Two new coordination polymers, [Pb(bpdc)] n (1) and [Co(bpdc)(phen)] n (2) [H2bpdc = benzophenone-2,4′-dicarboxylic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline], have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Hydrogen bonding and π ··· π stacking extend 1 and 2 into 3-D supramolecular architectures, where 1 exhibits a 3-D framework with 1-D hairpin-like helicates based on Pb–O covalent bonds and 2 displays a 3-D network with 1-D zipper-like chains based on Co–O and Co–N covalent bonds. A new coordination polymer, {[Ag(H3bptc)(bpe)] · 2H2O} n (1) (H4bptc = 3,3′,4,4′-benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid, bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene), has been synthesized through a hydrothermal technique and structurally characterized. The crystal structure of 1 exhibits a 2-D hydrogen-bonding sheet between H3bptc− and two free water molecules. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of castration and slaughter age on amino acid and fatty acid compositions in Longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle of pigs, as well as growth rates and meat quality. The total amino acid, essential amino acid and nonessential amino acid contents of barrows were significantly higher (P<0.01, < 0.001, < 0.001, respectively) than the ones of boars. Additionally, the content of several saturated fatty acids and total mono-unsaturated fatty acids was significantly higher (P<0.001), and total polyunsaturated fatty acids was significantly lower (P<0.001) in the LD muscle of barrows than in boars. Compared with boars, barrows had lower (P<0.05) growth rates after 147 days, higher (P<0.05) intramuscular fat content at 147 days, and higher (P<0.01) average back fat thicknesses at 147 and 210 days. These results suggest that the amino acid and fatty acid compositions of LD muscle from male pigs, as well as growth rates and meat quality, were influenced by castration, and, to a lesser degree, by slaughter age. A ligand 1,3-bis(1-benzylbenzimidazol-2-yl)-2-oxopropane (Bobb) and the zinc(II) complex, [Zn(Bobb)2](picrate)2 · 2DMF, were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, electrical conductivities, IR, and UV. The crystal structures of the ligand and the zinc complex have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The ligand displays a V-shaped configuration and the Zn(II) cation is six-coordinate by four nitrogens and two oxygens from Bobb. The N4O2 donor set is a distorted octahedron. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A porous coordination polymer based on nickel(II) and rigid multitopic ligands, {[Ni(dpdapt)(BDC)(H2O)] · 3.5H2O}n (1) (dpdapt = N, N'-di(2-pyridyl)-2,4-diamino-6-phenyl-1,3,5-triazine), has been synthesized and characterized. Compound 1 crystallizes in the space group C2/m and possesses a 3-D open framework with 1-D rhombic hydrophilic channels, in which hetero-chiral helical water chains are located. Two 1-D water chains are further stabilized by hydrogen-bonding interactions with the host, inducing a 10-oxygen ring propagated along the channel. The ligand N-(2-propionic acid)-salicyloyl hydrazone(H3L, 1) and its new transition metal(II) complexes [NiHL(bipy)H2O] (2), [CdHL(bipy)(H2O)2]2·2H2O (3) and [NiHL(phen)H2O]·H2O (4) (HL is a dianion, bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) were synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, molar conductivity and thermal analysis. Single crystal X-ray diffraction showed that 1 is in keto form and connected by hydrogen bonds to form a two-dimensional supermolecular compound. Complexes 2 and 4 have the same structure with distorted meridional octahedral geometry with 1 as a tridentate ligand with keto-form coordination by azomethine, carboxyl O and acyl O. In 3, ligand 1 bridges two Cd(II) atoms by μ2-O of carboxyl. H-bonding is an important weak interaction for constructing supermolecular frameworks. A novel dysprosium(III) complex of N-(2-propionic acid)salicyloylhydrazone (H3L) and 2,2-dipyridyl (dipy) was prepared and characterized. The crystal structure of [Dy(H2L)(HL)(H2O)3] · 0.5dipy · 2H2O was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. In the structure, Dy(III) is 9-coordinated by carboxyl O, acyl O atoms and azomethine N atoms of two ligands (H2L and HL forms) and O atoms from three water molecules. H2L and HL act as tridentate ligands, which form two stable five-numbered rings in the keto form, as indicated by the crystal structure and IR data. The coordination polyhedron around Dy(III) can be described as a monocapped square antiprism. A free 2,2-dipyridyl molecule and two water molecules are connected to coordinated water and ligands by hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional structural motif. The complex is highly fluorescent. One free 2,2-dipyridyl and two lattice waters connecting with coordinated water and ligands by hydrogen bonds lie in the crystal cell.
