A cobalt complex constructed by the ligand(L): 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde [Co(C8H7O3)2(H2O)2] has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. The cobalt(II) atom is six-coordinate in a distorted octahedral geometry, intermolecular O-H•••O hydrogen bonds lead to the formation of a two-dimensional supramolecular network along ab plane. Its thermal stability was determined by TGA/DSC. Its two-photon absorption (TPA) cross-section σ2value and second hyperpolarizability γ value were determined to be 1.59 × 10−53(m4· s/photon · molecule) and 1.06 × 10−56(C · m4/V3) by Z-scan technique with 20 picosecond (ps) pulses at wavelength 1064 nm. A new ladder structure of [(n-BuSn(O)O2CC6HF3OCH3)2-n-BuSn(O2CC6HF3OCH3)3]2 (1) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H, 13C, 119Sn NMR spectra and X-ray crystallography. All the tin atoms are six-coordinate and display distorted octahedral geometry. A series of C-H ;··· ;F and π-π stacking interactions play an important function in the supramolecular aggregation. Four triorganotin(IV) complexes constructed from tetrafluorophthalic acid (H2tfp) with a 1 : 1 : 1 molar ratio of H2tfp: Et3N: R3SnCl gave two of type {[R3Sn (tfp)].Et3NH}4 (R = Me 1, R = n-Bu 2), and two of type [R3Sn (tfp).Et3NH]n (R = PhCH2 3, Ph 4). All the complexes are characterized by elemental, IR, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR analyses. Complexes 1 and 4 were also confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Complex 1 is tetranuclear with a 28-membered C16O8Sn4 macrocyclic ring system with a cavity. The supramolecular structure of 1 has been found to consist of a three-dimensional network built up by intermolecular N-H ··· O, C-H ··· O hydrogen bonds and C-F ··· F weak interactions. Complex 4 is an infinite polymeric structure. Two metal-organic coordination polymers, [Zn(1,2,4-BTC)(bipy)]n (1) (1,2,4-BTC = 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid, bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine) and [Zn(1,3,5-BTC)(bipy)(H2O) · 3H2O]n (2) (1,3,5-BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine), have been synthesized using the principle of crystal engineering. Despite similar reactants and reaction conditions, complex 1 is an infinite 2-D square-grid network while complex 2 is a 1-D zigzag chain. 4,4'-bipyridine is a terminal monodentate ligand towards the Zn centers, which is rare in Zn polymers because 4,4'-bipyridine is a linear molecule and bridges central ions using two nitrogen atoms. The triethylammonium dicarboxylatotriorganostannates, [(C2H5)3NH][R3Sn(3,5-pdc)] · mH2O (3,5-pdc = 3,5-pyridinedicarboxylate) (m = 1, R = Me 1; m = 0, R = Ph 2, PhCH23, n-Bu 4), [(C2H5)3NH][R3Sn(5-nip)] (5-nip = 5-nitroisophthalate) (R = Me 5, Ph 6, PhCH27,n-Bu 8) have been prepared from triethylamine, 3,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid, 5-nitroisophthalic acid and triorganotin chloride. Complexes 1–8 have been characterized by elemental, IR, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR analyses. Complexes 1, 2, 5 and 6 are also determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. For 1, 2, 5 and 6, each carboxylate moiety is involved in coordination to a tin center via only one O atom showing that the Sn atoms are five-coordinate and exist in trigonal bipyramidal geometries. Moreover, for 2, 5 and 6, the nitrogen atoms of ammonium are hydrogen bonded to the pendant carboxyl oxygen. In 1, adjacent polymeric chains and triethylammonium are linked by hydrogen bonds through the co-crystallized water molecule, thus a 2D network is formed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The diorganotin(IV) complexes, [R2Sn(Rd)(μ-OH)]2 (R = Me (1), PhCH2 (2), n-Bu (3), Ph (4); HRd = rhodanine), have been synthesized and characterized by IR and multinuclear (1H, 13C, 119Sn) NMR spectroscopy. The structures of complexes 2 and 3 have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both crystal structures of 2 and 3 show the presence of asymmetrically bridging hydroxy groups leading to an Sn2O2 unit. Each atom in complex 1 is also coordinated by an N atom of ligand and two C atoms of the alkyl groups, so the Sn environment is based on a trigonal bipyramid. While in complex 2, a weak intermolecular Sn–O interaction has also been found between the two adjacent molecules, so the geometry of the Sn atom can be best described as six-coordinate octahedral. The salient feature of the supramolecular structure of complex 3 is that of a 1D polymer, in which the discrete molecules are connected through weak intermolecular Sn ··· O interactions. Eight diorganotin(IV)-oxo-carboxylates {[R2Sn(O(O)CR′)]2O}2 · Y (R′ = C4H3N2Y = H2OR = nBu 1, Y = 0 R = Me 2, Y = 0 R = C6H53, Y = 0 R = C6H5CH24; R′ = CH2SC4H3N2-2,6Y = 0 R = nBu 5, Y = CH2Cl2R = Me 6, Y = 0 R = C6H57, Y = 0 R = C6H5CH28) have been prepared in 1 : 1 molar ratios by reactions of diorganotin(IV) oxide with 2-pyrazinecarboxylic acid or (2-pyrimidylthio)acetic acid, respectively. All the complexes are characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra. Except for 2, 4 and 7, the complexes are also characterized by X-ray crystallography diffraction analyses, which reveal that the complexes adopt the familiar dicarboxylato tetraorganodistannoxane structural mode. Among them, the evident difference is that weak intramolecular interactions between Sn and N atoms are recognized in complexes 1 and 3.
