Kratom has caught the attention of governments, policymakers, and academicians due to its unique characteristics. This paper explores the scholarly works related to the different aspects of Kratom to elucidate its research progress and identify future research agendas. We reviewed existing publications on Kratom using a bibliometric methodology. By analyzing 431 scientific publications, we identified publication sources, document analysis, countries analysis, and research keywords, which helped us understand the research locus on Kratom. After reviewing the publications, we discovered significant disagreements in categorizing and defining Kratom amongst authors based on their nationalities. We also showed the knowledge structure of existing publications via thematic analysis, illustrating that the studies focused on the opioid nature of Kratom. Also, drug abuse-related issues evolved as the motor theme of research, while other aspects are prevalent as niche or emerging research themes. This paper contributes to the literature by providing a broad idea of existing literature and offering a comprehensive outlook on Kratom, which could be helpful for policy formulation in the future. The complete chloroplast (cp) genome of Sparganium angustifolium was sequenced and annotated in the present study. The circular genome is 161,720 bp in length and exhibits a typical quadripartite structure with a large single-copy (LSC, 88,981 bp) and small single-copy (SSC, 18,731 bp) regions, separated by a pair of inverted repeats (IRs, 27,004 bp). The cp genome contains 114 unique genes, including 80 protein-coding, 30 tRNA, and four rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis of Typhaceae strongly supported the monophyly of Sparganium and resolved two clades that represented newly revised two subgenera. The characterization of indoor (a naturally ventilated office) and outdoor (adjacent courtyard) metals in PM2.5during a winter period in Xi'an, China were carried out. The results indicated that the average mass concentrations of PM2.5in indoor and outdoor environments all exceeded the daily average limit of 75 µg m–3set by the Chinese government. The dominant metals in PM2.5were Ca, Al, Zn, Mg, Fe, and Pb in both indoor and outdoor air. Concentration of As was much higher than the standard of 6 ng m–3issued by the government. Enrichment factor analysis showed that anthropogenic emissions might be the primary sources of As, Cd, Pb, and Zn, while crust was the main origin of Co. A majority of indoor-to-outdoor concentration ratios of metal were lower than 1 indicating mostly the contribution of outdoor sources rather than indoor ones. As and Cr in both indoor and outdoor air posed the highest noncarcinogenic and carcinogenic risks, respectively. The noncarcinogenic and carcinogenic risks were 2.74 and 2.54 × 10−4indoor and 4.04 and 3.87 × 10−4outdoor, which suggested that possible adverse health effects should be of concern. Sarcopenia, the loss of muscle mass and strength during normal aging, involves coordinate changes in skeletal myofibers and the cells that contact them, including satellite cells and motor neurons. Here we show that the protein Ofucosyltransferase 1 gene (Pofut1), which encodes a glycosyltransferase required for NotchR-mediated cell-cell signaling, has reduced expression in aging skeletal muscle. Moreover, premature postnatal deletion of Pofut1 in skeletal myofibers can induce aging-related phenotypes in cis within skeletal myofibers and in trans within satellite cells and within motor neurons via the neuromuscular junction. Changed phenotypes include reduced skeletal muscle size and strength, decreased myofiber size, increased slow fiber (type 1) density, increased muscle degeneration and regeneration in aged muscles, decreased satellite cell self-renewal and regenerative potential, and increased neuromuscular fragmentation and occasional denervation. Pofut1 deletion in skeletal myofibers reduced NotchR signaling in young adult muscles, but this effect was lost with age. Increasing muscle NotchR signaling also reduced muscle size. Gene expression studies point to regulation of cell cycle genes, muscle myosins, NotchR and Wnt pathway genes, and connective tissue growth factor by Pofut1 in skeletal muscle, with additional effects on α dystroglycan glycosylation. The circular genome is 160,391 bp in length and exhibits a typical quadripartite structure with a large single-copy (LSC, 87,660 bp) and small single-copy (SSC, 18,721 bp) regions, separated by a pair of inverted repeats (IRs, 27,005 bp). The cp genome contains 113 unique genes, including 79 protein-coding, 30 tRNA, and four rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis within the Poales showed that Sparganium is monophyletic and most closely related to Typha. Within Sparganium, S. glomeratum is sister to the clade of S. stoloniferum and S. euricarpum. T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemias (T-ALLs) are clonal lymphoid malignancies with a poor prognosis, and still a lack of effective treatment. Here we examined the interactions between the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor rapamycin and idarubicin (IDA) in a series of human T-ALL cell lines Molt-4, Jurkat, CCRF-CEM and CEM/C1. Co-exposure of cells to rapamycin and IDA synergistically induced T-ALL cell growth inhibition and apoptosis mediated by caspase activation via the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway and extrinsic pathway. Combined treatment with rapamycin and IDA down-regulated Bcl-2 and Mcl-1, and inhibited the activation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/mTOR and extracellular signal-related kinase (ERK). They also played synergistic pro-apoptotic roles in the drug-resistant microenvironment simulated by mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) as a feeder layer. In addition, MSCs protected T-ALL cells from IDA cytotoxicity by up-regulating ERK phosphorylation, while rapamycin efficiently reversed this protective effect. Taken together, we confirm the synergistic antitumor effects of rapamycin and IDA, and provide an insight into the potential future clinical applications of combined rapamycin-IDA regimens for treating T-cell malignancies. Two complete chloroplast genomes of Hippuris vulgaris (H. vulgaris_A and H. vulgaris_B), representing two distinct clades in China, were sequenced and assembled in this study. The circular genomes were 152,763 and 152,713 bp in length and exhibit a typical quadripartite structure of the large single-copy (LSC, 82,983/82,949 bp) and small single-copy (SSC, 18,294/18,278 bp) regions, separated by a pair of inverted repeats (IRs, both 25,743 bp). Both two cp genomes identically contain 133 genes, including 88 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA, and eight rRNA genes. A novel Levextrel resin containing N,N,N',N'-tetraisobutyl diglycolamide (TiBDGA) was synthesized by suspension polymerization of styrene and divinylbenzene and its performance for separation of Sr(II) from Rb(I) was investigated. The effects of crosslink degree, stirring speed, and the ratio of porogenic-agents on the resin synthesized were examined. The optimum TiBDGA resin with 40 wt.% divinylbenzene as cross linking agent and 20 wt.% of n-octanol as porogenic-agents provided excellent adsorption capacity of 22.5 mg/g. The distribution coefficient (Kd) of Sr(II) in HNO3 media onto the resin depended heavily on the acidity in the aqueous solution. The maximum Kd for Sr(II) (7300 mL/g) was observed when the HNO3 concentration in aqueous phase reached 2 mol/L. The difference in the Sr(II) and Rb(I) distribution coefficients of several orders of magnitude implied that 89Sr may be separated from 86Rb with a radionuclide purity greater than 99%. As a contribution to the fine use of wattle tannin, four fractions, purified tannin (Tp), ether extracts (Te), ethyl acetate extracts (Ta) and water fraction (Tw), were obtained by the methods of precipitation and liquid–liquid extraction of commercial wattle tannin. The number average molecular weights ( M n ) of Tp, Te, Ta and Tw were determined as 2660, 440, 980 and 2050  Da, respectively. The biological activities including protein precipitation, enzyme inhibition and antibacterial potency of each fraction were studied and compared. The results indicated that the molecular weight of each fraction is directly associated with its biological activities. The fraction of Tw showed the strongest capacity to precipitate protein and Ta showed the strongest capacity to inhibit enzyme activities, while Ta and Te showed better antibacterial potency.
