Significant attention has been paid to improve the helical twisting power (β) and Δβ between the two different isomers of axially chiral azobenzene dopants in cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs); however, the correlations between the vales (β and Δβ) with the molecular structures as well as photoisomerisation kinetics are far from clear. In this study, a series of binaphthyl-azobenzene cyclic dopants R1–R3 with different lengths of alkoxy chain was synthesised, which exhibited photochemically reversible trans–cis isomerisation in both organic solvents and liquid crystal hosts. When doping into a nematic liquid crystal, dopant R2 with one linking alkoxy group showed the highest values of β and Δβ. The results revealed that the β value was related to the dihedral angle between two naphthyl planes and the miscibility between the dopants and the host molecule. Moreover, Δβ was also depended on the photoisomerisation quantum yields. With increasing length of alkoxyl chain, the photoisomerisation rate constant of dopants increased upon ultraviolet irradiation and decreased for the reverse process upon visible light irradiation either in isotropic acetonitrile or in CLCs. There are multiple theories for the causal relation between stock turnover and expected return. The risk theory argues that stocks with high turnover generally have high information uncertainty, and thus high subsequent returns are required to compensate for the increased risk. By contrast, the theory of heterogeneous beliefs considers that high-turnover stocks have high speculative values and tend to be overpriced. We find that the information contained in stock turnover is multidimensional and controlling time horizons and arbitrage cost contributes to the reconciliation of the theories of risk compensation and heterogeneous beliefs. Our result shows that expected return is positively correlated with short-term turnover, and negatively correlated with long-term one. The premium on short-term turnover is consistent with the explanations based on transaction cost and liquidity risk. The premium on long-term turnover is much more pronounced among stocks with high arbitrage cost and can be largely explained by the mispricing theory and heterogeneous beliefs. The article discusses the B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia with isolated abnormality of the CEBPG gene in a 64-year-old man presented with thrombocytopenia, mild anemia and circulating blasts. Tests given to the patient include complete blood count and white blood cell count, bone marrow aspirate and biopsy which showed hypercellularity with diffuse infiltrate of immature cells. Treatment include standard acute lymphoblastic leukemia protocol.

This article reports on the optical properties of Sm3+-activated GdB3O6phosphors based on the measurement of their photoluminescence spectra and luminescence decay curves. Energy transfer from Gd3+to Sm3+and the concentration quenching of the Sm3+ion emission are investigated. From the photoluminescence spectra and decay curves, the energy transfer from Gd3+to Sm3+is confirmed. The concentration quenching of the Sm3+ion emission can be ascribed to resonant cross-relaxation. The interaction between the Sm3+ions is derived of the electric dipole–dipole type through fitting the data with the Inokuti-Hirayama model. The critical distances and energy transfer microparameter for the transfer processes are given. The decay curves of Sm3+4G5/2level exhibiting a buildup and decay process also confirm the energy transfer from Gd3+to Sm3+and between Sm3+ions. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The article presents a case study of a 60-year-old man with asymptomatic lymphocytosis without a history of B symptoms. It states that a bone marrow biopsy was submitted for assessment of cytogenetics, immunophenotype, and morphology and revealed small mature lymphocytes, while there was no evidence of splenic or lymph node involvement when a whole-body fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography was performed. It mentions the role of the MYC oncogene in human cancers.
