In this study mice were fed a high-fat diet for 12 weeks to establish diet-induced obesity and syringic acid (SA) was assessed for anti-obese, neuroprotective, and neurogenesis. Animals were given HFD for 12 weeks to measure metabolic characteristics and then put through the Barns-maze and T-maze tests to measure memory. Additionally, the physiology of the blood–brain barrier, oxidative stress parameters, the expression of inflammatory genes, neurogenesis, and histopathology was evaluated in the brain. DIO raised body weight, BMI, and other metabolic parameters after 12 weeks of overfeeding. A reduced spontaneous alternation in behavior (working memory, reference memory, and total time to complete a task), decreased enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, oxidative biomarkers, increased neurogenesis, and impaired blood–brain barrier were all seen in DIO mice. SA (50 mg/kg) treatment of DIO mice (4 weeks after 8 weeks of HFD feeding) reduced diet-induced changes in lipid parameters associated with obesity, hepatological parameters, memory, blood–brain barrier, oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and neurogenesis. SA also reduced the impact of malondialdehyde and enhanced the effects of antioxidants such as glutathione, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and total thiol (MDA). Syringic acid improved neurogenesis, cognition, and the blood–brain barrier while reducing neurodegeneration in the hippocampal area. According to the results of the study, syringic acid therapy prevented neurodegeneration, oxidative stress, DIO, and memory loss. Syringic acid administration may be a useful treatment for obesity, memory loss, and neurogenesis, but more research and clinical testing is needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to investigate the effect of Ruesi Dadton (RD) group exercise on oxidative stress (OS) levels and health conditions in healthy elderly individuals. This quasi-experimental study evaluated 23 healthy elderly participants, with evaluations at baseline, and 4 and 12 weeks after RD program initiation. RD consisted of 15 postures performed three times a week. OS was measured through levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), and activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and catalase (CAT). Blood pressure (BP) and balance were also observed. The results revealed that RD yielded significantly improved balance and CAT activity and decreased MDA level at 4 weeks. At 12 weeks, significant improvements in BP, balance, and SOD, CAT, and GPx activities and decreases in MDA and 8-OHdG levels were observed. These results suggest that RD can improve BP and balance by decreasing OS and increasing antioxidant levels in healthy elderly individuals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Evaluation of the modulatory effect of ethanolic extract of Alocasia indica tuber (EEAIT) against γ-irradiation induced ovarian and uterine toxicity. Extract preparation was done by 80% hydro-ethanol using Soxhlet apparatus. EEAIT was administered to female Swiss albino mice (n = 5) daily (200 and 400 mg/kg body weight/d) for 7 days before γ-irradiation exposure (2.9 Gy). FSH, LH, estrogen, progesterone, cytokine levels, and oxidative stress parameters were measured after 24 hours of γ-irradiation. Histology, folliculogenesis, viability of granulosa cells, ROS measurement by flow cytometry, western blot of P450scc, P45017A1, 3β HSD and SF 1 were also performed. In addition, fertility status was assessed by fecundability and fecundity. The results showed that EEAIT exhibit a strong radioprotective activity by reducing the oxidative stress and thereby restored the ovarian and uterine alterations. EEAIT also improved the abnormality in follicle development, restored altered gonadal hormones and cytokines levels, increase the fertility status, reducing ROS level of granulosa cells with increasing granulosa cells viability and steroidogenic enzyme activity as compared to control. So EEAIT showed a radioprotective effect on γ-irradiation induced ovarian and uterine damage. Two water-soluble zinc(II) complexes of b-cyclodextrin-based Schiff bases, viz., mono-6-deoxy-6-(4-(5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)-3,4-diaminotolune)-β-cyclodextrin (4a) and mono-6-deoxy-6-(4-(5-nitro-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)-3,4-diaminotolune)-β-cyclodextrin (4b) have been synthesized and characterized by different analytical and spectroscopic techniques. These Zn(II) complexes were analyzed for their possible activity against oxidative stress through various biochemical methods. A detailed antioxidant profile directly associated with inflammation related carcinogenesis and several oxidative stress related disorders have been prepared with a motive to evaluate the free radical scavenging activities of the synthesized complexes. The immune cell cytotoxic properties (through MTT assay) and in vitro assay for the evaluation of their antioxidant activities against hydroxyl radical, nitric oxide, singlet oxygen, peroxynitrate and hydrogen peroxide, etc. were investigated. Obtained results clearly demonstrated the role of reactive oxygen species in various phases of oxidative stress related diseases; thus, the antioxidant and free radical scavenging capacities of the two synthesized Zn(II) complexes seem to stand in support of their beneficial effects and novelty for the immune system.
