The paper aims to review the perceptions of the Southeast European countries toward the NPT and TPNW and identify the main determinants of their disarmament policies. It analyzes official statements of the Southeast European states during the NPT preparatory meetings and review conferences, and their positions in various stages of the TPNW development, to bring out a position of a certain country toward the NPT and TPNW and then dive into analysis of the determinants of the outcomes. The paper contributes to the deeper understanding of the disarmament policy choices of the Southeast European states, thus also contributing to the assessment of possible changes in their positions regarding the nuclear weapons ban. Background: The psychometric properties of evaluations at academic meetings have not been well studied.Purpose: To explore the ceiling effect in the evaluation of quality of a professional meeting and whether a change in the scale labels would decrease the ceiling effect.Methods: Cross-sectional study at two national meetings (2009-2010), attendees completed the evaluation on paper forms or online (5-point Likert scale).Results: Of 1,064 evaluations, the mean session ratings was higher among respondents to the paper version in 2009 (4.2; 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.1 to 4.3) as compared to online responders in 2009 (3.0; 95% CI, 2.9 to 3.1) or online responders in 2010 (3.0; 95% CI, 2.9 to 3.1)(p < 0.001).Conclusion: A ceiling effect was present in the evaluation of an academic meeting. A change in the evaluation scale labels decreased the ceiling effect and increased evaluation variability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper describes the political context of the 2004 World Social Forum (WSF) held in Mumbai, India from January 16-21, 2004. Using a concept of 'place' borrowed from Doreen Massey, it argues that most academic reviews of the WSF employ an abstract notion of globalization that is detached from the everyday struggles of the majority of WSF participants. These reviews then argue that the WSF should advance a unified 'alternative globalization' platform. With close attention to the range of struggles represented at the WSF, this paper warns against the call for a unified vision and method of change and shows how these struggles defy generalized definitions of change. The extant research relates to what the Millennial generation prefers in their meetings and events. The focus of this paper is to compare the wants and needs of Millennials from five different continents to ascertain similarities and differences. This is the largest study ever done of Millennials with regard to meetings and events. While some differences were uncovered, it was found that Millennials are a very homogeneous group. Thus, event professionals can use similar strategies when targeting this group. However, it was also found that there were some differences in specific areas and event professionals would do well to ascertain their mix of attendees by national origin and then apply the most significant findings of the research at hand. A large painting entitled The Country Meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of England at Bristol 1842 is displayed in the council chamber of the Royal Agricultural Society of England at Stoneleigh Park. Among the over 130 people in the painting, we can recognise the figure of Justus Liebig. Liebig, whose famous book Organic Chemistry in its Application to Agriculture and Physiology had been published in English in 1840, and had come to be seen as an international symbol of scientific agriculture by 1842. The presence of Liebig would certainly have endorsed the reputation of the Society. However, documentary research shows that Liebig did not actually attend the annual meeting of the Society in Bristol. By whom, and with what intention, was he placed in the painting? The UK meetings industry has grown dramatically over the last ten years. Interest in the industry and competition is increasing and the move towards using venues other than hotels for meetings is growing. The pattern of growth experienced by the industry brings with it the question whether the quality of provision is becoming increasingly important to customers when differentiating between venues. The research forms part of a larger study, which proposes to establish whether gaps exist between conference organizers' and conference delegates' needs when selecting and assessing the quality of a conference venue. This paper presents the findings of a quantitative study of 547 conference delegates. Conference delegates' perceptions of service quality attributes were compared and contrasted by importance of attributes and attribute subsets. Convention centers have emerged as a focal point in an intense competition among cities for a share of the economically important meetings and exhibition market. In this paper, we present abundant evidence to show that cities can substantially benefit by capturing a share of this market. However, the cost and size of the meetings facilities that are appropriate for particular cities will vary with local circumstances. We argue that such local considerations are ignored because of the political influence that the meetings industry now exerts when cities make decisions about building or expanding convention centers. ABSTRACT The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) meeting in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 illustrated the enormous rift that has appeared between North and South. Not only is the agenda of the North different from that of the South, but the language, the discourse, is different. The paper, which was conceived as a contribution to the new discourse surrounding development and the environment explores the divergence between North and South in terms of the limited Northern perspective represented by 'environmental managerialism'. The failure to grasp the global nature of environmental issues lies at the heart of the problem for radical scholarship.
