The paper presents how to determine the size of the sanitary protection zones and of the hydrogeological protection perimeter related to a water catchments. The water catchment is made of two boreholes for which the lithological profiles and the optimum exploitation parameters are known respectively, the well depth, captured aquifer thickness, hydrostatic level and optimal operating flow. First borehole intercepts a pressurized aquifer and he second borehole intercepts a free level aquifer. Sizing the severe regime sanitary protection zones for borehole one was made using Trofin equation taken into account the exploited flow (Q) the rated transit time in order to protect the water quality supplied by well (t), aquifer effective porosity (ne) and captured aquifer thickness (M). For borehole 2 it was used the Hoffmann - Lillich equation. Hydrogeological protection perimeter size was calculated using the analytical method Wyssling. Follow up the calculations, the hydrogeological protection for borehole 1 will have the upstream catchment distance (DaF1) 307 m, the downstream catchment distance (DvF1) 84 m, the lateral protection distance (DlF1) 265 m. In the case of borehole 2, the upstream catchment distance (DaF2) 211 m, the downstream catchment distance (DvF2) 127 m, the lateral protection distance (DlF2) 497 m. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
