Dianella ensifolia (L.) Redouté 1802 is a plant known for its significant medicinal values. In this study, we presented its chloroplast genome. The length of the chloroplast genome was found to be 156,571 bp, with a GC content of 37.86%. It consisted of a large single-copy (LSC) of 85,318 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) of 18,307 bp, a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 26,473 bp each that separated the LSC and SSC regions. The chloroplast genome of D. ensifolia consisted of 114 unique genes, including 80 protein-coding genes, four rRNA genes, and 30 tRNA genes. Through phylogenetic analysis, we identified a close relationship between D. ensifolia and D. nigra. This newly sequenced chloroplast genome not only enhances our understanding of the genome of Dianella, but also provides valuable insights for the evolutionary study of the family Asphodelaceae. To investigate the expression of HMGB1 and toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in adenomyosis eutopic/ectopic endometrium. Twenty patients with adenomyosis and 20 controls, all undergoing laparoscopy, were recruited from September 2015 to July 2016. Samples were collected from the endometrium without adenomyosis (CE), the eutopic endometrium with adenomyosis (EuE), and the ectopic endometrium with adenomyosis (EE). The mRNA and protein expression of HMGB1 and TLR4, and interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) RNA expression levels were measured. The average age of the adenomyosis women was 43.4 ± 5.3 years; their BMI was 23.3 ± 2.3 kg/m2. The control group included women aged 38.8 ± 9.8 years, with BMI 22.2 ± 3.4 kg/m2. The mRNA expression levels of HMGB1, TLR4, IL-6, and IL-8 in the EE and EuE groups were higher than those in the CE group (p <.01), and those in the EE group were higher than those in the EuE group (p <.01). The protein expression levels of HMGB1 and TLR4 in the EE and EuE groups were higher than those in the CE group (p <.01); they were higher in the EE group than the ones in the EuE group (p <.01). HMGB1 mRNA was significantly positively correlated with TLR4 in EuE and EC patients (r = 0.538 and r = 0.916, p <.01), as well as with IL-6 (r = 0.470 and r = 0.976, p <.01) and IL-8 (r = 0.574 and r = 0.650, p <.01). The overexpression of HMGB1 and TLR4 in EuE and EE is positively correlated with IL-6 and IL-8 expression. To investigate the factors affecting the efficacy of ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous microwave ablation (PMWA) for adenomyosis with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB-A). Baseline data of patients with AUB-A who underwent US-guided PMWA treatment between October 2020 and October 2021, including demography characteristics, laboratory and imaging examination results were retrospectively analyzed. 3D reconstruction of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was applied to quantitatively assess the local treatment responses, including ratio of non-perfusion volume to adenomyosis volume (NPVr), ablation rate of the endometrial-myometrial junction (EMJ), and surface area (SA) of the ablated part of the EMJ. Patients were followed up at 3, 6, and 12 months after treatment, and divided into two groups: group with complete relief (CR), and group with partial relief (PR) or no relief (NR). Data were compared between them. Thirty-one patients were analyzed with a mean age of 38.7 ± 6.8 years (range: 24–48): 48.4% (15/31), 63.3% (19/30), and 65.5% (19/29) achieved CR at 3, 6, and 12 months, respectively. In univariate analysis, compared with the PR/NR group, serum CA125 levels were significantly lower in CR group at 3 months, while ablation rates of EMJ and SA of the ablated part of the EMJ were significantly higher at the three time points. Other baseline characteristics and NPVr did not differ between the two groups. Objective: To investigate the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as a treatment option for primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) and risk factors for postablative eucalcemic parathyroid hormone elevation (ePTH). Methods: This retrospective study included 51 patients with pHPT who underwent RFA. The patients were divided into the ePTH and normal PTH groups, based on the serum intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) level one month after ablation. Serum iPTH, calcium, and phosphorus levels, and the volume reduction rates (VRR) of the parathyroid glands were compared between the groups at each follow-up point. Risk factors for ePTH at one month after ablation were examined. Results: After RFA, one (2%) patient had persistent pHPT, and 50 (98%) patients were cured. The incidence rates of ePTH at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months were 48%, 30%, 20%, and 16%, respectively. Serum iPTH levels in the ePTH group were higher than those in the normal PTH group at each follow-up point (all p < 0.05), except 1 day after ablation (p > 0.05). Serum calcium and phosphorus levels, and the VRR of the glands were comparable in both groups at each follow-up point (all p > 0.05), except for calcium levels 3 days after RFA (p < 0.05). Baseline iPTH (odds ratio, 1.067; p ¼ 0.045) and calcium (odds ratio, 3.923; p ¼ 0.038) levels were independent risk factors for ePTH 1 month after RFA. Conclusions: RFA is safe and effective for the treatment of pHPT. Moreover, ePTH occurrence after RFA was associated with baseline iPTH and calcium levels and did not increase the risk of recurrent pHPT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel gold nanoparticle (Do-AuNP) was successfully synthesized from water extracts of traditional Chinese medicine Dendrobium officinale (DO) without using any extra chemicals regents. The physicochemical properties of Do-AuNPs were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. The amount of DO extract on the AuNPs was about 13%. In order to evaluate the anti-tumor efficiency and biosafety, the inhibitory rate of HepG2 cells and survival rate of L02 cells were performed in vitro, and the immunohistochemical analysis of H&E, Ki-67, and TUNEL staining were conducted in vivo. Our results demonstrated that Do-AuNP had better anti-tumor efficiency compared with DO extraction alone without increasing toxicity in vivo and in vitro. To compare the clinical outcomes of microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT). This retrospective study included 104 pHPT patients treated by MWA or RFA between January 2015 and March 2020 in four centers. The clinical outcomes including effectiveness and complications were compared between the two groups. Ablation cure was defined as the reestablishment of normal values of serum calcium and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) at least more than 6 months. Clinical cure was defined as the reestablishment of normal values of serum calcium and iPTH throughout the entire follow-up period. A total of 77 patients underwent MWA (mean age, 55.5 ± 16.4 years) and 27 underwent RFA (mean age, 58.9 ± 15.6 years). During the follow-up (median, 18.7 months in the MWA group; 12 months in the RFA group), no difference was observed between ablation cure rates (88.3% vs. 88.9%, p = 1.000), clinical cure rates (87.0% vs. 82.3%, p =.880), recurrent pHPT (5.2% vs. 3.7%, p =.447), persistent pHPT (11.7% vs. 11.1%, p = 1.000) and complication rate (9.1% vs. 3.7%, p =.677). A maximum diameter less than 0.7 cm was an independent prognostic factor of uncured pHPT in ablation (hazard ratio, 0.1; 95% confidence interval: 0.02, 0.54; p =.007). Major complication – voice change encountered in five patients (6.5%) in the MWA group and in one patient (3.7%) in the RFA group. One new indole diterpenoid, drechmerin I (1), was isolated from the fermentation broth of Drechmeria sp. isolated from the root of Panax notoginseng. Its structure was elucidated based on 1 D and 2 D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), high resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrum (HRESIMS), and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopic analyses as well as TD DFT calculations of ECD spectra. Drechmerin I (1) was assayed for its antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, B. subtillis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumonia, respectively. Drechmerin I (1) showed antimicrobial activities against B. subtillis with an MIC value of 200 μg/mL. Objectives: Prolactin (PRL) is a polypeptide hormone that is known to stimulate humoral and cell mediated immune responses. PRL levels have been investigated in several autoimmune diseases including multiple sclerosis (MS); however, these have yielded different and inconsistent results. This study aims to perform a more precise evaluation on the plasma/serum PRL levels in MS patients, and to explore the available influential factors.Methods: Research related to plasma/serum PRL levels in MS patients and healthy controls were gathered using PubMed, EMBASE and The Cochrane Library database (until Mar 31 2016). Pooled standard mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated by fixed-effects or random-effect model analysis. Heterogeneity test was performed by the Q statistic and quantified using I2, and publication bias was evaluated using a funnel plot and Egger's linear regression test.Results: 516 articles were obtained after searching databases, and 8 studies with 426 MS patients and 296 controls were finally included. Meta-analysis revealed that, compared with the control group, the MS group had significantly higher plasma/serum PRL levels, with the SMD of 0.55 and 95%CI (0.39, 0.72). Subgroup analyses showed that region, age and disease duration were associated with PRL level in MS patients.Conclusion: In summary, our meta-analysis revealed a significantly higher PRL level in MS patients than healthy controls, and it is influenced by region, age and disease duration. Context: Most of the present studies on the antitumor efficiency of Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf (Gramineae) are limited to its low-mass compounds, and little information about the antitumor activity of polysaccharides from this plant is available. Objectives: This study focused on the potential antitumor and immunomodulatory activities of polysaccharides (CCPS) from C. citratus. Materials and methods: CCPS was isolated using the water extraction-ethanol precipitation method. The sarcoma 180 (S180) cells-inoculated mice were intraperitoneally administrated with CCPS (30-200 mg/kg/d) for seven consecutive days. The effects of CCPS on tumor growth, thymus and spleen weights, splenocyte proliferation, and cytokine secretion in the tumor-bearing mice were measured. The cytotoxicity of CCPS (50-800 μg/mL) towards S180 cells was also studied. Results: CCPS significantly inhibited the growth of the transplanted S180 tumors, with the inhibition rates ranging from 14.8 to 37.8%. Simultaneously, CCPS dose-dependently improved the immunity of the tumor-bearing mice. With the highest dose of 200 mg/kg/d, the thymus and spleen indices were increased by 21.9 and 91.9%, respectively; ConA- and LSP-induced splenocyte proliferations were increased by 32.7 and 35.3%, respectively. The secretions of interleukin 2 (IL-2), interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 2 (IL-12), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were increased by 103.2, 40.2, 23.6, and 26.3%, respectively. Nevertheless, almost no toxicity of CCPS towards S180 cells was observed, with the maximal inhibition rate less than 15% at the CCPS concentration of 800 μg/mL. Context. Alpinia oxyphylla Miquel (Zingiberaceae) is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine widely used for the treatment of intestinal disorders, urosis and diuresis. However, information about antioxidant and cytotoxic properties of its fruits remains to be elucidated. Objective: The ethanol crude extract (CE) and its fractions [petroleum ether fraction (PF), ethyl acetate fraction (EF), n-butanol fraction (BF) and water fraction (WF) extracted by petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, n-butanol and water, respectively] of A. oxyphylla fruits were investigated for their antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity. Materials and methods: The total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activity of the extracts were determined by Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•), Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity and reducing power assay. Cytotoxicity of the extracts (0-200 μg/mL) was tested on six human cancer cell lines (breast cancer cell line, cervix carcinoma cell line, lung adenocarcinoma cell line, liver carcinoma cell line, gastric cancer cell line and colon cancer cell line) using the sulforhodamine B assay. Results: The TPC of extracts varied from 8.2 to 20.3 mg gallic acid equivalents/g dry weight. DPPH radical scavenging effect of extracts decreased in the order of EF > BF > CE > PF > WF, with IC50 values ranging from 74.7 to 680.8 μg/mL. 2,2-azo-bis(3-Ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfoic acid) diammonium salt scavenging activity ranged from 0.118 to 0.236 mmol Trolox equivalence/mg extract. The extracts exhibited concentration-dependent reducing power, and EF showed the highest reducing ability. A satisfactory correlation ( R2 > 0.826) between TPC and antioxidant activity was observed. In addition, EF, PF and CE exhibited potent anticancer effects on six cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 40.1 to 166.3 μg/mL. Discussion and conclusion: The ethanol extract of A. oxyphylla fruit, especially the EF, was found to possess potent antioxidant and anticancer activities, and thus a great potential for the application in food and drug products. The volatile organic compounds from flowers, leaves, and stems of Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum, obtained through a static headspace technique, were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and accurate mass measurement. The qualitative approach, comprising accurate mass measurement, retention index, and mass spectral search, was utilized to identify compounds. A total of 162 components were identified, representing 97.55-98.72% of the volatiles of individual samples. The principal chemical components in flowers were bornyl acetate (15.40%), α-phellandrene (14.18%), p-cymene (9.64%), camphor (9.54%), β-linalool (8.61%), and α-thujone (7.06%). In leaves, the main components were p-cymene (20.42%), bornyl acetate (20.41%), α-phellandrene (13.67%), and β-linalool (5.46%). As for stems, trans-β-farnesene (17.95%), germacrene D (12.89%), β-phellandrene (12.70%), β-caryophyllene (10.18%), and bicyclogermacrene (8.01%) were the dominant volatile compounds. Comparative studies on the volatiles from various species of genus Dendranthema indicated that Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum contains significantly more aroma compounds than its morphologically similar species. Conventional network management based on simple network management protocol (SNMP) is often run in a centralized manner. The centralized management approach is limited to small-scale networks because it incurs excessive processing load and heavy network traffic in the management station. For scalability, this paper presents a new management framework that integrates mobile agents with the SNMP protocol. The mobile agent technology provides support for distributed network management. The integrated framework allows the network operators to deploy an appropriate management approach according to the characteristics of target networks and the nature of management activities. A quantitative latency model is developed for the mobile agent based approach. We have implemented a prototype of the framework based on an in-house developed Naplet mobile agent docking environment and the AdventNet SNMP package. We have experimented with the system in network interface performance monitoring and fault diagnosis applications. Experimental results demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of centralized and distributed management approaches and the flexibility of the integrated framework and verify the accuracy of the latency model. The article describes the case of a 37-year-old Asian woman who developed hepatomegaly, ascites, jaundice and weight gain after ingesting gynura root. A month following ingestion of the herbal medicine, she complained of upper abdominal pain, fatigue and poor appetite, aggravated by abdominal distention. A laparoscopic abdominal exploration and liver biopsy operation revealed a congestive liver without nodules, while postoperative pathology indicated that the central venous hepatic lobule and hepatic sinusoid were significantly congestive and extensive.
