The article focuses on the problem-laden reconstruction of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Russia. The twice-delayed opening date on October 2, 2011 is reportedly in doubt, with the budget increasing to 1.5 billion U.S. dollars. It is stated that the deliberately inflated cost of the project was sixteen times the estimate and that a criminal case was opened to investigate embezzlement of funds. The naming of composer Leonid Desyatnikov as Bolshoi's new musical director is also discussed.
