Mn2O3particles of nano scale were fabricated using deep eutectic solvent of choline chloride-ethylene glycol. Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) is a new family of ionic fluids. Mn2O3was fabricated by varying the amount of water in DES. With variation in amount of water, size and shape of particles also varied. Mn2O3prepared in absence of water is of orthorhombic crystal system and those prepared in presence of water are of tetrahedral crystal system. In this paper, a facile hydrothermal synthesis of precursor MnO2and subsequent high-temperature calcination has been used to prepare sea-urchin-like Mn2O3.The influences of calcination temperatures on the structures and electrochemical performances of Mn2O3are clearly studied. The results show that the elevated temperature helps to improve the crystallinity and particle size, the 700°C sample shows an optimal electrochemical performance. Therein, a high discharge capacity of 765.7 mAh g− 1can be retained after 50 cycles at 200 mA g− 1, and a value of 465.8 mAh g− 1can be kept at 800 mA g− 1.More importantly, a surprised calcination temperature determines phenomenon that discharges capacity increase upon cycles can be observed, which may be useful for the design and nanostructured of Mn-based oxides as lithium-ion battery anodes. This paper presents the adsorption and thermal decomposition mechanism of formic acid on an H-birnessite sample. Changes in the surface and structure were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, N2gas adsorption–desorption, and thermal analysis techniques. The acid sites of H-birnessite were investigated by infrared and thermal analysis using pyridine as a molecular probe. Decomposition of formic acid started on H-birnessite at 120°C and was complete at 400°C. Infrared spectra revealed that the molecularly adsorbed formic acid species were transformed to a formate species, and the formate species were transformed to CO. The most stable adsorption structure for formic acid was found as a molecular monodentate configuration. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
