Intramuscular fat (IMF) is closely related to the meat quality of livestock and poultry. As a new cell culture technique in vitro, cell co-culture has been gradually applied to the related research of IMF formation because it can simulate the changes of microenvironment in vivo during the process of IMF cell formation. In the co-culture model, in addition to studying the effects of skeletal muscle cells on the proliferation and differentiation of IMF, we can also consider the role of many secretion factors in the formation of IMF, thus making the cell research in vitro closer to the real level in vivo. This paper reviewed the generation and origin of IMF, summarized the existing co-culture methods and systems, and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each method as well as the challenges faced in the establishment of the system, with emphasis on the current status of research on the formation of IMF for human and animal based on co-culture technology. Context: Sepsis is now the leading cause of death in the noncardiovascular intensive care unit (ICU). Objective: To investigate whether polymorphisms in IL21 gene contribute to sepsis susceptibility. Materials and methods: Three single-nucleotide polymorphisms of IL21 (rs907715, rs2055979, rs12508721) were genotyped by TaqMan assay in patients with sepsis and control subjects. Results: Polymorphisms rs2055979 and rs12508721 in IL21 were more frequent in sepsis patients compared to general population. But allele frequency of rs907715 was not significantly different between sepsis patients and control subjects. Conclusion: Polymorphisms in IL21 may be associated with sepsis risk. Context: Interleukin-27 is a new member of the IL-12 family which plays an important role in human carcinogenesis. Objective: To investigate whether polymorphisms inIL27contribute to renal cell carcinoma (RCC) risk. Materials and methods: These two polymorphisms were genotyped in 329 RCC patients and 386 healthy controls by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Results: Significantly increased RCC risk was associated the G allele of both rs153109 and rs17855750 (rs153109:p = 0.006, OR = 1.364, 95%CI = 1.095–1.700; rs17855750:p = 0.001, OR = 1.768, 95%CI = 1.245–2.511). Conclusion: The present study provided evidence that rs153109 and rs17855750 were associated with increased risk for RCC, suggesting an important role IL-27 may play in nephrocarcinogenesis. Context: AXIN1 is a central component of Wnt signalling pathway which is essential for embryonic development. Objective: To investigate whether polymorphisms of AXIN1 contribute to ASD susceptibility. Materials and methods: Three tag SNPs (rs12921862, rs370681 and rs1805105) in AXIN1 were genotyped in 208 ASD patients and 302 healthy controls using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) in a Chinese population. Results: Significantly increased ASD risk was observed to be associated with the A allele of rs12921862 ( p < 0.0001, OR = 3.096, 95% CI = 2.037-4.717). Increased ASD risk was observed to be associated with rs370681 in a codominant ( p = 0.043, OR = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.04-2.22) and overdominant model ( p = 0.016, OR = 1.57, 95% CI = 1.08-2.27). Objective: To determine whether preeclampsia is associated with polymorphisms in the IL-1α. Methods: We genotyped a Chinese population (212 women with preeclampsia and 203 controls) for the polymorphism of the interleukin-1α gene (3′-untranslated region). Clinical data were collected from medical records. Results: Significantly reduced preeclampsia risk was found to be associated with both I allele ( p < 0.001, OR = 0.487, CI = 0.360-0.658) and I/I genotype ( p < 0.01, OR = 0.26, CI = 0.13-0.55) of the rs3783553 polymorphisms. Conclusion: The 'TTCA' insertion allele of rs3783553 contributes to reduce the individual's susceptibility for preeclampsia, which implies that the insertion allele is a protective factor for the preeclampsia development. The IL1RL1, which encodes at least three isoforms by alternative splicing, has been identified to be involved in the initiation and perpetuation of inflammation. In spite of being a main contributor of maternal and perinatal mortality, the mechanism responsible for the pathophysiology of preeclampsia has not yet been well addressed. To investigate the relationship between IL1RL1 polymorphisms and preeclampsia risk, we identified the correlation between three tag SNPs (rs13017455, rs1420103 and rs17027006) in IL1RL1 with preeclampsia risk in a case-control study. A total of 214 cases and 208 controls were recruited to participate in this study. Genotypes of the three SNPs were determined with the use of polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism assay. Significantly reduced preeclampsia risk was found to be associated with the CT genotype of rs13017455 ( p = 0. 032, OR = 0. 66, 95% CI = 0.45-0.97) in overdominant model. Differences were particularly significant in the severe preeclampsia subgroup ( p = 0.045, OR = 0.66, 95% CI = 0.44-0.99) and the early-onset severe preeclampsia subgroup ( p = 0.0097, OR = 0.47, 95% CI = 0.26-0.84). Significantly increased mild preeclampsia risk was observed associated with GG genotype of rs1420103 polymorphisms ( p = 0.029, OR = 2.18, 95% CI = 1.09-4.34), while reducing late-onset severe preeclampsia susceptibility was associated with TT genotype of rs1420103 ( p = 0.02, OR = 0.49, 95% CI = 0.26-0.92).
