The article discusses the role of photography in influencing cultures and determines its capacity in validating history. It discusses the issues associated with the use of technology in manipulating images which can represent the truth and has became a powerful tool in hiding the reality. It then relates the personal experience of the author as a journalist in challenging the control of propagandist's power over the media. Moreover, it discusses the emerging advocacy for new expression of the formerly known Third World that challenges the western countries' rhetorics of democracy.

A personal narrative is presented which explores the author's experience of going to Bangladesh after the occurrence of a cyclone in 1991.

The article presents the author's sociocultural observations as a photographer. He describes the lifestyle and experience of other members of the photographic community in Bangladesh. He states that the South Asian School of photography Pathshala's basic course helped break age and class barriers and women photographers were emerging. He feels that South Asian photographers have not received due international recognition and expresses his confidence in them.
