Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS) is a rare inherited disorder of abnormal lymphocyte apoptosis, leading to chronic lymphoproliferation. It presents as lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly and autoimmune phenomena. Pure red cell aplasia is characterized by normochromic normocytic anemia, reticulocytopenia, and absence of erythroblasts from a normal bone marrow. Only few lymphoproliferative disorders have been associated with erythroid aplasia. The authors are reporting a case of ALPS associated with red cell aplasia in a 7-y-old girl.

Iron deposition can occur in the kidneys as a result of hemolysis or extensive iron overload from transfusions. With T2* MRI, renal iron deposition can be visualized. In this report, renal corticomedullary junction iron deposition is noted using T2* MRI in a boy with red cell aplasia. The renal corticomedullary junction iron deposition is an indication of the severity of his iron overload. This is an unusual finding and brings clinical attention to the boy's renal function for further evaluation.

Pyoderma gangrenosum is an inflammatory condition of the skin commonly associated with inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis, but also associated with various hematological malignancies. We describe its association with pure red cell aplasia in a four year old boy who presented with progressive skin lesions, fever and pallor, and improved with corticosteroid therapy.

Objective of study: Aplasia of the erythropoiesis without any other affection of bone marrow function, is seen as two major conditions in children: a congenital chronic form (Diamond Blackfan anaemia, DBA) and a transient form (transient erythroblastopenia of childhood, TEC). Aplasia may also be caused by parvovirus B 19 in children as well as in adults, but anaemia is usually diagnosed in case of coexistant haemolytic disease. While heredity in DBA is well established from studies of large families and its corresponding genedefect recently has been discovered, TEC has seldom been described in more than one member of a family. Does the occurence of TEC in siblings indicates a hereditary connection?
