Abstract

DN is one of the most alarming complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) and a major cause of progressive renal disease (1). The clinical diagnosis has traditionally been based on persistent proteinuria. About 30 to 50% of patients with insulin dependent DM (type I) and somewhat fewer of those with non-insulin-dependent DM (type II) develop this complication.

Abstract

Because CsA is subject to extensive hepatic metabolism (1), the possibility of pharmacokinetic drug interaction can be anticipated if drugs which enhance or inhibit its metabolism are co-administered (2–4). In addition to this, there is the possibility of interaction if other drugs given with CsA are nephrotoxic, since they may enhance the toxicity of CsA (5).
