Grapes are sprayed with an array of agro-chemicals to eliminate the danger of damaging pests that demands a strategic post-harvest storage. Modified atmospheric storage (MAS) using treatments T0 at 10 °C and 'T0 at 20 °C, both with 0 % carbon dioxide while T1 at 10 °C and T2 at 20 °C, both with 10% carbon dioxide, were applied for 3 doses (recommended dose, double than recommended and triple dose) of pesticides on two varieties of grapes under field conditions. Samples were taken at 0th day, 3rd day, 7th day, 15th day, 20th day, 25thday, 30th day and 33rd day intervals from MAS and were extracted using acetonitrile (ACN) and cleaned up by florisil adsorbent column. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), equipped with diode array detector, ODS-Hypersil C-18 column was used to separate and quantify the pesticides by employing ACN-MeOH mobile phase with a flow rate of 1 mL min−1 in gradient mode. Mathematical model (Yt = Y0e−kt) was applied on average of all doses, which fitted best to the first order kinetics. Half-lives (HLs-50% of residues decayed) and DT90 (90% of residues decayed) values were also calculated. Regarding HLs of acetamiprid, best treatments were T1 and T2 where T1 (7.51) and T2 (4.02) presented good decay at low temperature when CO2 was used in combination and also reported good shelf stability of grapes. Likewise, the trend was witnessed from cymoxanil and difenconazole pesticides and grape varieties. Moreover, black grape variety indicated more degradation of residues as compared to perlette, which could be attributed to its acidity, composition and anatomical structure. The adoption of sustainable agricultural practices at the farm level is essential for lowering greenhouse gas emissions and creating sustainable food systems. This study explored the nexus of women’s empowerment in agriculture and the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices in Pakistan. A face-to-face survey using multistage simple random and purposive sampling techniques was used to collect the data from 384 Pakistani women farmers. A partial least-squares structural equation model was used to analyze the data. The findings indicated that empowering women in agricultural asset control (β = 0.38, p < 0.01) positively influences the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices on farms. Similarly, women’s empowerment in decision-making (β = 0.41, p < 0.01) also significantly affects the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. Moreover, women’s empowerment in legal rights (β = 0.14, p < 0.01), productivity and skills (β = 0.15, p < 0.01), and information and communication technology (β = 0.19, p = 0.02) significantly increases farm-level adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. Abstract The prime aim of this effort is to investigate the steady, incompressible flow of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) Prandtl Eyring fuzzy hybrid ( Al 2 O 3 +Cu/SA ) nanofluid through a wedge surface when viscous dissipation, nonlinear thermal radiation, and fuzzy volume fraction are presented. The flow phenomena of a hybrid nanofluid are investigated for the two-dimensional fluid flow with the inclusion of copper ( Cu ) and alumina ( Al 2 O 3 ) particles added into sodium alginate (SA). By employing a dimensionless similarity transformation, the presented model’s nonlinear governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are redefined into a set of dimensionless nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs), which are then solved utilizing numerical methods named built-in MATAB BVP4C (Finite Difference Method). Also, nanoparticle volume fractions are said to be triangular fuzzy numbers (TFN). σ -cut has control over the TFNs and triangular membership function. The importance of physical factors is emphasized through tables and graphs. The findings of the present investigation indicate that compared to Prandtl Eyring fluid, hybrid nanofluid transmits heat at a faster rate. Thermal distribution is improved by the solid volume fraction percentage. As thermal radiation and second fluid parameter levels rise, heat transfer rate also accelerated. Nanofluids are advanced class of heat transfer fluids that are in trend due to their high thermophysical properties over the past two decades. The molecular graph theory is one of the essential tools for developing and constructing molecular structure. In particular, using topological invariant, which is a numerical descriptor of molecular graph, has become widespread in predicting physical properties. Topological indices provide knowledge about the overall form of molecular graphs, particularly various degree-based topological indices. This research paper focuses on the first and second Zagreb index and their coindices for the line graph of a transition metal-organic network. The network, denoted by L (TM − TCNB) , comprises the transition metals Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu or Zn, and the TCNB ligand. The line graph of a network is a graph that represents the connections between the edges of the original network. The Zagreb indices are widely used to describe the molecular graph's shape and structure. The paper highlights the importance of these indices in modelling the chemical properties of the transition metal-organic network. The study results show that the Zagreb indices and their coindices strongly correlate with several physical characteristics, for instance the boiling points, melting points, and density of the network. Non-thermal processing has been developed to increase the quality and storage life of fruit juices in response to consumer desire. Ozonation is a recently developed method that generates volatile oxygen atoms that can eliminate a broad spectrum of microbes and extend the shelf stability of food products. The present research was intended to investigate the ozone processing on the physicochemical characteristics, microbiological quality, sensory attributes, and antioxidant potential of Kinnow juice. In this study, Kinnow juice was processed to 150 mg/h of ozone gas at a constant concentration for 5, 10, and 15 min. The sample was then taken in a plastic container and stored at 35°C ± 2 for three months. The results revealed that ozone processing had a significant (p˂0.05) effect on the total phenolics (TP) contents, total flavonoids (TF) contents, total soluble solids (TSS), acidity, total antioxidant activity (TAA) and DDPH radical scavenging activity of Kinnow juice. In addition, the ozonation application also significantly (p˂0.05) decreased the population of the microbes when the ozone time was increased from 5–15 min. Among the treatments, it was observed that T3 had the highest TSS, acidity, TF contents, TAA, and DDPH radical scavenging activity values and the lowest mold and plate counts. Regarding sensory qualities, T0+ showed the highest sensory score during storage. Thus, it may be concluded from the findings of our study that ozone application improved the quality of Kinnow juice by increasing TSS, phytochemicals and decreasing the microbial population, thereby prolonging their shelf life. Plums are the abundant sources of predominant antioxidants and phenolic compounds such as caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, crypto-chlorogenic acid, and neo-chlorogenic acid. These antioxidants and bioactive compounds are effective in the treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal diseases, bone heath, and cardiovascular diseases and in maintaining the blood glucose level. Plums helps in the heart diseases prevention, as it is low in fat content and high in dietary fiber. It is also effective in the treatment of lung and oral cancer. The consumption of plums boosts human health and prevents many diseases. The review discusses the importance, production, different varieties of plums along with its nutritional profile, availability of bioactive compounds, phytochemical composition, and antioxidants mainly phenolic and flavonoid compounds. Lactoferrin is the part of whey proteins, which does not become the part of curd and is lost in the whey. The objective of the current investigation was to develop lactoferrin-supplemented cheddar cheese. Cheddar cheese was supplemented with lactoferrin at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 0 mg/100 g concentrations (T1, T2, T3, T4, and control) and matured for 90 days. The supplementation of lactoferrin at all four concentrations did not affect the compositional attributes of cheddar cheese. In mature cheddar cheese, values of log-colony forming units in T1, T2, T3, T4, and control per mL were 7.82, 7.77, 6.51, 6.21, and 7.95, respectively. Lactoferrin contents of T1, T2, T3, T4, and control were 4.98, 9.89, 14.91, 19.88, and 0.11 mg/100 g cheese. In vitro total antioxidant capacity of mature T1, T2, T3, T4, and control were 32.47%, 47.68%, 65.37%, 78.82%, and 45.79%. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis revealed that concentrations of citric acid, lactic acid, acetic acid, and propionic acid in mature T4 were 2389, 16,468, 126, and 141 mg/kg. Analysis of cheese samples on gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) showed that fatty acids composition was not influenced by the supplementation of lactoferrin. Peroxide value of matured T1, T2, T3, T4, and control was 0.31, 0.30, 0.28, 0.35, and 0.28 (meqO2/kg) with no variation in color, flavor and texture score. Consumer demand for higher-quality fruit juices has resulted in the development of non-thermal processing to extend the shelf life of fruit juices. Ozonation is a novel technique, involving the production of volatile oxygen atoms capable of destroying an extensive range of microorganisms and lengthening the shelf stability of fruit juices. The purpose of this research was to examine the influence of ozonation on the physicochemical, bioactive components, and microbial properties of kinnow juice. Kinnow juice was exposed to ozone gas with fixed concentration 150 mg/h for 5, 10, and 15 minutes. Then, kinnow juice was filled in a plastic bottle and kept at 4 ± 2°C for 3 months. The mentioned parameters were examined after 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days. It was found that ozonation had shown a significant influence on nutritional characteristics of kinnow juice as it increased (p ≤.05) the acidity, total soluble content, total phenolics content, flavonoids content, and antioxidant potential of kinnow juice and diminished the microbial activity, increasing ozone time from 5 to 15 minutes. OZ-15 (15 minutes of ozonation) showed the maximum value of total soluble content (14.70 ± 0.10 °Brix), titrable acidity (0.179 ± 0.10%), total flavonoid content (244.44 ± 3.70 mg equivalent of catechin/100 mL), and total antioxidant activity (305.95 ± 2.70 µg/g equivalent of ascorbic acid of juice), but it presented the least total mold counts (1.49 ± 0.02 colony forming unit/mL) and plate counts (1.53 ± 0.03 colony forming unit/mL). It was suggested that the ozonation could be used as an alternative to the traditional pasteurization and chemical preservatives on kinnow juice to retain quality characteristics. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of ultrasound on the functional properties of citrus juices. Citrus fruits and juices were analyzed for physico-chemical properties. The 'Pamelo' excelled in terms of average fruit weight (451.83 ± 7.1 g), fruit volume (543.33 ± 9.1 cm3) and rag percentage (68.64 ± 1.1%). 'Valencia late' (48.67 ± 0.3%), 'Flame' (48.38 ± 1.3%) and 'Kinnow' (35.95 ± 4.9%) were good in juice %. The juice was subjected to sonication treatment at 15°C for 5 min keeping pulse duration 5 s on and 5 s off (70% amplitude level and 20 kHz frequency). Total phenol, flavonoids, free radical scavenging activity, antioxidant capacity, and reducing power increased in fruit juices as a result of sonication. The total phenolic contents in the juices of all citrus cultivars ranged from 223.49 ± 4.5 to 590.47 ± 5.5 µg gallic acid equivalent/g and increased from 315.18 ± 6.1 to 645.44 ± 7.1 µg GAE/g after ultrasonic processing. The DPPH values of juices of all citrus cultivars ranged from 791.54 to 1251.93 µmol equivalent of trolox/mL and increased from 1001.54 to 1336.77 µmol equivalent of trolox/mL after applying ultrasound. Nutritionists recommend to consume 3 g Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) to prevent cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and other lifestyle-related disorders. To fulfill the daily requirements of CLA, large proportions of dairy and meat products have to be included in the dietary plan that may have negative impacts such as excessive intake of fat, cholesterol, and lactose. Current investigation was aimed to determine the effect of safflower oil derived CLA on fatty acids composition, lipolysis and sensory properties of cheddar cheese. Safflower oil-derived conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) was added to cheddar cheese at four levels i.e. 1%, 2%, 3% and 4% concentrations (T1, T2, T3 & T4), cheese without CLA supplement was used as control, vacuum packaged samples were ripened at 6–8°C for 90 days. Analysis of CLA supplement revealed that concentrations of ∆9c,11 t-18:2, ∆10 t,12c-18:2, ∆9c,11c-18:2, ∆9 t, 11c-18:2 were 52.16, 44.37, 0.27 and 0.55 mg/100 g. In control, concentrations of ∆9c,11 t-18:2 and ∆10 t,12c-18:2 was 0.24% and 0.07% with a total CLA content of 0.31%. In T3, concentrations of ∆9c,11 t-18:2, ∆10 t,12c-18:2, ∆9c,11c-18:2 and ∆9 t, 11c-18:2 were 1.12, 3.82, 1.63, 2.77 (total CLA 8.34mg100g). In T4, concentrations of ∆9c,11 t-18:2, ∆10 t,12c-18:2, ∆9c,11c-18:2 and ∆9 t, 11c-18:2, were 1.47, 3.50, 3.25 and 3.44% (total CLA 11.67 mg/100 g). Supplementation of cheddar cheese at all four levels significantly increased the concentrations of lactic acid, citric acid, propionic and acetic acids. After 90 days of ripening, free fatty acids in control, T1, T2, T3 and T4 were 0.14, 0.19, 0.23, 0.29 and 0.37% with no difference in composition and sensory properties. Cheddar cheese is a source of a variety of biologically active peptides and free amino acids (FAAs), which contribute to the cheese aroma, flavors, and textures. The FAA liberation and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition potential of cheddar cheese made from cow and buffalo milk before and after in vitro digestion by gastric and duodenal enzymes with ripening were investigated. The cheese samples were stored under refrigeration condition (4°C) for ripening for 3, 6, and 9 months. The possible differences existing in the level of FAAs were explored before and after in vitro digestion of ripened cheddar cheese made from cow and buffalo milk. The lower level of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition value 62.4 ± 1.04% was observed in gastric digested cheese samples after 9 months of ripening, while the highest angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition value 93.1 ± 1.29% was observed in duodenal digested cheese samples after 6 months of ripening. This study showed that before and after in vitro digestion, highest angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitory potential of cheddar cheese was observed between 6 and 9 months of ripening. In 9-month ripened cheese, a significant increase in the contents of glutamic, glutamine, valine, leucine, and lysine was observed after duodenal digestion in case of both cow and buffalo milk Cheddar cheeses. The present study focused on evaluating the influence of ultrasonic-assisted pasteurization (UAP) on the quality and shelf stability of jambul squash. Squash was analyzed for physicochemical characteristics during a storage period of 4 months. There was a significant effect (p <.05) of storage period on the acidity, DPPH radical scavenging activity, and flavonoids of jambul squash with a significant increase in acidity and DPPH radical scavenging activity and decrease in flavonoids with the corresponding increases in sonication time and pasteurization temperature during storage. The microbial content of jambul squash during storage remained lower than untreated samples. Microstructure evaluation of jambul squash showed de-shaped middle lamella and cell wall after UAP treatment. The slug flow in a superhydrophobic microchannel with a T-junction was studied computationally. The continuous phase passed through the main channel while the dispersed phase1 through the side channel. The volume of fluid (VOF) was employed to track the interface to study the dynamics of slug flow. First, a mesh independence study was carried out to select the optimum mesh by comparison of CFD results with experimental data. The developed model of microchannel was used to study slug flow heat transfer enhancement for micro cooling of electronic chips. The constant heat flux was applied on the walls of the microchannels and the axial wall temperature profile was noted. Upon quantification of heat transfer augmentation in terms of wall temperature reduction, Nusselt number and heat transfer coefficient enhancement, it was noted that slug flow performed much better vis-à-vis single-phase flows at similar conditions. The existing studies on innovation extensively focused on such economic factors as foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows, trade openness, and R&D investments. Contrastingly, non-economic factors have received less research attention in the innovation literature. Lousy governance may lead to political and institutional ineffectiveness. Widespread corruption weakens the accountability practices and rule of law and may consequently hamper innovation. Similarly, terrorism deters flows of investment, increases unproductive costs, causes brain drains, decreases R&D investment and entrepreneurial activities and finally inhibits rates of innovation. This study empirically investigates the impacts of governance structure, terrorism, FDI inflows, and trade openness upon innovation in a laggard country: Pakistan. The findings via the ARDL co-integration approach show that lousy governance, terrorism and FDI inflows have adverse impacts on innovation. Common bean is an important legume crop having high quality protein, micronutrients, vitamins and antioxidants, which makes it a "grain of hope" for poor communities. Hence, a good number of breeding activities have been performed on the improvement of various key traits for years. However, recent advancements in molecular markers, sequencing technologies and the completion of the common bean genome sequence have opened numerous opportunities for fine mapping and gene characterization. The availability of these tools together with investigations of quantitative trait loci (QTL) and candidate genes for key traits such as morpho-agronomic, iron and zinc contents, cooking and quality traits, antioxidant activity, biotic and abiotic stresses pave the way to the development of new strategies for common bean genetic improvement. As a food source, it can contribute to the reduction of food scarcity worldwide in the coming years. Therefore, it is very important to take synergic efforts to integrate common bean genetic and genomic resources in breeding activities to ensure food security and contribute significantly to improved livelihoods in developing countries. Moreover, Kompetitive allele specific PCR (KASP) and CRISPR-Cas9 should be used to develop climate resilience common bean varieties. Here, we provide an overview of the evolution of common bean research by highlighting the past and recent advances in genomics, transgenics, transcriptomics and proteomics and also critically discuss the future prospects for further genetic improvement and better expansion of this crop. Non-thermal processing techniques not only prevent the nutritional losses but also improve the food quality and security. In recent years, consumers demand healthy, safe, and nutritious food. Ultrasound is one of the emerging techniques, which is being studied extensively on various food products. On the other hand, in microwave treatment heat transfer is rapid, so sensory characteristics, nutrients, vitamin content, flavor and color of food are well preserved. A study was conducted on combined effect of sonication and microwave processing on phalsa drink and stored for 120 days. The juice was filled in plastic bottles, sealed and after microwave treatment immediately chilled in ice cold water at 4 ± 1°C. It was observed that synergistic approach of sonication and microwave had shown positive impact on nutritional quality of phalsa drink as it increased (p ≤ 0.05) the total phenolic, flavonoids, reducing power and antioxidant properties of phalsa drink and reduced the microbial load with increase in sonication time from 2 to 8 min. It was concluded that combination of sonication and microwave can be employed without chemical preservatives for treatment of phalsa drink with better retention of nutritional attributes. Present study reports metabolites profiling, antioxidant, and antidiabetic effects of Cuscuta reflexa grown on Casearia tomentosa. The UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS method was used to characterize phytochemicals in most potent extract. Thirteen bioactive compounds/metabolites including (2S)-3-(β-D-galactopyranosyloxy)-2-(hexanoyloxy)propyl nonanoate, 4-O-β-D-glucosyl-4-coumaric acid, isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside, 7-(α-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-2,3,4,5,6-pentahydroxyheptanoic acid, 13Shydroxyoctadecadienoic acid, astragaloside derivative, salicylic acid, oleanolic acid, citric acid, pinellic acid, quinic acid, caffeic acid derivative and caffeic acid-3-glucoside were detected in 80% hydroethanolic (HE) extract. Among different extracts (aqueous, 20-80% HE and pure ethanolic), 80% HE extract showed maximum TPC (186.19 ± 2.15 mg GAE/g DE) and TFC (106.50 ± 1.68 mg RE/g DE). A strong correlation was observed between TPC, TFC, DPPH radical scavenging (IC50 = 60.64 ± 1.74 μg/mL) and TAP activity (235.96 ± 1.33 mg AAE/g DE) of 80% HE extract among others. The same extract also depicted highest α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition with IC50 of 71.84 ± 1.06 and 57.25 ± 1.40 μg/mL, respectively. Molecular docking was performed to explore possible role of identified phytochemicals. Binding affinity data as well as interaction patterns have revealed possible interaction of the identified bioactives against α-glucosidase and α-amylase. Moreover, intra-molecular charge transfer, energies of the FMOs, HOMO-LUMO-Egaps, MEP and IP were also explained. The aim of this present study was to explore antioxidant and bioactive profile of ginger and turmeric. For the purpose, turmeric and ginger (Haldi and Adric) were procured from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Punjab-Pakistan. The study was comprised of different phases. Both of the spices were characterized for their chemical composition and mineral profile. Bioactive compound was extracted by using solvent followed by quantification through the high-pressure liquid chromatography. Furthermore, antioxidant potential including total phenolics content, free radical scavenging activity (DPPH assay) and Ferric reducing antioxidant power test (FRAP assay) was analyzed. Results revealed that the antioxidant profile including free radical scavenging activity (47.67 ± 0.19 mg/100 g) and DPPH (80.16 ± 0.23%) of turmeric ginger powder extract was much higher than turmeric and ginger powder extract. Similarly, total phenolics content (103.39 ± 0.58 mg of GAE/g) and flavonoids (4.27 ± 0.05 mg CE/100 g) were much higher in turmeric ginger powder as compared to turmeric powder and ginger powder, respectively. With the development of molecular marker technology in the 1980s, the fate of plant breeding has changed. Different types of molecular markers have been developed and advancement in sequencing technologies has geared crop improvement. To explore the knowledge about molecular markers, several reviews have been published in the last three decades; however, all these reviews were meant for researchers with advanced knowledge of molecular genetics. This review is intended to be a synopsis of recent developments in molecular markers and their applications in plant breeding and is devoted to early researchers with a little or no knowledge of molecular markers. The progress made in molecular plant breeding, genetics, genomic selection and genome editing has contributed to a more comprehensive understanding of molecular markers and provided deeper insights into the diversity available for crops and greatly complemented breeding stratagems. Genotyping-by-sequencing and association mapping based on next-generation sequencing technologies have facilitated the identification of novel genetic markers for complex and unstructured populations. Nanotechnology has emerged as a promising multidisciplinary field. It has shown several applications including diagnostics, imaging and structural design. Nanoparticles can be synthesized via chemical and physical approaches, carrying many threats to the ecosystem. A field survey was conducted for the sampling of Acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) inhibitor resistance littleseed canarygrass, a major weed of wheat, from Punjab, Pakistan in 2014 for confirmation of resistance. The surveyed regions encompassed four different cropping systems including rice–wheat, maize–wheat, cotton–wheat and mixed cropping. Dose–response assay was conducted for confirmation of resistance. Efficacy of herbicide mixtures including clodinafop–propargyl, metribuzin, pinoxaden and sulfosulfuron at a range of doses was investigated to manage littleseed canarygrass. Results revealed that all populations were resistant to fenoxaprop except PM-BWL-2. The higher level resistance (6.5) was found in populations collected from rice–wheat cropping system. The tested herbicide mixtures at 75% and 100% of the recommended dose of each mixture component provided the effective control of resistant littleseed canarygrass. Mixtures at 50% provided more than 80% control and reduced growth and seed production potential of surviving plants. The confirmation of ACCase inhibitor resistance as the first case of herbicide resistance in Pakistan, leads us to discourage use of ACCase inhibitor herbicides alone. Little is known of glyphosate-induced hormesis in weeds and how this might influence weed management. To test the hormetic effect of low doses of glyphosate on broad-leaved weeds, two experiments were conducted, in the laboratory and the screenhouse. The hormetic effects of glyphosate solution in growth media (0, 65, 130, 250, and 500 g acid equivalent (a.e) ha−1) and foliar spray (0, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 g a.e. ha−1) were tested on four broad-leaved weeds (Coronopus didymus, Chenopodium album, Rumex dentatus, andLathyrus aphaca). Glyphosate solution in the range 65–250 g a.e. ha−1stimulated the germination and seedling growth of all tested weeds. However, at 500 g a.e. ha−1inhibition of germination and growth was observed. Foliarly applied glyphosate in the range 4–32 g a.e. ha−1increased root and shoot length, dry biomass, and seed production ability of all four weeds species; however, the stimulatory response was species dependent. Hemoglobinopathies are one of the major problems in Pakistan. A retrospective analysis of blood samples of 2731 patients from 2010 to 2014 was done at National Institute of Blood Disease & Bone Marrow Transplantation for the workup of anemia or other blood-related disorders. Whole blood samples in EDTA were collected; complete blood counts with peripheral smears were prepared. Hemoglobin (Hb) electrophoresis on Genio was performed at alkaline pH. Samples showing borderline results were further tested by high-performance liquid chromatography or for specific mutation analysis by ARMS-PCR. Out of total 2731, 935 (34.2%) patients had hemoglobinopathies. Out of these 935 patients who had hemoglobinopathies, beta thalassemia minor 51.8%, beta thalassemia major 24.1%, HbD trait 6.7, sickle/ beta thalassemia 4.5%, sickle cell disease 3.9%, HbE trait 1.9%, and sickle cell trait 1.7% were most common hemoglobinopathies. In this study response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to study the effect of H2SO4concentration, temperature, and time on the production of reducing sugars, total sugars, and total phenolic compounds from pine needles. Three variables with three levels showed that maximum release of total phenolic compounds (31.20 ± 0.002 mM) was observed at 1% H2SO4concentration, 130°C temperature for 75 min of residence time. Under these conditions, the predicted value of total phenolic compounds was 31.27 mM, which indicated that the model is valid, having negligible variation in observed and predicted values. The glutenin and gliadin fractions in different wheat varieties produced during two different cropping years were determined through SDS-PAGE and Acid-PAGE. It was evident from the electropherograms that greater numbers of polypeptides were present in the region falling under low molecular weight glutenin subunits. The SDS-PAGE patterns of molecular weight of glutenin subunits of different wheat varieties showed the presence of glutenin subunits in the range of 28.23 to 110.89 kDa and 28.29 to 113.51 kDa during the cropping years 2010-11 and 2011-12, respectively. The highest molecular weight glutenin subunit (110.89 kDa) was observed in wheat variety Lassani-08, during the crop year 2010-11, while during the cropping season 2011-12, the highest molecular weight glutenin subunit (113.51 kDa) was found in wheat variety AARI-10. It was also evident from the results that the maximum numbers of gliadin electropherograms were found in wheat variety Lassani-08. The results regarding gliadin bands revealed that total gliadin electropherograms ranged from 31.03 to 89.61 kDa and 32.91 to 92.22 kDa among different wheat varieties, during the crop years 2010-11 and 2011-12, respectively. The polypeptides with molecular weight between 31.03 to 54.50 kDa and 32.91 to 55.21 kDa belongs to α-, β- and γ-subunits of gliadin, during the crop years 2010-11 and 2011-12 respectively. The group of polypeptides with a molecular weight of about 54.50 to 89.61 kDa and 55.21 to 92.22 kDa was composed of subunits of ω-gliadins during the crop years 2010-11 and 2011-12, respectively. Cereal mixed linkages (1 → 3) (1 → 4)-β-D-glucan is a linear polysaccharide composed of glucose units. Oat β-glucan is a natural polymer. The main products of β-glucanase are oligosaccharides with DP3 and DP4, i.e., 3-Ob-cellobiosyl-D-glucose and 3-Ob-cellotriosyl-D-glucose, which represent over 90% of the molecule. Keeping in mind all the benefits of oat bran, the present study was planned to investigate the structural properties of oat bran, high-performance anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection was used to examine these oligosaccharides. The structural analysis of oat bran of two oat varieties revealed that the ratio of soluble and insoluble triose to tetraose in β-glucan fraction was 1.44 and 1.78, respectively, for Avon variety; while the ratio of soluble and insoluble triose to tetraose in β-glucan fraction for Sargodha-81 was 1.49 and 1.77. The major units determined were cellotriose and cellotetraose. Other units cellopentaose and hexaoses were also existed but in minor fractions. Lichenase hydrolysis high-performance anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection appeared to be the best choice for structural analysis of purified samples of mixed-linkage β-glucan. The current research work was conducted to characterize wheat proteins through immunochemical techniques and to find out their relationship with wheat quality traits. The results revealed that wheat variety AARI-11 possessed higher protein content (11.96%), wet gluten (31.39%), dry gluten (9.66%), Pelshenke value (190.52 min), and SDS-Sedimentation value (28.27 ml) than other tested varieties. The chapattis prepared from the wheat variety AARI-11 got significantly higher sensory scores owing to its higher protein contents. The wheat variety AARI-11 also exhibited significantly the highest antibody response against all the assessed protein fractions. The results of the present study suggest that anti-glutenin and anti-high molecular weight glutenin subunits (HMW-GS) antibody response was found positively correlated to the quality characteristics of flours and chapattis. The present study suggests that the use of antibodies response against glutenin and HMW-GS offers good tool for predicting quality and suitability of wheat to chapatti-making quality. The aim of the present research was to modify wheat gluten by binding methionine to gluten proteins to develop bread for celiac disease (CD) patients. The highest protein content, wet gluten content, dry gluten content and sodium dodecyl sulphate-sedimentation value were shown by the wheat variety AARI-11, therefore, it was selected for gluten modification. The bound methionine to gluten proteins was found increasing along the reaction time as the reaction proceeds and at a maximum near to 60 minutes and then it starts decreasing. The lowest immunoreactivity of the modified gluten was obtained near to 60 min of reaction at pH 10. The results for immunoglobulin A (IgA) index showed that the serum of each patient had positive IgA index to gliadins from unmodified gluten, but just sera of two patients had positive IgA index to gliadins from modified gluten and when these proteins were digested, the sera of no patient's serum had positive IgA reactivity. Among physical characteristics of breads 2 hours after baking, the specific volume of the modified gluten containing bread (4.13 ± 0.14 cm3/g) was lower than the control bread (4.59 ± 0.21 cm3/g). However, bread made with modified gluten had higher specific volumes than other gluten-free breads. Texture of the modified gluten was also affected by modification. Finally, the gluten content in the modified gluten bread was 79 ppm which is under the limits set by the Codex Alimentarius for food with reduced gluten content should have from 20 to 100 ppm. The study concludes that the incorporation of steric immensity into gluten proteins in order to shun immune recognition is the most promising approach to acquire wheat-based products that are tolerated by CD patients. The effect of low melting fractions of milk fat on oxidative stability of ice cream was investigated. Cream was fractionated at three different temperatures (25, 15, and 10°C), designated as LF-25, LF-15, and LF-10. All the low melting fractions were individually incorporated into ice cream and compared with a control, unmodified milk fat. The other ingredients were the same as in the control. Ice creams were stored at –18°C for six months and sampled every 30 days. Fractionation induced major changes in the fatty acid composition of all fractions. Concentration of short-chain and long chain unsaturated fatty acids increased in the low melting fractions. Peroxide value and anisidine value of LF-10 increased from 0.23 to 3.95 (meq/kg O2) and 3.87 to 8.04. Conjugated dienes of control and LF-10 after six months were 1.39 and 4.72 at the same storage period. The flavor score of LF-10 was more than the control and remained indifferent from the control until two months of storage. After six months, the flavor score of LF-10 dropped by 3.6 points as compared to the control, 1.2 points. Low melting fractions of milk fat can be added in the formulation of ice cream to improve its nutritional value with acceptable sensory attributes. The current study was designed to evaluate the effects of sweet lime peel powder (SLPP) on the quality and stability of butter at different storage intervals. Butter is a high-fat food containing trace amounts of water, minerals, and vitamins. Limetta Citrus Risso contains polyphenols, antioxidants, antimicrobial compounds, minerals, and vitamins. Physicochemical analysis (hunter color (L*, a*, and b*) and pH), quality tests (TBARS value and peroxide value), antioxidant activity (DPPH and total phenolic contents), microbiological analysis, and sensory evaluation of butter enriched with SLPP were performed to observe the changes on different treatments at storage intervals with vacuum and aerobic packaging. The butter was treated with 1.5%, 3%, 4.5%, and 6% sweet lime peel powder (SLPP). The variations in TBARS and POV were observed significantly in butter during different treatments, storage periods, and packaging. The results showed that color was changed significantly concerning different treatments, storage periods, and packaging. The L* and b* values were observed to be highest in aerobic packaging, whereas the a* value was increased in vacuum packaging. The antioxidants (DPPH, and TPC) varied significantly in both types of packaging on different treatments at storage intervals. High DPPH and phenolic contents were noticed in the 6% SLPP sample, while lower values were noted in the control sample. With advances in the use of nanomaterials for heat transfer, various attributes have been recognized by researchers, paving the way for more dynamic and interdisciplinary applications. The assessment of heat and mass transfer facilitated by nanomaterials, especially in the context of sliding phenomena, plays a crucial role in manufacturing, industrial operations and the petroleum sector, among others. Driven by such considerations, the present study introduces bioconvective patterns into nanofluid flow, taking into account several sliding conditions. These multiple sliding conditions, related to speed, temperature, concentration and microorganisms, were examined to study the synergistic effects on heat and mass transfer. The flow examined is influenced by a porous stretchable surface, incorporating suction and injection mechanisms, while the fluid itself is electrically conductive. A firing method was designed to tackle the proposed model. The impact of various parameters is analyzed visually, revealing that the velocity profile is diminished by the velocity slip constant and the permeability of the porous medium. Obesity is a global health concern associated with the dysbiosis of intestinal microbial composition. In this study, we investigated the potentials of urolithin A (Uro-A) and urolithin B (Uro-B), two gut microbiota-derived metabolites of ellagitannins, in reducing body weight gain through the modulation of the gut microbiota. We established a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity model in rats that were later administered with either 2.5 mg/kg of Uro-A or Uro-B. Serum biochemical parameters were quantified, and changes in the composition of the gut microbial community were analysed using 16S rDNA gene sequencing. Our results showed that the urolithins significantly decreased the body weight in HFD-fed rats and restored serum lipid profile. The taxonomic analysis showed that both Uro-A and Uro-modulated gut microbes related to body weight, dysfunctional lipid metabolism and inflammation. Nigella sativa L. seed commonly known as black seed, extensively used as a folk medicine in Middle East and Asian subcontinent. Traditionally it is used as an adjunct therapy along with modern medicine to counter the adverse effects. Pure thymoquinone or isolated compounds are not free from adverse effects. The present study was undertaken to evaluate N. sativa seeds powder impact on the fluconazole (FLZ) induced toxicities in the liver and kidneys. Male Wistar rats were acclimatized, divided into four groups each group with six animals. Experimental animals were subjected to an FLZ dose of 50 mg per kg of body mass. The toxic effects of FLZ treatment were manifested and animals were given 1000 mg of N. sativa seeds powder per kg of body weight to observe any retrieval. Dissected animals were evaluated for biochemical and histopathology alterations. Based on findings, it can be concluded that N. sativa seeds powder restored various altered biochemical parameters induced by fluconazole and can be used along with fluconazole in the treatment of fungal infections. Although maize (Zea mays L.) crop has high production potential for forage and grain, however it requires efficient managerial practices for optimum yield. Adequate nutrients for optimum growth led to good vegetative and reproductive growth. Field studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of two endogenous seed phosphorus (P); i.e. SLP: seed with low endogenous phosphorus (1.5 mg kg −1 seed dry weight), and SHP: seed with high endogenous phosphorus (3.2 mg kg −1 seed dry weight). Pre-categorized seeds were tested against five rates of exogenous soil P, namely, (1) control: no P (0 kg P ha −1); (2) 50 kg P ha −1; (3) 100 kg P ha −1; (4) 150 kg P ha −1; and (5) 200 kg P ha −1. Seeds having different P contents depicted non-prominent effects on accumulation patterns with few exceptions of P (at physiological maturity (R6) and of potassium (K) (at grain filling (R4) and R6); exogenous P expressed significant effects. Nitrogen (N), P, K, zinc (Zn), and boron (B) exhibited differential accumulation behavior during maize growth. Nitrogen expressed accumulation from tasseling (VT) to R4; however, P, K, Zn, and B depicted remobilization from VT to R6. Maximum accumulation efficiency of P (50.7%), Zn (46.9%), and B (51.4%) was observed from VT to R4 growth, whereas maximum response of K (60.3%) and N (21.8%) was witnessed from R4 to R6, representing variant source-sink capacities. Boron depicted greater remobilization under low exogenous P applications. Bioethanol is considered the cleanest liquid fuel used as a substitute for depleting fossil fuels. Various technologies have been introduced to form bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass. Seed pods of Bombax ceiba, which are produced and wasted in large amount annually, were used as a source of cellulose. In this study, response surface methodology was used to explore the effects of KOH concentrations, substrate loading, and residence time on cellulose exposure and liberation of reducing sugars (RS), total sugars (TS), and total phenolic compounds from seed pods of B. ceiba. Box-Behnken design with three variables and three levels showed maximum release of total phenolic compounds (394.04 mg/ml) and RS (50.06 mg/ml) corresponding to 3% KOH concentration, 15% substrate level with residence time of 8 h at 121°C, and maximum cellulose exposure (64%), and TS (206.65 mg/ml) liberation was observed at 5% KOH concentration and 10% substrate level at same temperature for same soaking time. While at room temperature maximum cellulose exposed (46%), TS (146.1480 mg/ml), total phenol (300.3901 mg/ml), and RS (9.0075 mg/ml) were observed at 3% KOH, 15% substrate concentration, and 8-h residence time. These results suggested that thermochemical pretreatment is more effective than chemical pretreatment alone. The present study was conducted to evaluate the phytochemical profile of green grasses including barley and wheat. Green grasses were procured from Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, Faisalabad, Pakistan. All the phytochemical parameters were determined through standard methods with slight modifications. The explored parameters include proximate analysis, mineral profile, vitamin profile, and especially antioxidant profile (total phenolic contents (TPCs), free radical scavenging activity, flavonoids, and phenolic acids). The results portrayed that there was a significant difference between the proximate parameters, vitamin, and minerals profile of both barley and wheatgreen grasses. The antioxidant profile - antioxidant activity (283.5%) and free radical scavenging activity (99.29%) - of barley grass was much higher than wheatgrass. The TPCs (203.52 µmol of GAE/g) and flavonoids (161.12 μmol/L) were much higher in wheatgrass as compared to barley grass. Barley grass showed maximum contents of phenolic acids including benzoic acid (73.84 µg/g), caffeic acid (86.61 µg/g), gallic acid (6.33 µg/g), syringic acid (170.46 µg/g), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (42.52 µg/g), and Ferulic acid (1560.3 µg/g).
