The article offers information on the effectiveness of motivational interviewing for adolescents with self-destructive behavior and substance abuse record. A motivational interviewing was developed for treating substance abuse and other disorders that have an addictive quality. The process is a brief intervention that can be use into a single session as well as in non-psychiatric settings. Motivational interviewing involves five techniques, including open-ended, reflective listening, and eliciting self-motivational statements.
