate anion (MnO4−) can be rapidly adsorbed into cationic channel and exchanged with hexafluorophosphate anion from water, in which the crystallinity of cage 1 remained unaffected before and after adsorption. Moreover, the anion adsorption and exchanging behavior was revealed by Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), powder X-ray diffraction analysis (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron adsorption and fluorescence spectroscopy.

Endometrial cancer is generally one of the most evident malignant tumours of the female reproductive system, and the mechanisms underlying its cell proliferation and apoptosis are key to research in gynaecological oncology. In the paper, the in-depth molecular mechanism by which DJ-1 protein regulates the proliferation and apoptosis of Ishikawa cells was investigated. DJ-1 knockdown and overexpressing Ishikawa stable cell lines were established by lentiviral transduction. The levels of DJ-1 and noncanonical NF-κB signaling proteins were evaluated by Western blotting. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and flow cytometry were applied to analyze the cell viability and apoptosis. Co-immunoprecipitation experiment was utilized to assess the DJ-1-Cezanne interaction. The results showed that DJ-1 overexpression conferred apoptosis resistance and high proliferation on Ishikawa cells, while DJ-1 knockdown in Ishikawa cells produced the opposite results. These findings again suggested that DJ-1 inhibits the apoptosis and promotes the proliferation of Ishikawa cells. More crucially, further data showed that the noncanonical NF-κB activation was required for the regulation of Ishikawa cell proliferation and apoptosis by DJ-1. Meanwhile, it was found that noncanonical NF-κB pathway may be activated by DJ-1 interacting with and negatively regulating Cezanne in Ishikawa cells. Overall, this work revealed that DJ-1 associates with and negatively regulates Cezanne and consequently triggers the noncanonical NF-κB activation, thereby regulating Ishikawa cell proliferation and apoptosis.

Introduction Melasma is a chronic and recurrent skin problem for which an effective therapy is currently lacking. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has recently emerged as a novel treatment for melasma, but to date there has been no systematic evaluation of its efficacy and safety. Methods The Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and the Cochrane Library databases were searched for relevant articles using the search items “melasma,” “chloasma” and “platelet‐rich plasma.” STATA version 15.1 software was used to analyze data. Study outcomes were calculated using standardized mean differences with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results The database search identified ten studies involving 395 adult patients that met the inclusion criteria and were included in the meta-analysis. Analysis of pre- and post-treatment data from these studies revealed that the post-treatment modified Melasma Area and Severity Index (mMASI) score decreased by 1.18 (95% CI 0.89–1.47; p = 0.02). Subjective satisfaction evaluation of PRP treatment showed that melasma treated with the combination therapy of PRP + microneedling may have been the most efficacious treatment compared to PRP alone or in combination with intradermal injection. Adverse reactions were minor, with only a few patients reporting local congestion, temporary erythema, hyperpigmentation and discoloration. Conclusion These results support the efficacy and safety of PRP used in combination or alone as treatment for melasma. As an important indicator to evaluate the suspension effect, the uniformity of solid particle distribution is directly related to mass transfer and reaction efficiency. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the solid particle distribution in viscous system. The particle distribution of a dense solid–liquid system composed of glass beads-malt syrup stirred by the propeller is investigated experimentally by optical probe method, and the effects of impeller speed, number of baffles, particle size, average solid concentration and liquid viscosity on the solid particle distribution are discussed. The results show that, compared with the radial direction, the axial concentration distribution in the stirred tank is more uneven, and the axial mixing index is about 2–5 times the radial one. With the increasing stirring speed, the axial mixing index decreases slowly at first, then sharply decreases after reaching the just off-bottom suspension speed, and finally tends to be stable. The uniformity varies inversely with particle size and average solid concentration and directly with liquid viscosity. When the same effect is achieved, less energy is required without baffles.

Oxaliplatin is widely used in the frontline treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC), but an estimated 50% of patients will eventually stop responding to treatment due to acquired resistance. This study revealed that diminished MEIS1 expression was detected in CRC and harmed the survival of CRC patients. MEIS1 impaired CRC cell viabilities and tumor growth in mice and enhanced CRC cell sensitivity to oxaliplatin by preventing DNA damage repair. Mechanistically, oxaliplatin resistance following MEIS1 suppression was critically dependent on enhanced FEN1 expression. Subsequently, we confirmed that EZH2-DNMT3a was assisted by lncRNA ELFN1-AS1 in locating the promoter of MEIS1 to suppress MEIS1 transcription epigenetically. Based on the above, therapeutics targeting the role of MEIS1 in oxaliplatin resistance were developed and our results suggested that the combination of oxaliplatin with either ELFN1-AS1 ASO or EZH2 inhibitor GSK126 could largely suppress tumor growth and reverse oxaliplatin resistance. This study highlights the potential of therapeutics targeting ELFN1-AS1 and EZH2 in cell survival and oxaliplatin resistance, based on their controlling of MEIS1 expression, which deserve further verification as a prospective therapeutic strategy.

Deaths from ovarian cancer usually occur when patients succumb to overwhelmingly numerous and widespread micrometastasis. Whereas epithelial-mesenchymal transition is required for epithelial ovarian cancer cells to acquire metastatic potential, the cellular phenotype at secondary sites and the mechanisms required for the establishment of metastatic tumors are not fully determined. Using in vitro and in vivo models we show that secondary epithelial ovarian cancer cells (sEOC) do not fully re-acquire the molecular signature of the primary epithelial ovarian cancer cells from which they are derived. Despite displaying an epithelial morphology, sEOC maintains a high expression of the mesenchymal effector, TWIST-1. TWIST-1 is however transcriptionally non-functional in these cells as it is precluded from binding its E-box by the PcG protein, CBX7. Deletion of CBX7 in sEOC was sufficient to reactivate TWIST-1-induced transcription, prompt mesenchymal transformation, and enhanced tumorigenicity in vivo. This regulation allows secondary tumors to achieve an epithelial morphology while conferring the advantage of prompt reversal to a mesenchymal phenotype upon perturbation of CBX7. We also describe a sub-classification of ovarian tumors based on CBX7 and TWIST-1 expression, which predicts clinical outcomes and patient prognosis.

Plant hormones not only play important roles in regulating plant growth and development, but they also promote cell dedifferentiation and redifferentiation, which play an important role in tissue culture. In the present study, an efficient method of promoting callus plant regeneration for the tissue culture of Brassica juncea (L.) was proposed. We discovered that the callus could be efficiently induced into redifferentiation by 6.8 × 10− 3 µmol/l thidiazuron (TDZ), a cytokinin analogue. To analyze the molecular mechanism of tissue culture, we sequenced the transcriptome of the callus under different culture conditions at two developmental stages. A total of 5362 differentially expressed genes were identified in the TDZ treatments; among them, the expression of 4676 genes was upregulated and that of 686 was downregulated. In the cytokinin signal transduction pathway, seven genes in the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) response regulator (ARR) family were upregulated. In addition, cytokinin affected gene expression in other plant hormone signaling pathways, such as the auxin, ethylene, and brassinosteroid pathways. Most of these genes, such as auxin/indole-3-acetic acid (Aux/IAA) genes and ethylene response factors (ERF-1, ERF-2, and ERF-6), generally showed upregulated expression, which also participated in the regulation of callus plant regeneration. This study provides novel insight into the molecular mechanism of callus plant regeneration in Brassica juncea, which could also provide reference for other plant tissue cultures. In Brassica juncea, 6.8 × 10− 3 µmol/l TDZ resulted in the highest regeneration rate of callus, and the genes involved in cytokinin and auxin signal transduction pathways participated in the redifferentiation progress.

ObjectivesTo investigate the prognosis including major adverse kidney events within 30 days (MAKE30) and 90-day and 1-year adverse outcome in hospitalized patients with post-contrast acute kidney injury (PC-AKI) to identify high-risk factors.MethodsThis retrospective observational study included 288 PC-AKI patients selected from 277,898 patients admitted to hospitals from January 2015 to December 2015. PC-AKI was defined according to the 2018 guideline of European Society of Urogenital Radiology. Multivariable Cox regression and logistic regression analyses were used to analyze main outcome and risk factors.ResultsPC-AKI patients with AKI stage ≥ 2 had much higher incidence of MAKE30 than those with AKI stage 1 (RR = 7.027, 95% CI 4.918–10.039). Persistent renal dysfunction, heart failure, central nervous system failure, baseline eGFR 2, oliguria or anuria, blood urea nitrogen ≥ 7.14 mmol/L, respiratory failure, and shock were independent risk factors of 90-day or 1-year adverse prognosis (p ConclusionsPC-AKI is not always a transient, benign creatininopathy, but can result in adverse outcome. Taxonomic convergence is common in bacterial communities but its underlying molecular mechanism remains largely unknown. We thus conducted a time-series transcriptional analysis of a convergent two-species synthetic community that grew in a closed broth-culture system. By analyzing the gene expression and monitoring the community structure, we found that gene expression mainly changed in the early stage, whereas community structure significantly changed in the late stage. The significant change of gene expression occurred even at the very beginning, which was designated as “0 h effect”, suggesting the effect of species interaction on gene expression was inevitable. Besides, the effect of interaction on gene expression has a “population effect”, which means that majority species have greater impact on gene expressions of minority species than vice versa. Furthermore, gene set enrichment analysis revealed that among a total of 63 unique pathways (occupying about 50% of all the metabolic pathways in both species), 40 (63%) were consistently suppressed, 16 (25%) were conditionally expressed, and only 7 (11%) were consistently activated. Overall, they were strictly regulated by both time and initial structures. Therefore, we proposed that microorganism responses and the induced gene expression changes play important roles in the process of community succession.

A floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) is a coupled system where a wind turbine with flexible blades interacts with a moored platform in wind and waves. This paper presents a high-fidelity aero-hydro-mooring-elastic analysis tool developed for FOWT applications. A fully coupled analysis is carried out for an OC4 semi-submersible FOWT under a combined wind/wave condition. Responses of the FOWT are investigated in terms of platform hydrodynamics, mooring dynamics, wind turbine aerodynamics and blade structural dynamics. Interactions between the FOWT and fluid flow are also analysed by visualising results obtained via the CFD approach. Through this work, the capabilities of the tool developed are demonstrated and impacts of different parts of the system on each other are investigated.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and primary disease relapse remain challenging problems after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). We sought to assess the association between CMV infection and disease relapse after transplantation. PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, SCI, and Chinese Biomedicine Databases were searched up to July 1, 2018, for all studies that investigate pre-transplant CMV serostatus, CMV replication, and primary disease relapse in allo-HSCT patients with hematologic malignancies. Meta-analysis of 24 eligible cohort studies showed a significantly lower relapse risk after allo-HSCT in patients with CMV replication in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (HR = 0.64, 95% CI, 0.50-0.83; P 0.001) subgroup. However, CMV replication was associated with increased non-relapse mortality (NRM) in AML patients (HR = 1.64, 95% CI, 1.46-1.85; P 0.001), but not associated with overall survival (OS) or graft-versus-host disease for AML patients (P 0.05). There was no association between pre-transplant CMV serostatus and disease relapse, although D-/R- was associated with better OS in acute leukemia patients (HR = 0.89, 95% CI, 0.83-0.96; P = 0.003). In AML patients, CMV replication may be a protective predictor against disease relapse, although the potential benefit of CMV replication is offset by increased NRM.

Background Prevalence of neonatal microcephaly in populations without Zika-epidemics is sparse. The study aimed to report baseline prevalence of congenital microcephaly and its relationship with prenatal factors in an area at risk of Zika outbreak. Methods This study included singletons born after 24 gestational weeks in 2017–2018 at four hospitals in Guangzhou, China. Microcephaly was defined as a head circumference at birth >3SD below the mean for sex and gestational age. Prevalence of microcephaly was estimated by binomial exact method. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine the associations of microcephaly with prenatal factors. The population attributable fraction (PAF) for associated risk factors was calculated. Results Of 46,610 live births included, 154 (3.3, 95% CI 2.8–3.9 per 1000 live births) microcephalies were identified. Maternal hepatitis B virus carriers (HBV, OR 1.80, 95% CI 1.05–3.10) and primipara (OR 2.68, 95% CI 1.89–3.81) had higher risk of having a microcephalic baby. Higher prevalence of microcephaly was observed in women who had premature labor (OR 1.98, 95% CI 1.17–3.34) and had a baby with fetal growth restriction (OR 16.38, 95% CI 11.81–22.71). Four identified factors (HBV, primiparity, preterm labor, and fetal growth restriction) contributed to 66.4% of the risk of microcephaly. Conclusions The prevalence of microcephaly in Guangzhou was higher than expected. This study identified four prenatal risk factors that, together, contributed to two-thirds of the increased risk of microcephaly. This is the first reported association between maternal HBV carrier status and microcephaly.

Background Surface-guided radiation therapy can be used to continuously monitor a patient’s surface motions during radiotherapy by a non-irradiating, noninvasive optical surface imaging technique. In this study, machine learning methods were applied to predict external respiratory motion signals and predict internal liver motion in this therapeutic context. Methods Seven groups of interrelated external/internal respiratory liver motion samples lasting from 5 to 6 min collected simultaneously were used as a dataset, Dv. Long short-term memory (LSTM) and support vector regression (SVR) networks were then used to establish external respiratory signal prediction models (LSTMpred/SVRpred) and external/internal respiratory motion correlation models (LSTMcorr/SVRcorr). These external prediction and external/internal correlation models were then combined into an integrated model. Finally, the LSTMcorr model was used to perform five groups of model updating experiments to confirm the necessity of continuously updating the external/internal correlation model. The root-mean-square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and maximum absolute error (MAX_AE) were used to evaluate the performance of each model. Results The models established using the LSTM neural network performed better than those established using the SVR network in the tasks of predicting external respiratory signals for latency-compensation (RMSE Conclusions The LSTM networks outperform SVR networks at predicting external respiratory signals and internal liver motion because of LSTM’s strong ability to deal with time-dependencies. The LSTM-based integrated model performs well at predicting liver motion from external respiratory signals with system latencies of up to 450 ms. It is necessary to update the external/internal correlation model continuously.

Engrailed-2 (EN2), a member of the engrailed homeobox family, has been shown to be abnormally expressed in a variety of cancers. However, the expression and the clinical significance of EN2 in colorectal cancer (CRC) are largely unknown. Firstly, we found that EN2 acted as an oncogene in CRC. EN2 was upregulated in colorectal cancer tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues. Higher EN2 expression was significantly associated with poorer survival rate. Knockdown of EN2 markedly inhibited proliferation and migration capacities of SW480 cells in vitro, and suppressed tumorigenicity in vivo. Mechanistically, Chemokine ligand 20 (CCL20), a member of the C-C motif chemokine subfamily, was identified as a direct target gene of EN2 in CRC. CCL20 expression was positively correlated with EN2 expression in CRC tissues. Moreover, EN2 promoted the proliferation and migration of CRC cells by regulating the expression of CCL20 in vitro. These results suggest that EN2 plays a critical role in the CRC tumor progression and may serve as a potential target for CRC prevention and therapy.

Background Surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT) employs a non-invasive real-time optical surface imaging (OSI) technique for patient surface motion monitoring during radiotherapy. The main purpose of this study is to verify the real-time tracking accuracy of SGRT for respiratory motion and provide a fitting method to detect the time delay of gating. Methods A respiratory motion phantom was utilized to simulate respiratory motion using 17 cosine breathing pattern curves with various periods and amplitudes. The motion tracking of the phantom was performed by the Catalyst™ system. The tracking accuracy of the system (with period and amplitude variations) was evaluated by analyzing the adjusted coefficient of determination (A_R2) and root mean square error (RMSE). Furthermore, 13 actual respiratory curves, which were categorized into regular and irregular patterns, were selected and then simulated by the phantom. The Fourier transform was applied to the respiratory curves, and tracking accuracy was compared through the quantitative analyses of curve similarity using the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC). In addition, the time delay of amplitude-based respiratory-gating radiotherapy based on the OSI system with various beam hold times was tested using film dosimetry for the Elekta Versa-HD and Varian Edge linacs. A dose convolution-fitting method was provided to accurately measure the beam-on and beam-off time delays. Results A_R2 and RMSE for the cosine curves were 0.9990–0.9996 and 0.110–0.241 mm for periods ranging from 1 s to 10 s and 0.9990–0.9994 and 0.059–0.175 mm for amplitudes ranging from 3 mm to 15 mm. The PCC for the actual respiratory curves ranged from 0.9955 to 0.9994, which was not significantly affected by breathing patterns. For gating radiotherapy, the average beam-on and beam-off time delays were 1664 ± 72 and 25 ± 30 ms for Versa-HD and 303 ± 45 and 34 ± 25 ms for Edge, respectively. The time delay was relatively stable as the beam hold time increased. Conclusions The OSI technique provides high accuracy for respiratory motion tracking. The proposed dose convolution-fitting method can accurately measure the time delay of respiratory-gating radiotherapy. When the OSI technique is used for respiratory-gating radiotherapy, the time delay for the beam-on is considerably longer than the beam-off.

Carbon nanodots (C-dots) have attracted great attention as a new class of luminescent nanomaterials. In order to better understand the basic behavior of C-dots in biological systems, the binding characteristics of C-dots with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and human serum albumin (HSA) were investigated using spectroscopic approaches and isothermal titration calorimetry at pH 7.4. We found that the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA and HSA was quenched by the C-dots with a dynamic quenching mode. It was proved that the C-dots had little influence on the conformation of BSA and HSA by their UV–vis and circular dichroism spectra. Some important thermodynamic parameters were calculated, and the positive values of ΔH° and ΔS° indicate that the binding process was endothermic, and that the interaction was driven by favorable entropy and unfavorable enthalpy. It also showed that the hydrophobic force played a major role in the binding process.

Two Co(II) coordination polymers (CPs) [Co(DCTP)(L1)]n (1) and [Co(DCTP)(L2)·(H2O)2]n (2), were synthesized from hydrothermal reaction of Co2+ ions with the 2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid (H2DCTP) and two semi-rigid bis(benzimidazole) ligands (L1 = 1,3-bis(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, L2 = 1,2-bis(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene), and structurally characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis and FT–IR. The thermal stabilities and luminescence properties of 1–2 were investigated. The two CPs exhibit 2D (4,4)-connected layer structures, which are further extended to 3D supramolecular architectures by π⋯π stacking interactions for 1 and classical O–H⋯O hydrogen-bonding interactions for 2, respectively. In addition, two complexes show promising photocatalytic activities for the degradation of methylene blue under UV irradiation.

Identifying the spatial distribution and degree of heavy metal contamination in the soils is required for urban environmental management. Magnetic measurement provides a rapid means of determining spatial distribution and degree of soil pollution and identifying various anthropogenic sources of heavy metals. The purpose of this study was to characterize the magnetic signature of heavy metal contamination and identify the sources of heavy metals in urban soils from steel industrial city. A total of 115 urban topsoils from Anshan city, Northeast China, were collected and determined for magnetic properties and heavy metal concentration. Magnetic susceptibility (χlf) and saturation isothermal remanent magnetization (SIRM) were determined as proxy for ferrimagnetic mineral concentration. Magnetic minerals were identified by using Curie temperature, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS). The Pearson’ correlation and matrix cluster analyses were used to establish the relationship between magnetic parameters and heavy metal concentrations. 3D violent free-surface flows are modelled by multi-resolution moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) method. Firstly, a 2D dam-break flow with an obstacle is performed. This shows that multi-resolution MPS can provide the integrated and clear shape of free surface as that by universally fine (Uni-Fine) with high-resolution particles in the entire domain. Then the multi-resolution MPS method is employed to carry out 3D violent free-surface flows, including dam-break and water entry. In the dam-break case, a relative rational pressure field can be provided and the predicted impact pressures are also compared with experimental data. In the 3D water entry case, the present method can capture complex phenomena including largely free-surface deformations and splashing. The penetration depth of the cylinder is also close to experimental data.

Biofortifying food crops with essential minerals would help to alleviate mineral deficiencies in humans. Detection of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for mineral nutrient contents in rice was conducted using backcross inbred lines derived from an interspecific cross of Oryza sativa × O. rufipogon. The population was grown in Hangzhou and Lingshui, with the contents of Mg, Zn, Fe, Mn, Cu and Se in brown rice measured in both trials and that in milled rice tested in Hangzhou only. A total of 24 QTLs for mineral element contents were identified, including two for both the brown and milled rice, 17 for brown rice only, and five for milled rice only. All the seven QTLs detected for the mineral contents in milled rice and 13 of the 19 QTLs for the contents in brown rice had the enhancing alleles derived from O. rufipogon. Flow instability in a centrifugal fan was studied using energy gradient theory. Numerical simulation was performed for the threedimensional turbulent flow field in a centrifugal fan. The flow is governed by the three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations coupled with the RNG k-e turbulent model. The finite volume method was used to discretize the governing equations and the Semi-implicit method for pressure linked equation (SIMPLE) algorithm is employed to iterate the system of the equations. The interior flow field in the centrifugal fan and the distribution of the energy gradient function K are obtained at different flow rates. According to the energy gradient method, the area with larger value of K is the place where the flow loses stability easier. The results show that instability is easier to generate in the regions of impeller outlet and volute tongue. The air flow near the hub is more stable than that near the shroud. That is due to the influences of variations of the velocity and the inlet angle along the axial direction. With the decrease of the flow rate, instability zone in a blade channel moves to the impeller inlet from the outlet and the unstable regions in different channels develop in opposite direction to the rotation of impeller.

Along with the flourishing of the wind energy industry, floating offshore wind turbines have aroused much interest among the academia as well as enterprises. In this paper, the effects of the supporting platform motion on the aerodynamics of a floating wind turbine are studied using the open source CFD framework OpenFOAM. The platform motion responses, including surge, heave and pitch, are superimposed onto the rotation of the wind turbine. Thrust and torque on the wind turbine are compared and analysed for the cases of different platform motion patterns together with the flow field. It is shown that the movement of the supporting platform can have large influences on a floating offshore wind turbine and thus needs to be considered carefully during the design process.

The prismy YFeO3 with (202)-preferred orientation was successfully synthesized through hydrothermal process at 240 ∘C for 9 h with the ratio 1:1 of Y:Fe. The prepared YFeO3 powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), physical properties measurement system (PPMS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), respectively. The results show the prepared YFeO3 has (202)-preferred orientation. The prismatic YFeO3 powders mainly consist of three elements (Y, Fe, and O), and atom ratio matched well with the formula. YFeO3 can simultaneously present obvious weak ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic properties. In addition, the Neel temperature of YFeO3 is 349 ∘C.

Background Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to an increased risk of asthma. This study aimed to quantify the effect of early life vitamin D status on asthma and wheeze later in life. Methods PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and CNKI databases, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Google Scholar were searched up to July 2017. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies with vitamin D level in blood (maternal or cord or infant) or intake (maternal intake during pregnancy or infant intake) and asthma and/or wheeze. Two reviewers independently extracted data. Fixed- and random-effects models were used to summarize the risk estimates of comparisons between highest vs. lowest vitamin D categories. Results Of the 1485 studies identified, three RCTs and 33 cohort studies were included. We did not include the RCTs (1619 participants) in the meta-analysis as the comparators and outcome definitions were heterogenous. Three RCTs reported a non-statistically significant effect of vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy on offspring wheeze/asthma at 3 years of age. Pooled estimates of cohort studies suggest no association between antenatal blood vitamin D levels or vitamin D intake and offspring asthma assessed either > 5 years or ≤ 5 years. The estimate for blood vitamin D remained unchanged when two studies assessing asthma in adulthood were excluded, but a significant inverse association emerged between vitamin D intake and childhood asthma. We found no association between antenatal vitamin D level and wheeze. On the other hand, vitamin D intake during pregnancy may have a protective effect against wheeze. Conclusions The pooled estimates from cohort studies show no association between antenatal blood vitamin D level and asthma/wheeze in later life. Whereas, the pooled estimates from cohort studies suggest that antenatal vitamin D intake may have an effect on childhood asthma > 5 years or childhood wheeze. The inconsistent results from studies assessing vitamin D either in blood or intake may be explained by previously reported non-linear association between blood vitamin D3 and childhood asthma. Further trials with enough power and longer follow-up time should be conducted to confirm the results. Background The bcr-abl fusion gene is the pathological origin of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and plays a critical role in the resistance of imatinib. Thus, bcr-abl disruption-based novel therapeutic strategy may warrant exploration. In our study, we were surprised to find that the characteristics of bcr-abl sequences met the design requirements of zinc finger nucleases (ZFNs). Methods We constructed the ZFNs targeting bcr-abl with high specificity through simple modular assembly approach. Western blotting was conducted to detect the expression of BCR-ABL and phosphorylation of its downstream STAT5, ERK and CRKL in CML cells. CCK8 assay, colony-forming assay and flow cytometry (FCM) were used to evaluate the effect of the ZFNs on the viablity and apoptosis of CML cells and CML CD34+ cells. Moreover, mice model was used to determine the ability of ZFNs in disrupting the leukemogenesis of bcr-abl in vivo. Results The ZFNs skillfully mediated 8-base NotI enzyme cutting site addition in bcr-abl gene of imatinib sensitive and resistant CML cells by homology-directed repair (HDR), which led to a stop codon and terminated the translation of BCR-ABL protein. As expected, the disruption of bcr-abl gene induced cell apoptosis and inhibited cell proliferation. Notably, we obtained similar result in CD34+ cells from CML patients. Moreover, the ZFNs significantly reduced the oncogenicity of CML cells in mice. Conclusion These results reveal that the bcr-abl gene disruption based on ZFNs may provide a treatment choice for imatinib resistant or intolerant CML patients.
