AbstractVirtue is a significant but underexplored factor in comprehending posttraumatic growth and psychosocial adaptation in the aftermath of traumatic loss. While empirical evidence suggests that the dominant virtues and their combinations can vary among individuals, the specific variances and their unique impacts remain uncertain. This research investigated the virtue profiles, based on five virtue subfactors of the Virtue-based Psychosocial Adaptation Model, in association with posttraumatic growth and demographics among 257 South Koreans who experienced either direct or vicarious traumatic loss. Using latent profile analysis, three virtue profiles were discerned: high, mid, and low-virtue groups. Of the participants, 33.9% were categorized into the high-virtue group, displaying pronounced levels across all five virtue sub-factors. The mid-virtue group, comprising 59.9% of participants, exhibited moderate levels for these virtues. The low-virtue group, which encompassed 6.2%, showed the lowest levels across the virtue factors. The high-virtue group demonstrated the most pronounced posttraumatic growth, followed by mid and low-virtue groups. Age, socio-economic status (SES), and chronic illness or disability (CID) were demographic determinants significantly associated with profile memberships. Older age and higher SES were associated with the high-virtue group compared to the mid-group. CID status was a predictor of the mid-virtue group, compared to high-group. The findings suggest the necessity of tailored approaches, which acknowledge the interdependence of virtues and consider the diverse backgrounds and environments of individuals for more nuanced and effective support. This research underpins an integrated theoretical framework incorporating brand equity theory and affect transfer theory to investigate relationships among fandom, destination brand equity, destination attachment, and travel intention. Utilizing partial least structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique with a sample of 577 fans, the study reveals positive relationships between two types of fandom, and between destination attachment and travel intention. Notably, it identifies the statistically significant mediating role of destination brand equity and the serial mediating role of both destination brand equity and destination attachment. This study investigated how the online health information behaviors of U.S. adults with illnesses unrelated to COVID-19 virus infection affected their coping with health problems and concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. Guided by the cybercoping model (Kim & Lee, 2014), the study examined associations between these patients' online information behaviors (information seeking and information forwarding) and coping outcomes (health problems and affective states). The study further explored the mediating roles of health coping processes (problem-and emotion-focused) in the associations between these information behaviors and coping outcomes. Survey data from 687 participants were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results highlighted the significance of information forwarding in enhancing both coping processes and outcomes, while information seeking enhanced problem-focused coping and health-problem coping outcomes alone. These associations were more pronounced among U.S. adults without chronic conditions than among those with chronic illnesses. Extant research has examined country-of-origin (CoO) from a marketing perspective, examining the effects of consumers' evaluations of a country's image on attitudes toward products from the country. To advance research on CoO, there are calls to approach CoO from the perspectives of other disciplines. From the perspective of public relations, this study conceptualizes country-of-origin relationship (CoOR) and examines it as individuals' evaluations of a country's pursuit of a mutually beneficial relationship with their home countries. Using South Korea as an example, survey data collected from a representative sample of 514 Australian citizens found a positive association between CoOR and evaluations of the relational efforts made by multinational companies from South Korea. In response to a hypothetical event involving a South Korean company in a crisis in Australia, those who evaluated South Korean companies positively were less likely to subscribe to conspiracy theories related to the company involved, attribute responsibility to it or engage in negative megaphoning. The findings of this study suggest that CoOR, which consists of interactional bilateralism, power mutuality, relational trust, relational satisfaction and relational commitment, is critical in reducing the "foreignness" of a multinational company. This paper presents a multiscale progressive fatigue damage model to predict the fatigue life of composite laminates. The multi-level damage model was employed considering the interfacial debonding effect, and effective material properties were calculated through homogenization. Damage variables and damage slopes were defined at the constituent level, and fatigue damage parameters were obtained using the residual stiffness data with the chaotic firefly algorithm. The model was implemented into ABAQUS, then validated with flat-bar and pin-loaded specimens of AS4/3501-6 composite. This study employs the AIDA framework and reception theory to explore the nexus between Netflix content exposure and travel intention. Findings unveil the underlying mechanisms involving exposure to content on Netflix, the appeal of a featured destination, and the behavioural intention to visit. Exposure to negative Netflix content elicits more unfavorable attitudes toward a destination compared to positive content or commercials. Participants' prior overseas travel experiences influence visit intention, emphasizing the impact of past encounters on perceptions of featured destinations. The mitogenome of Euphausia crystallorophias collected from the Ross Sea Region Marine Protected Area (RSR MPA) is described for the first time. The assembled mitogenome was 17,291 bp in length and consisted of two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), and noncoding regions, all of which were identical to those of other euphausiid species. The most common start codon for the 13 PCGs was ATG, and the most common termination codon was TAA. The overall G + C content was 33.2% in the heavy strand. Euphausia crystallorophias was sister to E. superba in the phylogenetic analysis. The mitogenome of E. crystallorophias provided significant DNA molecular data for further identification and phylogenetic analysis within the euphausiids. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The extent to which performance validity (PVT) and symptom validity (SVT) tests measure separate constructs is unclear. Prior research using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2 & RF) suggested that PVTs and SVTs are separate but related constructs. However, the relationship between Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) SVTs and PVTs has not been explored. This study aimed to replicate previous MMPI research using the PAI, exploring the relationship between PVTs and overreporting SVTs across three subsamples, neurodevelopmental (attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)/learning disorder), psychiatric, and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Participants included 561 consecutive referrals who completed the Test of Memory Malingering (TOMM) and the PAI. Three subgroups were created based on referral question. The relationship between PAI SVTs and the PVT was evaluated through multiple regression analysis. The results demonstrated the relationship between PAI symptom overreporting SVTs, including Negative Impression Management (NIM), Malingering Index (MAL), and Cognitive Bias Scale (CBS), and PVTs varied by referral subgroup. Specifically, overreporting on CBS but not NIM and MAL significantly predicted poorer PVT performance in the full sample and the mTBI sample. In contrast, none of the overreporting SVTs significantly predicted PVT performance in the ADHD/learning disorder sample but conversely, all SVTs predicted PVT performance in the psychiatric sample. The results partially replicated prior research comparing SVTs and PVTs and suggested that constructs measured by SVTs and PVTs vary depending upon population. AbstractWith the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), this study aims to examine the interplay among the perceived usability, perceived enjoyment, perceived responsiveness, and intention to continue using ChatGPT. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to investigate our proposed model. We recruited 446 ChatGPT users through an online survey conducted on the Connect platform, powered by CloudResearch. Perceived usability (β = 0.254) and enjoyment (β = 0.438) significantly influence satisfaction with ChatGPT. However, perceived responsiveness is not significantly related to perceived attachment or satisfaction. Furthermore, we established that perceived attachment (β = 0.405) and satisfaction (β = 0.447) are pivotal in shaping users’ intentions to continue using ChatGPT, providing insights into human–AI interactions. The practical implications of our findings suggest that generative AI chatbots should be crafted with a focus on enjoyable, user-centered interfaces that foster long-term user satisfaction and engagement. Exoskeletons have been recognized as an effective ergonomic control to reduce physical risk factors, including forceful exertions and awkward postures that are common in manual timber felling. However, no evidence exists to date that offers industry perspectives, important facilitators, and potential barriers for adopting exoskeletons in the forest industry. Therefore, this study aimed to quantify biomechanical stress of timber fellers and assess forestry professionals' awareness and acceptance of exoskeletons. We measured working postures using wearable sensors during manual timber felling [N = 10] to suggest appropriate and beneficial exoskeleton types for timber fellers. We examined forestry professionals' awareness and acceptance of exoskeletons and identified perceived barriers and risks using a questionnaire [N = 22]. This study revealed that the forestry professionals expressed considerable interest and acceptance level in exoskeleton use. The important factors influencing the adoption of exoskeletons identified in this study were weight, comfort, simplicity/portability, practicality (usable and easy to use), and easy maintenance. The results also identified timber felling, cutting/sawing, and mechanic work as potential forestry tasks that may benefit most from the exoskeleton use. The wearable sensor data showed that manual timber felling posed substantial torso bending and upper-arm elevation. Given the awkward posture and high prevalence of musculoskeletal pain in the back and upper-arms, this study suggests that back-support and upper-limb support exoskeletons may be suitable to the forest industry. This study investigated the impact of ChatGPT's recommendation quality and ethical concerns on travelers' acceptance, satisfaction, and perceived trustworthiness. Results showed that when quality and ethical concerns were prominent, acceptance of and satisfaction with ChatGPT's recommendations decreased significantly, and the negative effects were mediated by perceived trustworthiness. This study also identified that message framing containing ChatGPT's errors, and the information types delivered by ChatGPT, acted as moderators of the positive effect of its recommendations. These findings underscore the significance of addressing ethical and quality concerns in using AI (Artificial intelligence)-powered chatbots, with implications for AI acceptance and satisfaction. A yeast strain, designated as JAF-11T, was isolated from flower of Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc. in Gwangyang, Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis showed that strain JAF-11T was closely related to Neodothiora populina CPC 39399T with 2.07 % sequence divergence (12 nucleotide substitutions and three gaps in 581 nucleotides) in the D1/D2 domain of the large subunit (LSU) rRNA gene, and Rhizosphaera macrospora CBS 208.79T with 4.66 % sequence divergence (25 nucleotide substitutions and five gaps in 535 nucleotides) in the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. Further analysis based on the concatenated sequences of the D1/D2 domain of the LSU rRNA gene and the ITS region confirmed that strain JAF-11T was well-separated from Neodothiora populina CPC 39399T. In addition to the phylogenetic differences, strain JAF-11T was distinguished from its closest species, Neodothiora populina CPC 39399T and Rhizosphaera macrospora CBS 208.79T belonging to the family Dothioraceae by its phenotypic characteristics, such as assimilation of carbon sources. This paper presents a progressive fatigue damage model to predict the damage progress and the fatigue life of composite laminates under cyclic loading. First, the maximum stress criterion was applied in the fiber direction for fiber failure (FF), and Puck's failure criteria were employed in the matrix direction in which the fracture plane is defined to determine the inter-fiber fracture (IFF). Next, material degradation rules consisting of strength and stiffness degradation were derived, and different degradation rules according to the presence of failure and failure mode were utilized for each material. The proposed model was implemented into the UMAT subroutine of ABAQUS for the finite element (FE) analysis with tension–tension cyclic loading. Finally, the progressive fatigue damage model was validated with flat-bar specimens with various lay-ups ([0]8, [90]8, [30]16, [02/902]s, [0/902]s, [0/904]s) and compared with the experimental data of static and fatigue tests. The fatigue life prediction was also conducted on the pin-loaded quasi-isotropic (QI) laminates. Two new neolignans, myrifralignans F–G (14 and 18), four new diarylnonanoid derivatives, myrifragranones A–D (21–24), and 18 known compounds were isolated and structurally elucidated from nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt.) seeds. The absolute configurations of these secondary metabolites were determined using the electronic circular dichroism technique. The inhibitory potential of these isolated compounds on soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) was investigated for the first time. Among them, malabaricones B and C (19 and 20) and four new compounds 21–24 displayed inhibitory activities against sEH, with IC50 values ranging from 14.24 to 46.35 µM. Additionally, the binding mechanism, key binding interactions, stability, and dynamic behaviour of the active compounds with the sEH enzyme were analysed using in silico molecular docking and dynamics simulations. This study examined the roles of normative and epistemic factors in influencing individuals' reluctance to be vaccinated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals' ethical orientations (IEO; teleology vs. deontology) were introduced as normative characteristics, while COVID-19 vaccine conspiracy beliefs and vaccine knowledge were addressed as issue-specific epistemic factors. We conducted two online surveys to investigate each of these three factors' influences on the level of Americans' reluctance to receive COVID-19 vaccines. Combinations of these factors that predict COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy levels were also explored to provide integrated perspectives in the specific vaccination context. Our findings demonstrated the positive association between IEO and reluctance to receive COVID-19 vaccines. Significant interactions between 1) COVID-19 vaccine conspiracy beliefs and IEO and 2) conspiracy beliefs and vaccine knowledge were also identified. The flight deck of aircraft carriers in operation is exposed to fire risks which must be mitigated by fire safety measures such as firefighting and suppression systems. To develop advanced fire safety measures, the quantitative risk assessment and management is essential, where fire hazards must be identified in a probabilistic manner considering operational conditions (e.g. sortie generation rates) and site-specific ocean environmental conditions (e.g. humidity, wave and wind profiles). In this paper, a set of realistic fire scenarios on the flight deck of a hypothetical short take-off/vertical landing (STOVL) type aircraft carrier are selected, which shall be used for the quantitative fire risk assessment and management. Potential fire hazards are formulated as a function of random parameters associated with operational and ocean environmental conditions, and probabilistic sampling technique is used to select hundred fire scenarios. Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) for electric vehicles require their room temperature capacitance to change ≤ ±15% at −55°C to 200°C. The dielectric constant (ε) of BaTiO3, a dielectric material widely used in MLCCs, drops at >125°C making its application to electric vehicles difficult. Here, we propose KCa2Nb3O10 (KCNO)-layered perovskite as a strong candidate for electric vehicle MLCCs as its ε does not change abruptly with temperature. The effect of sintering temperature on the temperature coefficient of capacitance (TCC) of KCNO is studied. The KCNO powder calcined at 900–1200°C is sintered at 1200°C–1300°C. Microstructure and temperature-dependent ε are determined by the sintering temperature, while the sintered density is related to the difference between the calcining and sintering temperatures. Only the room temperature ε of the samples sintered at 1300°C (except the one calcined at 900°C) varies ≤ ±15% at 25°C–200°C (ε ~250 at room temperature). The sample calcined at 1100°C and sintered at 1300°C has highly elongated grains and the highest activation energy. These factors are responsible for the TCC of the 1300°C sintered KCNO being ≤ ±15% at 25–200°C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines how a U.S. firm's involvement in offshore financial centers (OFCs), by setting up subsidiaries or affiliates in OFCs, is associated with audit fees. After controlling for tax aggressiveness, firm strategy, international operation, and other firm characteristics, we find that U.S. multinational enterprises (MNEs) with OFC operations pay higher audit fees than U.S. MNEs without OFC operations. In addition, a greater extent of OFC operations is further associated with higher audit fees. This result is robust to using different measures of OFC involvement and controlling for issues of self-selection, endogeneity, and joint determination effect of audit and non-audit fees. We also find that a higher level of OFC operations is associated with higher audit risk, as measured by internal control weaknesses and the probability of financial reporting-related litigation. Further analysis shows that the audit fee increasing effect of OFC involvement is unlikely to be driven by corporate tax planning strategy and tax rate differential between the U.S. and OFCs, but driven by the regulatory arbitrage opportunities and secrecy policies of OFCs. To evaluate the role of hyaluronic acid (HA) filler injection in the management of upper eyelid retraction (UER) in thyroid eye disease (TED). Retrospective interventional series of all patients with TED who had undergone HA injection, from February 2011 to April 2013 by a single surgeon (Y-DK) in a tertiary medical institution. Outcome measures: Mean margin reflex distance 1 (MRD1) pre- and post-filler. There was a total of 13 patients and 17 eyes included in the study. The injection dosage for 15 eyes was 0.5 ml, one patient had 0.35cc on the right eye and 0.65cc on the left eye. Mean MRD1 at presentation was 6.21 mm. There was a mean decrease in MRD1 of 2.01 mm (p <.001) at 1 month post filler, 2.06 mm (p <.001) at 6 months post filler and 2.61 mm (p <.001) at 1 year post filler. There was no correlation between pre-filler MRD1 and change in MRD1 at various time points post-filler, nor any correlation between pre-filler upper scleral show (USS) and change in USS post-filler. There was also no correlation found between clinical activity score (CAS) and change in MRD1, as well as duration of thyroid eye disease (TED) and change in MRD1. Complications included mild upper lid lumpiness on downgaze (n = 4, 23.5%) which improved but persisted with time. There were no untoward intravascular or vision-threatening complications. Transconjunctival HA injection is an effective treatment option for TED-related UER in both active and inactive TED patients in an East Asian population, with a potentially long-lasting effect. The chemical industry releases various types of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere, and the concentration of VOCs emitted from chimneys is regulated worldwide. However, some VOCs such as benzene are highly carcinogenic, while others such as ethylene and propylene may cause secondary air pollution, owing to their high ozone-generating ability. Accordingly, the US EPA(United State, Environment Protect Agency) introduced a fenceline monitoring system that regulates the concentration of VOCs at the boundary of a facility, away from the chimney source. This system was first introduced in the petroleum refining industry, which simultaneously emits benzene, affecting the local community because of its high carcinogenicity, and ethylene, propylene, xylene, and toluene, which have a high photochemical ozone creation potential (POCP). These emissions contribute to air pollution. In Korea, the concentration at the chimney is regulated; however, the concentration at the plant boundary is not considered. In accordance with the EPA regulations, Korea's petroleum refining industries were identified and the limitations of the Clean Air Conservation Act were studied. The average concentration of benzene at the research facility examined in this study was 8.53 µg/m3, which complied with the benzene action level of 9 µg/m3. However, this value was exceeded at some points along the fenceline, in proximity to the benzene-toluene-xylene (BTX) manufacturing process. The composition ratios of toluene and xylene were 27% and 16%, respectively, which were higher than those of ethylene or propylene. These results suggest that reduction measures in the BTX manufacturing process are necessary. This study shows that legal regulations should enforce reduction measures through continuous monitoring at the fenceline of petroleum refineries in Korea. Implications: Although volatile organic compounds(VOCs) are essential in various industrial sites, they adversely affect the health of people in the near community. Benzene is highly carcinogenic, so it is dangerous if exposed continuously. In addition, there are various types of VOCs, which combine with atmospheric ozone to generate smog. Globally, VOCs are managed as Total VOCs. However, through this study, VOCs have priority, and in the case of the petroleum refining industry, it is suggested that VOCs should be preemptively measured and analyzed to be regulated. Objectives: Commercial Dungeness crab fishermen's manual crab pot handling activities can be done in harsh outdoor working environments at sea and can pose well-known physical risk factors associated with musculoskeletal injury including forceful exertion, repetition and awkward posture. The nonfatal injury rate in this fishing fleet is 3.4 per 1,000 full-time equivalent workers. Two-thirds of self-reported injuries in the fleet were musculoskeletal sprains and strains. To date, no objective biomechanical assessment of musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) risk has been conducted due to the challenging work environment. Methods: The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of collecting objective biomechanical assessments (i.e., posture and repetition) using inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors placed on the arms and torso of professional deckhands (n = 7) while at sea, harvesting Dungeness crab. Based on the IMU-measured posture data, fishermen's anthropometry, and crab pot weights, biomechanical loading of the low back and both shoulders was estimated. Results: The IMU sensor data showed that commercial Dungeness crab fishing is highly repetitive and poses awkward postures in the shoulders and back. The estimated static low back compression, shear force, and flexion moment about the shoulders and low back (L5/S1) indicate potential injury risk associated with harvesting crab. Volatility forecasting is an important tool because it can be used in many different applications across the industry including risk management, derivatives trading and optimal portfolio selection. On the other hand, machine learning tends to be more accurate in making predictions when large volumes of data are involved in the system which the financial services industry tends to encounter. In this paper, we show that a fractional stochastic generalization of the elasticity of variance can contain latent features of the market elasticity of variance by using an artificial recurrent neural network architecture called LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) to forecast the elasticity of variance. It is shown that the forecast only with the elasticity of variance data has no statistically significant difference from forward filling, but information on the Hurst exponent can improve the power of forecasting the elasticity of variance. Monospecific assemblages of non-avian theropod tracks are relatively rare in the Cretaceous of Korea, where assemblages dominated by the tracks of diverse tetrapods (birds, sauropods, ornithopods, and pterosaurs) are well known and widely distributed in the Haman and Jindong formations (Hayang Group). To date, few high-density assemblages of theropod tracks have been documented. A Haman Formation site on Adu Island reveals a small high-density assemblage of Grallator tracks (~29 tracks/m2). The tracks, which indicate registration on a sandy substrate infused with microbial mat, are indistinguishable from Grallator tracks known from a few other Lower Cretaceous sites in China and east Asia. Early and Middle Jurassic Grallator-dominated assemblages are common in east Asia, and persist into the Late Jurassic- Early Cretaceous (Neocomian) transition in China, where they are typically only associated with sauropodomorph tracks. Post-Neocomian (Aptian-Albian) Cretaceous assemblages from Korea are much more diverse, and characterised by tracks of sauropod and ornithopod dinosaurs, non-avian and avian theropods (birds), pterosaurs and other tetrapods. Post-Neocomian assemblages dominated by theropod tracks, are rare and no large monospecific grallatorid assemblages are currently known. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we consider a mixed oligopoly market in which a public firm and private firms compete, in particular, in which private entrants are allowed to enter a monopoly market by a public incumbent who maximizes social welfare. It has been widely believed that the public firm has advantage over private firms because the former who maximizes social welfare can charge a lower price than the latter who maximizes its own profit. However, in a Hotelling model of product differentiation, we obtain the results that both the public firm and private firms charge the same price in equilibrium, and more importantly, that the equilibrium prices may rise as a result of competition, thereby lowering the consumer surplus, if the transportation cost is high enough. We also show that if a private firm enters the market by choosing its own degree of differentiation, it will prefer neither maximum differentiation nor minimum differentiation in the case that the public incumbent is myopic in the sense that it cannot anticipate entry as well as in the case that it is far-sighted enough to anticipate entry. This study investigates the effect of corporate derivatives usage on stock price crash risk. We test two competing hypotheses. Under the transparency hypothesis, derivatives usage reduces information opacity and lowers crash risk. Under the speculation hypothesis, derivatives usage exacerbates managerial short-termism and increases crash risk. We find evidence supporting the transparency hypothesis. This result is robust to sensitivity checks including a two-stage treatment model, difference-in-differences test, and subsample analysis. We further show that curbing bad news hoarding, curtailing overinvestment, and increasing breadth of ownership are potential channels through which derivatives usage mitigates crash risk. The primary aim of this laboratory-based human subject study was to evaluate the biomechanical loading associated with mining vehicles' multi-axial whole body vibration (WBV) by comparing joint torque and muscle activity in the neck and low back during three vibration conditions: mining vehicles' multi-axial, on-road vehicles' vertical-dominant, and no vibration. Moreover, the secondary aim was to determine the efficacy of a vertical passive air suspension and a prototype multi-axial active suspension seat in reducing WBV exposures and associated biomechanical loading measures. The peak joint torque and muscle activity in the neck and low back were higher when exposed to multi-axial vibration compared to the vertical-dominant or no vibration condition. When comparing the two suspension seats, there were limited differences in WBV, joint torque, and muscle activity. These results indicate that there is a need to develop more effective engineering controls to lower exposures to multi-axial WBV and related biomechanical loading. Practitioner Summary: This study found that mining vehicles' multi-axial WBV can increase biomechanical loading in the neck and back more so than on-road vehicles' vertical-dominant WBV. We investigate whether and how managerial risk-tolerance at the individual level affects corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance at company level. We use CEO aviation training as an observable ex-ante measure of CEO risk-tolerance. Contrary to a commonly held view, we show that firms led by CEOs with pilot status exhibit lower CSR performance. This finding holds even after controlling for CEO pay–performance incentives, military experience, overconfidence and other CEO and firm characteristics that prior studies document as affecting CSR performance. In further cross-sectional tests, we show that when a firm is R&D intensive, belongs to a high-tech industry, or faces fiercer product market competition, the negative effect of CEO risk-tolerance on CSR performance is more pronounced, suggesting that CSR may act as an insurance or risk-hedging tool. In the present study, dermal and inhalation exposure of agricultural workers to insecticide, flubendiamide were determined during pesticide mixing/loading, and hand-held sprayer application in Kimchi cabbage fields, and the potential health risk was assessed. Dermal exposure amount during mixing/loading was 0.8 mg, whereas there was no inhalation exposure (0.0 µg) during similar procedures. Among several different body parts, the hands were the most prominent exposure area (84.5%), followed by the chest and stomach (10.1%). The protective role of PPE (personal protective equipment) during application was determined by comparative experiments with- and without-PPE. The dermal and inhalation exposure with PPE was 3.7 mg and 12.0 µg, respectively. The Forearms (29.6%) and pelvis (18.7%) showed the highest pesticide exposure, followed by the chest and stomach (18.4%). However, the exposure amount of without-PPE was 47.7 mg, and 22.9 µg, respectively, where shins were the most prominent exposure area (83.0%). For the risk assessment of the mixing/loading and application, the AOEL (acceptable operator exposure level) of flubendiamide was used as the reference dose to calculate that the RI (risk index) was much lower than 1 (mixing/loading:0.0, application with PPE:0.2), indicating that agricultural workers are at low risk of exposure to flubendiamide. Will experience with direct democracy influence men's and women's political beliefs differently? Despite the closed gender gap in voter turnout, women remain less interested in politics and participate less frequently in non-voting activities than men. Scholars find women's lower sense of internal political efficacy as the origins of these gender gaps. In this paper, I examine whether the experience of direct participation in political decision-making alters women's feelings of internal political efficacy differently from it does men's. Building on the insights from the literature on the gendered psychological traits, I theorize that voting in referendums will promote men's internal political efficacy but not women's, because of women's greater susceptibility to the psychological costs of participation in referendums. Using an original panel survey conducted shortly before and after the 2018 abortion referendum in Ireland, I demonstrate the presence of the gendered effect in voting in referendums: While men reported increased internal political efficacy after voting in the referendum, women did not experience any meaningful change, even though the issue magnified women's psychological engagement with the vote. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of Ganilever pre-filled syringe (PFS), a newly developed ganirelix acetate, for the inhibition of premature luteinising hormone (LH) surge in in vitro fertilisation (IVF). A prospective randomised controlled study was conducted (NCT03051087). A total of 236 women (Ganilever group: 114, Orgalutran group: 122) were finally analysed. The patients with LH of >10 mIU/mL on the day of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) injection were 0 (0.0%) and 3 (2.5%) in the Ganilever and Orgalutran groups, respectively (p= .25). The number of retrieved oocytes from two groups did not show any significant difference (12.0 ± 6.4 vs. 11.8 ± 6.3, p= .73). Furthermore, the two groups did not show significant differences in the number of good-quality oocytes and embryo, and the rate of fertilisation. Similar safety profiles were also observed. In conclusion, Ganilever PFS showed comparable IVF outcomes and safety profile in IVF, as compared to the Orgalutran. Impact StatementWhat is already known on this subject? Camellia sinensis (tea) seeds have been identified as potential sources of nutraceutical compounds. In this study, caffeine and theaflavanoside IV were annotated as the most abundant phytochemicals in the seed shells of C. sinensis. Both compound displayed potent inhibitions against protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) with IC50 values of 37.9 ± 3.5 and 8.7 ± 1.1 µM, respectively. In the kinetic study, caffeine inhibited PTP1B with mixed type I mode, which prefers to bind to free enzyme. Theaflavanoside IV showed competitive and reversible simple slow-binding inhibition [k3 = 0.1 µM−1·min−1, k4 = 0.002 min−1, Kiapp = 0.0002 µM]. This is the first report on PTP1B-inhibitory activity of these compounds and their action mechanisms. These results suggest their potential in the development of antidiabetic agents. This study proposes and verifies the slow city tourism evaluation index (SCTEI). SCTEI offers scholars and practitioners the capacity to assess the attractiveness and/or performance of slow cities in the context of sustainable tourism. The study participants consisted of a panel of slow city and sustainable development experts. These professionals were engaged in a Delphi-analytic hierarchy process for the purposes of scale development and verification. Four rounds of surveying were conducted and generated a multi-dimensional structure, consisting of seven domains, 18 subdomains, and 60 items. Locality, conviviality, and education were outstanding amongst the seven domains. The newly developed SCTEI provides practical guidelines for ascertaining a slow city's sustainable tourism performance and offers a standardized instrument for comparison and benchmarking purposes. Physical activity is essential for children's current and future health, but most do not get their recommended daily 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity. Schools are an ideal environment for physical activity since students spend most of their waking hours at school. In this paper, we inquire into a sedentary school environment and its collateral impact on student learning in light of the school experience of Hannah. Grounded in Merleau-Ponty's theory of body and embodiment and Dewey's theory of experience in education, the purpose of this narrative inquiry is to challenge an increasingly sedentary environment that undermines the role of body, hence providing a mis-educative experience. In so doing, we intend to raise awareness of the collateral impact of sedentary education on students and rethink the aims of education for the 21st century to foster the child as a whole embodied being. We suggest three aims of education: first, health as the foundation to develop the whole child; second, adding the fifth R, Rhythm, to Doll's four R's of richness, recursion, relation, and rigor; and finally, understanding what it means to be physically literate. The multifaceted roles of public relations are not well-understood in strategic management. Thus, this study reviews strategic management literature and presents empirical evidence on the relevance of public relations to strategic management. Using data collected from public relations practitioners and organizational leaders in the Generally Accepted Practice (GAP) survey conducted by the University of Southern California (USC) and the Excellence Study commissioned by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Research Foundation, the dynamics between the public relations function and organizational outcomes (i.e., corporate strategic orientation and corporate legitimacy performance) are explored. The findings present new empirical evidence of the contributions that public relations makes to strategic management (i.e., its value), the conditions under which public relations makes more contributions to strategic management (i.e., its empowerment) and the differences between marketing-dominant and public relations-independent communication departments in terms of their focus and effects on organizational outcomes (i.e., its structure). Black garlic (BG) is a newly explored food stuff obtained via fermentation of raw, healthy garlic, especially in Asian countries. Interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) are the pacemaker cells of gastrointestinal (GI) motility. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of BG extract on the pacemaker potentials of the ICC in the small intestines of mice and the possibility of controlling GI motility. The antioxidant activity of BG extract was also investigated. The whole-cell electrophysiological method was used to measure pacemaker potentials of the ICC in vitro, whereas GI motility was measured using the intestinal transit rate (ITR) in vivo. BG extract depolarized the pacemaker potentials of the ICC. Y25130 and RS39604 5-HT receptor antagonists could not inhibit the effect of BG extract on the pacemaker potentials of the ICC, whereas the 5-HT receptor antagonist SB269970 could. Pre-treatment with external Na+ (5 mM) or Ca2+-free solution inhibited the BG extract-induced depolarization of the ICC. With SB203580, PD98059, or c-jun NH2-terminal kinase II inhibitor pre-treatment, BG extract did not induce pacemaker potential depolarization. Moreover, the ITR values were increased by BG extract. Elevation of the ITR due to BG extract was related with increased protein expression of the 5-HT7 receptors. In addition, BG extract showed antioxidant activity. Collectively, these results highlight the ability of BG extract to regulate GI motility and the possibility of using it to develop GI motility modulators in the future. Vehicles to everything (V2X) communication includes a variety of types, so wide-angle scanning is integral. For wide-angle scanning, the half power beam width (HPBW) of a single antenna must be wide. Moreover, the gain, low cross-polarization level, and impedance bandwidth are essential factors in high communication performance. In this paper, a wide-angle scanning phased-array system using an arc-shorted half-elliptic patch antenna at 5.8 GHz is presented. The design of both a single antenna and the entire phased-array system are covered, and to verify the design method, the proposed single antenna and phased array system were fabricated. The proposed antenna had 162 ∘ HPBW in the E-plane and 8.63 dBi of peak gain. Its fractional bandwidth was 5%, and the level of cross-polarization was −16.8 dBi. In this letter, a 4 × 6 microstrip patch array antenna with a low sidelobe level (SLL) for dual linearly polarized synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is proposed. The low SLL in wide-band is obtained by implementing the Chevyshev taper distribution. An optimal approach to design an unequal-power symmetric microstrip divider for dual-polarization is employed in the same layer with high isolation between the polarizations. The proposed antenna consists of squared patches excited by aperture coupled slots. With the analysis of resolution, swath, and noise equivalent sigma zero (NESZ) of the SAR system, we selected the antenna parameters such as bandwidth, beamwidth, gain, and SLL. The proposed antenna has a more than 10 % bandwidth and peak gains of 18.2 dBi and 18.3 dBi in V and H-polarization, respectively. Fiber metal laminate constants of the metallic sheet and the fiber-reinforced composite sheet. FMLs can undergo delamination under transverse loads. Therefore, their nominal stress and energy release rate (ERR) should be experimentally derived to quantitatively evaluate their adhesive properties. However, the adhesive properties obtained experimentally contain some unavoidable errors. In this study, we propose an inverse analysis method to more accurately predict the mode II nominal stress and the ERR of a polypropylene film. First, an end-notched flexure test was conducted to obtain the mode II ERR, and a cohesive zone model was proposed to predict the delamination of the specimens. Next, we proposed the hybrid Levenberg–Marquardt methods to predict the mode II nominal stress and the ERR of the PP film. We investigated the effects of atherosclerosis in the carotid region on cerebral haemodynamics. A total of 15 stenosis cases following NASCET criteria were modelled using patient-specific medical image data and an open-source package, SimVascular. The formulation adopted the stabilised Petrov–Galerkin scheme with Newtonian and incompressible assumptions. The boundary conditions employed pulsatile inflow and three-element lumped Windkessel outlet conditions with a rigid wall assumption. We present transitions in the represented CoW during stenosis progression using three-dimensional aortic-cerebral vasculature for the first time. This was driven by the conserved total cerebral blood flow to 50% carotid stenosis (CS) (P-value, P > 0.05), which deteriorated during subsequent stages of CS (P < 0.01), and the effective collateral capability of the communicating arteries (CoAs) activated from a degree of 75% and above (P < 0.0001). The prevalence of 'complete' CoW peaked at 50% CS and then declined. Despite the collateral flow, the ipsilateral hemispheric perfusion was moderately reduced (P < 0.01), and the contralateral perfusion was conserved (P > 0.05), revealing the ineffectiveness of collateral capability of CoW at the extreme stages of CS. We identified bulk cerebral auto-regulation effects of the conventional Windkessel model, demonstrating accurate flow reduction in the stenosed artery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Visual images in introductory textbooks play an important role in constructing the concept of race for students entering the field of criminal justice/criminology. Prior studies on race depictions in criminal justice/criminology textbooks have focused on individual images depicting persons as criminal justice personnel, relating to type of crime or criminal justice context, and as victim. By analyzing a total of 2,286 individuals in 1,943 images from 23 textbooks this study expands on this approach by also differentiating exclusive portrayals from social compositions (two or more individuals), analyzing placement of image within substantive area of the text, and by examining interactive depictions (victim/criminal, professional/criminal, and victim/professional) according to race. Purpose: To evaluate the findings of postnatal ophthalmological examinations in patients diagnosed with cataracts by prenatal fetal sonography.Methods: We retrospectively identified patients diagnosed with fetal cataract without other ocular abnormalities using antenatal ultrasound. We analyzed data including the patients' family history, the presence of metabolic or systemic disease-associated cataracts, gestational age at diagnosis, fetal sonography reports, and the results of postnatal ophthalmological examinations.Results: In total, eight patients were diagnosed with cataracts by prenatal fetal ultrasonography, and all these patients showed mild to severe degrees of cataract after birth. Patients showed hyperechoic opacity of the lens in the available images. The mean gestational age at diagnosis was 26 ± 3 weeks (range, 22-28 weeks), and three patients (37.5%) had a family history of congenital cataract. All patients, except one patient who had patent ductus arteriosus, showed no systemic abnormalities associated with cataracts on postnatal evaluation. Six (75.0%) were diagnosed with bilateral cataracts after birth, and of these, two patients had been diagnosed with unilateral left cataract prenatally. Postnatal ophthalmological examination revealed that all patients showed opacities involving the nucleus of the lens and three patients (37.5%) had associated abnormalities of microcornea or microphthalmia, which were not diagnosed antenatally.Conclusion: In all our subjects, the lens opacities on prenatal fetal sonography were diagnosed postnatally as cataracts involving the nucleus. A careful postnatal examination is essential to detect the presence of associated ocular abnormalities such as microcornea and/or microphthalmia and cataract in the contralateral eye in patients with congenital cataract. This paper proposes a fast inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) motion compensation (MOCOM) method. The various motion compensation methods using minimum entropy algorithm such as stage-by-stage approaching (SSA) algorithm were reported recently. However, the computational efficiency and the clearance of the ISAR image were hard to achieve simultaneously. In particular, as the number of the local minima in the entropy curve increases, the processing time takes longer to find the global minimum. In this paper, we propose a new MOCOM algorithm based on an improved SSA algorithm to reduce the processing time. The proposed algorithm uses the envelope value as the fitness function instead of the entropy value, so the number of the local minima in the entropy curve is reduced. Therefore, the entropy curve becomes simple and the required number of the phase error samples is reduced. In the simulation, the processing time is improved by 88.8% than the conventional SSA algorithm. Also, in the experiment, the processing time is improved by 87.9% ∼ 89.2%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, the arc array for squint-less near-field focusing is used, theoretically analyzed, and verified. The arc array is designed to overcome the squint phenomenon in the near-field and transfers the maximum power at a focused distance. The implemented transmitter is composed of 16 × 1 vivaldi antennas with a 0.7 λ spacing and operates at a frequency of 5.8 GHz. In addition, the design method of the arc array is proposed, considering the focused distances. In the experiments, the bending degree of the arc array is 4.14 ∘ when the focused distance is 0.5 m. At a fractional bandwidth of 27.5%, the focus position is shifted 32%. On the other hand, in the arc array, the focus position is not shifted. Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is the failure of the fetus toachieve its genetically determined growth potential, which increasesrisks for a variety of genetic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease, and stroke, during the lifetime. The dysregulation of DNA methylationis known to interact with environmental fluctuations, affect gene expressions comprehensively, and be fatal to fetus development in specific cases. Therefore, we set out to find out epigenetic and transcriptomic alterations associated with FGR development. We found a set of differentially expressed genes associated with differentially methylated regions in placentae and cord blood samples. Using dimensional reduction analysis, the expression and methylation variables of the epigenetically altered genes classified the FGR samples from the controls. These genes were also enriched in the biological pathways such as metabolism and developmental processes related to FGR. Furthermore, three genes of INS, MEG3, and ZFP36L2 are implicated in epigenetic imprinting, which has been associated with FGR. These results strongly suggest that DNA methylation is highly dysregulated during FGR development, and abnormal DNA methylation patterns are likely to alter gene expression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study tested the manner in which attitude toward an object of rumor affects people's epistemic motivation to solve a problem and to share a rumor, specifically on social media, using two rumors regarding food safety issues including McDonald's and genetically modified food. An online survey administered to 184 undergraduate students who use Twitter showed that negative attitudes increased the likelihood of rumor sharing, mediated by issue-related epistemic motivation. Recent ground-breaking work shows that stochastic volatility models driven by fractional Brownian motion with short memory provide better calibration of the volatility surface and more robust estimation of historical volatility. Based on the fractional nature of the volatility correlation, we choose two types of stochastic-local volatility built on the constant elasticity of variance model to calculate European option prices. Accurate prediction of fall likelihood is advantageous for instituting fall prevention program in rehabilitation facilities. This study was designed to determine the clinical measures, which can predict the risk of fall events in a rehabilitation hospital. Medical records of 166 patients (114 males and 52 females) who were hospitalized in an adult inpatient unit of a rehabilitation hospital were retrospectively analyzed for this study. As predictor variables for assessing fall risk, demographic data and the following measurements were selectively collected from patient's medical records: Tinetti Performance-Oriented Mobility Assessment-Ambulation (POMA-G), Timed Up and Go test (TUG), 10 m walk test, 2 min walk test, Korean version Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE), Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index (KMBI), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Global Deterioration Scale (GDS), and Morse Fall Scale (Morse FS). The Morse FS, TUG, and age were found to be risk factors for the classification of faller and non-faller groups. This study suggests Morse FS, TUG, and age in the routine initial assessment upon admission in a rehabilitation setting, as key variables for screening the risk of fall. Ikonnikovia kaufmanniana is an endemic plant of Kazakhstan of which phytochemical analysis has not been reported. The present study found out that this species enriched with antioxidant chemicals. Isolation and structural identification processes reveal twelve phenolic compounds (1–12) having dihydroflavanonol, flavonol, isoflavone and flavanol skeletons. The annotation of individual components in the extract was carried out by LC-ESI-MS/MS to represent a chemotaxonomic marker of the target plant. The antioxidant activities of all compounds were screened using three different radical sources (DPPH, ORAC, and hydroxyl radicals). Most compounds (1–11) had significant antioxidant activity against three radical sources, and their efficacies were found to differ by their functionality and skeleton. The potential of the isolated compounds in preventing oxidative damage of DNA was evaluated with pBR322 plasmid DNA.
