Abstract

We showed here that the scale-up of the production of the rickettsiae could benefit of the control of the migration properties of the host cells. Indeed, bead to bead transfer of endothelial cells, either normal or SV40 transformed and immortalized, was shown to be efficient in cell subculturing using Cytodex 3 microcarriers either if grown in roller-bottles or stirred tank. It should be mentioned however that a phenomenon of interference due, at least in part to in-situ interferon induction by the infection with the rickettsiae, occurs.
