Due to the fact that the vehicle suspension system is complicated, how to identify the structure-borne path of road noise efficiently and accurately is the key point of road noise diagnosis. In this research, a transfer path diagnosis approach for road noise diagnosis is proposed. In terms of methodology, the proposed method is based on the multiple coherence method, and it also needs to take into account the mechanical transfer paths of road noise. Therefore, the numerical implementation of multiple coherence method is presented first and then the classification of mechanical transfer paths of road noise. As for the practical application, first of all, the presented approach is used to investigate the transfer paths of a 79 Hz road-induced drumming problem of a vehicle. And then the mechanism for above-mentioned problem is predicted combining the modal results of relevant components. Furthermore, the predicted result is validated by adding a tuned 78 Hz damper to the lower control arm on both sides of the rear suspension. The experimental result indicates that the peak value at 79 Hz corresponding to road-induced drumming noise reduces by 10 dB(A), which proves the correctness of the inference for drumming noise and further demonstrates the validity of the proposed diagnosis approach.

Analyzing a structure early in the design cycle gives an automotive industry a huge advantage which can reduce development time and cost. Before a prototype can be built and tested, determination of the critical region of the structure should be achieved and thus the design can be improved. The method involves the study of the fatigue failure location and structural integrity of the lower control arm subjected to the load applied mimicking real condition of the lower control arm operation. The 3D geometry of finite element model is simulated in Autodesk Mechanical Simulation. The finite element analysis (FEA) results are compared to critical distance approach whereby prediction of the fatigue failure is focused on critical location of curve near bushing. Finally, it is concluded that this approach can be considered as an initial process for the design of the high life lower suspension arm.

In order to solve the problem of low production efficiency and low quality of product when machining the control arm of the free-form blank-die forging process, this paper adopts the roll forging-forging process and studies the grain size during the final forging process of the automotive control arm. Elemental software for numerical analysis, the analysis results show that the roll forging process can be processed with good mechanical properties of the control arm.

Topology and sizing optimization of low control arm (LCA) for multi-link suspension was conducted, based on kinematic envelope analysis and finite element optimization methods. Kinematic envelopes of related components were acquired to determine the original design domain, and then, topology and sizing optimization was comprehensively conducted to obtain the optimal structural scheme. Fatigue analysis and bench tests were performed for structure verification. The structural design and optimization methods proposed in this paper provided a reference for lightweight design of other automotive suspension parts.

The rubber bush of the lower control arm has an important effect on the dynamic performance and NVH performance of the vehicle. To ensure that the rubber has an enough life during the period of use, the stress value of the bush should be in the proper range and the stress distribution should be reasonable. The finite element analysis of the bush is carried out by using ABAQUS. Firstly, the stiffness of the bush simulation is evaluated by the stiffness of the bush test. Secondly, based on this, the stress situation of the bush in the common working condition is investigated. Finally, the linear approximation model is established by ISIGHT in order to optimize the angle of the bush opening. And the angle of the bush opening direction at the optimum stress condition is obtained.

A type of triaxial platform which can apply X, Y, and Z three direction load forces simultaneously to the testing specimen is introduced. It can be used for kinds of automobile parts’ testing, such as intermediate bearing of drive shaft (IBDS), engine suspension cushion, connection rod, and control arm bushing. All these parts have two connection ends, one of which can move in at least three directions relative to the other. The kinematical characteristic and kinetic performance of this platform are analyzed. An example of the triaxial platform used on IBDS is introduced.

In order to attend to the requirements of the market many efforts have been centered on technical and economical performance together with environmental evaluations of the product. Nevertheless, few attempted an approach that integrates decision making criteria with the consumer expectations. The present paper proposes the voice of the client as a fourth factor to support decision making, rendering these decision more precise and sustainable. An approach was developed for choosing between a new product and a remanufactured product. A multi-criteria decision analysis is applied to the results, together with a sensitivity analysis with the purpose of aggregating to the results limitations and opportunities for decision making, apart from, basically, having a better awareness of the problem.
