Prior research has found that consumers who perceive themselves to be members of a brand community are more likely to help the brand recover from a transgression, particularly when they feel psychological ownership of the community. We examine whether consumers are also more likely to help when they perceive that the brand is a member, and therefore a co-owner, of the brand community. We find that perceptions of brand membership in the community increase the likelihood to help after a transgression via perceptions of the brand as a co-owner of the community and brand forgiveness. This suggests that brands perceived as members and co-owners of their communities benefit from protections derived from both ingroup favouritism and expectations of group reciprocity. These relationships are strengthened when the brand is perceived as an active community member through the visibility, but not necessarily the quality, of its interactions with the community. We used multivariate meta-analysis modeling variances and covariances of suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and non-suicidal self-injury to investigate if the Fearlessness About Death scale differentiated between suicide attempts and non-suicidal self-injury. The systematic search yielded 27 studies that fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The association of suicidal ideation with suicide attempts was comparable to the association of suicidal ideation with non-suicidal self-injury. The Fearlessness About Death scale weakened both associations to a comparative degree. These results cast doubt on the clinical utility of the Fearlessness About Death scale, as well as the self-assessment of suicidal ideation, suicide attempts and non-suicidal self-injury. This paper deals with the problem of optimising the network of a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) company, placing emphasis on the distinct characteristics of the 3PL environment. The goal is to minimise the warehousing and distribution costs for both forward and reverse product flows. A new Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP) model is proposed to address this interesting problem. The related decisions include: selection of (a) warehouse(s) and the related product inventory quantities, (b) product unit loads transported, (c) truck combinations employed to perform the corresponding forward and reverse trips. The model was applied in a case study of a 3PL company to optimise part of its forward supply chain that comprises three warehouses, 23 suppliers and 53 customers. The results obtained were very encouraging, since overall warehousing and distribution costs were lowered by 10.8%. Sensitivity analysis indicated that additional savings may result from optimising warehousing capacities. The main contributions of this work are the inclusiveness of key aspects of the 3PL environment in the proposed model, as well as placing emphasis on warehousing costs and on management of truck capacities. Introduction: Mental health concerns have been noted to be highly prevalent for youth with intellectual disability (ID), with or without autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The purpose of the current study was to examine a Canadian sample of youth with ID, with or without ASD, to explore caregiver-reported percentages, predictors, and treatment methods for mental health concerns. Method: The sample included 358 caregivers who completed the GO4KIDDS survey on behalf of their child between the ages of 4 and 20 years (M = 11.36; SD = 3.82). Results: In total, 56% of youth with ID (with or without ASD) were reported to experience mental health concerns. Adaptive functioning and diagnosis were significant predictors of mental health concerns. Of the youth who were reported to experience mental health concerns, 80% received some type of treatment, most commonly informal therapies (52%). Conclusion: More than half of the samples were reported to experience mental health concerns and while the majority received some type of treatment, many of the treatments utilized are not evidence-based. Objectives: We examined links between marital quality and loneliness among aging veterans and explored whether veterans' PTSD symptom severity moderated these associations. Methods: Data came from 269 Vietnam-Era combat veterans who had a spouse/partner (M age = 60.50). Utilizing two waves of data spanning six years, we estimated multiple regression models that included positive and negative marital quality, PTSD symptom severity, and loneliness in 2010 as predictors of loneliness in 2016. Results: Facets of positive (but not negative) marital quality were associated with veterans' loneliness. Companionship – spousal affection and understanding – was associated with lower subsequent loneliness among veterans with low/moderate – but not high – PTSD symptom severity. Conversely, sociability – the degree to which one's marriage promotes socializing with others – was associated with lower subsequent loneliness regardless of PTSD symptom severity. Conclusions: Companionship and sociability were each associated with veterans' subsequent loneliness. Whereas benefits of companionship were attenuated at higher levels of PTSD symptom severity, benefits of sociability were not. Clinical Implications: For veterans with higher PTSD symptoms, recommending mental health treatment to decrease symptom severity may help them to reap the benefits of close/intimate relationships. Student academic success depends on a variety of factors, one of which is self-regulation of learning. An important part of self-regulation involves selecting from a myriad of course resources available and planning to use those resources. This study explores the use of an online tool to help undergraduate students improve self-regulation by prompting them to consider which course resources they will use and how they will use them. This method was shown to improve academic performance in a college level statistic course (Chen et al. 2017). However, it is unknown if this strategy will work in other types of courses or if student's metacognitions might be impacted by such prompts. Prompts were provided to undergraduate students in a variety of courses prior to each exam, but the prompts did not improve their academic performance relative to a control group. However, students with higher levels of self-determination and implementation had better course and average exam grades than other students, affirming the role of self-regulation in academic performance. Several studies report spatial memory decline in old age. However, few studies have examined whether old adults are specifically impaired in allocentric memory tasks (testing for object-to-object spatial location memory). Thus, the present study examined the effects of age on allocentric spatial memory using a novel landmark memory task. Young (18–25 years old) and old (65 years and older) participants watched 10 short videos that displayed 180-degree viewpoints of distinct real-world locations with landmark cues. After watching each video, participants saw a snapshot from the video and were asked whether a landmark cue previously viewed in the video was to the left or right of the snapshot view. Young adults outperformed old adults on the task. This age-related decline in spatial performance was similar for men and women. These findings support that spatial ability in an allocentric task is sensitive to age-related cognitive decline in men and women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examined the benefits of an intergenerational home-based service learning program to reduce psychological distress for homebound older adults. Multivariate regression analyses were conducted with a sample of 182 to examine the association of length of service from the program and presence of caregivers with psychological distress. Findings indicated length of service (β = -0.15, p <.05) and having a child as a caregiver (β = -0.14, p <.05) were associated with a reduction in psychological distress. This article reports the outcomes of community participation and quality learning education resulting from the MEMBACA II project. MEMBACA (Making Early Matter through Books and Community Action) is a literacy project that targets young children in Indonesia. The MEMBACA project includes teacher training, community reading activities, and age-appropriate local language material creation to support emergent literacy skills among early-grade children. These skills include letter awareness, single-word reading of most used words, reading fluency, reading accuracy, and reading comprehension. 31 participants involved in this study, purposively selected to be interviewed through the phone. The thematic analysis found that a better learning environment was produced, a code of conduct is now available in schools, and it has helped in mainstreaming a more positive disciplining approach to teachers. This study has also identified that villages are now allocating their village fund for supporting literacy activities, although the process has experienced a setback in the year 2020 due to the pandemic. Further, while teachers' capacities were increased due to various activities, learning environments are still troubled by poor infrastructures and a lack of community awareness. Engagement of communities and local government were mostly improved, with major problem lies in the continuity of the literacy-related activities, affected by various factors including poor advocacy and COVID-19 pandemic. Minority schools in Greek Thrace implement a model of bilingual education in primary and secondary education, where half of the lessons of the curriculum is taught in Greek and the other half, in Turkish. Although, at an institutional level, the bilingual character of the minority schools in Thrace is clearly defined regarding both legal operational dimensions, and teachers have been trained in a special tertiary school, their teaching ideologies and practice – reflecting actually their linguistic attitudes as well as their politico-ideological placements – do not seem to be consistent with contemporary perceptions and theories of managing bilingualism and translanguaging in teaching practice. The aim of the present paper is to shed light on minority (Turkish speaking) teachers' beliefs toward the schools' aims and their own teaching aims and practices, which are linked to their ideologies cοncerning bilingual development and translanguaging. The present study is based on semi-structured interviews with 21 educators, who teach at minority primary schools. The results show that there are different approaches inside the group of participants in relation to how they perceive and manage their student's multilingual and bilingual profiles. Research Findings: The present study examined site and provider characteristics that may be associated with use of exclusionary discipline in center- and home-based childcare sites (N = 320). Higher numbers of suspensions and expulsions occurred at center-based sites and at sites with greater percentages of children of color. Furthermore, sites that received professional support services expelled more children. At the provider level, expulsions were higher among providers who had fewer years of experience, endorsed elevated levels of burnout, and received professional support services. Classroom suspensions were higher among providers who had earned an associate degree or higher and who rated developmentally appropriate and culturally inclusive practices as less important. Practice or Policy: Organizational, state, and federal policies that limit and regulate exclusionary discipline practices may reduce inequities affecting young children of color. Furthermore, it is important to increase access to training that will enhance providers' knowledge of developmentally appropriate and inclusive practices and reduce burnout, particularly for less experienced providers and providers at center-based sites. Increased monitoring of early childhood suspensions (rather than only expulsions) can help align resources with childcare sites in need. Purpose: To explore whether psychological factors are associated with ability to meet recommended physical activity thresholds after hip fracture. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional observational study of 216 community-dwelling adults aged ≥65 years after hip fracture (mean age 79 SD 7 years, 70% female). Multiple ordinal regression analysis determined factors associated with meeting physical activity thresholds related to positive health outcomes: 4,400 and 7,100 daily steps. Explanatory variables were: walking self-confidence; falls self-efficacy; depression; anxiety; co-morbidities; previous gait aid use; nutritional status; age; and gender. Results: Forty-three participants (20%) met the lower threshold of ≥4,400 to <7,100 steps and thirty participants (14%) met the upper threshold of ≥7,100 steps. Walking self-confidence was positively associated with meeting higher physical activity thresholds (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] 1.32: 95% CI 1.11 to 1.57, p = 0.002). Age (AOR 0.93: 95% CI 0.89 to 0.98, p = 0.003), DASS-21 anxiety score (AOR 0.81: 95% CI 0.69 to 0.94, p = 0.008) and comorbidity index score (AOR 0.52: 95% CI 0.36 to 0.72, p < 0.001) were negatively associated with meeting higher physical activity thresholds. Conclusion: Walking self-confidence and anxiety are potentially modifiable factors associated with meeting physical activity thresholds related to positive health outcomes after hip fracture. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Older people are often physically inactive after hip fracture, which can lead to negative health outcomes and increased risk of mortality. The potentially modifiable psychological factors of walking self-confidence and anxiety are associated with meeting recommended physical activity levels after hip fracture. Youth adjudicated for sex offenses are frequently overridden to high-risk on general recidivism risk assessments. Little research supports this use of overrides. This study seeks to examine the extent to which those adjudicated for sex and non-sex offenses differ on recidivism rates in a sample of 1,380 sex and non-sex offending youth from a Midwestern state juvenile court. Propensity score matching was used to examine general recidivism rate differences between those adjudicated for sex and non-sex offenses. After matching youth on race, age, and eight criminogenic risk factors, youth adjudicated for sexual offenses recidivated at a significantly lower rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Acute and chronic pain are the most frequent complications of sickle cell disease (SCD), often severely reducing quality of life and requiring management with long-term pharmacological interventions. A biopsychosocial approach conceptualizing pain in SCD as the result of complex biological, psychological, and social factors could facilitate targeted behavioral interventions. Mindfulness is one procedure for management of pain in individuals with chronic pain/illness. The goal of the current project was to design and implement a bedside mindfulness intervention to help patients with SCD enhance self-efficacy of pain management and reduce distress. As part of a quality improvement project in SCD clinics in a large health system, we developed a bedside mindfulness intervention to be provided during infusion sessions for patients presenting for acute vaso-occlusive episodes (VOE). The approach to development and implementation involved engagement of professionals working directly with patients. Concept planning meetings with these professionals along with qualitative patient and provider feedback informed feasibility, design, and intervention application. During a quantitative phase, patients completed validated surveys items on acceptability. Interview data (N = 11) supported patient interest in mindfulness skills and highlighted a need for tailored, person-centered interventions and non-pharmacological treatment strategies. On quantitative items, participants (N = 14) liked the intervention and agreed mindfulness skills would help manage disease-related distress. Following the interventions, participants reported increased mindfulness (p =.005). While preliminary, these results provide support for the continued development of evidence-based, mindfulness-oriented services to help individuals with SCD manage pain and other psychological difficulties. Background and Objectives: We examined associations between sources of social influence (i.e. close friends, other underage people present) within specific settings with the number of drinks underage youth consumed. Methods: Data were collected through a cross-sectional survey with 422 underage youth in California (14 to 19 years old) who reported past-6-month alcohol use. Participants were asked to think about the last time they drank alcohol in the past 6 months at: restaurants, bars/nightclubs, own home, another's home, outdoors, and fraternities/sororities. Outcomes were the number of whole drinks participants drank the last time in each setting. Independent measures were social characteristics of these drinking events including number of people <21 years old present, number of close friends present, number of <21 years old who consumed alcohol, and number of close friends who consumed alcohol. We also assessed socio-demographics and accounted for the overall exposure to each setting in the past 6 months. Results: Using negative binomial regression models, the number of close friends was positively associated with number of drinks consumed at restaurants, another's home, and outdoors. The number of close friends drinking was positively associated with the number of drinks at restaurants, own home, another's home, and outdoors. Number of people <21 years old was positively associated with number of drinks at own home, and number of people <21 years old who consumed alcohol was positivity associated with number of drinks consumed at restaurants, own home, another's home, and outdoors. Objective: Growing research suggests that adversity experienced early in life can affect young children's development, with implications for health-related outcomes years later. This study explored long-term associations between early life adversity before age 5 (ELA) and later substance use outcomes, and racial and ethnic differences in associations. Method: Data are from children born 1984–2000 to female participants in the U.S. National Longitudinal Study of Youth-1979 cohort (N = 4582 children nested within 2683 mothers, with 1.4–1.8 outcome observations on average for each child in each age period). ELA at ages 0–4 was measured through home observations and maternal surveys, and included high parental conflict and maternal hazardous drinking/drug use (threat-related exposures), and low cognitive stimulation, low emotional support, and household poverty (deprivation-related exposures). Alcohol and cannabis use frequency were measured in biennial adolescent and young adult surveys through 2016. Analyses involved multilevel regression and interactions accounting for demographics, birth cohort, and family history of alcoholism. Results: ELA-threat exposure was associated with greater alcohol and cannabis use frequency in mid-adolescence and at ages 22–25 and 26–32 [exp( β ^ )'s = 1.05 to 1.13, p's < 0.05]. Associations of ELA-deprivation with substance use were either null or negative. There were pronounced racial and ethnic inequities in ELA exposure but no evidence of racial and ethnic differences in associations between ELA and later substance use. Conclusions: Broadening substance use research to focus on early childhood conditions appears warranted. Studies that identify intervening pathways to outcomes could inform early, targeted substance use prevention. Efforts are needed to eliminate racial and ethnic inequities in early life conditions. Care-experienced young people face significant levels of mental distress yet the nature and lived reality of this is poorly understood and undermines the degree to which professional caregivers can provide effective support. This is exacerbated by the lack of ‘voice’ and control care-experienced young people have as active producers of knowledge through research. Using a small-scale, knowledge exchange project, we sought to address these concerns by employing coproduction and participatory action research with care-experienced young people to articulate their experiences of mental distress and the kind of supports they need. Their insights were used to develop and co-deliver an online training programme to professional care givers. An arts-based methodology involving sound was utilised to enhance learning and emotional connection. The findings illustrate that: professional caregivers lack knowledge about mental health and need adequate training to support the mental health of care-experienced young people; communication and relationship-building skills are central to improving mental wellbeing; systemic change is also required; and hearing directly from young people in mental health training and amplifying their voice through the creative use of sound increases impact. These findings endorse creative, coproduced training as a valuable means of effecting the type of culture and systemic change required to significantly improve the support for care-experienced young people’s mental health and wellbeing. This paper investigates the interwoven history of hydrological studies and water infrastructure development on the Mekong floodplains. On the basis of an extensive literature review, archival work, and key informant interviews, we unravel the making of an expert-led understanding of the Mekong floodplains – from the detailed reports written by colonial engineers during the French protectorate in the late 19th century to the development of the first computational models, developed in the 1960s on punch-cards and in Fortran. We show how these studies not only reflect the objectives of successive powers and their relationships to local communities but also shaped the landscape and hydrology of the Mekong floodplains and continue to do so through a variety of water infrastructure development projects. This serves as a call to conceive of hydrological knowledge as contingent rather than as a neutral depiction of physical processes that exists independently from the conditions of its production. Ojective: Covid-19 pandemic has exerted deleterious effects on several aspect of mental health worldwide. The detrimental medical complications, the increased prevalence of morbidity and the rapid international spread of Covid-19 have resulted in urgent public health concerns and political measures across the world. This comparative, cross-sectional study aims to assess the changes that were established in sociodemographic, anthropometric and lifestyle parameters and several aspects of mental health of older adults due to Covid-19 pandemic by comparing the pre-Covid period with the post-Covid period. Methods: Qualified questionnaires were applied for assessing the prevalence of depression, quality of life, cognitive status, and Mediterranean Diet (MD) adherence, as well as sociodemographic, anthropometric and lifestyle parameters in 3388 older adults in the pre- and post-Covid period. Results: Covid-19 pandemic independently affected type of residence, smoking habits, BMI and WHR status, risk of depression, quality of life, cognitive status, physical activity levels, and MD adherence. Conclusions: Covid −19 pandemic has exerted persistent detrimental effects on daily quality of life and mental health of older adults in the post-Covid period. Future strategies and public policies should develop healthcare programs to provide psychological and nutritional counseling and support to older adults to minimize the detrimental effects of Covid pandemic. A paint frame is the vertical structure on which a canvas is hung to allow a scenic artist to paint over a very large area. The Citizens Theatre paint frames are one of the few original working examples in Britain. Samples taken from these frames are made up of multiple layers of paint which have accreted over 100 years as paint flicked off brushes, rollers, and latterly spray guns while the cloths were being painted. Cross-section microscopy, micro-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (μ-FTIR) mapping and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) were used to characterise these layers. Using the results in combination with archival research into scenic art suppliers/manufacturers, newspaper reviews of theatrical performances, and oral histories of scenic artists it has been possible for the first time to relate change in pigments and media within the paint layers with trends in scenic painting practice. Social media platforms are a double-edged sword, serving as sources of both critical information and harmful misinformation. This duality has sparked debates about their potential role in threatening democracy, boosting radical parties, and amplifying authoritarian and populist attitudes. While much research has focused on how misinformation and social media usage can influence voting for radical and populist parties, research on how diffuse and specific support for democracy are affected by the level of misinformation is more scarce. This study examines how satisfaction with democracy, democratic legitimacy, and adherence to liberal democratic principles are shaped by social media usage and citizens’ susceptibility to misinformation. Employing novel data from an online survey conducted in Germany in June 2021, we show that political information sources and misinformation exposure have a greater impact on perceptions of democratic functioning than on support for democracy as a political ideal. Furthermore, for citizens prone to believing misinformation, media consumption habits have no significant impact highlighting a critical blind spot in addressing democracy’s resilience in the digital age. AbstractThis article introduces the concept of Latinity as a central term in shaping debates about modernity, progress and cultural identities in Southern Europe and Latin America since the mid-nineteenth century. During this time, Latin countries struggled with their perceived decline in the face of rising global powers. In the midst of rapid globalization, technological advancements and shifting political dynamics, Latin intellectuals revisited their cultural identities and Latinity’s role in the modern world. This reflection, inherently transnational but adapted to local contexts, was often framed by a barbarism-civilization dichotomy rooted in ancient and premodern ideas of Hellenicity, Romanitas and Latinitas. These legacies evolved to shape pan-Latinism and various cultural, political and ideological projects. This introductory article provides a comprehensive overview of recent scholarship on Latinity and presents the key themes explored by the contributors throughout the remainder of this special issue. This study examined the efficacy of a novel manualized educator training as part of the Guggenheim Museum's Guggenheim for All (GFA) program to increase access to high-quality arts programming for neurodiverse individuals. Ten arts educators and 37 parents of autistic children aged 2–17 were recruited to participate in this study. Results demonstrated that the training program significantly improved educator fidelity in implementing evidence-based practices in virtual art classes for autistic individuals, as well as parent-reported sensitivity of the educator to their child's individual needs. While the manualized training encompassed several domains, the use of visual supports, in particular, showed the greatest improvement amongst educators following the training program. Overall, this study provides evidence for a manualized training program for arts educators that will increase the use of evidence-based practices in arts programing for neurodiverse populations. Background: The advent of biosimilars may increase the frequency of dose escalation with biologics in psoriasis. Objective: To explore the frequency and outcomes of dose escalation with adalimumab etanercept, and ustekinumab. Methods: Data were extracted from DermaReg-Pso, a psoriasis register in Stockholm, Sweden. The main exposure was treatment, and the main outcome was dose escalation. We describe outcomes with dose escalation by estimating drug survival and changes in the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI). Results: 554 patients had 946 treatment episodes with adalimumab, etanercept, or ustekinumab. The cumulative incidence of dose escalation was 4.1 per 100 treatment years. The Hazard Ratios (HRs) for dose escalation with ustekinumab vs adalimumab and ustekinumab vs etanercept were 1.93 (95% CI: 1.25-2.98), and 2.20 (95% CI: 1.42-3.41), respectively. After dose escalation, the HRs for treatment discontinuation with adalimumab and etanercept compared with ustekinumab were 3.10 (95% CI: 1.56-6.18) and 7.15 (95% CI: 3.96-12.94), respectively. PASI was higher after compared to before dose escalation for etanercept (p = 0.036), but not for adalimumab (p = 0.832) or ustekinumab (p = 0.300). Conclusions: Dose escalation was comparatively more frequent with ustekinumab than with adalimumab or etanercept; however, treatment discontinuation after dose escalation was more common with adalimumab and etanercept than ustekinumab. Human satellitess(HSats) are pericentric, tandemly repeating satellite DNA sequences in the human genome. While silent in normal cells, a subset of HSat2 noncoding RNA is expressed and accumulates in the nucleus of cancer cells. We developed a FISH-based approach for identification of the distribution of three subfamilies of HSat2 (A1, A2, B) sequences on individual human chromosomes. Further, using the HSat subfamily annotations in the T2T completed centromere satellite (CenSat) sequence, we isolated, defined and mapped differentially expressed sequence variants of nuclear-restricted HSat2 and HSat3 RNA from cancer cell lines and heat-shocked cells. We identified chromosome-specific and subfamily-specific expression of HSat2 and HSat3 and established a computational pipeline for differential expression analysis of tandemly repeated satellite sequences. Results suggest the differential expression of chromosome-specific HSat2 arrays in the human genome may underlie their accumulation in cancer cells and that specific HSat3 loci are upregulated upon heat shock. Objective: The motivation to leave a legacy for future generations and society's continuity is an important aspect of adult development. However, the shorter time horizon that comes with ageing might lead to prioritising more immediately rewarding goals than long-term society-beneficial (e.g., climate-proactive) goals. This study investigates the role of nature exposure and future time perspective, as well as their joint interplay in the context of social and ecological generativity across adulthood. Method: In total, 115 individuals aged 18–85 years (M = 38.10 years, SD = 16.53 years, age-range 18-85; 67% female) participated in an experience sampling study and reported their future time perspective and social and ecological generativity at the baseline, and nature exposure in their daily situations. Results: The results of the analyses using aggregated data set showed that nature exposure facilitates the concern for future generations and the environment in middle-aged and older (but not in younger) adults with shorter future time perspective. Conclusion: Nature exposure can be used to enhance motivation for societal involvement in middle and older adulthood, which in turn could contribute to the well-being and sustainability of future generations. This study examined inter- and intra-person level associations between stress and overwhelm and adaptive coping strategies used by college students during COVID-19. Participants were 55 college students (Mage = 23.31, SD = 4.49; 87% White, 85% Female), who completed a 21-day daily diary study. The common coping strategies endorsed were media use, relaxation techniques, and exercise. Variability among feelings of stress (ICC =.520) and overwhelm (ICC =.530) were similarly explained by between and within-person differences. Daily stress and overwhelm were positively associated with relaxation techniques, media, and total coping strategies. Further, daily stress was positively associated with connection with others to cope. At the between-person level, average stress was associated with avoidance strategies such as taking a break from news to cope. Objective: Elective induction of labor versus expectant management at 39 weeks gestation in low-risk nulliparous patients was shown in the ARRIVE randomized trial of over 6000 patients to decrease risks of cesarean delivery without significant change in the composite perinatal outcome. We aimed to pragmatically analyze the effect of offering elective induction of labor (eIOL) to all low-risk patients. Methods: Retrospective cohort study of low-risk nulliparous and multiparous patients delivering live, non-anomalous singletons at a single center at greater than or equal to 39 0/7 weeks gestational age. Those with prior or planned cesarean delivery, ruptured membranes, medical comorbidities, or contraindications to vaginal delivery were excluded. Patients were categorized as before (pre-eIOL; 1/2012–3/2014) or after (post-eIOL; 3/2019–12/2021) an institution-wide policy offering eIOL at 39 0/7 weeks. Births occurring April 2014 to December 2018 were allocated to a separate cohort (during-eIOL) given increased exposure to eIOL as our center recruited participants for the ARRIVE trial. The primary outcome was cesarean birth. Secondary outcomes included select maternal (e.g. chorioamnionitis, operative delivery, postpartum hemorrhage) and neonatal morbidities (e.g. birthweight, small- and large-for gestational age, hypoglycemia). Characteristics and outcomes were compared between the pre and during-eIOL, and pre and post-eIOL groups; adjusted OR (95% CI) were calculated using multivariable regression. Subgroup analysis by parity was planned. Results: Of 10,758 patients analyzed, 2521 (23.4%) were pre-eIOL, 5410 (50.3%) during-eIOL, and 2827 (26.3%) post-eIOL. Groups differed with respect to labor type, age, race/ethnicity, marital and payor status, and gestational age at care entry. Post-eIOL was associated with lower odds of cesarean compared to pre-eIOL (aOR 0.83 [95% CI 0.72–0.96]), which was even lower among those specifically undergoing labor induction (aOR 0.58 [0.48–0.70]. During-eIOL was also associated with lower odds of cesarean compared to pre-eIOL (aOR 0.79 [0.69–0.90]). Both during and post-eIOL groups were associated with higher odds of chorioamnionitis, operative delivery, and hemorrhage compared to pre-eIOL. However, only among post-eIOL were there fewer neonates weighing ≥4000 g, large-for-gestational age infants, and neonatal hypoglycemia compared to pre-IOL. Conclusion: An institutional policy offering eIOL at 39 0/7 to low-risk patients was associated with a lower cesarean birth rate, lower birthweights and lower neonatal hypoglycemia, and an increased risk of chorioamnionitis and hemorrhage. This study aimed at the investigation of the effect of colloidal magnetic particles on the magnetic separation of iron ore tailings (IOT). For this, the synthesis and characterization of bare iron, iron-dextran, and iron-oleate magnetic particles is reported. FTIR spectra confirmed that the synthesized particles were composed by magnetite. In general, the iron recovery was superior when magnetic particles were introduced, regardless of the addition of bare magnetic or functionalized iron particles. When iron-crosslinked-dextran particles were added into the pulp at the dosages of 0.5 and 1.0 g/t, an increase in recovery of about 7% took place at 0.34 T, but with a loss in grade of about 5%. Further cleaning stages are necessary to reduce the silica content. This study explores how teachers perceive the distinct educational needs of bilingual students and students with dyslexia in formal education. Bilingual students with a migrant background often face learning difficulties due to challenges in academic language skills. In the Greek context, it has been observed that teachers may misinterpret these difficulties as dyslexia, which results in bilingual students being expelled from mainstream classes and (mis)placed in specialised education classes intended for students with learning disorders. The current research investigates teachers' awareness and understanding of this phenomenon, specifically focusing on the tendency to misidentify language-related challenges in bilingual students as dyslexia. The study reports on 123 secondary school teachers' beliefs and attitudes regarding the relationship between bilingualism and dyslexia. Based on our findings, the teachers generally refer bilingual students with a migrant background to special education settings without proper substantiation because of their own inefficiency in handling bilingualism in the classroom. During the 1960s, the scope of field archaeology in the Middle East transformed dramatically, driven by foreign aid funded dam-led regional development projects. The paradigm of river-basin salvage, intimately connected to dam projects first developed in the US Southeast during the Great Depression, was exported alongside the dam-building expertise, but with unanticipated results. Rather than creating a worldwide system of emergency archaeology to mitigate the threats posed to heritage by the global project of modernization, the Decade of Development resulted in archaeologists becoming consultants in irrigation, education, and finance – key prerequisites to the emergence of today's dominant modalities of the linkage between archaeology and development centred on regulatory compliance fieldwork and the encouragement of cultural tourism. Stone palettes are a unique artifact of Hohokam culture. Discovery of lead minerals on these palettes dates back to the 1930s, however there has been little chemical analysis of these minerals. This research presents the result of a multi-analytical survey on the accretions of nearly 200 palettes to develop a better understanding of occurrence of lead minerals and isotopic characterization to address questions of sourcing, procurement and mineral exchange. We found consistent association of lead minerals regardless of context, region, and time period, suggesting lead minerals are related to a primary use of palettes. We also propose an alternate theory to one potential function of palettes – that they were used to prepare paint applied to the body or other materials that did not survive in the archaeological record. Debates on provisioning systems have become more widespread in recent years. Most of these discussions, however, have centered on the monetized economy. While they have elaborated on actors and institutions in the monetized economy, they tend to ignore the foundational role of unpaid provisioning processes. This article contributes to provisioning systems scholarship by foregrounding this indispensable yet invisibilized foundation of production, distribution, and consumption. In doing so, we combine different approaches on provisioning systems in social ecology, political ecology, and political economy with chronologically older feminist economics debates on social provisioning to arrive at an ecofeminist political economy conceptualization of social-ecological provisioning. We elaborate on this conceptualization by drawing upon the example of food provisioning, thereby showing that people provision for themselves, their families, and their communities through closely interlinked paid and unpaid provisioning practices. Only by acknowledging the central role of actors and institutions in the non-monetized economy and by taking an intersectional approach to the questions of who provides and who is provided for can a more holistic picture of food provisioning be drawn. In the last part of the article, we discuss ecofeminist strategies that strengthen non-monetized social-ecological provisioning without monetizing it, thereby questioning the arbitrariness of what is (un-/under-)paid in capitalist economies. Objective: To understand factors associated with missed academic time after concussion to improve support for patients. Our goal was to assess patient-specific predictors of total school time lost after pediatric/adolescent concussion. Study Design: We performed a prospective cohort study of children and adolescents (8–18 years of age) seen within 14 days of concussion from seven pediatric medical centers across the United States. We collected outcomes via the Concussion Learning Assessment & School Survey (CLASS) and constructed a multivariable predictive model evaluating patient factors associated with school time loss. Results: 167 patients participated (mean age = 14.5 ± 2.2 years; 46% female). Patients were assessed initially at 5.0 ± 3.0 days post-injury and had a final follow-up assessment 24.5 ± 20.0 days post-concussion. Participants missed a median of 2 days of school (IQR = 0.5–4), and 21% reported their grades dropped after concussion. Higher initial symptom severity rating (β = 0.06, 95% CI = 0.03–0.08, p < 0.001) and perception of grades dropping after concussion (β = 1.37, 95% CI = 0.28–2.45, p = 0.01) were significantly associated with more days of school time missed after concussion. Those who reported their grades dropping reported missing significantly more school (mean = 5.0, SD = 4.7 days missed of school) than those who reported their grades did not drop (mean = 2.2, SD = 2.6 days missed of school; p < 0.001; Cohen's d = 0.87). Conclusions: Children and adolescents reported missing a median of 2 days of school following concussion, and more missed school time after a concussion was associated with more severe concussion symptoms and perception of grades dropping. During the last decades, several students who are deaf or hard of hearing (SDHH) attend higher education institutions. The level of lecturers' awareness regarding accessible practices and the provision of such practices or accommodations during lectures play a major role in students' access. The purpose of this study was to investigate the educational practices and accommodations that lecturers used during lectures to enhance academic access to SDHH. In total, 51 lecturers were interviewed. The interviews were analysed using a thematic analysis and a three-stage coding procedure. Lecturers adopted various practices and accommodations that enhanced the access of SDHH during lectures, such as using visual educational tools, explaining difficult terms, monitoring comprehension, maintaining visual contact, repeating and providing environmental accommodations. Lecturers pointed out the importance of accessible educational practices for all students. The study indicates the need to make lecturers aware of the use of flexible teaching approaches and accommodations that benefit SDHH and other students promoting a culture of inclusion. Small-scale fisheries provide nutrients to hundreds of millions of people worldwide, with yields dependent on the condition of marine habitats such as coral reefs. Small-scale fisheries are a particularly important food source in societies with nutrient deficiencies and where unhealthy food alternatives are widely available. Using data from coral reef surveys around two islands in French Polynesia (Moorea and Raiatea), we show how the availability of nutrients to fisheries changed in relation to the condition of coral habitat. Fish biomass and nutrient availability were highest when coral cover was low around both islands, driven predominantly by abundant herbivorous reef fish. We also investigated the importance of fish in people's diets, to determine if fish consumption was aligned with available fisheries resources on local reefs and if nutrient intakes from fish could be explained by people's socioeconomic background. People ate a higher diversity of reef fish in Raiatea, however nutrient intakes from fish were higher in Moorea. Most people ate more fish than meat on both islands, however fish consumption declined over generations. People from fishing households had higher nutrient intakes from reef and pelagic fish, and people from farming households had higher intakes from reef fish. Preference for eating reef fish over pelagic fish was also associated with higher total nutrient intakes. Promoting traditional diets rich in fish could be key to meeting people's nutritional needs in French Polynesia while reducing diet-related health issues linked to the overconsumption of fat. Brodalumab, a human monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin-17 receptor A (IL-17RA), is approved in the US and EU for treatment of adults with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. Although brodalumab has demonstrated efficacy and safety vs placebo in clinical trials of patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA), real-world evidence is needed to evaluate long-term effectiveness and safety of brodalumab in routine care. This interim analysis of the German Psoriasis Registry PsoBest examined patient profiles, treatment outcomes, and drug survival of first-time use of brodalumab for 12 months in adult patients with moderate-to-severe plaque-type psoriasis (with and without PsA) (data cutoff: June 30, 2021). Clinician and patient-reported outcomes of the total cohort (n = 227; PsA, n = 38) indicated a rapid response to brodalumab treatment within the first 3 months, which was maintained up to 12 months. The overall one-year drug survival rate was 76.2%, the mean time to discontinuation was 8.3 months. Reasons for discontinuation were mainly loss/lack of effectiveness, followed by adverse events, contraindication and skin clearance. In sum, brodalumab demonstrated rapid and sustained effectiveness and was well-tolerated over 12 months in German patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis and PsA in a real-world setting. Objective: SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy has been linked with an increased risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). The aim of this study was to examine how both trimester and severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection impact HDP. Methods: We conducted a cohort study of SARS-CoV-2-infected individuals during pregnancy (n = 205) and examined the association between trimester and severity of infection with incidence of HDP using modified Poisson regression models to calculate risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). We stratified the analysis of trimester by severity to understand the role of timing of infection among those with similar symptomatology and also examined timing of infection as a continuous variable. Results: Compared to a reference cohort from 2018, SARS-CoV-2 infection did not largely increase the risk of HDP (RR: 1.17; CI:0.90, 1.51), but a non-statistically significant higher risk of preeclampsia was observed (RR: 1.33; CI:0.89, 1.98), in our small sample. Among the SARS-CoV-2 cohort, severity was linked with risk of HDP, with infections requiring hospitalization increasing the risk of HDP compared to asymptomatic/mild infections. Trimester of infection was not associated with risk of HDP, but a slight decline in the risk of HDP was observed with later gestational week of infection. Among patients with asymptomatic or mild symptoms, SARS-CoV-2 in the first trimester conferred a higher risk of HDP compared to the third trimester (RR: 1.70; CI:0.77, 3.77), although estimates were imprecise. Action under the Montreal Protocol has contributed to climate change mitigation for almost 35 years. The phase-out of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) has set the ozone layer on a path to recovery, protecting the world's biosphere from harmful ultraviolet radiation. The 2016 Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol is expected to avoid 5.6–8.7 gigatonnes of carbon-dioxide equivalent (GtCO2e) emissions of hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) per year by 2100, reducing the impact of HFCs on global average warming by up to 0.4°C. Despite its successes, unexpected emissions of phased out ODS – notably the chlorofluorocarbon, CFC-11 - have brought attention to shortcomings in the Protocol's monitoring, reporting, verification and enforcement (MRV+E) which must be addressed to guarantee its controls are sustained. Meanwhile, additional significant mitigation could be achieved by accelerating the phase-down of HFCs under the Kigali Amendment, by tackling ODS and HFC emissions from leaking banks of equipment and products and by controlling feedstocks, which are not subject to Montreal Protocol phase-out controls. Recent scientific papers have linked almost 870 million tCO2 per year of greenhouse gases (GHG) and ODS to fluorochemical industrial processes and illegal fluorochemical production. Expanding the scope of the Montreal Protocol to address nitrous oxide (N2O), itself an ODS and GHG, would also contribute substantial ozone and climate benefits. This perspective essay discusses new and strengthened policy measures that governments can consider under the Montreal Protocol in order to maximize early, cost-effective reductions in emissions of non-CO2 greenhouse gases and ensure future implementation. The effect of late-follicular phase progesterone elevation (LFPE) during ovarian stimulation on reproductive outcomes in ART treatment remains controversial, but recent studies indicate lower pregnancy rates with rising progesterone levels. This study aims to investigate the prevalence of late-follicular phase progesterone elevation (LFPE) and possible impact on ongoing pregnancy rate after fresh or frozen blastocyst transfer in a sub-study setting of a randomised controlled trial. A total of 288 women were included (n=137 and n=151 in the fresh transfer and freeze-all group, respectively). Among these 11(3.8%) had a progesterone level ≥1.5 ng/ml, and 20(6.9%) had a progesterone level ≥1.2 ng/ml on trigger day. Spline regression analysis showed no significant effect of late follicular phase progesterone levels on ongoing pregnancy. In the multivariate regression analysis (n = 312) only age, but not progesterone level on trigger day was significantly associated with ongoing pregnancy. In conclusion, in a clinical setting with moderate gonadotrophin stimulation and well-defined trigger and fresh transfer cancellation criteria, the prevalence of women with LFPE ≥1.5 ng/ml was low and did not indicate the clinical value of routine measurement of progesterone in the late follicular phase. Filtering face piece (FFP) masks according to EN 149 Respiratory protective devices – Filtering half masks to protect against particles – Requirements, testing, marking are essential components of personal protective equipment against biological agents from an occupational health and hospital hygiene perspective. Therefore, shortages due to increased demand or supply bottlenecks can lead to staff threats due to the risk of infection. To determine whether FFP masks could be made reusable in a hospital setting, a thermal reprocessing concept (steam at 105 °C with a holding phase of 10 min) was evaluated in a bed reprocessing chamber. The results indicate that it is logistically possible to establish a reprocessing concept. Of 267 reprocessed masks, 48 were rejected by inspection because of defect strapping, trapped hair, misfolding, and missing lot number or deformation, and 22 masks were rejected by bacteriological examination because of contamination > 10 CFU of total bacteria per 25 cm2 or the presence of Staphylococcus aureus. Two selected mask models maintained the expected mask performance equivalent to the FFP2 standard after reprocessing. Thermal reprocessing resulted in a virucidal effect. The results show that reprocessing of FFP masks in hospitals is possible. However, the success of reprocessing depends on the type of mask used. This study identified a suitable mask type for which the reported method is bactericidal and virucidal without impairing mask performance. The reported method required the use of a stationary hospital bed reprocessing chamber (sanitizing washer), so it cannot be used everywhere. Land use/land cover (LULC) change, caused by human activities, can strongly affect wildlife species and their habitats. Yet, human impacts onto lakes and associated indicator bird species such as the lesser flamingos (Phoeniconaias minor) have rarely been investigated. We used remote sensing images from 1989 to 2019, with additional interviews and focus group discussions to investigate how LULC change and agricultural activities adjacent to the Momella lakes, Tanzania, have affected the flamingo habitat. Agricultural areas increased strongly over time, and most respondents earned their living through crop farming. The use of synthetic fertilizers, and limited knowledge about fertilizer effects on environmental health, were evident. We highlight that LULC data combined with socio-economic assessments is essential to understanding the dynamics and impacts of human activities on wildlife. We recommend training for sustainable farming practices around areas of high conservation values and integrating land use changes and socio-economic dynamics into conservation efforts. Objective: Fetal cardiac anomalies are the most commonly diagnosed structural anomalies. In these cases, Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists are tasked with counseling patients on a spectrum of diagnoses as well as their prognostic implications. A recent study of pediatric cardiologists demonstrated that personal beliefs regarding termination impact the counseling provided to patients. Our objective was to study whether the personal beliefs of MFMs impact counseling of patients with severe fetal cardiac anomalies and to compare these providers to their cardiology counterparts. Methods: We conducted an anonymous cross-sectional survey of MFMs in New England that assessed personal beliefs and counseling practices when diagnosing hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). We subsequently compared these providers to the previously surveyed cardiologists. Results: A total of 34 respondents representing a broad spectrum of age and experience across several states in New England were analyzed. When presented with the statement "some life is always better than no life at all," 79% (n = 27) of respondents disagreed and all respondents (n = 34) offered termination, palliative care, and treatment options when counseling patients with HLHS. Additionally, while 74% (n = 25) of providers would personally support a decision to terminate a pregnancy with HLHS, 94% (n = 32) would professionally support the decision to pursue termination. MFMs and cardiologists differed in their responses to "some life is better than no life" and the belief that termination should be offered, though differences did not reach statistical significance. However, with respect to the providers' personal and professional support of the decision to terminate the pregnancy, the groups of respondents varied significantly in their level of support, both professionally and personally with fewer cardiologists supporting this decision. Conclusion: When diagnosing a severe and potentially fatal congenital cardiac anomaly, counseling by MFMs was largely unaffected by personal beliefs regarding termination of pregnancy. While this is consistent with previously published data on counseling practices among pediatric cardiology specialists, some important differences between the specialties were seen. Immunotherapy has revolutionized the treatment of cancers. Reinvigorating lymphocytes with checkpoint blockade has become a cornerstone of immunotherapy for multiple tumor types, but the treatment of glioblastoma has not yet shown clinical efficacy. A major hurdle to treat GBM with checkpoint blockade is the high degree of myeloid-mediated immunosuppression in brain tumors that limits CD8 T-cell activity. A potential strategy to improve anti-tumor efficacy against glioma is to use myeloid-modulating agents to target immunosuppressive cells, such as myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in the tumor microenvironment. We found that the co-inhibition of the chemokine receptors CCR2 and CCR5 in murine model of glioma improves the survival and synergizes robustly with anti-PD-1 therapy. Moreover, the treatment specifically reduced the infiltration of monocytic-MDSCs (M-MDSCs) into brain tumors and increased lymphocyte abundance and cytokine secretion by tumor-infiltrating CD8 T cells. The depletion of T-cell subsets and myeloid cells abrogated the effects of CCR2 and CCR5 blockade, indicating that while broad depletion of myeloid cells does not improve survival, specific reduction in the infiltration of immunosuppressive myeloid cells, such as M-MDSCs, can boost the anti-tumor immune response of lymphocytes. Objectives: It is widely known that sleep disorders are a common problem among older persons. Few reviews have described current knowledge about the holistic concept of sleep health of community-dwelling older people. Aim: This study aimed to describe the current state of knowledge and identify research gaps concerning sleep health among community-dwelling older persons. Method: We conducted a scoping review. Searches were conducted in three databases (Medline, CINAHL, and PsycINFO) to identify scientific articles including outcomes with all five sleep health dimensions (sleep duration, sleep continuity, timing, wakefulness/daytime sleepiness, and sleep quality) among community-dwelling older persons aged ≥65years. Eight articles were included from a total of 1826 hits, with sample sizes between 1413 and 6485. Results: The sleep health outcomes of community-dwelling older adults differed between the sexes. Older persons with at least two or more poor sleep health dimensions might have increased risk for depression, higher healthcare costs and mortality, while self-reported better sleep health might be associated with lower odds of frailty. Conclusion: Future research is needed to confirm the findings by investigating the multidimensional concept of sleep health in a general older population. The identified knowledge gaps are how persons ≥80 years' experience their sleep health, and how sleep medicine is prescribed to treat sleep problems in persons ≥80 years in different care contexts.
