In the present work, GdMnO3 samples were synthesized by acetate precursor based modified sol–gel method with different sintering temperatures. XRD was performed to understand the structural properties of the samples which imply that samples possess single phasic nature with orthorhombic structure. UV–vis absorption spectrum was analyzed using Tauc's relation which gives a direct band gap of ∼ 0.98 eV for the GdMnO3 sample sintered at 1100 °C. Variation in dielectric and impedance with sintering temperature has been discussed in the context of oxygen vacancies and ZDE mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
