In analytical chemistry, the synergy between innovative sample preparation techniques and advanced chromatographic methods has paved the way for unprecedented advancements in the analysis of complex samples. Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) stands out as a powerful tool for extraction, and preconcentration. When coupled with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) equipped with a Diode Array Detector (DAD), the integrated SPME-HPLC-DAD system emerges as a sophisticated analytical platform, offering enhanced sensitivity, selectivity, and versatility for various applications. Desorption is accomplished by either depositing organic solvent in the desorption chamber or else by flowing the mobile phase through the desorption chamber specificity. The effectiveness of carbon price in emissions trading schemes (ETS) is an important issue in China in the context of its ambitious climate change goals. This paper adopts a staggered difference-in-differences model to estimate whether China's ETS reduced CO2 emissions while maintaining economic growth even under low carbon prices. The results indicate that despite the low carbon prices, the ETS effectively reduced CO2 emissions without undermining the economy. Specifically, an increase of $1 in the carbon price reduced CO2 emissions by 1.69% and increased the per capita GDP by $286. The carbon price primarily achieved emission reduction and promoted economic development through channels, such as technological innovation, foreign direct investment, energy mix, and industrial structure. Carbon leakage to neighboring regions was not evident. Heterogeneity analysis showed that the environmental effects of the carbon price were more pronounced in regions with higher levels of economic development and CO2 emissions. Conversely, the economic effects of the carbon price were more pronounced in regions with lower levels of economic development and CO2 emissions. The carbon price achieved significant economic effects in regions that solely adopted the free allocation mode of emission allowances, while regions that used a combination of free allocation and auctioning experienced substantial emission reduction effects. Despite low carbon prices, China's ETS effectively reduced CO2 emissions without compromising economic growth. This finding provides new empirical evidence for the effectiveness of carbon price as well as decision support for the future promotion of ETS. Technological innovation, FDI, energy mix, and industrial structure are crucial channels through which the carbon price achieves emission reduction and promotes economic development. The absence of carbon leakage to neighboring regions suggests that ETS is an internally effective mechanism for emission control. Heterogeneity analysis showed that regional characteristics and allowance allocation modes can influence the effectiveness of carbon price, thus emphasizing the importance of targeted policy design and appropriate allocation methods. According to most climate mitigation scenario assessments, limiting global warming to 1.5–2°C in the long run will not be possible without the extensive deployment of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) from the atmosphere. CDR is required for drawing down and achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by mid-century. Thereafter, CO2 removals will likely need to exceed residual CO2 emissions, resulting in net negative emissions. A policy framework based on 'carbon removal obligations' (CROs) has been proposed to respond to concerns about the financial and fiscal viability, the lack of incentives for CDR uptake, as well as the physical and technological risks associated with any climate mitigation scenario that relies on large scale CDR. Here we propose an updated and improved CRO policy framework, consisting of two core elements: the 'principal CRO mechanism' obliges emitters of a tonne of CO2 to remove a tonne of CO2 at the time of maturity of the CRO. On top of this obligation, CRO holders need to pay a fee for the temporary storage of CO2 in the atmosphere. This 'CRO pricing instrument' is used by regulators to steer the carbon emissions and removals pathways independently. Our update suggests that markets for CDR under the CRO framework should operate independently from markets for emission reductions. We propose a blueprint for legal implementation where CROs are integrated akin to private financial borrowing and debt mechanisms. By aligning CROs with established financial systems, we leverage familiar institutional roles, seamlessly integrating climate mitigation into the core economy. The proposal applies the polluter pays principle to the costs of carbon removal from the atmosphere, whilst providing legal guarantees that the removals will materialize. By placing climate change mitigation pricing levers in the hands of the traditional managers of financial stability, that is, central banks, better account is taken of the externality of carbon emissions as part of core economic and financial management, with the corollary that climate change mitigation response management is better integrated into the economic mainstream. Establishing a standard for the creation of removal units by CDR projects facilitates a more efficient market by reducing transaction costs and enhancing price discovery. Early action by government to put in place legislative measures indicating the direction of policy, and a timetable for introducing CROs, would enhance private sector confidence and engagement in the CDR project sector. Whether the carbon market can promote green technology innovation is a controversial topic because of an incomplete understanding of the mechanism and inconsistent datasets. This study first comprehensively explores the theoretical mechanism of the carbon market on green technology innovation from four aspects: the compensation effect, cost control motivation, crowding-out effect, and spillover effect. A sample of 209 cities in China is employed to empirically test the impact of China's pilot carbon market on green technology innovation and its regional and industry heterogeneity using quasi-natural experiments. We found that China's pilot carbon market has significantly promoted green technology innovation at the city level, especially in provincial capital cities, achieving a maximum effect two years after the shock. However, there is no significant spillover effect on the surrounding non-pilot cities, and Chongqing has realized the suppression of green technology innovation under the domination of the crowding-out effect. At the industry level, the pilot carbon market significantly promotes green technology innovation in the transportation, construction, chemical, and power industries but exhibits crowding-out effects in the steel industry. Finally, we propose policy implications for maintaining reasonable and stable carbon prices to stimulate compensation effects, scientifically determining the order of industry inclusion to avoid crowding-out effects, and accelerating inter-regional supply chains and technological cooperation to release spillover effects. It is recommended to scientifically determine a reasonable carbon price range and introduce institutions, individuals, and other trading entities to improve the liquidity of the carbon market and the effectiveness of carbon prices. Considering the high cost triggered by the complex processes of the steel industry in developing countries, its inclusion may inhibit green technology innovation; thus, it is necessary to be cautious about including the steel industry in the carbon market. To build a carbon market in developing countries, the order of industry inclusion must be determined based on scientific calculations of the costs of green technology innovation in the industry. This study investigates the causal relationship between technology innovation and carbon emissions based on data from firms participating in the Korean Emission Trading Scheme (KETS). It is considered that the dynamics of firm innovation and environmental performance vary by industry group because each industry utilizes a different production process and carbon reduction ability. Therefore, in this study, the causal relationships between innovation and emissions are analyzed and compared by industry based on the panel vector error correction model (VECM) and the fully modified OLS procedures (FMOLS). The results show that innovation activities play an important role in promoting the environmental performance of firms at the 5% significance level in the long -run. On the other hand, a firm's sales that represent production activities increase carbon emissions both in the long and short-run. Comparative analysis between industries confirms that the dynamics vary by industry. R&D investments have a significant effect on carbon emissions reduction in the energy industry in the short run, but in the high technology industries such as semiconductors and electronics, environmental regulation plays an important role in inducing technological progress in the short run. Prior to COVID, the global aviation industry was growing rapidly. Growth has now resumed and is predicted to continue for at least the next three decades. Aotearoa New Zealand has particularly high aviation emissions and has been on a very rapid growth path that is incompatible with the Paris Agreement on climate change. Government, intergovernmental, nongovernmental, academic and industry sources have proposed technological innovations to address aviation emissions. These include sustainable aviation fuels, electric and hydrogen powered aircraft, and increases in efficiency. We review these and assess that none of them will lead to a significant reduction in emissions in the short to medium term. In addition, we demonstrate that even very aggressive uptake of new technology results in the New Zealand aviation sector exceeding its share of the carbon budget as determined by the Paris Agreement. Therefore, we examine the fundamental drivers of growth in aviation: the tourism and airport industries, emissions pricing and substitutes, and the distribution of air travel. Governance of this sector is challenging, but it is changing rapidly. We conclude that a national aviation action plan needs to be developed and implemented based on the 'Avoid/Shift/Improve' framework in use in other areas of transportation planning. This paper will explore the dichotomy of direction and stimulus through a reflection on arts-based methods used in a research study into post-industrial communities in South Wales and consider whether in participatory processes, a catalyst for artistic creativity could become construed as researcher-led control over the activities. Through an examination of the methods and outcomes of the project, which employed a range of qualitative methods with an artistic and creative basis, I reflect on the positives and negatives of such an approach and also consider how my positionality affected my epistemological stance. Ultimately, I conclude that the complex storying of participatory activities and the issues of power and identity involving both researcher and participants inevitably means that the research 'dance' blurs the distinction between participation and direction. Thermal analysis of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers is commonly employed to assess the chemical and physical changes occurring during the pre-oxidation stage. However, in actual pre-oxidation processes, PAN fibers are stretched to a certain extent (approximately 5%) to prevent fiber shrinkage. Consequently, the pre-oxidation process of PAN fiber is influenced not only by temperature and atmosphere but also by the stretching tension. In this study, two types of PAN fiber samples with different crystal structures were utilized alongside four different processing methods (PAN powder, unfixation, physical fixation, and chemical fixation) to generate three degrees of fixed stretching. These included PAN powder and unfixed PAN fiber samples (without fixation tension), physically fixed PAN fiber with relatively weak fixation tension, and chemically fixed PAN fiber with strong fixation. Through a comparison of these samples, it was observed that the fixation tension aided in preserving the crystal structure during the heating process, significantly reducing the cyclization rate of the PAN fibers. The cyclization reaction rate of PAN fiber A, initially at 85% without any fixation, decreased to 66% after physical fixation and dropped to 56% after chemical fixation. For PAN fibers with distinct crystal morphologies, the impact of the fixation tension was more prominent for PAN fibers with larger crystal sizes and lower orientation. Additionally, we demonstrate trends in research in the field of carbon nanomaterials with a view to elaborating targeted drug delivery systems. We also show the creation of nanosized medicinal substances and diagnostic systems, and the production of new biomaterials. In this study, the efficiency of the synthesised Ag/TiO2/Fe3O4 catalyst in the removal of endosulfan and metabolite formation by the photocatalysis process, the effect, and optimisation of the ambient conditions were investigated under UV–C light source. Photocatalysis process for endosulfan removal and degradation to metabolites was optimised with Taguchi experimental design method and the results were evaluated statistically by analysis of variance. Light intensity, amount of catalyst, initial endosulfan concentration, pH, and time were chosen as controllable parameters. The highest S/N ratios on the based on parameters were obtained at 27 W light power, pH 4, 0.5 g/L catalyst amount, 60 min reaction time and 4 mg/L initial endosulfan concentration. Since these values, at which the highest removal rate will be achieved, were not found in the experimental design, a confirmation experiment was performed and the removal was obtained as 93.2%. It was found that the most effective parameters on the removal efficiency were the initial endosulfan concentration and pH, respectively. As a result of analysis of variance, Fcritical values showed that the effects of light power, catalyst amount and reaction time on endosulfan removal were not statistically significant. When the P values are examined, it is seen that there is a significant difference between the initial endosulfan concentration and the levels of the pH factor for endosulfan removal. No formations of endosulfan sulphate, endosulfan ether, and endosulfan lactone were observed at high concentrations while endosulfan was removed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Several graph features have been used to distinguish the construction of entropy-based measurements from the structure of chemical graphs and complicated networks. The graph entropy metric has piqued the interest of scientists due to its possible applicability in a variety of domains. In this paper, we look at the chemical graph of silicon–carbon SiC3-I and the crystallographic structure of silicon–carbon SiC3-II. This two-dimensional structure has the potential to revolutionize optoelectronic and electrical technologies as a direct wide band gap semiconducting material. More intriguingly, the semiconducting SiC3 sheet has a significant visible-light adsorption ability. SiC3 nanosheets have a wide range of electrical characteristics, making them ideal for nano-electronics and photo-voltaic. This advantageous molecular structure, silicon carbon, is examined. More preciously in this paper, we have computed the entropy measures for SiC3-I and SiC3-II based on the topologies indices. Some comparison work is offered in addition to the analytical analysis of the entropy measure of silicon–carbon. Bases on these numerical tables and corresponding graphs we conclude that as entropy measures are the better predicator than the topological indices of physio-chemical properties. Delamination is an interlaminar damage which may be pre-existing in multilayered fibre reinforced polymer composite parts due to manufacturing imperfections or generated by out of plane loading during service life. Its existence leads to significant reduction of structural integrity, strength and stiffness of the material. Hence, to study the effect of induced delamination on the performance of a composite under pure bending, a circular polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film was introduced between the second and third plies of a sixteen layered carbon/epoxy laminate during fabrication. The bending tests were conducted in displacement control mode. The displacements and strains were measured through the thickness of the composite using two-dimensional digital image correlation. The damage modes were captured using CCD camera and the causes were explained. The flexural strength and modulus of composite were 329.74 MPa and 104.58 GPa respectively. The delaminated composite behaved as a single member without any crack within the elastic range. The existence of PTFE drastically reduced flexural stiffness of composite beyond the stress at 75.81% of its ultimate strength. The ± 45º plies offered low mechanical performance against the induced off axis loading. Hence, in these plies fibre breakage was higher. Hexavalent chromium (VI) is a toxic form of chromium metal generally used in many industrial applications for its anticorrosive properties. Cr (VI) has been deemed to be a class-A human carcinogen. Among all the techniques available, adsorption is one of the most suitable techniques. The efficiency of the process depends on the adsorption medium. Although there are several adsorbents available, there is still huge scope to develop a number of adsorption media for the benefit of the common people. In this study, nanomaterial synthesised from Jawar stem (Agro-Waste) has been used as an adsorbent for removal of Cr (VI) from aqueous solution. The Jawar stem nanofibers have been synthesised using chemical vapour deposition technique (CVD). The characterisation of adsorbent was carried out using various analytical techniques like XRD, BET, SEM, TGA and FTIR. The adsorption capacity of Jawar stem nanofibers was found to be 76.10 m2 gm−1. The removal of hexavalent chromium was studied as a function of contact time, dosage of adsorbent and initial concentration of Chromium (VI). The examined work elucidates a novel concept on Gate All Around (GAA) hetero dielectric gate-cylindrical tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) to reduce SCEs. In this paper, a hetero dielectric gate (HeG) integrated with Silicon-Germanium (Si-Ge) substrate material is proposed along with a novel placement of a high-density delta (HDD) layer across the source–channel junction to achieve high ION of 1.12 × 10−4 A/µm and robust IOFF of 9.7 × 10−17 A/µm at Vgs = 1.2 V with steepest subthreshold swing (SS) of 55 mV/decade. Designing and computation of the proffered structure have been done with the computer-aided design (TCAD) 3D device computation software. The systematic investigation in terms of AC and DC parameters, such as ON-current, OFF-current, Miller Capacitances (Gate-Drain Capacitance (Cgd)) and Gate-Source Capacitance (Cgs), are examined. Hetero-gate dielectric Cyl-TFET with high-density delta (HDD) is superior to other conventional structures. The result outcomes included a trap analysis while incorporating the hot charge carriers inside the oxide for improved device reliability. Carbon farming presents an opportunity for the land sector to generate income and transition to more sustainable land management practices. In Australia, establishing a carbon project and earning carbon credits is complex, with project proponents needing to satisfy eligibility requirements and adhere to rigorous measurement, verification, and reporting protocols of approved methods. To address these challenges, a human centered design (HCD) approach was used to deliver a digital solution, serving landowners' needs related to method discovery and reconfiguring how the methodological and scientific complexity of abatement potentials was delivered. The solution, called LOOC-C (pronounced "Look-see"), supports the discovery of abatement methods that are available for a given land area and provides an initial estimate of the potential quantum of carbon sequestered/emitted and the nature of co-benefits associated with each eligible method. Reporting on LOOC-C development and its observed impact demonstrates the role that human centered digital tools have in promoting land management actions that are both sustainable and reasonable to undertake. It equally demonstrates the power of integrating environmental market and user requirements with a robust design methodology. With similar opportunities in environmental markets globally, additional applications of an HCD approach are proposed. In 2012, the Australian government established the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) to reward landowners (via awarding Australian Carbon Credit Units, or ACCUs) for the implementation of management practices that either sequester carbon and/or reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Rigorous eligibility and method requirements are intended to provide confidence in abatement outcomes, but they introduce significant complexity that participants must overcome. 11 years later, uncertainties in the implementation and ACCU generation potential of ERF projects and implications on productivity/co-benefits have limited uptake and the quantum of ACCU generation of land sector enterprises. Digital tools that support the discovery of options and provide estimated potential outcomes, such as the LOOC-C tool described in this paper (), can generate interest and empowerment, helping to initiate decisions toward market participation. Several nations across the world place a high focus on achieving carbon reduction objectives. Climate change is the most catastrophic result of human activity. Eco-innovation, export diversification, and fiscal decentralization are all viable approaches for resolving environmental concerns and achieving environmental sustainability goals. These tactics could help countries and levels of government pursue what they consider to be sustainable development. This research assesses the combined impact of export diversification, green technical innovation, and fiscal decentralization in order to accomplish the environmental sustainability goals of the BRICS countries from 1970 to 2020. The long-run dynamic equilibrium between the chosen variables is explored using the augmented mean group (AMG) approach. The results show that while the use of green technology and renewable energy improves the environment, ecological harm is aggravated by export diversification, fiscal decentralization, and economic growth. In the past few decades, the tourism and hospitality sector has not only witnessed significant growth but also contributed tremendously to economic progress with lease inputs. This fastest-growing sector creates a number of environmental challenges, especially in emerging markets where the carbon footprint of tourism constitutes a large share of CO2 emissions. This study explores the effect of international tourism, renewable energy consumption (REN), and eco-friendly technology on CO2 emissions in emerging markets. The AMG, Driscoll-Kraay and Prais-Winsten regression confirm the adverse effects of international tourism on the environment, whereas technological innovation and REN mitigate CO2 emissions. Furthermore, economic growth and population increase CO2 emissions, while foreign direct investment (FDI) reduces CO2 emissions. Although the direct effect of technological innovation is insignificant, the indirect impact is negative and statistically significant; confirming the moderating effect of eco-friendly technology on the relationship between international tourism and CO2 emissions. The MMQR results suggest that REN reduces CO2 emissions across all quantiles. On the other hand, technological innovation significantly reduces CO2 emissions in lower and median quantiles, whereas international tourism and economic growth reduce CO2 emissions across all quantiles. Carbon nanofibers, recently recognized pollutants, have been heavily used among the nanomaterials in many industries. Due to the poor suspension-stability, carbon nanofibers tend to sediment at the bottom of waterbodies and hence can be consumed by the bottom-dwellers. The current investigation evaluates the impact of carbon nanofibers at concentrations between 0.1 and 10 mg L−1 on the common bottom dweller spiny loach Lepidocephalichthys thermalis inhabiting Indian rivers. Carbon nanofiber exposure elevated the activities of the hepatic antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase, catalase, peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase, as oxidative stress markers. The fish behaviour patterns were examined by testing the effect of carbon nanofibers on predator recognition ability using kairomones, conspecific alarm cues, and dietary cues. The carbon nanofiber-exposed fish showed a loss of predator-recognition abilities. The results collectively demonstrated the carbon nanofiber driven hepatic oxidative damage and impaired predator-recognition ability in L. thermalis. This phenomenon has resulted in the emergence of shape-memory polymeric nanoarchitectures (SMPNs) possessing enhanced and outstanding properties, when compared with the pristine SMP, and this has subsequently enlarged their scope of applications (civil engineering, biomedical gadgets, aerospace, bionics engineering, energy, electronic engineering, household products, and textile engineering). Furthermore, SMPNs enhances athermal stimuli-activities including electroactivity, magneto-activity, water-activity, and photo-activity, as well as shape memory effect (SME) including multiple-shape memory effect (MSME), spatial shape memory effect (SSME), as well as dual-route shape memory effect (DRSME). This elucidation is essential and imperative at this time to enlighten the polymeric universe on new advancements in fabrication, features and applications of stimuli responsive SMPNs. As essential neurological chemical messengers, neurotransmitters play an integral role in the maintenance of normal mammalian physiology. Aberrant neurotransmitter activity is associated with a range of neurological conditions including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and Huntington's disease. Many studies to date have tested different approaches to detecting neurotransmitters, yet the detection of these materials within the brain, due to the complex environment of the brain and the rapid metabolism of neurotransmitters, remains challenging and an area of active research. There is a clear need for the development of novel neurotransmitter sensing technologies capable of rapidly and sensitively monitoring specific analytes within the brain without adversely impacting the local microenvironment in which they are implanted. Owing to their excellent sensitivity, portability, ease-of-use, amenability to microprocessing, and low cost, electrochemical sensors methods have been widely studied in the context of neurotransmitter monitoring. The present review, thus, surveys current progress in this research field, discussing developed electrochemical neurotransmitter sensors capable of detecting dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-HT), acetylcholine (Ach), glutamate (Glu), nitric oxide (NO), adenosine (ADO), and so on. Of these technologies, those based on carbon nanostructures-modified electrodes including carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene (GR), gaphdiyne (GDY), carbon nanofibers (CNFs), and derivatives thereof hold particular promise owing to their excellent biocompatibility and electrocatalytic performance. The continued development of these and related technologies is, thus, likely to lead to major advances in the clinical diagnosis of neurological diseases and the detection of novel biomarkers thereof. Demand responsive transit (DRT) echoes the new requirements of modern travel on flexibility and carbon reduction, as well as achieving a better match between demand and supply. However, many DRTs still failed. An important step named adaptability analysis helps to understand the context, desirability, and feasibility of introducing DRT. An adaptability analysis includes three sub-questions. Question 1 focuses on policy, regulation, funding, and technologies. Question 2 looks at the interactions of travel demand with operation parameters such as fare and fleet size. Question 3 tries to figure out the impacts of DRT on mobility, society, and the environment. To answer Question 1, macro-level methods collect information and generalise from empirical knowledge, including experience and barriers from real-world operation cases. To answer Question 2, meso-level methods determine the operation mode of DRT by quantifying related factors and establishing evaluation models or boundary condition decision models. To answer Question 3, micro-level methods use microscopic models for simulating the interaction between passengers and vehicles under different scenarios. This paper further discusses the advantages, disadvantages, and future directions of adaptability analysis methods of DRT. Artificial muscle fibers driven electrothermally with excellent properties of response, stroke, and work capacity are expected to serve in some intelligent structures and systems. However, muscle fibers that operate in subzero environments are highly needed in industrial production and aerospace applications but remain challenging. Herein, we reported a coaxial artificial muscle fiber by electrospinning a sheath of polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers on the surface of a carbon nanotube (CNT) fiber core, achieving the actuation in response to thermal at subzero temperatures. The CNT@PCL coaxial muscle fiber under 0.3 MPa achieved a maximum contractile stroke of ~18% as the temperature changed from −130°C to 45°C. The actuation mechanism at subzero temperatures of this muscle fiber was analyzed in combination with the temperature-deformation schematic curve of different polymers. Furthermore, a temperature sensor based on this muscle fiber was developed, due to the excellent linear relationship between the contraction and temperature. A 3D-printed prosthetic arm was designed to further exhibit the application demonstrations of this muscle fiber in subzero environments. Emissions trading schemes (ETS) area is a leading climate policy instrument worldwide and have been widely discussed and researched. However, few studies to date focus on the nexus of ETS and income inequality, an important socioeconomic phenomenon. To fill this gap, taking China as an example, this paper discusses the influence of ETS on income inequality and its dynamic changes using a time-varying differences-in-difference model combined with a propensity score matching approach. The results demonstrate that China's pilot ETS has contributed to reducing income inequality. Various robustness tests support this conclusion. Moreover, the strength of ETS's contribution to reduction in income inequality gradually increases over time. We further analyze the mediating effects of carbon intensity, energy consumption, industrial structure, and technological innovation. ETS reduces income inequality by reducing coal consumption. The regional heterogeneity analysis shows that, unlike in other regions, ETS has a positive impact on income inequality (i.e. it increases it) in the eastern region in China due to its optimized energy structure and relatively complete, open, and flexible economy system. The paper discusses the above findings and their policy implications. It is also designed to promote research on ETS and to diversify research perspectives of income inequality from both theoretical and practical aspects. Evidence from China's pilot experience with ETS shows that it contributes significantly to balancing income distribution and alleviating the increasingly acute social conflicts caused by income inequality. This provides new theoretical and decision support for the promotion of ETS in the future. The energy revolution driven by ETS promotes income redistribution, which is conducive to income equality. Governments should enforce the constraints of ETS on power generation companies; guide capital to invest more in the non-thermal power industry, especially the renewable energy power sectors; and guide and regulate the income distribution in new power sectors. Governments' revenue from ETS can and should be used to further redistribution of income and to reduce income inequality. This paper evaluates the potential effects of farmers' species preferences on carbon stock in cocoa-based agroforestry systems (CAFS) in the Central Region of Cameroon. To achieve this goal, the species composition and structural variables of two land-use systems were investigated using 26 plots of 30 m × 30 m each, of which 20 were distributed in CAFS and 6 in adjacent secondary forests. Allometric models were used to estimate the species aboveground and root carbon stock. Ordination analysis indicated three types of species management systems: high-density timber and fruit trees; high-density Musaceae, palms and other shading trees; and low-density timber and fruit trees. The average densities of cocoa shading trees and shrubs were 234 ± 136 and 843 ± 360 individuals' ha−1, respectively. Thus, the average potential carbon stock of the sampled CAFS was estimated at 186.97 ± 86.06 Mg C ha−1, 22% representing the root carbon stock. The transformation of secondary forest into various species management systems decreased the aboveground carbon by 18–34%. The annual rate of carbon accumulation estimated based on ring analyses was within the range 2.32–13.74 Mg C ha−1 year−1. The monetary value of the total carbon stored and the carbon accumulation rate were US$4042 ha−1and US$159 ha−1year−1, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Engineering structures consume a significant fraction of resources and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. A conducted literature review shows that most existing approaches to improve the environmental performance of structures concern the adoption of decisions during the conceptual design stage (e.g. on the choice of material), often in connection with life cycle assessment. However, approaches for addressing environmental objectives in practice are often hampered by economic interests pursuing short-term profit. Moreover, such approaches are rather descriptive and lack criteria for assessing the acceptability of specific solutions. Sustainable development of our built environment requires hence a shift of paradigm on how engineering structures are designed. In this paper it is claimed that this should be approached at the strategical level of structural design codes, which contain the rules that support everyday engineering decisions in regard to structural safety and functionality. The paper discusses the reasons why these rules as conceived do not foster an optimal use of materials and explores possibilities for savings of resources and greenhouse gas emissions through modifications of these rules. This paper examines price bubbles in the relatively new carbon emission trading scheme of Beijing carbon market by employing a recently proposed econometric test which can stamp the occurrence and burst of financial bubbles. We find multiple bubbles in Beijing carbon market over the sample period between January 2014 to April 2018, and that the occurrences of carbon price bubbles are closely related to the announcements of environmental policies by the Chinese government. Comparing our results to the EU ETS, we find that the volatility of carbon price in Beijing market is higher than EU, and interestingly, the bubbles in Beijing market occur when the price volatility is relatively low, while in EU market the bubbles correspond to the peaks of volatility. Our empirical results provide insightful policy implications in the context of the actual China's carbon market reform. To achieve effective stabilization of carbon price, policymakers should publicize alert notifications of the price fluctuations, and strengthen the carbon markets supervision and promote its improvement. Based on the relation analysis through the Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model, this study investigates the effect of the construction of low-carbon cities on haze pollution in China by using the Difference in Differences-Propensity Score Matching (PSM-DID) method. In addition, we examine the influencing mechanism of low-carbon city construction on haze pollution, namely technical innovation effect, industrial structure effect and population quality effect. The results show that the construction of low-carbon cities has not effectively reduced haze pollution in pilot cities. Further study shows that the failure of the reduction effect on haze pollution may lie in the ineffectiveness of technical innovation effect and population quality effect of low-carbon city construction, as well as the regional heterogeneity. Finally, we propose several recommendations in terms of overall construction strategies, green development of technology and industry, and regional heterogeneous policies to better alleviate China's haze pollution through the construction of low-carbon cities. To facilitate and balance regional economic development and to reduce carbon emissions, China has implemented a series of policies to promote the redistribution of industries and economic activities across regions since 2000. This paper employs a logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) to analyse the dynamic net effect on carbon emissions of Chinese policies promoting economic redistribution across sub-national regions, using a panel data of five sectors in 30 provinces during 1995–2017. The results of our analysis show that the redistribution of industry in particular, but also business and construction activities, leads to an increase in CO2 emissions, while the relocation of agriculture and transportation activities reduces emissions. We also find that the emission increase effect of the transfer of carbon intensive industries to new (host) regions is higher than the emission reduction effect induced by the agglomeration of clean industries in the original (home) regions. However, from 2014–2017, alongside the gradual industrial redistribution, China has also reduced aggregate CO2 emissions by 58.6 MT. In addition, the results show that population migration, which is due to redistribution of industry and other economic activity, has caused higher emission increases than emission reductions due to redistribution policies. We further calculate the marginal effect of industrial redistribution on CO2 emissions and draw out relevant policy implications. Key policy insights Industrial (and other economic activity) redistribution within a county can be not only an economic policy, but also an important policy instrument to mitigate CO2 emissions. This is the case in China. In the process of regional industrial redistribution, policymakers should aim to reduce the emission increase effect of transfer of carbon-intensive industries to host regions and to raise the emission reduction effect induced by an agglomeration of clean industries in home regions. Industrial redistribution is usually a long-term strategy for regional development within a county, and any reduction effects on CO2 emissions are likely to need time to appear. The arrival of the dual-carbon era indicates that it is imperative to reduce industrial carbon emissions with high carbon emissions. The implementation of carbon emission reduction will inevitably have an impact on industrial development. Three different carbon emission scenarios were established. Based on the average annual carbon emission growth rate of the past decade, it is set as a medium carbon scenario. According to the economic development stage and actual social development situation of each region, the corresponding annual average carbon emission growth rate is increased and decreased to set up high carbon and low carbon scenarios. The adjacent accumulation gray multivariate model for industries is established based on different scenarios. The results indicate that the carbon emission scenarios most suitable for industrial development in various regions are different. Heavy industrial provinces and cities such as Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei have the highest industrial output value under high carbon scenarios; Provinces and cities with high levels of industrialization, such as Jiangsu, Shanghai, Guangdong and Chongqing have the highest industrial output value under low-carbon scenarios. The industrial output value of Hebei is expected to grow the fastest under the high carbon scenario, reaching 2.15 trillion yuan by 2030. The industrial output value of Guangdong achieves the greatest improvement under low-carbon scenario. It is expected that the industrial output value of which will reach 6.86 trillion yuan by 2030, ranking first in the country. Therefore, the setting of carbon emission scenarios needs to be tailored to local conditions, increase technological innovation efforts, and further promote industrial development. The electrospinning technique was used to prepare nanofibers samples consisting of three groups, each group has a different polystyrene concentration (12, 14, 16 wt.%). Multiwalled carbon nanotubes were added to each group with four ratios to yield four samples comprising (polystyrene/MWCNT) constituents. The UV-Visible test was carried out to know how uniformly nanofibers and Mutli-walled carbon nanotubes were distributed in the polymeric nanofibers and their effect on the final nanofiber's properties through the absorption peaks. The morphological test used "Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope". The results showed that; MWCNTS has a dominant effect on prepared nanofibers in the (12 wt.% Polystyrene) group, and both (PS, MWCNT) have a shared effect, highest steady absorption curves, and uniformly scattered radiation at (14 wt.% PS) group, and random results at (16 wt.% PS) group. From FESEM results we notice that increasing polymer concentration causes an increase in the nanofiber's diameter and beads formation chance increases at (12,16 wt.% PS) groups. In the group of (14 wt.% Polystyrene), it produces nanofibers with free beads and uniform distribution, the addition of MWCNT lowers the diameter of nanofibers much more and enhances the orientation, and improves their UV absorption, strength, and mechanical properties. Integrating peatland restoration measures with climate policy is critical for meeting climate targets, but the current policies often fall short of utilizing the large potential that exists. Despite growing private sector interest, few regional voluntary carbon markets for peatlands have emerged worldwide. In this study, we explore three pioneering examples from Europe. From the perspective of social innovation, we aim to provide clarity on how these innovations emerged and developed, which actors drove the innovation process by assuming which roles, and which factors fostered or hindered the development. We do so by mapping the innovation process using Process Net-Map. The results show that all three cases have followed remarkably similar patterns in their innovation processes. Four phases, i.e. preparation, definition, refinement, and up-scaling were identified, as were actors' roles as innovators, promoters, intermediaries, implementers, and knowledge providers. However, the case studies are very different with regard to which actor constellation drove the innovation process: MoorFutures is driven by public and scientific actors, Valuta vor Veen is promoted by civil society actors in consultation with practitioners, and Hiilipörssi shifted from civil society to private actors. The governance modes, that is, actor constellation and their goals, have led to differences in concept, robustness of methodology, mitigation measure, and possibly potential for up-scaling. Our study indicates that the timing of interventions when actors with certain roles stepped in can accelerate the innovation process. Important political, economic, technical, and social factors influencing the innovation process, especially knowledge and trust accumulated between some key actors, are outlined. Private funding for regional voluntary carbon markets (VCMs) can tap the climate mitigation potential from peatlands, which is not currently adequately addressed by governments. Actor constellation drove the innovation process, leading to different concepts, methodologies, and mitigation measures. The timing of interventions by actors, notably providing seed funding, network, expertise and visibility, was critical for success. Building trust for regional VCMs requires not only a robust methodology to calculate emission reductions but also partnership and endorsement. The unflinching surge in global warming has left the world in ecological chaos. Consequently, governments across the globe are committing to achieving decarbonizing the environment with a target aimed at 2050, of which China is a key player. In effect, this study seeks to contribute to the strides by querying the extent to which shocks in technological innovation make or mar the sustainability of the Chinese environment from 1990 to 2019. The other impacts of foreign direct investment, renewable and nonrenewable energy, and economic growth are considered in the model estimated through nonlinear ARDL robust for ascertaining instantaneous positive and negative effects. The results reveal that technological innovation promotes and hinders environmental sustainability based on the positive and negative shocks, respectively, whereas the adverse shocks impede it. Besides, economic growth and nonrenewable energy turn out to be negative predictors of environmental sustainability while renewable energy and FDI facilitate it. The results of the Fourier Toda Yamamoto corroborate the NARDL results. The EKC hypothesis is not validated for China based on estimates from the novel Itkonen (2012) approach. In the era of globalization, information and communication technology (ICT) plays a crucial role in economic development and environmental sustainability. ICT enables economies to interact with each other around the globe, and the current fast ICT mode makes globalization a reality in today's technological world. However, its abrupt rise in installation and operation may increase energy demand and environmental degradation. Thus, this study embarks upon the role of ICT and financial development in shaping a low-carbon environment for sixty Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) economies using balanced panel data spanning 1990–2018. This study adopts the Driscoll–Kraay standard error long-run estimation technique and the Dumitrescu–Hurlin panel causality approach. The results reveal that ICT, financial development, and globalization are negatively related to CO2 emissions; however, economic growth and electricity consumption stimulate CO2 emissions, threatening environmental sustainability. Interestingly, a U-shaped relationship is observed between economic growth and CO2 emissions for BRI economies. Moreover, the causality results reveal bidirectional causal relationships between ICT, financial development and globalization with CO2 emissions. g-C3N4-loaded carbon nanofibers (CNCNF) were obtained via electrostatic spinning and high temperature calcination. Highly crystalline g-C3N4 can be obtained at 800 °C due to the protection of carbon nanofibers. Benefiting from the high conductivity of carbon nanofibers and the high carrier separation efficiency of g-C3N4, CNCNF shows a significantly enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production activity (7.7-fold more than pristine g-C3N4), also, the mechanism of photocatalytic performance enhancement is discussed. The integration or segmentation of regional carbon prices implies that barriers may hinder prices from adjusting efficiently and impede linkages between regional carbon markets. Past studies have found that crossregional carbon prices in China tend to diverge, indicating unbalanced regional markets and that carbon cap-and-trade policies may be insufficiently effective. China's carbon trading pilots opened in 2013. Is the integration efficient? This is the research question addressed in this study. This paper uses the carbon prices of four carbon-trading pilot regions in China (i.e. Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Guangdong) over the period of January 1, 2014, to March 23, 2021, to explore whether prices are correlated across three dimensions: long-term convergence, short-term correlation, and volatility transmission by adopting a vector error correction model with heterogeneous variances. And by using longer-term daily data and empirical tests that can account for the multiple-faceted correlations, this paper provides evidence showing that long-term convergence and risk transfer between the four regional carbon prices exist, which indicates significant regional integration. The results indicate that the price behavior of the Beijing pilot is efficient and that the Shanghai pilot has the lowest volatility. The paper also documents an information transfer pattern. For example, the Beijing pilot is shown to be the leading risk transfer market, whereas the Shanghai pilot is shown to be the market where most risk is transferred. Contrary to findings elsewhere, our main results demonstrate that China's carbon markets exhibit integration efficiency and no imbalance between regions. This may be because the efficiency of China's carbon markets has improved over time. The influence of carbon nanofibers (CNFs) on carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polymer (CFRP) is investigated in this study. A program is developed to generate the finite element model (FEM) for the nanocomposites. The randomness of both CNFs and CF in CFRP is considered. The effects of volume fraction of CNFs and CFs, as well as interfacial strength are analyzed numerically. The improvement in strength and toughness of composites under different loading conditions is investigated. It shows that CNFs lead the redistribution of stress in the matrix, which releases stress concentration between CFs and polymer and increases the initial damage threshold. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An efficient method to increase specific strength of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) by using cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) was developed. Eliminating a complex hydrophobic treatment of CNF by using aqueous electrodeposition solution (EDS) containing a polymer with epoxy group, the CFRP with CNF/resin layer was fabricated. The effects of the CNF/resin layer on the bending properties of CFRP were clarified by varying the weight fractions of CNF. The specific flexural rigidity and strength of the CFRP with CNF/resin layer were increased to approximately 3.5 times and 1.8 times those of the CFRP without CNF/resin layer, respectively. The paper develops a methodological approach that acts as a tool for active change agents working in community and just transition contexts to increase their capacity to engage a wider public in planning. An innovative contribution is made to the literature through the development of a participatory action research (PAR) based approach to social network analysis using a participatory mapping method with relation to sustainable transitions. The method comprises a participatory network mapping approach, adapted from the Net-Map toolkit, which is applied to a multi-stakeholder approach to realising a regional sustainability transition in the Republic of Ireland. Dingle Peninsula 2030 is an initiative aiming to transition a geographic region in the South West of Ireland to a low-carbon society by 2030 across the sectors of energy, agriculture, transport, education, employment, marine and tourism. Due to the scope of the overall project, a diverse range of stakeholders are involved. The method developed is used to undertake a qualitative collaborative social network analysis. The paper focuses on method, by analysing and reflecting upon the use of this participatory approach, in the initial stages of the overall project, in addressing complex sustainability and just transition challenges as they are revealed through a multi-stakeholder approach. Within this, the themes of participatory justice, social learning and visualising complexity are explored; and benefits and future improvements are outlined through reflections from both the researcher and the participant community. Ionizable LNPs are the latest trend in nucleic acid delivery. Microfluidics technology has recently gained interest owing to its rapid mixing, production of nucleic acid-ionizable LNPs, and stability of nucleic acid inside the body. Industrial scale-up, nucleic acid-lipid long-term storage instability, and high production costs prompted scientists to seek alternate solutions to replace microfluidic technology. We proposed a single-pot, organic solvent-free thermocycling technology to efficiently and economically overcome most of the limitations of microfluidic technology. New thermocycling technology needs optimization of process parameters such as sonication duration, cooling-heating cycle, number of thermal cycles, and lipid:aqueous phase ratio to formulate precisely sized particles, effective nucleic acid encapsulation, and better shelf-life stability. Our research led to the formulation of siRNA-ionizable LNPs with particle sizes of 104.2 ± 34.7 nm and PDI 0.111 ± 0.109, with 83.3 ± 4.1% siRNA encapsulation. Thermocycling siRNA-ionizable LNPs had comparable morphological structures with commercialized microfluidics ionizable LNPs imaged by TEM and cryo-TEM. When compared to microfluidics ionizable LNPs, thermocycling siRNA-ionizable LNPs had a longer shelf life at 4°C. Our thermocycling technology showed an effective alternative to microfluidics technology in the production of nucleic acid-ionizable LNPs to meet global demand. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A simple low-cost one-pot photodeposition synthesis with no hazardous reactants or products is used to make silver nanoparticles-activated carbon composite (SNPs@AC). The SNPs are homogenously and photodeposited and absorbed into the activated carbon matrix. Both SNPs and SNPs@AC composite have particle sizes around 10 nm and 100 nm, respectively. The SNPs@AC composite showed good antiviral activity to VERO (ATCC ccl-81) cells. Zeta potential of SNPs@AC composite is −25 mV, showing that this colloidal system is electrically stable and resistant to coagulation. For many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, the SNPs@AC composite demonstrated strong antibacterial efficacy. The SNPs@AC composite has 75.72 percent anti-inflammatory effect at concentration 500 µg/mL. This composite has a maximum non-toxic concentration (MNTC) of 78.125 g/mL, which corresponds to antiviral activity of up to 96.7 percent against hepatitis A. virus (HAV). It is suggested as a candidate for pharmaceutical formulations, such as integration into the manufacture of N95 masks for COVID-19 infection protection. Concentration 160 μg/mL SNPs@AC composite has antioxidant activity 42.74% percent. The SNPs@AC composite exhibited selective catalytic activity for the organosynthesis hydrazination reaction of 4-chloro-3, 5-di-nitro-benzo-triflouride, giving 1-hydroxy-4-nitro-6-trifluoro-methyl benzotriazole, a common antiviral drug for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). SNPs@composite's well-defined pores provide suitable active sites for binding reactants: 4-Cl-3, 5-di-NO2-benzotriflouride, and hydrazine, which react to create 1-hydroxy-4-nitro-6-trifluoromethyl benzotriazole, which diffuses into solution away from the catalyst surface, leaving the catalyst surface unaffected. Studies on the quantification and spatial distribution of stored carbon, as well as the potential for carbon uptake by forests, are of great importance. We assessed the spatial distribution and dynamic of carbon in forest plots in the Middle Xingu. These plots are part of the vegetation monitoring area of the Belo Monte Dam. We estimated the biomass of trees with diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥10 cm using an allometric equation with forest inventory data in the eastern Amazonian region in the Xingu River area. We evaluated the vegetation structure and carbon stock dynamic in 2012, 2014, and 2016, and temporal effects on carbon uptake. The periodic annual increase in carbon was significantly higher between 2012 and 2014 (2.5 Mg ha−1) than between 2014 and 2016 (1.84 Mg ha−1). Plant biomass was highly influenced by the abundance of species with low diameters (between 10 cm and 50 cm DBH). Despite the mortality rate being higher than the recruitment in the second period (2014–2016), we found that the forest did function as a carbon sink but showing increases in carbon emissions. Research on the Geography of Sustainability Transitions (GOST) has enhanced our understanding in how place-based factors condition sustainability transitions. Its emphasis on the geography of niche development, however, neglects regime-level responses to regional sustainably transitions imperatives. Given the urgency of sustainability transitions, recent sustainability transitions research has emphasized an active destabilization and/or phase-out of incumbent carbon-intensive industries. However, this poses normative and practical challenges for regions heavily dependent in these sectors. Here the challenge is how to ensure an inclusive transition. This paper contributes to GOST by focusing on distributional and procedural dimensions of policy mixes, relying on just transition and institutionalist literature. Our longitudinal case study of two Norwegian oil-dependent regions, Stord and Verdal identifies phases separated by critical junctures, with different policy mixes. Underpinned by the Norwegian tripartite cooperation model, the multi-scalar policy mixes in the regions has focused on the sector's decarbonization, rather than its phase-out, while developing renewable energy sectors through technology-push. Supporting short term business as usual, this provides the industry time to prepare for emerging renewable technologies and reducing negative impacts of transitions. Thermal-optical analysis (TOA) has long been used to quantify organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) on quartz-fiber filter samples collected in national ambient air monitoring networks. In the routine analysis of samples from the Chemical Speciation Network (CSN), we observed a considerable fraction of filter punches that remain gray or black in color after TOA was completed, suggesting the presence of EC that was not fully evolved at the highest temperature specified by the IMPROVE_A protocol (840°C). In this work, we explored the operational conditions necessary to evolve and quantify such residual EC. First, four heavily loaded CSN samples were analyzed to evaluate modifications to the IMPROVE_A protocol. We found that adding a higher temperature step at 930°C more effectively evolved the residual EC than did lengthening the duration of the 840°C step. Compared with the standard IMPROVE_A results, the modified protocol evolved additional EC of 1.08 to 4.45 µg cm−2 in mass, or 0.12 to 0.50 µg m−3 in concentration. This excess EC accounts for 27.1% to 45.3% of the total EC and 7.6% to 25.1% of the total carbon by standard IMPROVE_A. We then analyzed over 2600 samples from CSN using the extended IMPROVE_A protocol with higher maximum temperature (930°C). A total of 168 samples (6.4% of the total samples analyzed) contained measurable EC at the 930°C step. The average fraction of the evolvable residual EC mass in total EC is 5.7%, and up to 28% for samples with high total EC mass loading (i.e., 95th percentile and above). Implications: Our results suggest that CSN EC measured by the standard IMPROVE_A protocol should be considered a lower limit, and that a higher maximum heating temperature can be used to better quantify EC from CSN sites impacted by fresh urban emissions. Carbon nanofibers are promising green materials for sustainable technology within a wide range of applications including environment, energy, health and high-technology. Accordingly, drug adsorption is an important subject in connection with its environmental and pharmaceutical applications. This study aims to investigate the adsorption performance of carbon nanofibers in batch and fixed bed column processes. Carbon nanofibers were used as adsorbent to remove triflupromazine hdyrochloride from aqueous solutions. Adsorption kinetics were studied using Lagergren first order and Pseudo second order models. Intraparticle diffusion graph was plotted using kinetic data and showed that intraparticle diffusion is the single step controlling the adsorption rate. Experimental equilibrium data was modeled by using Langmuir and Freundlich equations and has a better fit to the Langmuir model. Triflupromazine adsorption on carbon nanofibers was found to be H-type according to Giles classification. The effect of temperature and the effect of pH on adsorption were studied to determine optimum adsorption conditions. Adsorption capacity of carbon nanofibers was decreased with increasing temperature due to the exothermic and physical nature of the process. Thermodynamic parameters confirmed the exothermic nature of the adsorption. Results showed the effective adsorption of drug molecules by carbon nanofibers. Maximum adsorption capacity was calculated as 165.41 mg/g at pH 9 using Langmuir equation. Modeling of the fixed bed column data was done by using Thomas model and Yoon–Nelson model. Results showed the important effect of the operating conditions on the removal performance of carbon nanofibers. Polymeric nanocomposites of polystyrene nanofibers and multiwall carbon nanotubes and natural pigment were synthesized using electrospinning technique the polystyrene concentration was 12 wt.% and multiwall carbon nanotube was added by (0, 100, 140, 200 ppm), and natural pigment added by two drops (0.063 g) to the prepared solutions and many tests were carried out to the prepared solutions and the final samples. The solution tests included viscosity test by using cone-plate viscometer and surface tension test using du-nouy ring method. The nano textiles tests included the Fourier transform infrared spectroscope (FTIR) test, Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) test, contact angle test, and ultraviolet test to extract the energy bandgap using (tauc plot) method. The tests results showed that the viscosity increased by increasing the multiwall carbon nanotube and natural pigment and surface tension slightly increased at a high ratio of 200 ppm of multiwall carbon nanotube and natural pigment and physical type of reaction between the components were confirmed through FTIR, and the addition of multiwall carbon nanotube and natural pigment makes the fibers smoother and fewer beads formation and increase the multiwall carbon nanotube addition made the samples more hydrophobic and the charts of tauc plot show that increasing the MWCNT with natural pigment addition will increase the electrical sensitivity of the prepared samples in which the energy band gap dropped from 1.18 ev to 0.2 ev for the sample of Polystyrene/200 ppm MWCNT/natural pigment this is regarded as an indication of using it as a typical electrical sensor. This paper discusses options to increase mitigation ambition in crediting mechanisms that serve the Paris Agreement (PA), such as the Article 6.4 mechanism. Under the Clean Development Mechanism and other crediting mechanisms, baselines have been specified in the form of greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity factors and linked to business-as-usual developments. This means that with increasing production of goods and services through carbon market activities, absolute emissions may increase or fall only slowly. At a global level, such an approach widens the 'emissions gap'. To enable continued use of emissions intensity baselines in crediting mechanisms while being in line with the PA's goal to pursue efforts to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C, we propose to apply an 'ambition coefficient' to emissions intensities of technologies when establishing the baseline. This coefficient would decrease to reflect increasing ambition over time, and reach zero when a country needs to reach net zero emissions. Due to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, the coefficient would fall more quickly for developed than for developing countries. The latter would be able to generate emission reduction credits well beyond 2050, while for the former, crediting would stop around 2035 or before. An ambition coefficient approach would generate certainty for carbon market investors and preserve trust in international carbon markets that operate in line with the agreed, long-term ambition of the international climate regime. An ambition coefficient can help to align carbon market activities with net zero GHG emission pathways at country level, and ensure that carbon markets will not lead to a lock-in of emissions in participating countries. The ambition coefficient approach can serve as a 'bridging proposal' for the operationalization of PA carbon markets. It may resolve negotiation gridlock between those who want to increase stringency in carbon market instruments and those who think mitigation ambition should be generated through more stringent NDCs, facilitated by cost savings and increased financial resources generated by international carbon markets. The use of an ambition coefficient can enable the alignment of existing methodologies with necessary ambition levels to implement the PA, while also keeping transaction costs low. Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with excellent conductivity and stability have become a promising material to design the strain sensing network. To date, however, the effect of the stacked structure of CNF membrane on the sensing performance has rarely been studied. In this work, we reported a high-performance sensor based on the cross-stacked aligned CNF membrane. The effects of cross-stacked structures on the sensing characteristics were systematically investigated. The flexible strain sensor could capture low detection limit (<0.1%) with a gauge factor (GF) of 4.24 and wide strain range up to 130%. The uniform GF value reached 2050 when the strain was in the range of 100–130%. In addition, the high linearity under 40% strain (>0.998), excellent durability and quick response time (<200 ms) were demonstrated. The excellent comprehensive performances were simultaneously obtained. The sensor could be used in extensive applications, such as monitoring body movements and distinguishing the track of writing. Nanomaterials are chemical compounds or substances which are moderately produced and used. Nanomaterials are engineered to reveal novel properties of nanocells that contrast with related non-visible substances, such as expanded consistency, conductivity or synthetic reaction. Topological indexes are quantities related to molecules that capture the harmony of molecular structures and give scientifically related properties, such as: viscosity, boiling point, radius of gravity, and so on. Their demands in genetics, chemistry, physics and nanoscience are infinite. The molecular topology of such compounds would be clarify by the quantitative structure properties relationship (QSPR) and quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR). Two carbon nanosheet structures such as V C 5 C 7 and H C 5 C 7 have been discussed in this article. We also computed ev-degree and ve-degree based topological indices of these structures. This paper develops a novel hybrid Trigonometric Envelopment Analysis for Ideal Solutions (TEA-IS) model to assess the ecological efficiency of 248 Chinese cities for a 14-year period and employs a difference-in-difference approach to reveal the mechanism of the impact of low-carbon pilot city policies on ecological efficiency from the perspective of green technology innovation. This TEA-IS approach not only combines the advantageous features that exist in each individual model, but also allows an analysis of ecological efficiency in terms of the synergistic effects that may exist among correlated positive and negative criteria. Machine learning methods are also employed to predict high-low performance and synergistic Chinese cities in terms of the socio-economic and demographic context. Results indicate that ecological efficiency is generally low in Chinese cities. In this study, conductive and transparent polycaprolactone (PCL)/carbon black (CB) nanofibers are produced by electrospinning. In order to investigate the effect of solvent system on the optoelectrical properties of PCL/CB nanofibers, the fibers are produced from two different solvent systems; namely, chloroform (CHL) and dimetyl formamid (DMF). For optoelectrical characterization, nanofibers are produced with different deposition times in the range of 1–10 minutes. Surface, optical, electrical and optoelectrical properties of the PCL/CB nanofibers are evaluated. Nanofibers produced from CHL solvent system results in non-uniform nanofibers with higher diameters. They also give a larger diameter distribution. On the other hand, nanofibers with uniform and smaller diameters are obtained from DMF system. UV-spectrophotometer analysis show that nanofiber mats produced from both solvent systems have similar optical transparencies. Lower sheet resistance values are obtained with the nanofiber mats produced from DMF system according to electrical characterizations. Higher Figure of Merit values are calculated for the nanofiber mats produced in DMF solvent system. Considering all the results, it can be concluded that PCL/CB nanofibers produced from DMF solvent system are better candidates compared to the nanofibers produced from CHL solvent system for optoelectrical applications.
