Poverty alleviation has been positioned high on the international development agenda following the adoption of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2000. African countries initiated various missions to establish sustained economic growth by increasing productivity with an ultimate goal of poverty reduction. The significance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in poverty reduction and employment generation is widely acknowledged. Despite the high failure rate amongst SMEs, particularly in the African context, some are striving with excellent results and are demonstrating signs of growth, innovation and sustainability. This paper explores the development of SMEs as a strategic measure for job creation in sub-Saharan Africa. It examines the role of SMEs in achieving sustainable employment in Africa. This study will benefit governments in Africa, getting them to focus on the development of the SMEs, and guiding them on how best to integrate SME development to achieve poverty alleviation. The recommendations proposed in this study may be helpful in policy formulation, business operation and regulatory practice for sustainable growth and development in the sub-Saharan African context. Despite the increase in tourism, the contribution of tourism to poverty reduction is questionable. Using secondary data with poverty index as a dependent variable, the effects of tourism value, total trade value, foreign direct investment, gross domestic product, and exchange rates were tested using econometric time series analysis for Tanzania from 1987 to 2020. The results for the long-run effects indicate all five variables significantly influence on human development as a proxy for poverty. Foreign direct investment has a negative effect, unlike the other variables. These results offer support to the Tourism Led Growth Hypothesis for a developing country like Tanzania in sub-Saharan Africa. Thus it is logical to continue promoting tourism in conjunction with the facilitation of export trade as a means of poverty reduction. Attracting foreign direct investments should continue but put into consideration policies, regulations, and the business environment that facilitate local business linkages with tourism which will reduce profit leakages. The primary purpose of this study is to establish the moderating role of generational differences in the relationship between mobile money adoption and use and financial inclusion in developing countries. Three key findings emerged: first, there is a moderating role of generational differences on mobile money adoption and use; second, both mobile money adoption and use and generational differences have significant and positive effects on financial inclusion; third, the inclusion of generational differences, as a moderator, results in 6.7 per cent increase in financial inclusion in developing countries. The developing country entrepreneur is championed as a driver of economic growth, poverty alleviation, and social development. Yet little is known about what drives entrepreneurial ambitions in developing countries. This study uses qualitative data from focus group discussions with university-educated Sierra Leonean youths to explore these issues. Findings show that very few have entrepreneurial ambitions ex ante, though a large share resort to entrepreneurship as a survival mechanism. Limited entrepreneurial ambitions can be explained by macro-level factors such as access to credit, but are largely driven by individual-level factors such as conceptions of success and cultural perceptions about entrepreneurship.
