Sales force turnover has been identified as one of the top issues in sales organizations by sales researchers and practitioners. The present research examines the role of two under-investigated factors: sales role focus (i.e., hunting focus versus farming focus), and salespeople's career aspirations in understanding turnover. Analysis of survey data from 263 salespeople showed support for sales role focus as a factor associated with salespeople's turnover intention and career aspirations, and the influence of salespeople's age on the supported relationship. The current research extends the sales literature by demonstrating how salespeople's age moderates the relationship between sales role focus and turnover intention through career aspirations. Higher values have been reported when keeping interaural phase differences fixed and varying the frequency adaptively, as in the adaptive-frequency TFS test [TFS-AF, Füllgrabe et al., Int J Audiol, 56, 926–935]. The probability of TFS-AF thresholds exceeding 1400 Hz, and the influence of age and hearing threshold were assessed.TFS-AF thresholds from 277 participants across five studies were re-analysed as a function of Age, low-frequency pure-tone average threshold (PTL; 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz), and high-frequency pure-tone average threshold (PTH; 6000 and 8000 Hz). The 95% confidence intervals on TFS-AF thresholds were computed. The effects of Age and Hearing threshold on the TFS-AF thresholds were assessed using a multiple-regression model.The bootstrapped 95% confidence interval for this dataset around the median was 1030 to 1122 Hz, similar to that predicted by Monte Carlo simulation. This range was affected by Age and PTL. Regression modelling showed that the occurrence rate of TFS-AF thresholds exceeding 1400 Hz increased with younger Age and better PTL.TFS-AF thresholds exceeding 1400 Hz are more likely for lower ages and better hearing thresholds. AbstractIntroductionCurrent electroencephalogram (EEG) indices for monitoring the depth of anesthesia have not been adjusted for age. This study aims to identify the most suitable EEG indices for monitoring anesthesia depth across different age groups.MethodIn here, we conducted a prospective observational trial to observe whether different EEG features in different age groups can detect anesthesia depth and compare their performance.ResultsIn Group 1, absolute θ had the highest prediction probability (Pk) value (0.78 ± 0.07), while relative γ had the lowest relative coefficient of variation (CV) value in states 1 (0.160), 2 (0.153), 3 (0.214), and 4 (0.144). In Group 2, absolute θ had the highest Pk value (0.81 ± 0.09), and relative γ had the lowest CV value in states 1 (0.159), 2 (0.178), 3 (0.140), and 4 (0.095). In Group 3, absolute δ had the highest Pk value (0.79 ± 0.08), with absolute slow wave having the lowest CV value in states 1 (0.196), 2 (0.258), 3 (0.295), and 4 (0.181). This article examined the attitudes of Hungarian Jews towards Israel using two databases that were collected in 1999 and 2017 in a quasi-representative sample. The findings indicate that 1) Perception of Israel’s central role depends on age and the level of Jewish affiliation; 2) One’s perception of Israel’s centrality for diasporic life and one’s feeling of belonging to Israel do not necessarily coincide; and 3) The younger generations and the more secularised Jews are more critical of Israeli policies. Common carp, Cyprinus carpio, is a global invasive species illegally introduced into the Groenvlei system, South Africa, in the 1990s for recreational angling. To manage this population effectively, basic information is needed on its biology including growth and reproduction. This study examined the growth trends of C. carpio using otolith growth zone deposition rates which were validated using a chemical mark–recapture experiment (n = 16). From a total of 140 C. carpio, length-at-age was best described using the Von Bertalanffy growth model for males and females. The average lengths-at-50% maturity were estimated at 314 mm FL (males) and 262 mm FL (females). Compared with other South African C. carpio populations, the Groenvlei population is relatively fast growing and long lived, with the oldest female aged 20 years and the oldest male aged 18 years, likely facilitated by relatively favourable environmental conditions at Groenvlei. Data from this study provide a baseline at the commencement of C. carpio management interventions at Groenvlei and an opportunity to monitor changes in population dynamics facilitated by these efforts. We cross-sectionally evaluated clinical characteristics at the initial visit and genotyped CFH rs800292 and rs1329428 for all patients using TaqMan technology.As generations decreased, the proportion of males, subfoveal choroidal thickness, and prevalence of fibrin significantly increased (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, and p = 0.012, respectively), and the best-corrected visual acuity improved (p < 0.001); in contrast, the prevalence of pachydrusen significantly decreased (p < 0.001). Research on the resolution of ambiguous null and overt subject pronouns in child speakers of null subject languages has found that school-aged children do not exhibit robust preference for either subject or object referents, further suggesting that the operations underlying anaphora processing are still in development and have not yet attained adult-like status even at age 11. In addition to school-aged children, sensitivity to the properties of null and overt subject pronouns in early childhood remains to a large extent underexplored. The current study has investigated ambiguous null and overt pronoun resolution preferences in a group of 38 Greek-speaking children aged 4;0 to 5;9 and a group of monolingual adults. The study used a picture verification task that examined participants’ preferences for subject, object, and extra-sentential referents of null and overt pronouns. The children’s lexical abilities were also assessed through an expressive vocabulary task. According to the results, children did not show a strong preference for either subject or object referents, which were preferred at equally low rates across both null and overt pronoun trials. However, there was strong preference for the extra-sentential referent that seemed to be attenuated with increase in the children’s chronological age and vocabulary skills. The current study contributes to the discussion regarding the instability in children’s pronoun processing system and the way it is affected by maturation and language ability. Our findings show that sensitivity to the discourse constraints regulating the comprehension of null and overt subject pronouns has not yet been attained in preschool-aged children. AbstractSocial conformity occurs when individuals forego their personal judgements to agree with opposing judgements of a group majority. While conformity was initially observed and investigated in physical groups, recently there has been an increasing interest to understand dynamics of this phenomenon in online group settings. This survey summarises 36 years of social conformity literature (1988–2023) and reviews its occurrences, positive and negative outcomes, and contextual and personal determinants in online groups. By doing so, we identify gaps in the conformity literature that require further investigation, discuss common challenges and inform the design of future online conformity studies. AbstractBackground: Electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) use is prevalent in the United States, especially among youth and young adults. It is important to monitor current ENDS use and identify at-risk groups, particularly among tobacco naïve individuals. Methods: Using data from the 2021 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, we examined the prevalence of past 30-day nicotine/tobacco ENDS use and correlates, stratified by age. Results: The prevalence of past 30-day ENDS use was as follows: ages 12-17 (5.0%), ages 18-20 (13.5%), ages 21-25 (14.6%), ages 26-34 (7.2%), and ages ≥35 (2.5%). Among youth ages 12-17, female respondents were more likely to report past 30-day ENDS use compared to male respondents (aOR = 1.41, 95% CI = 1.01-1.97). Among all adult age groups, current cigarette smoking status was associated with an increased likelihood of current ENDS use, versus never smoking. Among all age groups, those reporting non-Hispanic Black, non-Hispanic Other, and Hispanic race/ethnicity had a decreased likelihood of past 30-day ENDS use versus non-Hispanic White respondents, while past-year drug/alcohol use disorder, versus no use disorder, was associated with an increased likelihood of past 30-day ENDS use. Conclusions: ENDS use was most prevalent among young adults and least prevalent among persons ages ≥35. Most youth who reported ENDS use also reported never smoking cigarettes—compared to adults who reported ENDS use, who primarily reported current or former cigarette smoking. Our findings—which have identified characteristics of those most likely to use ENDS products—have the potential to inform screening and targeted intervention efforts aimed at reducing ENDS use. \nLAY SUMMARYAcademic writing is a complex task involving microstructure (linguistic-level) and macrostructure (coherence structure) indices. Our goal was to examine the contribution of an academic writing intervention programme among students with intellectual disability at the microstructure and macrostructure levels while characterising the learning curves. Six students with mild intellectual disability studying for a BA (MCA = 30.43, MIQ = 69.17) participated in a spiral intervention programme of 32 lessons focusing on improving paragraph complexity and text structure measured at five time-points. Microstructure improvement in number of words, sentences, paragraphs, words per paragraph, lexical density, adjectives along with macrostructure improvement in text-paragraph structure, global-local linkage were found. A rapid increase in macrostructure indices was observed between the first and second testing points, after which a ceiling effect was reached. Concurrently, microstructure indices demonstrated a slower, more gradual learning curve throughout the intervention period. The discussion will focus on the improvement patterns in microstructure–macrostructure indices and the various learning curves observed. It explores the implications of these findings for cognitive modifiability in adults with intellectual disability and the potential of tailored academic writing interventions in post-secondary education programmes. Background and aims: Orthostatic hypotension (Ohypo) and hypertension (Ohyper) have emerged early markers for high risk of cardiovascular events. Data on the prevalence and risk factors of Ohypo and Ohyper in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are scarce. Methods: Within the framework of the Brazilian Diabetes Study, this is an observational, cross-sectional study. The diagnosis of Ohypo was based on drops in systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥20mmHg or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≥10mmHg when transitioning from sitting to standing. Ohyper was defined by either a SBP increase ≥20mmHg during this transition or a sustained elevation to 140 mmHg in otherwise normotensive individuals. Results: The study population (n = 900) had a mean age of 57 ± 8 years, 57% male and the median T2D duration was 8 years. Sitting SBP and DBP were 140 ± 20 mmHg and 82 ± 11 mmHg, respectively. Of the total sample, 108 (12%) had Ohypo and 83 (9%) had Ohyper. Each 1-year increase in age was associated with 3.7% higher odds of orthostatic hypotension (OHypo). Additionally, each 1 mmHg increase in systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and mean arterial pressure (MAP) corresponded to a 3.0, 5.5, and 5.4% increase in the odds of OHypo, respectively. Ohyper risk did not associate with age but showed an inverse relationship with sitting BP values. Conclusions: Ohypo and Ohyper are common occurrences in patients with T2D. This study examines how anti-Asian racism intersects with sexism and ageism, impacting Asian Americans’ fear of racial victimization. Using nationally representative data from the “Dynamics of Social Life during COVID-19” survey, we show that these intersections affect subjective experiences of racism among young and older Asian Americans across various ethnic groups in the U.S. Younger Asian women report the highest levels of worry about racism, with this concern decreasing with age. In contrast, older Asian men worry more than younger men. Asian women also reported more instances of unfair treatment and discrimination, while Asian men reported higher instances of racial violence. Our findings reveal that anti-Asian racism is a multifaceted phenomenon shaped by intersections of gender, age, and ethnicity. Family vacation represents a potentially important but understudied context for child development and wellbeing. Using a sample of 9,539 children from 2009–2010 U.S. Health Behavior in School-Aged Children (HBSC) Survey, this study examined the relationship between family vacation taking and child's life satisfaction. Results showed a positive relationship between family vacation taking and child's life satisfaction after controlling for child's socio-demographic, health related and family related variables. Additionally, age moderated the relationship between family vacation taking and life satisfaction, with the relationship being stronger for children aged 14 or older than children aged 13 or younger. Finally, child's family relationships satisfaction partially mediated the relationship between family vacation taking and life satisfaction for children aged 14 or older, and nearly fully mediated the relationship for children aged 13 or younger. Introduction: Colon cancer is the second most common cause of death in the United States. With an increasing number of patients diagnosed at younger ages, the disease remains a significant burden. However, recent data on early onset patients admitted with colon cancer are still limited. Methods: We utilized the 2016 to 2021 National Inpatient Sample to investigate trends and characteristics of colon cancer hospitalizations. Nonelective participants were divided into early onset and normal-age groups, with a cut point of 50 years old. In addition, we also investigated factors associated with the risk of inpatient mortality in the study population. Results: There were 26,903 early onset nonelective colon cancer hospitalizations in the population group, amounting to 11.91% of total colon cancer hospitalizations. No significant changes or trends were seen from 2016 to 2021. Compared to the normal-age population group, there was a disproportionate number of Blacks, Hispanics, and Asian Americans, as well as those with obesity and tobacco usage. Conclusion: Some demographic factors and comorbidities disproportionately affect early onset colon cancer patients when compared to the normal-age population group. This online, cross-sectional study examined food insecurity and sleep quality among pregnant/recently pregnant women (N = 486). The prevalence of food insecurity was highest among emerging adults (69%), followed by young adults (57%) and middle-aged adults (31%). In adjusted models, emerging and young adults had 2.42 (1.19, 4.97) and 2.62 (1.60, 4.37) times the odds of food insecurity compared to middle-aged adults. Individuals reporting low food security (−0.29 [−0.44, −0.13]) and very low food security (−0.61 [−0.80, −0.41]) had lower sleep quality compared to individuals reporting food security. Undernutrition and inflammatory processes are predictors of early mortality in the elderly and require a rapid and accurate diagnosis. Currently, there are laboratory markers for assessing nutritional status, but new markers are still being sought. Recent studies suggest that sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) has the potential to be a marker for undernutrition. This article summarizes available studies on the association of SIRT1 and undernutrition in older people. Possible associations between SIRT1 and the aging process, inflammation, and undernutrition in the elderly have been described. The literature suggests that low SIRT1 levels in the blood of older people may not be associated with physiological aging processes, but with an increased risk of severe undernutrition associated with inflammation and systemic metabolic changes. 1. An experiment was conducted to explore the age-related changes in carcass composition, physicochemical properties, texture and microstructure of meat from White King pigeons. The study used 32 carcasses collected from White King pigeons (16 aged 4 weeks and 16 aged 180 weeks).2. The 180-week-old White King pigeons had a higher percentage of eviscerated carcass characteristics. The 4-week-old pigeons were characterised by higher percentage of skin with subcutaneous fat and carcass remainders. In conclusion, the study demonstrated that the age of White King pigeons has a considerable impact on carcass composition, physicochemical properties, meat texture and microstructure. Older adults all around the world encountered numerous challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of these challenges were pertinent to biological factors, like the risk of infection, while others resulted from social factors, like ageism and government regulations. Employing a capability approach, this study examined how age-based pandemic regulations that were imposed in Turkey affected the freedom and social environment of older adults. We used Bachhi’s What is the Problem Represented to Be? (WPR) approach to analyze the memorandums issued by the central government between March 11, 2020, and June 30, 2021. Our analysis revealed that the problem is represented in these memorandums as older people’s increased vulnerability to health risks, which resulted in violations of their mobility and health capabilities, as well as (mis)recognition of diversity within the older population. These findings provide vital insight into how age-based pandemic regulations define the problem based exclusively on chronological age, thereby creating circumstances that compromise older people’s capabilities beyond simply maintaining health. Thus, we recommend that policymakers pay closer attention to both the intended and unintended consequences of any proposed regulations, and account for individuals’ capabilities rather than merely their functionings. To establish age- and sex-specific reference intervals (RIs) for serum tumor markers (AFP, CEA, CA125, CA199, CA153, HE4, CA724, CYFRA21-1, PSA, and NSE) among a cohort of healthy individuals in South China, a retrospective analysis was conducted on 51,353 samples collected from 2015 to 2020, during health assessments at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital. The influence of age and gender on serum tumor markers was investigated. New RIs were determined using non-parametric rank-based methods per CLSI EP28-A3C guidelines. Significant differences were detected across age groups for AFP, CEA, CA125, CA199, HE4, CYFRA21-1, PSA, and NSE (p < 0.05). The upper reference limits (URLs) for CA153 and HE4 are significantly lower compared to our current laboratory standards. The URL for CA125 exceeds these limits in individuals under 50 but decreases in those aged 50 and above. For CA199, CEA, and PSA, the URLs are below current standards in individuals younger than 60 but exceed them in those aged 60 and older. Noteworthy elevations were observed in CA724, CYFRA21-1, and NSE levels. Our study establishes age- and sex-specific RIs for ten serum tumor markers among healthy individuals from South China, providing a fundamental resource for the prevention, early detection, and management of tumor-related disorders. Objective: The ability to discriminate natural soundscapes recorded in a temperate terrestrial biome was measured in 15 hearing-impaired (HI) listeners with bilateral, mild to severe sensorineural hearing loss and 15 normal-hearing (NH) controls. Design: Soundscape discrimination was measured using a three-interval oddity paradigm and the method of constant stimuli. On each trial, sequences of 2-second recordings varying the habitat, season and period of the day were presented diotically at a nominal SPL of 60 or 80 dB. Results: Discrimination scores were above chance level for both groups, but they were poorer for HI than NH listeners. On average, the scores of HI listeners were relatively well accounted for by those of NH listeners tested with stimuli spectrally-shaped to match the frequency-dependent reduction in audibility of individual HI listeners. However, the scores of HI listeners were not significantly correlated with pure-tone audiometric thresholds and age. Conclusions: These results indicate that the ability to discriminate natural soundscapes associated with changes in habitat, season and period of the day is disrupted but it is not abolished. The deficits of the HI listeners are partly accounted for by reduced audibility. Given the adage "older and wiser," it seems justified to assume that older people may be stereotyped as more moral than younger people. We aimed to study whether assessments of a person's morality differ depending on their age. We asked 661 individuals from seven societies (Australians, Britons, Burusho of Pakistan, Canadians, Dani of Papua, New Zealanders, and Poles) whether younger (~20-year-old), middle-aged (~40-year-old), or older (~60-year-old) people were more likely to behave morally and have a sense of right and wrong. We observed that older people were perceived as more moral than younger people. The effect was particularly salient when comparing 20-year-olds to either 40- or 60-year-olds and was culturally universal, as we found it in both WEIRD (i.e. Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) and non-WEIRD societies. Given the contemporary global issues and recent advances in technology, 21st-century skills are deemed necessary to successfully adapt to the challenges inherent in today's world. Reflective thinking is one of the crucial skills for fostering critical thinking, lifelong learning, and employability skills among students. In light of the scarcity of research on reflection in Moroccan higher education, the current study investigates the extent to which Moroccan university students are interested in engaging in reflective thinking and the role of age, gender, and academic level in their interest in reflective thinking. The data are collected from 107 Moroccan English department students. The results indicate the absence of gender-based differences in interest in reflective thinking among the students. Nevertheless, age and academic level significantly differentiate Moroccan university students in terms of their interest in reflective thinking. Building on this, the current study suggests some pedagogical implications for integrating reflective practice in university courses and programs, and highlights several issues that can serve as avenues for future research. Children (N = 152; ages 7–13 years) witnessed E1 steal $20 from a wallet. E1 then asked the children to lie and say that they did not take the money. Children were interviewed about their experience with E1 and completed two questionnaires about E1 and E2. Children who reported higher likeability scores with E1 were more likely to attempt to conceal the theft and more willing to keep it a secret. Children who reported higher likeability scores with E2 were more likely to indirectly disclose the theft. Age also played a role in children's ability to maintain their concealment. Results have important implications for professionals who interview children and suggest that more research is needed to examine ways to increase children's comfort with interviews/interviewers. Traversodontid cynodonts are one of the most abundant and diverse groups of tetrapods in the Triassic assemblages of Brazil. These cynodonts are distributed across four Brazilian Assemblage Zones (AZ), ranging from the late Ladinian to the early Norian. The most taxonomically diverse record comes from the Dinodontosaurus AZ, which has so far yielded at least six traversodontid genera. Among these taxa, Protuberum cabralense represents one of the most bizarre forms. This cynodont is characterised by the presence of enlarged and rounded protuberances along the dorsal surface of the ribs, the vertebral neural spines and dorsal portion of the iliac blades. These structures have been suggested to serve as a defensive mechanism or related to burrowing/digging habits. We report the first occurrence of P. cabralense at the Linha Várzea 1 site, located in the municipality of Paraíso do Sul, Brazil. This site is considered late Ladinian to early Carnian in age. The new material consists of five rib fragments, which possess the characteristic protuberances on their dorsal surface. A biostratigraphic investigation demonstrates the absence of P. cabralense in fossiliferous sites that yielded the cynodonts Luangwa. The goal of the present study was to test how two design features common in young children’s prosocial media content, particularly inclusion lessons, affect children’s emotional, narrative, and moral lesson comprehension. Specifically, we tested if children’s comprehension differed based on whether characters were humans or dogs, and whether inclusion was modeled for approximately 80% of the show or 20% of the show. We also examined if experimental effects differed based on the type of comprehension measured. Using data collected from 98 children in the United States (ages 3–8 years), we found that, generally, children comprehended better when characters were humans, compared with dogs, and when inclusion was modeled for 80% of the show, relative to only 20% of the show, although these findings were less consistent. We also noted age effects where, in general, older children comprehended better than younger children, and were aided through the use of human characters. We discuss the practical implications of this work in terms of how to best design prosocial media to support children’s comprehension, as well as the theoretical implications in terms of thinking about children’s cognitive capacities and when to measure different forms of comprehension. AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the lives of people worldwide. However, even in times of prolonged exposure to extreme and new realities such as this pandemic, people are also able to experience positive emotions. To understand how people’s emotional responses have changed over the course of the pandemic and what helps people to be positively engaged in perceiving negative situations as an opportunity to experience positive emotions, we conducted a three-wave longitudinal study in Spain. A total of 396 participants (Mage = 40.11, SD 12.66, 74% women) completed three waves of a web-based survey during the lockdown. Descriptive and correlational analyses, a repeated measures General Lineal Model, and 4 mixed effects models with a random effect on individuals were conducted to test hypotheses. Growth models revealed that positive and negative affect increased over time. Older people show more positive and less negative affectivity. Positive humor and affection coping strategies bolster positive emotions and buffer negative emotions over time in older participants. Older people who use more positive humor and affection experienced more positive emotions and decreased their levels of negative emotions over time. The different trajectories in positive and negative affect suggest age benefits in emotional regulation and a positive effect in older ages during the lockdown. Positive psychological interventions that boost a person’s coping repertoire by helping them increase the experience of positive emotions may hold great promise aiding people to bolster their mental health in highly stressful and unexpected future crises [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractThis qualitative research examines how sapphic people (i.e., umbrella term inclusive of lesbian, bisexual, and pansexual trans femmes, mascs, nonbinary people, and ciswomen) in South Carolina navigate informational barriers within healthcare systems. An information practices lens that examines how sapphic people create, seek, use, and share information to achieve desired healthcare outcomes describes such navigation. The research focuses on how intersectional identities, with a particular emphasis on age and considerations of race/ethnicity, geography, and gender, mediate these practices and their outcomes. The research uses participant data from semi-structured interviews and focus groups with 34 sapphic people about their health information practices. Participants varied in age and generational representation from 18 through 64. Data analysis utilized qualitative coding to compare how participants experience and circumnavigate health information barriers across age and generation. Data analysis highlighted age-related and generational barriers and facilitators in health information practices within SC sapphic communities. These barriers, shaped by cultural and community dynamics, affected how participants sought and shared health information. Older participants faced barriers rooted in historical experiences, leading to mistrust of healthcare systems, while younger ones encountered challenges imposed by adults. Despite differences, both groups sought sources aligned with their identities and shared frustrations with changing LGBTQIA + language. Across generations, there was a consistent effort to support younger members through protective and defensive health information practices. Implications of these findings identify strategies for healthcare providers and information professionals to dismantle health and healthcare information barriers experienced by those under the LGBTQIA + umbrella who experience less visibility than white gay men from urban areas—additional implications center on strategies for sapphic communities to engender communal care spanning generations. Since workforces are aging worldwide, scientists and practitioners aim at understanding the potential contribution of (bundles of) HR practices in increasing commitment among aging workers. In this time-lagged survey study, we distinguished four HR bundles for aging workers (Kooij et al., 2014a; Van Dalen et al., 2015): development, maintenance, utilization, and accommodative HR practices. We investigated the influence of the availability and use of these HR bundles on commitment over time and the role of age in this relationship. Based on two-wave complete panel data (N = 489) collected among employees in a Dutch university, we found that perceived availability of maintenance HR practices was positively associated with commitment over time. Further, based on the Selection, Optimization, and Compensation model (Baltes & Baltes, 1990), we expected and found that the relationship of the perceived availability and the perceived usage of utilization HR practices with commitment strengthens with age. Within urban sociology, the unpredictability of poor, urbanized space explains why black youth are "present oriented" and why they treat orientations to the future as futile. But where urban sociology suspends black youth in time and space, this research aims to de-arrest them from the "ethnographic present." Drawing on data from in-depth interviews with thirty youth, I make the case that within "present orientations" there is prescience. This paper is based on over one year of fieldwork at Run-a-Way – a center for youth in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With limited life chances and limited chances at life, youth at Run-a-Way saw the future as fugitive. Instead of being a paralyzing force keeping youth suspended in time, present orientations were marked by the production of nowness, in light of a prescient vision of what is to come. Because black youth chose not to entertain liberal futurities directed towards "rights" and "freedoms" associated with a post-raciality did not make them present oriented. It made them prepared. As prescience comes to serve as a more accurate signifier of black youth's relation to the future, we come to see why the "ethnographic present" and the interpellation of blackness through abjection are both unsustainable and obsolete. We aimed to evaluate the influence of supervision, athlete age and sex and programme duration and adherence on exercise-based injury prevention programme effectiveness in sport. Databases were searched for randomized controlled trials evaluating exercise-based injury prevention programme effectiveness compared to "train-as-normal". A random effects meta-analysis for overall effect and pooled effects by sex and supervision and meta-regression for age, intervention duration and adherence were performed. Programmes were effective overall (risk ratio (RR) 0.71) and equally beneficial for female-only (0.73) and male-only (0.65) cohorts. Supervised programmes were effective (0.67), unlike unsupervised programmes (1.04). No significant association was identified between programme effectiveness and age or intervention duration. The inverse association between injury rate and adherence was significant (β=-0.014, p = 0.004). Supervised programmes reduce injury by 33%, but there is no evidence for the effectiveness of non-supervised programmes. Introduction: The ability to name pictures has been investigated widely in healthy people and clinical populations. The Object and Action Naming Battery (OANB) is widely used for psycholinguistic research, aphasia research, and clinical practice. Normative databases for pictorial stimuli have been conducted in language processing studies to control for various psycholinguistic variables known to affect the availability of picture names. The present study provides Moroccan Arabic norms for name agreement, familiarity, imageability, visual complexity, and age of acquisition for 100 line drawings of actions and 162 line drawings of objects taken from Druks and Masterson. Methods and procedures: 160 healthy Moroccan Arabic-speaking individuals participated in this study. Name agreement values for the OANB items were collected from forty subjects, followed by collecting data for the psycholinguistic variables: spoken-word frequency, imageability, visual complexity, and age of acquisition from 120 participants. Results: The Moroccan Arabic OANB (MA-OANB) comprises 70 objects and 60 action pictures. 77% of the nouns and 68% of the verbs obtained 100% target responses. A minimum of 93 percent name agreement was reached for the remaining items. Norms were also collected for the following psycholinguistic variables: spoken-word frequency, imageability, age of acquisition, and visual complexity. Simulated driving offers a convenient test of driving ability for older drivers, although the viability of using simulated driving with this population is mixed. The relative weighting of the relevant perceptual, cognitive, and physical factors may vary between simulated and on-road driving. The current study was designed to assess this possibility. We conducted simulated and on-road driving tests of 61 older adults aged 66–92 years. To ensure that the driving performance was measured similarly between the two driving modalities, we employed the Record of Driving Errors (RODE) driving assessment system during both driving tests. Correlation and random weights analysis (RWA) results indicated only modest evidence of correspondence between the simulated and on-road driving performances. The primary factors operative in both simulated and on-road driving was Useful Field of View and a measure of basic cognition. Unique factors for simulated driving included a measure of physical mobility (Time-Up-and-Go) and spatial reasoning (Line), and for on-road driving included chronological age and sensorimotor processing (Trail-Making Task A). Chronological age was correlated primarily the on-road rather than simulated test, was greatly reduced with the inclusion of additional explanatory factors, and likely reflects driving efficiency rather than driving safety. We conclude that simulated driving in healthy older drivers can be beneficial for research purposes to assess cognitive and perceptual factors that underly driving effectiveness, although it cannot serve as a clear proxy for on-road driving. The paper proposes a wave spectral partitioning method for the surface waves investigation and monitoring (SWIM) spectrometer based on the wave age and parameter optimization (WA-PO) method. The wave age criterion is a way to identify waves as wind waves or swells, and parameter optimization methods enable the modeling of wave spectra. The combination of the two can use the spectrum models to fit the SWIM spectra based on clarifying whether the spectrum models belong to wind waves or swells, which achieves spectral partitioning. The WA-PO method consists of four steps: peaks region dividing, spectral peaks searching, objective function constructing, and model parameters optimizing. The results show that compared with the partition products provided by the SWIM, the partition parameters obtained from the WA-PO method are closer to those of the Integrated Ocean Waves for Geophysical and other Applications (IOWAGA) numerical hindcast dataset developed from the WAVEWATCH III (WW3). The term "glycation compounds" comprises a wide range of structurally diverse compounds that are formed endogenously and in food via the Maillard reaction, a chemical reaction between reducing sugars and amino acids. Glycation compounds produced endogenously are considered to contribute to a range of diseases. This has led to the hypothesis that glycation compounds present in food may also cause adverse effects and thus pose a nutritional risk to human health. In this work, the Senate Commission on Food Safety (SKLM) of the German Research Foundation (DFG) summarized data on formation, occurrence, exposure and toxicity of glycation compounds (Part A) and systematically assessed potential associations between dietary intake of defined glycation compounds and disease, including allergy, diabetes, cardiovascular and renal disease, gut/gastrotoxicity, brain/cognitive impairment and cancer (Part B). A systematic search in Pubmed (Medline), Scopus and Web of Science using a combination of keywords defining individual glycation compounds and relevant disease patterns linked to the subject area of food, nutrition and diet retrieved 253 original publications relevant to the research question. Of these, only 192 were found to comply with previously defined quality criteria and were thus considered suitable to assess potential health risks of dietary glycation compounds. For each adverse health effect considered in this assessment, however, only limited numbers of human, animal and in vitro studies were identified. While studies in humans were often limited due to small cohort size, short study duration, and confounders, experimental studies in animals that allow for controlled exposure to individual glycation compounds provided some evidence for impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance, cardiovascular effects and renal injury in response to oral exposure to dicarbonyl compounds, albeit at dose levels by far exceeding estimated human exposures. The overall database was generally inconsistent or inconclusive. Based on this systematic review, the SKLM concludes that there is at present no convincing evidence for a causal association between dietary intake of glycation compounds and adverse health effects. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Considering the implication of endogenous glycation compounds in aging and disease, dietary exposure via consumption of an "AGE (advanced glycation end product) rich diet" is increasingly suggested to pose a potential health risk. However, studies attempting to assess an association between dietary glycation compounds and adverse health effects frequently suffer from insufficient chemical analysis of glycation compounds, including inadequate structural characterization and limited quantitative data. The Senate Commission on Food Safety (SKLM) of the German Research Foundation (DFG) previously defined quality criteria for studies designed to assess the effects of dietary glycation compounds on human health. The aim of the present work is to summarize data on formation, occurrence, exposure and toxicity of glycation compounds (Part A) and to systematically evaluate if the currently available scientific database allows for a conclusive assessment of potential health effects of defined glycation compounds (Part B). The term "glycation compounds" comprises a wide range of structurally diverse compounds that derive from the Maillard reaction, a chemical reaction between reducing carbohydrates and amino compounds that occurs during food processing. In the first stage of the Maillard reaction, reducing sugars such as glucose and fructose react for instance with the ε-amino group of lysine, which is most abundant in food ("glycation" of lysine). Subsequently, these primary reaction products undergo Amadori rearrangement to yield products (ARP) such as fructosyllysine (FL) from glucose and also Heyns rearrangement products (HRPs) such as glucosyl- and mannosyllysine from fructose. While ARPs are rapidly formed during food processing, they are not stable and undergo degradation reactions, predominantly to 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds such as glyoxal (GO), methylglyoxal (MGO) and 3-deoxyglucosone (3-DG), which are highly reactive. The last stage of the Maillard reaction is characterized predominantly by the reaction of these dicarbonyl compounds with nucleophilic groups of proteins. The side-chains of lysine and arginine residues as well as the N-termini of proteins are important reaction sites. Carboxyalkylated amino acids such as N-ε-carboxymethyllysine (CML) and N-ε-carboxyethyllysine (CEL) result from reaction of the ε-amino group of lysine with the dicarbonyl compounds GO and MGO. Dicarbonyl compounds with C5 or C6 chains can form cyclic pyrrole derivatives at the ε-amino group of lysine. The most important example for this reaction is pyrraline, which is formed from reaction of 3-DG and lysine. The reaction of dicarbonyl compounds with the guanidino group of arginine mainly leads to hydroimidazolones, of which the MGO-derived hydroimidazolone 1 (MG-H1) is best described in food systems. ARPs are the most abundant glycation products found in food. Up to 55% of the lysine residues in food may be modified to ARPs at the side-chain. Food items particularly rich in ARPs include bread, rusk, biscuits, chocolate, and powdered infant formulas. Exposure estimates range between 0.6–1.6 mg/kg body weight (bw), although exposure may be as high as 14.3 mg/kg bw in individuals consuming foods with extreme ARP concentrations. Foods particularly rich in dicarbonyl compounds include heat-treated or long-term stored items rich in reducing sugars such as jams, alternative sweeteners, soft drinks, honey, candies, cookies, and vinegars, especially balsamico-type vinegars. The main contributors to the daily intake of MGO, GO, and 3-DG are coffee and bread. Dietary exposure to dicarbonyl compounds has been estimated to range between 0.02–0.29 mg/kg bw/d for MGO, 0.04–0.16 mg/kg bw/d for GO, 0.14–2.3 mg/kg bw/d for 3-DG, and 0.08–0.13 mg/kg bw/d for 3-deoxygalactosone (3-DGal). Dietary intake of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), which can be formed from 3-DG, is estimated to range between 0.0001–0.9 mg/kg bw/d. Exposure estimates for individual glycated amino acids range from 0.03–0.35 mg/kg bw/d for CML, 0.02–0.04 mg/kg bw/d for CEL and 0.19–0.41 mg/kg bw/d for MG-H1. From a model diet consisting of 1 L milk, 500 g bakery products and 400 mL coffee, an intake of pyrraline corresponding to 0.36 mg/kg bw/d for a 70 kg person was estimated. Quantitative analysis of individual glycation compounds or their metabolites in tissues or body fluids as well as their reaction products with amino acids, proteins or DNA may serve to monitor exposure to glycation compounds. However, since glycation compounds are also formed endogenously, these biomarkers reflect the totality of the exposure, making it inherently difficult to define the body burden due to dietary intake against the background of endogenous formation. Information on the toxicokinetics and toxicity of glycation compounds is scarce and mostly limited to the reactive dicarbonyl compounds GO, MGO, 3-DG, HMF, and individual glycated amino acids such as CML and CEL. Acute toxicity of dicarbonyl compounds is low to moderate. There are some data to suggest that rapid detoxification of dicarbonyls in the gastrointestinal tract and liver may limit their oral bioavailability. Biotransformation of GO and MGO occurs predominantly via the glutathione (GSH)-dependent glyoxalase system, and to a lesser extent via glutathione-independent aldo-keto-reductases, which are also responsible for biotransformation of 3-DG. GO, MGO and 3-DG readily react with DNA bases in vitro, giving rise to DNA adducts. There is clear evidence for genotoxicity of GO, MGO and 3-DG. Repeated dose toxicity studies on GO consistently reported reduced body weight gain concomitant with reduced food and water consumption but did not identify compound related changes in clinical chemistry and hematology or histopathological lesions. There is also no evidence for systemic carcinogenicity of GO and MGO based on the available studies. However, initiation/promotion studies indicate that oral exposure to GO may exhibit genotoxic and tumor promoting activity locally in the gastrointestinal tract. From a 2-year chronic toxicity and carcinogenicity study in rats, a NOAEL for systemic toxicity of GO administered via drinking water of 25 mg/kg bw was reported based on reduced body weight and erosions/ulcer in the glandular stomach. Other non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions were not observed. Acute toxicity of HMF is also low. From a 90-day repeated dose toxicity study in mice, a NOAEL of 94 mg/kg bw was derived based on cytoplasmic alterations of proximal tubule epithelial cells of the kidney. HMF was mostly negative in in vitro genotoxicity tests, although positive findings for mutagenicity were obtained under conditions that promote formation of the chemically reactive sulfuric acid ester 5-sulfoxymethylfurfural. There is some evidence of carcinogenic activity of HMF in female B6C3F1 mice based on increased incidences of hepatocellular adenoma, but not in male mice and rats of both sexes. Although data on oral bioavailability of glycated amino acids are mostly limited to CML, it appears that glycated amino acids may be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral exposure to their free and protein bound form. Glycated amino acids that are not absorbed in the intestine may be subject to metabolism by the gut microbiome. Glycated amino acids present in the systemic circulation are rapidly eliminated via the urine. Acute oral toxicity of CML is low. Studies in mice and rats reported changes in clinical chemistry parameters indicative of impaired renal and hepatic function. However, these changes were not dose-related and not supported by histopathological evaluation. Previous risk assessments of individual glycation compounds did not identify a health concern at estimated human exposures (GO, HMF) but also noted the lack of data to draw firm conclusions on health risks associated with exposure to MGO. To identify potential associations between dietary intake of defined glycation compounds and disease a systematic review was carried out according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) model, applying the quality criteria previously defined by the SKLM. Using a combination of keywords defining individual glycation compounds and relevant disease patterns linked to the subject area of food, nutrition and diet, a systematic search in Pubmed (Medline), Scopus and Web of Science was performed. Although the present systematic review identified numerous studies that investigated an association between an "AGE-rich diet" and adverse health effects, only a subset of studies was found to comply with the quality criteria defined by the SKLM and was thus considered suitable to assess potential health risks of dietary glycation compounds. For each adverse health effect considered in this assessment, only limited numbers of human studies were identified. Although studies in humans offer the advantage of investigating effects at relevant human exposures, these studies did not provide compelling evidence for adverse effects of dietary glycation compounds. Animal studies identified in this systematic review provide some evidence for induction of impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance, cardiovascular effects and renal injury in response to oral exposure to GO and MGO as representatives of dicarbonyl compounds. Only limited evidence points to a link between high intake of glycated amino acids and metabolic disorders. However, these effects were typically reported to occur at dose levels that exceed human dietary exposure, often by several orders of magnitude. Unfortunately, most studies employed only one dose level, precluding characterization of dose-response and derivation of a point of departure for risk assessment. While in vitro studies provide some evidence for a potential mechanistic link between individual glycation compounds and presumed adverse health effects, the clinical and toxicological relevance of the in vitro findings is often limited by the use of high concentrations of glycation compounds that by far exceed human dietary exposure and by insufficient evidence for corresponding adverse effects in vivo. A key question that has not been adequately considered in most studies investigating systemic effects of glycation compounds is the extent of oral bioavailability of dietary glycation compounds, including the form in which MRPs may be taken up (e.g. free vs. peptide bound glycated amino acids). Understanding how much dietary glycation compounds really add to the significant endogenous background is critical to appraise the relevance of dietary MRPs for human health. While it appears mechanistically plausible that glycation of dietary allergens may affect their allergenic potential, the currently available data do not support the hypothesis that dietary glycation compounds may increase the risk for diet-induced allergies. There are no human studies addressing the immunological effects of dietary AGEs. Accordingly, there are no data on whether dietary AGEs promote the development of allergies, nor whether existing allergies are enhanced or attenuated. In numerous in vitro studies, the IgG/E binding ability of antigens and therefore their allergenic potential has been predominantly reported to be reduced by glycation. However, some in vitro studies showed that glycated proteins bind to receptors of immunological cells, and thus may have promoting effects on immune response and inflammation. Although experimental data from animal studies provide some evidence that high doses of individual glycation compounds such as MGO and protein-bound CML may produce certain adverse health effects, including diabetogenic, cardiovascular, metabolic and renal effects, the doses required to achieve these effects by far exceed human dietary exposures. Of note, in the only long-term study identified, a high dose of MGO administered via drinking water to mice for 18 months had no adverse effects on the kidneys, cardiovascular system, or development of diabetes. Experimental data from animal studies provide evidence that high doses of defined glycation compounds such as MGO or protein-bound CML may affect glucose homeostasis. However, the doses required to produce these effects markedly exceed human dietary exposure. Results from human studies are inconclusive: Three short-term intervention studies suggested that diets rich in AGEs may impair glucose homeostasis, whereas one recent intervention study and two observational studies failed to show such an effect. For the cardiovascular system, there is some evidence from in vitro and in vivo studies that high concentrations of MRPs, well above the dietary exposure of humans, may enhance inflammation in the cardiovascular system, induce endothelial damage, increase blood pressure and increase the risk of thrombosis. Only a limited number of human intervention studies investigated potential effects of short-term exposure and longer-term effects of glycation compounds on the cardiovascular system, and yielded inconsistent results. The few observational studies available either found no association between dietary MRP intake and cardiovascular function or even reported beneficial effects. Therefore, currently no definitive conclusion on potential acute and chronic effects of dietary MRPs on inflammation and cardiovascular function can be drawn. However, there is currently also no convincing evidence that potential adverse effects on the cardiovascular system are triggered by dietary MRP intake. Furthermore, human studies did not provide evidence for an adverse effect of dietary MRPs on kidney function. In animal studies with high levels of oral intake, MGO was reported to cause structural and functional effects in the kidney. Several studies show that the concentration of modified proteins and amino acids, such as CML, increases significantly in kidney tissue after oral intake. One study showed a negative effect of a high-temperature-treated diet containing increased CML concentrations on kidney structure integrity and impaired glomerular filtration. The causative relationship of accumulation of dietary MRPs and a functional decline of the kidneys, however, needs further confirmation. With regard to gut health, there is some evidence for alterations in gut microflora composition and the production of individual short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) upon dietary exposure to glycation compounds. However, this has not been linked to adverse health effects in humans and may rather reflect adaptation of the gut microbiota to changing nutrients. In particular, a human observational study and several animal studies did not find a correlation between the intake of glycation compounds and increased intestinal inflammation. In animal studies, positive effects of glycation compounds on gut tissue damage and dysbiosis during colitis were described. Considering clear evidence for DNA reactivity and genotoxicity of the dicarbonyl compounds GO, MGO and 3-DG, it is plausible to suspect that dicarbonyl compounds may induce mutations and cancer. Although there is some evidence for tumor promoting activity of GO locally in the gastrointestinal tract, the only guideline-compatible chronic rodent bioassays reported erosions and ulcer in the glandular stomach but no treatment-related neoplastic lesions. A recent multinational cohort study with focus on CEL, CML, and MG-H1 found no evidence to support the hypothesis that dietary AGEs are linked to cancer risk. Evidence for an association between human exposure to dietary glycation compounds and detrimental effects on the brain and on cognitive performance is far from being compelling. No human studies fully complying with the defined quality criteria were identified. A few experimental studies reported neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment following dietary MRP exposure, but these can be considered indicative at best and do not support firm conclusions for human health. In addition to utilizing exceedingly high dosages of individual agents like CML, harsh processing conditions causing a multitude of major process-related changes do not allow to convincingly reconcile effects observed with measured/supposed contents of free and protein-bound CML alone. Overall, although dietary glycation compounds have been claimed to contribute to a wide range of adverse health effects, the present critical evaluation of the literature allows the conclusion that the available data are insufficient, inadequate or inconclusive and do not compellingly support the hypothesis of human health risks being related to the presence of glycation compounds in food. The study limitations detailed above, together with the fact that a large number of studies did not comply with the defined quality criteria and therefore had to be excluded highlight the importance of performing adequately designed human or animal studies to inform scientifically reliable health risk assessment. Using an intersectional analysis, this article critically analyses implied and expressed norms to identify perceptions of appropriate behaviour in children's play, and to explore how social communicative arenas such as Internet forums construct knowledge and values. Adults' responses to an incident that occurred amongst a group of children in Swedish early childhood education as part of free play during the preschool day were analysed. The incident was described in a thread posted on the Familjeliv (Family Life) internet forum. The research questions were: what images of children are prominent in discourse on appropriate behaviour as part of free play; what discursive categorisations of children related to age, gender and sexuality can be identified within this discourse; and how do these categorisations intersect? Netnography provided the method used together with thematic content analysis. Findings reveal two contrasting views: first, the view that four-year-olds cannot commit sexual assault on another person; and second, the view that they can. Young children were constructed either as non-sexual, innocent, curious and playful, or as perpetrators who lack consequentialist thinking. Much research has been conducted on young people as a population rather than with them. Traditionally, porn research has focused on effects – on the assumption that people, especially young people, are impacted by the sexual media they consume, which leads to negative outcomes such as violence and addiction. In this sense, porn is framed as risky and children and young people become especially 'at risk'. Sex, sexuality and sexual media are then portrayed as a threat from which young people should be protected. Nevertheless, for many young people watching porn is a normal activity and engaging with porn online is a part of everyday life for some teenagers. Scholars have indicated that many young people perceive porn as ubiquitous, as part of society, and difficult to avoid. In this reflexive article I will interrogate the need for such research, even if it is considered as a form of 'dirty work', within an alarmist and sensationalist media-driven culture. By examining my experiences of the ethics review process, access to participants, and the fieldwork itself, I hope to demonstrate moments of texture and detail throughout the process which future sex, sexuality and porn researchers can draw upon. Young people in rural, regional, and remote communities experience high levels of mental distress. Health services in rural and remote communities are also poorer in quality. Hence, it is critical to understand how social work can help young people in these areas access mental health supports. This scoping review identifies what enables and hinders access to mental health services for young people in rural, regional, and remote areas of Australia and Canada. Twenty-two studies published between 2018 and 2022 were included and analyzed. Background: Tinnitus and uveitis have shared commonality in pathophysiology in terms of autoimmunity. However, no studies that have linked any association between the conditions of tinnitus and uveitis. Methods: This is a retrospective study conducted from the Taiwan National Health Insurance database in order to investigate whether tinnitus patients are at increased risk of uveitis. Patients newly diagnosed with tinnitus between 2001 and 2014 were recruited and followed up until 2018. The endpoint of interest was a diagnosis of uveitis. Results: A total of 31,034 tinnitus patients and 124,136 matched comparisons were analyzed. Tinnitus patients were found to have a significantly higher cumulative incidence for uveitis than those without the diagnosis of tinnitus with incidence rate of 1.68 (95% CI 1.55–1.82) per 10 000 person-months for tinnitus group and 1.48 (95% CI 1.42–1.54) per 10 000 person-months for non-tinnitus group. This article explores the changing star image of Kate Winslet as she enters middle age. It interrogates the media reception of her recent work and off-screen image, considering how discourses around women's agency, visibility, and opportunity in the wake of #MeToo and #TimesUp have impacted this reception specifically in relation to age. Taking Winslet's work in the HBO series Mare of Easttown and the independent film Ammonite as case studies, the article maps her contemporary star image in relation to gender and ageing from 2020 to early 2022. It argues that the rhetoric of #MeToo and #TimesUp has both challenged and reinforced strands of her star image focussed on notions of desirability and gendered and raced body image ideals. Whilst the 'post Weinstein' era has in some instances produced new opportunities for older female performers like Winslet, the article considers how discourses on age, visibility, and value nevertheless maintain barriers for older female stars in the contemporary screen industries. We aim to establish relative importance of socioeconomic, demographic, geographic and other determinants of national suicide rates. To this aim, we apply Bayesian model averaging (BMA) approach to a dataset of 27 potential determinants in a cross-section of 173 countries. Life expectancy at birth, ambient temperature, age dependency ratio and religious affiliation were found to be the most robust protective factors. Objective: This exploratory study examined the prevalence and determinants of the use of the title 'doctor' among the United States (U.S.) licensed Doctors of Physical Therapy (DPTs) during patient-provider introductions. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis of DPTs across eight states was conducted. Binary logistic regression analyzed demographic and experience-related factors influencing title use, including years of experience, board certification status, and clinical instructor (CI) experience. Stepwise logistic regression with forward selection identified significant predictors. Beliefs influencing title use were evaluated through descriptive statistics from multiple choice questions with an option for open-ended responses for additional opinions. Results: Of the 1,311 participants who met the inclusion criteria, 19.9% reported using 'doctor' during patient-provider introductions. The odds of using the title increased with age and was higher among males, with age controlled for. Completion of a residency program and not being a CI were also associated with greater odds of title use, with age and sex controlled for. Beliefs about demonstrating expertise, having earned the title, and advancing the profession were primary reasons for using the title, while concerns about patient confusion and therapeutic alliance were reasons for not using it. Both DPTs who did and did not report using the title 'doctor' commonly cited the impact on therapeutic alliance as justification Conclusions: A minority of our sample of U.S. DPTs use the title 'doctor' during patient-provider introductions, with significant variation across age, gender, and professional experience. Deciding whether to use the title was primarily based on their perceived effects on patient beliefs. Discussion: This is the first study to formally investigate how DPTs refer to themselves during patient-provider introductions. Understanding title use in healthcare can inform best practices during patient interactions. The New Caledonia Trough is a bathymetric depression extending 2,500 km from New Zealand to the Coral Sea. Sedimentary successions up to 10 km thick are contained in three main sedimentary basins, the New Caledonia, Fairway and Deepwater Taranaki basins. Deepwater Taranaki Basin occupies the head of the New Caledonia Trough adjacent to the well-known Taranaki Basin lying almost entirely within New Zealand's marine territory. The inboard part of Deepwater Taranaki Basin is covered by a dense grid of high-quality 2D and some 3D seismic data and one exploration well, Romney-1, which did not drill the syn-rift succession. The oldest sedimentary rocks drilled by Romney-1 are palynologically dated as Teratan (latest Turonian and Coniacian – 91–87 Ma). While the New Caledonia Trough is generally thought to have been initiated by Late Cretaceous (Campbell and Mortimer 2014; Strogen et al. 2017), this paper examines the evidence for the age of the oldest sedimentary rocks in the Deepwater Taranaki Basin and hence its age of inception and by inference, inception of the New Caledonia Trough to suggest a possible Jurassic age. For the first time, this paper takes a dynamic approach to studying formal school exclusions and their association with educational outcomes. In particular, we study every instance of school exclusions over a key part of a pupil's education lifecourse between Year 6 (end of primary school) to Year 11 (end of secondary school). Using a single population cohort of all pupils in maintained schools in Wales, we show that the frequency of formal school exclusions varies over pupils' lifecourse and identify five main exclusion trajectories, reflecting these variations over time, as follows: no exclusions, low level exclusions, early rise in exclusions, high-level Year 11 exclusions and late rise in exclusions. These general trajectories may suggest differences in the underlying reason for school exclusions that are not necessarily evident in pupils' official records or as reported by individual schools. We also show the differential impact of these exclusion trajectories on later educational outcomes. Highlighting these different trajectories may be useful to policymakers and practitioners when developing national and local guidance around school exclusions. We study an avascular spherical solid tumour model with cell physiological age and resource constraints in vivo. We divide the tumour cells into three components: proliferating cells, quiescent cells and dead cells in necrotic core. We assume that the division rate of proliferating cells is nonlinear due to the nutritional and spatial constraints. The proportion of newborn tumour cells entering directly into quiescent state is considered, since this proportion can respond to the therapeutic effect of drug. We establish a nonlinear agestructured tumour cell population model. We investigate the existence and uniqueness of the model solution and explore the local and global stabilities of the tumour-free steady state. The existence and local stability of the tumour steady state are studied. As the world's population of adults greater than 60 years old continues to increase, it is important to manage nail disorders that may impact their daily lives. Nail disorders may have significant impact on quality of life due to decreased functionality, extreme pain, or social embarrassment. In this review, we discuss nail disorders affecting older patients, including physiologic, traumatic, drug-induced, infectious, environmental, inflammatory, and neoplastic conditions. Diagnosis of these conditions involves a detailed history, physical examination of all 20 nails, and depending on the condition, a nail clipping or biopsy and/or diagnostic imaging. Nails grow even more slowly in older adults compared to younger individuals, and therefore it is important for accurate diagnosis, and avoidance of inappropriate management and delay of treatment. AbstractIn this paper, the issue of determining an optimal age replacement is explored by incorporating minimal repair, preventive replacement, and corrective replacement into a k-out-of-n system subject to shocks. The k-out-of-n system in question consists of n identical components, and functions if at least k components function. Each shock causes the failure of a random number of components; if at least n-k + 1 components fail, the system fails and implements corrective replacement, otherwise the system is minimally repaired. The system is scheduled to implement preventive replacement before failure at age T or at the complement of a random working cycle, whichever occurs first or last. In order to balance the bias time between preventive replacement and corrective replacement, a replacement bias cost is also taken into account for planning replacement policies. The present paper develops a two-phase maintenance methodology and determines the optimal number of components and preventive replacement age that minimize the expected cost rate functions. For each model, the expected cost rate function is formulated analytically and optimized theoretically, and a numerical example is given to illustrate the applicability of the proposed methodology. AbstractBilateral coordination of the upper limbs (UL) is important for activities of daily living and physical activities. Motor coordination improves from childhood through adolescence. However, age-coordination trajectories for bilateral UL movements are not well-established, and it is unclear if bimanual coordination develops slower than unilateral coordination. In this study we examined age-related changes in UL coordination from childhood to late adolescence. Typically-developing children (N = 29, aged 7–17 years) performed unilateral and bilateral, antiphase cycling tasks with their ULs. Variations in cycling velocity and interlimb phase errors were computed as measures of coordination. Linear regression was used to examine age-coordination effects. Given the sensorimotor processing for bilateral movements and gradual development of the corpus callosum, we hypothesized different relationships between age and coordination for bilateral and unilateral movements. Results showed UL coordination was significantly related to age, where coordination was better in older compared to younger children (p < 0.001); however, there were similar significant effects for unilateral movements. Differences in unilateral and bilateral coordination were not significantly explained by biological sex, although power to detect sex differences was low. Sex, chronological age, and maturity potentially impact multidimensional health-related characteristics (i.e. motor competence, physical fitness, psychosocial, physical activity), which adds to the challenges of reversing current youth health-related concerns. Previous research fails to optimally assess such characteristics and consider sex, age, and maturity among youth. Therefore, the aims were to 1) present the multidimensional health-related characteristics of 9–14-year-olds from the UK, 2) examine sex differences, and 3) account for the effect of age and maturity on such characteristics. Eighty-one girls (mean age = 12.8 ± 1.2 years) and 136 boys (mean age = 13.1 ± 1.2 years) were purposively sampled and assessed across each of the four health-related domains. Multiple ANCOVA analyses examined sex differences among characteristics while accounting for chronological age. Pearson’s correlations were used to evaluate the associations between maturity and multidimensional health-related characteristics. Multidimensional health-related characteristics were lower than similar populations and highly variable. Boys outperformed girls on most physical measures (ES = −0.76 to 0.76), elicited greater self-determined motivation (ES = 0.36), greater perceived competence (ES = 0.54), and engaged in more vigorous physical activity (ES = 0.78). Small age effects were present across some characteristics (e.g. isometric mid-thigh pull). Associations between maturity and multidimensional health-related characteristics were different for boys and girls (e.g. maturity offset positively associated with motor competence scores in girls only). Results suggest that multidimensional health-related characteristics of 9- to 14-year-olds are a concern, and are impacted by sex, age, and maturity. Identifying methods to improve multidimensional health-related characteristics which considers sex, age, and maturity are required.
