The supercritical carbon dioxide Brayton cycle system is being considered for application in the power conversion system of advanced liquid metal fast reactors. One important research topic is the coupled heat transfer characteristics and enhanced heat transfer laws between liquid metals and supercritical fluids. However, the traditional Reynolds analogy hypothesis with a constant turbulent Prandtl number is difficult to satisfy the numerical conjugate heat transfer research of liquid metals and supercritical fluids. Therefore, based on the open-source computational fluid dynamics program OpenFOAM, a numerical method suitable for the coupled heat transfer calculation of liquid metals and supercritical fluids was developed, which can achieve precise conjugate heat transfer solutions by applying different turbulence models and heat flux models to liquid metals and supercritical fluids. Subsequently, based on this method, the coupled heat transfer behavior of liquid metals and supercritical fluids in the straight channel of a typically printed circuit heat exchanger was studied. The focus was investigating the conjugate heat transfer characteristics of liquid heavy metal lead-bismuth eutectic and liquid metal sodium with supercritical carbon dioxide. We first give a pre-order principle whose form is very general. Combining the pre-order principle and generalized Gerstewitz functions, we establish a general equilibrium version of set-valued Ekeland variational principle (denoted by EVP), where the objective function is a set-valued bimap defined on the product of quasi-metric spaces and taking values in a quasi-ordered linear space, and the perturbation consists of a subset of the ordering cone multiplied by the quasi-metric. From this, we obtain a number of new results which essentially improve the related results. Particularly, the earlier lower boundedness condition has been weakened. While numerous studies have unpacked gender-based disparities in judges' sentencing decisions, few studies have examined the gender gap in correction settings. This study examines inmates' gender gap in actual incarceration length with the effects of criminal propensities adjusted. Based on a sample including both petty and serious offenders, we use survival analysis to examine whether female inmates had shorter incarcerations to similarly situated males. We use Wilcoxon signed-rank tests to examine whether males and females who had indistinguishable lengths of incarcerations also demonstrated comparable levels of criminal propensities. Findings illustrate that the lenient treatment for females is conditional rather than universal. Females had shorter incarceration lengths only when they committed less severe crimes. Additionally, among offenders who committed less severe crimes, females demonstrated significantly lower levels of criminal propensity than males. However, among serious offenders, neither a gender gap in incarceration length nor gender disparity in criminal propensities was found. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Amantadine is one of the most prescribed antiviral medications. Considering its abuse is life-threatening, monitoring amantadine residues is urgently needed. This study designed a dipstick assay based on lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) platforms with an indicator range of 50–200 ng/mL. The dipstick consists of four coloured test lines that detect the concentration of amantadine semi-quantitatively in the range of 0–200 ng/mL. The amantadine concentration was categorised as 0–50, 50–100, 100–200, or > 200 ng/mL, depending on the response of the test lines. Furthermore, we measured the amantadine residues in commercial meat samples by this LFIA. The results were highly agreeable with those determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The LFIA shows potential for routine monitoring of amantadine in meat products, and the results of this study provide insight into the development of new LFIA devices for use in agricultural industries. Praziquantel (PZQ) is a pyrazino-isoquinoline compound with broad spectrum of activity against parasitic trematodes and cestodes, and a key veterinary drug in the parasitic disease control field. However, PZQ residues caused by non-conforming or excessive use in food-producing animals may pose a serious threat to human health. Herein, a simple, sensitive and reproducible LC-MS/MS method was developed for the simultaneous determination of praziquantel and trans- and cis-4-hydroxypraziquantel in black goat tissues to guide the reasonable use of PZQ. The mean recoveries for three target analytes were 71.2 ∼ 117.6%, and the limits of quantification were 1.0 μg/kg. Twenty-five healthy black goats were administered a single dose of praziquantel tablets at a dose of 35 mg/kg of body weight for residue elimination study, The results revealed that praziquantel and 4-hydroxypraziquantel were rapidly depleted in goat tissues and the elimination half-lives did not exceed 1 day in all tissues except for muscle and lung. A novel water-soluble polysaccharide, named ICP-1, was isolated and purified by Sephadex G-200 after extracting the crude polysaccharide (ICP) from Imperial Chrysanthemum. The structural characterization of ICP-1 was determined by physical and chemical methods, FT-IR, NMR, SEM, HPGPC, periodate oxidation, Smith degradation, methylation and Congo red test. Then, acid production and proliferation of lactic acid bacteria and the tolerance tests of simulated gastrointestinal fluid were measured to investigate the activity of prebiotic potential. The results showed that ICP-1 was an acidic hetero-polysaccharide with an average molecular weight of 2.98 × 103 kDa and a specific optical rotation of +155°. The glycosyl residues of ICP-1 were composed of (1→), (1→4) and (1→6) glucose, (1→5) arabinose, (1→4) galacturonic acid and (1→3,6) mannose. Besides, ICP-1 can speed up the acid production of lactic acid bacteria and promote the growth and proliferation of lactic acid bacteria effectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Early adverse experiences have been identified as a salient risk factor for crime and delinquency. However, past empirical studies predominantly used youth and young adult samples; much less is known about this risk factor's effect on adult offending. This study examines early adverse experiences and adult pro-social bonds simultaneously using a mixed-gender sample of serious adult offenders with an average age of 35. Findings from survival analysis suggest that early adversities have an enduring detrimental effect on people's lives well into adulthood yet in an intricate way. They have no direct effect on recidivism among adult offenders. However, they significantly influence recidivism by interacting with gender: Female respondents with early adversities demonstrated a significantly higher risk of recidivism than other female respondents, whereas no such effect was observed among male respondents. Finally, applying the above EVPs to organizational behavior sciences, we obtain some interesting results on organizational change and development with leadership. In particular, we give several EVPs for approximately efficient solutions in set-valued optimization, which not only extend the related results from vector-valued objective functions into set-valued objective functions, but also improve the related results by removing a usual assumption for K-boundedness (by scalarization) of the objective function's range. The chinaberry yellow-banded longhorn beetle, Anoplophora horsfieldi Hope 1842 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is an important pest on many economic tree species. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of A. horsfieldi was determined, which was 15,837 bp in length and contained 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA, 22 tRNA genes, and a non-coding A + T-rich region. The phylogenetic analysis based on mitochondrial genomes showed that A. horsfieldi is sister to a clade formed by A. chinensis and A. glabripennis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Shifting demographics in the United States imply growing diversity in the marketplace and create unprecedented demand for professionals capable of communicating strategically with diverse publics. In spite of diversity efforts in mass communication, public relations faces difficulties in attracting ethnic minorities. This study explores this lack of diversity through the lens of Asian American public relations practitioners in the United States, a population that is underrepresented in the field of public relations despite being the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States. In-depth interviews with Asian American practitioners reveal a perceived lack of diversity in public relations, attributed to lack of interest in public relations within Asian American communities, limited knowledge about the industry and opportunities for ethnic minorities, family influence to pursue other professions, and cultural expectations for Asian American professionals to attain leadership roles, which are scarce for ethnic minorities in public relations. Based on these findings, we recommend educating Asian American communities about the management function of public relations, framing it as a social science with emphasis on research and strategic planning, and increasing recruitment of Asian American students in public relations education to provide them with training and education necessary to succeed in the field. We design a two-photon interferometer in which the second-order interference of ‘two-photon’ can be observed. This is realized by introducing a relative phase shift between different path combinations which the photon pairs choose to take. In this interferometer, both the second- and the fourth-order interferences occur when we adjust the time delay continuously. 1. The enantiomeric enrichment or degradation of epoxiconazole has been reported in grape, soil, tubifex and mealworm beetle. But, little is known about its enantioselective behaviors in mammals. 2. To further understand differences in the distribution, degradation and excretion of epoxiconazole enantiomers in vivo, male CD-1 mice were selected as the test model to investigate the enantioselective behaviors after a single oral gavage. Mice were sacrificed after 1 h, 3 h, 7 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h, 72 h treatment, blood, tissues and excretions were collected for epoxiconazole analysis by LC-MS/MS. 3. On the Lux-Cellulose-1 chiral column, an enrichment of the second eluting (+)-epoxiconazole was generally observed, and feces and urine showed similar EF with major tissues. 4. To elucidate the potential role of intestinal bacterial flora in stereospecific degradation of epoxiconazole, mice fecal flora were culturedin vitroand incubated with epoxiconazole for 48 h. Results showed that (−)-epoxiconazole was preferentially degraded by intestinal bacterial. 5. These results may provide useful information for risk assessment of epoxiconazole on non-target animals. Carbosulfan (CAS) is used as an insecticide on vegetables, but its toxicity might increase due to the formation of higher toxic metabolites including carbofuran (CAN), 3-hydroxycarbofuran (3-OH) and 3-ketocarbofuran (3-KETO). In this study, the transformation of CAS to its metabolites in pakchoi (Brassica campestrisssp.) and cucumber (CucumissativusL.) was investigated in the field in Beijing and Changsha and in a greenhouse in Hangzhou. CAS was metabolised to CAN, 3-OH and 3-KETO in pakchoi but only to CAN and 3-OH in cucumber. In pakchoi, the degradation of CAS (as measured by the DT50value, the time marking the disappearance of 50% of the pesticide) was the fastest in Hangzhou (0.7 d), followed by Changsha (1.4 d) and Beijing (2.3 d), whereas in cucumber, its degradation was the fastest in Changsha (1.6 d) and Hangzhou (1.6 d), followed by Beijing (2.5 d). These results suggested the monitoring of metabolites should be a prior objective for CAS, and different metabolites should be considered when assessing the risk of CAS in different vegetables. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first report of PJVK gene mutation in a Chinese non-syndromic sensorineural hearing loss (NSHL) family. Our data indicate that the PJVK gene contributes to hearing impairment in the Chinese population, but it is not a major cause. Objective: To investigate the contribution of PJVK mutations to NSHL in the Chinese population. Methods: We screened for the PJVK gene in a sample of 65 autosomal recessive NSHL families without GJB2, SLC26A4, or mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene mutations. Seven pairs of PCR primers were designed to amplify all of the exons and their flanking regions of the PJVK gene. The PCR products were sequenced and analyzed for identification of mutations. Results: In all, we identified one novel frameshift mutation, c.930_931del AC (p.C312W fsX19), co-segregating with the phenotype in one consanguineous family with a prevalence of 1.5% (1/65). The p.C312W fsX19 mutation was just positioned in the zinc-fingers domain, which was important to the function of pejvakin, and resulted in a stop codon after 19 additional amino acids. It was not identified in the controls and was considered as the causative mutation of family 804566 with autosomal recessive, non-syndromic, prelingual sensorineural hearing impairment. Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI), a common pathological process following hemorrhagic shock, can lead to an internal milieu disorder, which is an important factor of multiple organ failure (MOF). It has been shown that the mesenteric lymph return plays a deleterious effect on MOF induced by hemorrhagic shock. In this study, we investigated the effects of mesenteric lymph duct ligation (MLDL) on gene expression profiles of renal tissue following hemorrhagic shock with fluid resuscitation. Methods: After establishment of hemorrhagic shock model and fluid resuscitation in rats of shock and shock ligation groups, the MLDL was performed in shock ligation group, and only threading under the mesenteric lymph duct in the shock group. Then, the fixed position renal tissue was taken out for homogenate in two groups at 3 h after resuscitation, the total mRNA was extracted, reversely transcribed into cDNAs and marked with Cy3 and Cy5. The cDNAs were subjected for microarray scanning with 12,028 cDNA probes; the differentially expressed genes between two groups were analyzed. Results: In the 5812 valid dates of rat genomes transcription, there were 34 known differentially expressed genes between the two groups, of which 11 genes were up-regulated whereas 23 genes were down-regulated by MLDL. These different expressed genes encoding protein function were mainly involved in signal transduction, transcription regulation, metabolism, transport, cell growth, cell cycle, cell adhesion, cell movement, cellular component, and biological process. Conclusions: The mechanism of MLDL alleviating the AKI aftershock might be associated with up- or down-regulation of the above gene expressions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the effect of fertilisation and intercropping on the uptake of cadmium (Cd) by maize plants (Zea maysL. var. Guangtian-2). Maize was intercropped with soybean, peanut, chickpea, alfalfa, adzuki bean, garden pea, amaranth, Chinese mustard, and flowering Chinese cabbage. The results showed that most legumes substantially enhanced Cd uptake by maize under different fertiliser treatments. Cd accumulation in the leaf tissues of maize was increased by garden pea to 1.5 times the amount in the control (maize alone) with PK fertiliser. Maize intercropped with garden pea absorbed 1225 μg plant−1 Cd and transferred 925.9 μg plant−1 Cd to above ground tissues. Adzuki bean proved as the most valuable intercrop for enhancing Cd extraction from soil by maize owing to its relatively large maize bioconcentration factor of 5.9 and large transfer factor of 0.47 in the no fertiliser treatment. The results suggest that legumes caused a greater effect than non-legumes on Cd concentration in maize under different fertilisers; application of NPK fertiliser had positive effects on Cd level in intercropped maize. In this study, the complete mitogenome of A. cribratus was determined, which was 17,329 bp in length and contained 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNA, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 control regions. This study investigated the effect of intercropping on the accumulation of cadmium (Cd) by maize plants (Zea maysL. var. Guangtian-2). Maize was intercropped with alfalfa, cowpea, garden pea, kidney bean, peanut, and soybean. The results showed that most legumes substantially enhanced Cd uptake by maize. The highest Cd uptake by both maize and peanut in one pot was 176, 282, 1044, and 1775 µg pot−1on day 40, 55, 75, and 95, respectively. Conclusions: The majority of the patients with unilateral auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (UANSD) were pediatric and mostly showed a great degree of hearing loss when diagnosed. Abnormal auditory brainstem response (ABR) and preserved otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) and/or cochlear microphonics (CM) were important features to differentiate it from common sensorineural deafness and central nerve hearing loss. Objective: To identify the clinical characteristics of patients with UANSD. Methods: This was a retrospective study involving 14 patients diagnosed as having UANSD between 2004 and 2010 in the Chinese PLA Hospital. Results: In all, 50% of the cases were males (1:1 sex ratio) and the average age of onset was 4.1 years. Of the 14 affected ears with UANSD in these cases, 6 were left-sided, while 8 were right-sided. Of the 14 contralateral ears, 4 presented with sensorineural hearing loss, while the other 10 showed normal hearing. The degree of hearing loss in the 14 affected ears varied, including moderate in 1, moderately severe in 4, severe in 5, and profound in 4. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of merging surface images obtained individually by the structured-light scanning and the spiral computed-tomography (CT) scan. The study was conducted on six patients with various facial defects. A fast structured-light scanning of the face and a spiral CT scan of the head were carried out for each patient. The structured-light surface was superimposed on the reconstructed CT soft-tissue surface using initial positioning based on corresponding landmarks and then fine registration completed by the iterative closest point algorithm. For validity estimates, registration differences were calculated, and the average values were 0.5–0.8 mm. The virtual head can be displayed with different combinations of interior and exterior surface details. It was concluded that a structured-light surface and spiral CT images can be superimposed to create an accurate and complete 3D virtual head model of the facial defect with underlying skeletal structure using the registration method. Vesicles have been prepared at a constant molar ratio of L-glutamic acid/1-aminodecane/ibuprofen/H2O. The fusion dynamics of the vesicles have been directly observed and followed by using optical microscopy and freeze fracture replication-electron microscopy technologies. Microarray technology is commonly used to identify differentially expressed (DE) genes across conditions. A related issue that has rarely been discussed but is equally important is to identify commonly expressed genes or constantly expressed genes across different organs, tissues, or species. A common practice in the literature for such studies is to apply the differential expression analysis and conclude that a gene is unchanged if there is no statistical evidence to conclude for differential expression. However, genes that are not statistically significantly DE could be (1) truly non-DE genes or (2) truly DE genes not detected by the statistical test of differential expression due to lack of power resulted from high noise level or lack of replication. Therefore, the practice of treating non-statistically significantly DE genes as non-DE genes has the risk of including genes that are truly DE without controlling such errors. We argue that if one wants to identify genes that are truly non-DE, one needs to show statistical evidence through valid statistical tests with the appropriate type I error rate control. In this paper, we consider the identification of non-DE genes through statistical equivalence tests under the framework of multiple testing. In particular, we consider the average equivalence criterion and study the power and false discovery rate (FDR) of the standard average equivalence test, the “two one-sided tests” (TOST), through extensive simulation studies based on real microarray data sets. We study the effects of various factors that can affect the power and FDR of the equivalence test including the proportion of non-DE genes. A chiral stationary phase (CSP) was prepared by bonding emamectin onto unmodified spherical gel. Normal‐phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) methods for the resolution of three chiral triazole pesticides, triadimefon, difenoconazole, and propiconazol, on the CSP were developed. Several operating parameters, such as mobile phase composition, column temperature, and flow rate were studied for the optimization of the resolution. Better separations were achieved using 5% isopropanol for triadimefon, 20% iso‐propanol for difenoconazole, and 5% isopropanol for propiconazol as modifiers, in n‐hexane at 10°C with the selectivity factors (α) of 1.29, 1.29, and 1.48, respectively. Pinus yunnanensis is distributed in Southwestern China which is one of the main forest tree species. It is used for construction, railway sleepers, boards, furniture, and wood pulp. Due to the genetic infiltration hybridization between P. yunnanensis with P. densata and P. kesiya, the classification boundary between these groups is blurred and the identification is difficult. In this study, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of P. yunnanensis was determined using next-generation sequencing. The entire cp genome was determined to be 119,707 bp in length. It contained large single-copy (LSC) and small single-copy (SSC) regions of 65,619 and 53,098 bp, respectively, which were separated by a pair of 495bp inverted repeat (IR) regions. The genome contained 116 genes, including 76 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and 4 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the genome is 38.5%. A phylogenetic tree reconstructed by 23 chloroplast genomes reveals that P. yunnanensis is most related with P. kesiya. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we have set up a determination method of nucleic acids at nanogram levels by using a common spectrofluorometer to detect intensity of resonance light scattering (RLS). We have also studied the characteristics of RLS spectra of Imidacloprid with nucleic acids, the effective factors, and the optimum conditions. The RLS of imidacloprid was greatly enhanced by DNA in the range of pH 1.5-1.7. A RLS peak at 310 nm was found, and the enhanced intensity of RLS at this wave- length was proportional to the concentration of DNA. The linear range of the calibration curve was 0-5.0 μgmL-1, 5.0-20.0 μgmL-1 for calf thymus DNA, 0-1.0 μgmL-1 for thermally denatured calf thymus DNA, 0-14.6 μgmL-1 for salmon sperm DNA (ssDNA), and 4.0- 7.0 μgmL-1 for yeast RNA (yRNA). The limits of detection (LOD, 3σ) were 12.8, 8.7, 29.5, and 35.5 μgmL-1, respectively. The nucleic acids in six synthetic samples and in three real samples were determined. The results were satisfactory, and the recovery rates were in the range of 99-106%, 91-109%, respectively. A chiral stationary phase (CSP) was prepared by coating cellulose-tris(3, 5-dimethyl-phenylcarbamate) (CDMPC) onto aminopropylated spherical gel, and used this CSP to separate the enantiomers of metalaxyl and metalaxyl intermediate successfully by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The effects of 2-propanol concentration in mobile phase on retention and resolution were investigated, and according to this analytical method the optical purity of metalaxyl and metalaxyl intermediate was established. Sorbus folgneri (C.K.Schneid.) Rehder is widely distributed tree species across China which can be used as medicine, building materials and ornamental plants. In this study, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of S. folgneri was determined using next-generation sequencing. The entire cp genome was determined to be 163,464 bp in length. It contained large single-copy (LSC) and small single-copy (SSC) regions of 86,721 and 17,961 bp, respectively, which were separated by a pair of 29,391bp inverted repeat (IR) regions. The genome contained 133 genes, including 88 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the genome is 36.4%. AbstractPhospholipids (PL) have garnered significant attention due to their physiological activities. Milk and other dairy products are important dietary sources for humans and have been extensively used to analyze the presence of PL by various analytical techniques. In this paper, the analysis techniques of PL were reviewed with the eight trigrams of phospholipidomics and a comprehensive fingerprint of 1295 PLs covering 8 subclasses in milk and other dairy products, especially. Technology is the primary productive force. Based on phospholipidomics technology, we further review the relationship between the composition of PL and factors that may be involved in processing and experimental operation, and emphasized the significance of the biological role played by PL in dietary supplements and biomarkers (production, processing and clinical research), and providing the future research directions.
