Depression is a pressing yet underdiagnosed issue in health management. Because depressed patients share their symptoms, life events, and treatments on digital platforms, information systems (IS) scholars resort to user-generated digital traces for depression detection. While they facilitate innovative information technology (IT) approaches to alleviate the social and economic burden of depression, most studies lack effective means to incorporate domain knowledge in depression detection systems or suffer from feature extraction difficulties. Following the design science research in IS, we propose a Deep-Knowledge-Aware Depression Detection system to detect social media users at risk of depression and explain the detection factors. We deploy extensive empirical analyses to evaluate our designed IT artifact, which shows domain knowledge greatly improves performance. Our work has significant implications for IS research in knowledge-aware machine learning, digital traces utilization, and generalizable design principles. Practically, the early detection and factor explanation from our IT artifact can assist depression management and enable large-scale assessment of the population's mental health. Between March 28 and June 1, 2022, Shanghai imposed lockdowns under the zero-COVID policy, which caused Shanghai residents to lack access to adequate food. The present study examined the relationship between temporary food insecurity, social capital, and mental health during the lockdowns. We conducted a quota sampling survey in April 2022, in which data of 1,064 respondents, aged 18–79 years, were used to estimate a mediated moderation model. The results show that temporary food insecurity predicted poor self-rated health and high depression levels. Both offline and online social capital positively related to self-rated health but negatively related to depression. When faced with severe food insecurity, people with high offline social capital maintained better self-rated health, whereas those with high online social capital were not immune to depression. The mediation effects of participation in voluntary activities on the relationship between social capital and mental health were not confirmed. AbstractIn the present era, the rapidly growing social media trends of the digital age have the potential to affect the psychological well-being of individuals. In this context, understanding how Social Media Addiction (SMA) interacts with various factors is important to understanding its potential impact on individuals’ psychosocial health. In particular, the prevalence of SMA and its strong relationship with important variables such as anxiety, depression, stress, academic self-efficacy, general belongingness, and life satisfaction have received considerable attention from researchers and the society. This research aims to address the relationship between SMA and these variables in a holistic manner. The research further explored the relationship between life satisfaction and depression, anxiety, academic self-efficacy, and general belongingness. The research is based on a study conducted with 616 students (388 female and 228 male; 17-32 age range) at a state university in the Southeast of Turkey. Personal information form, Smartphone Addiction Scale, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, General Belongingness Scale, and Life Satisfaction Scale were used as data collection tools. Using a structural equation modeling approach, the research not only examined the significant relationships but also examined the mediating and moderating effects in more detail. According to the research results, SMA significantly affects academic self-efficacy, general belongingness, depression, stress and anxiety. Academic self-efficacy and general belongingness both impact life satisfaction. However, SMA does not have a significant effect on life satisfaction. Moreover, it is revealed general belongingness play effective roles in the relationship between SMA and life satisfaction. As a result of the research, it was revealed that gender plays a moderating role in the relationship between SMA and life satisfaction. It has been observed that gender has a moderating role in the relationships between academic self-efficacy, general belongingness, depression, anxiety and stress and life satisfaction. Conversely, there is no moderating influence of gender on the impact of SMA on academic self-efficacy, general belongingness, depression, anxiety, or stress. Recent studies have highlighted the psychological dimensions of chronic diseases like asthma. Despite growing evidence linking asthma with various psychopathological conditions, comprehensive data remains scarce.This study aims to explore the psychopathological status of asthma patients and identify demographic and clinical factors associated with higher levels of psychopathological symptoms.Data were collected from 42 asthma patients attending the Asthma Outpatient Clinic at the University of Thessaly, Greece. Participants completed a detailed questionnaire on demographics and clinical parameters, along with the Symptoms Checklist-90 (SCL-90) to assess psychological symptoms.The sample included patients with varying asthma severity: 38% with severe asthma and 62% with mild-moderate asthma, with a mean age of 60.8 ± 15.6 years. Results indicated that 23.8% exhibited somatization symptoms, 23.8% showed compulsive behaviors, 33.8% reported interpersonal sensitivity, and 38.1% experienced depression and 38.1% aggressiveness. Additionally, 45.2% struggled with fearful anxiety, 4.8% showed paranoid ideation, and 11.9% had traits of psychoticism. Women had significantly higher psychopathology scores than men. Factors such as longer disease duration, uncontrolled asthma, severe asthma, and comorbid conditions like atopy and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) were linked to higher psychopathological scores.The study found a high prevalence of psychopathological symptoms among asthma patients. Female gender, prolonged asthma duration, persistent symptoms, comorbid diseases (GERD, atopy) and greater disease severity were significantly associated with higher psychopathology, underscoring the need for integrated mental health care in asthma management. This study aimed to assess the association of obesity and overweight among rural elderly with their cognitive functioning, depression levels, and social connectedness. A community-based, study was conducted in the Naraingarh and Barara blocks of Ambala district, Haryana, India, with individuals aged 60 years and above. Utilizing systematic random sampling, 52 villages were strategically selected, and simple random sampling was used to select the elderly in the villages. Body Mass Index (BMI) was categorized into underweight, normal, overweight, and obese groups. Data precision was maintained through validated instruments, including the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Hindi Mini-Mental State Examination (HMSE), and Social Connectedness Scale. A total of 468 individuals were enrolled, had a prevalence of obesity and overweight were 24 (5.1%) and 56 (12%), respectively. On bivariate analysis, tobacco intake, age, GDS score, HMSE, and SCS were found to have a statistically significant association with BMI. On logistic regression analysis, Age (OR = 1.077) and Depression score (OR = 1.068) with overweight, and Mental health score (OR = 1.125) with obesity among elderly had a significant association. Mental health emerges as intricately interwoven with overweight and obesity informing the need for targeted interventions to enhance the overall well-being of the elderly population. The study aimed to evaluate the relation between depression, anxiety stress symptoms, duration and pain intensity in women with chronic pelvic pain (CPP). This study consisted of a sample of women diagnosed with CPP from April 2021 to August 2023, including women aged 18 years or older who agreed in writing to participate in the study with the Free Informed Consent Form, who could understand the study’s objectives and participate. Women between 31 and 37 years old, married or in a stable relationship, with a higher education degree predominated. Were observed outside the normal range scale 58.8 percent of depression, 66.7 percent of anxiety and 59.8 percent of stress. The level of alteration most often observed in patients was extremely severe in 24 percent of with depression and 33.3 percent of anxiety, and the level was mild in 19.6 percent of stress symptoms. No statistical association was found between duration of pain and emotional states of anxiety, depression or stress. Regarding pain intensity levels, there was no significant association with the presence or absence of symptoms of depression outside the normal range or its levels. It’s was significantly associated with the presence or absence of anxiety symptoms outside the normal range (p = .003) and with their levels (p = .005). Also significantly associated with the presence or absence of stress symptoms outside the normal range (p = .007), as was its levels (p = .023). The symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress occur frequently in women with CPP and that the intensity of pain experienced is significantly associated with the presence of stress and anxiety but not with depression. Nomophobia has been extensively assessed with the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q). A shortened version of the NMP-Q has not been developed and longitudinal studies linking nomophobia to internalizing problems in adolescents have been limited. The aims are: (1) to reduce the NMP-Q and validate the short version (Nomophobia Questionnaire Short Form (NMPQ-SF) in a sample of Spanish adolescents; (2) to analyze the stability of NMPQ-SF scores; (3) to relate nomophobia to internalizing problems over time. A longitudinal study was conducted in two waves, with 2.066 Spanish adolescents. Results suggest that the NMPQ-SF is a valid and reliable instrument. Girls and the middle adolescence stage have significantly higher scores of nomophobia. A direct effect of nomophobia on anxiety, stress, and depression at six months has been found. Objectives: In the United States (US), prescription drug coverage is subject to prior authorization (PA) criteria, which may vary between health plans and may exceed drug label requirements. This study aimed to characterize profiles and treatment history of patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) who initiated esketamine nasal spray, by stringency of their health plans' PA criteria relative to the esketamine label. Methods: Adults with evidence of TRD (≥2 antidepressant courses of adequate dose and duration) prior to initiating esketamine were identified using US insurance claims data (03/2016–02/2022). Based on health plan PA criteria for esketamine obtained from Managed Markets Insight & Technology data (05/2020–02/2022), patients were grouped into stringent (PA criteria exceeds label) and non-stringent (PA criteria less stringent or equal to label) cohorts. Patient treatment history before esketamine initiation was compared using Wilcoxon rank sum and Fisher's exact tests. Results: The stringent cohort included 168 patients (mean age: 45 years, 63% female) and the non-stringent cohort included 400 patients (mean age: 45 years, 70% female). During the ongoing major depressive episode before esketamine initiation, the stringent versus non-stringent cohort completed 3.9 versus 3.8 antidepressant treatment courses, on average (p = 0.217); 94.6% versus 96.8% used augmentation therapy (p = 0.240), including 59.3% versus 58.1% with an antipsychotic (p = 0.844), respectively. Conclusions: Regardless of health plan stringency, on average, patients exceeded US label-mandated number of antidepressant trials before esketamine initiation, which questions the need for health insurance plans PA criteria above label. Purpose: To investigate frequencies of managers' reported use of work accommodations (WAs) for employees with common mental disorders (CMD), and to examine associations between manager-related characteristics and the use of diverse WAs. Material and methods: 3358 managers took part in a web-survey, of these, 1779 were included in this study. The survey listed 15 WAs grouped into seven types using principal component analysis. The relationships between managers' person-related, knowledge-related, and work-related characteristics with the seven WAs were tested with multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: Reported use of WAs was high. Compared to work-related characteristics, person-related and knowledge-related characteristics were stronger associated with WAs. The two characteristics associated with most WAs types were (1) confidence in supporting employees with CMD (5 WA types) and (2) managerial training on CMD (4 WA types). Conclusion: Managers report an extensive use of different types of WAs. WAs were related to a variety of determinants, depending on the WA type, but using WAs depends on the manager as an individual rather than on their work environment. To increase equal access to WAs, organizations should encourage managers to use WAs in order to support and improve the work capacity for employees with CMD. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Managers' use of work accommodations (WAs) for employees with common mental disorders (CMDs) is highly dependent on their confidence in and knowledge about how to support these employees. Organizations should encourage the universal use of WAs, regardless of individual managers' preference. Organizations should provide training for managers to increase their knowledge on CMDs and how to find WAs for these employees. While cooperating with managers, rehabilitation professionals should pay attention to managers' potential lack of confidence regarding dealing with employees with CMDs and with WAs, and their lack of knowledge on these issues. Rehabilitation professionals should strive for an encouraging and informative approach to managers to increase their confidence and knowledge in matters of employees with CMDs and the supportive role of WAs. Prospective memory (PM) is the ability to remember an intention in the future. Individuals with depression are candidates for PM failures, resulting in detrimental consequences, such as forgetting to take a medication or implement therapeutic techniques; inaccurate assessments of one's PM abilities can exacerbate these issues. The current study examined if appraisals about one's prospective memory (meta-PM) performance differs between healthy and depressed adults. Data were gathered from 137 adults and included self-reported depression, PM beliefs, objective PM, and assessment of executive functions (EFs). Participants were separated into depressed/healthy categories based on a self-report measure. There was a non-significant correlation between self-reported PM and objective PM for both depressed (r =.06, p =.61) and healthy (r =.08, p =.52) groups, suggesting both groups had inaccurate meta-PM. There were non-significant differences in meta-PM between these groups (Fisher's Z = −0.09, p =.93), but exploratory gender analyses revealed women's meta-PM was significantly less accurate than men's. Women had higher reports of depression and PM complaints compared to men. This study lends evidence that depression is not necessarily related to worse meta-PM accuracy, despite depression's association with memory complaints, and that women are at greater risk for inaccurate meta-PM. The increased prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has placed a significant emotional and psychological burden on mothers. We explored the association between the severity of ASD symptoms in children and the mental health of their mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our study included 1,924 mothers of children with ASD, enrolled in a web-based cross-sectional survey over 85 consecutive days to gather clinical and sociodemographic data. The severity of ASD symptoms was obtained according to the children's age. Using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales (DASS-21) scale, we found that 35.8 percent of mothers experienced both anxiety and depression. A high education level and a high family income reduced the chance of concurrent anxiety and depression. Conversely, unemployment, a child using psychiatric medication, and higher severity of ASD symptoms increased the chance. Notably, the severity of the ASD symptom was the sole predictor of maternal co-occurring anxiety and depression across all age groups (<3 years aOR = 2.04, 95%CI 1.07–3.89; 3–5 years aOR = 2.76, 95%CI 1.67–4.56; ≥ 6 years aOR = 1.61, 95%CI 1.04–2.50). Recognizing the challenges associated with ASD leads to greater acceptance and tailored interventions, ultimately improving the overall well-being of both individuals with ASD and their mothers. Perceived Social Support (PSS) and Physical Activity (PA) could have an important role in reducing psychological distress in women with problems in the menopausal period. The aim was to analyze the associations between a) Self-Perceived Health (SPH), prevalence of self-reported depression and anxiety, and mental health and its subscales, through the Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) with b) the Physical Activity Level (PAL) and c) the PSS, through the Duke-UNC-11 functional social support questionnaire in Spanish women with problems in the menopausal period. This document uses data from the Spanish National Health Survey of 2017, focusing on women between 40 and 69 years of age with problems in the menopausal period. Dependency relationships were found between the prevalence of depression and PAL, anxiety and PAL, and SPH with PAL (p < 0.001). Weak inverse correlations were found between PAL and mental health, Coping Success, Self-confidence, and Stress (rho: − 0.214 to − 0.258; p < 0.001). Also, weak and very weak significant inverse correlations were found between PAL and all items of the GHQ-12. Weak inverse correlations were found between PSS scores and mental health, Coping, and Stress (r: −0.201 to − 0.304; p < 0.001). Likewise, weak and very weak inverse correlations, although statistically significant, were found between the PSS scores and the responses to the GHQ-12 items. Food insecurity is an established barrier to antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence among people living with HIV (LWHIV). While insufficient access to food reliably impedes medication adherence, the link between food insecurity and ART nonadherence has not been fully explained. In addition, depression is reliably associated with both food insecurity and ART nonadherence, but again the link between food insecurity and depression is not understood. A potential explanatory mechanism in the associations among food insecurity, depression and ART nonadherence is the experience of food insecurity stigma (FI-stigma). The current study tested FI-stigma in relation to depression as explanatory mechanisms in the association between food insecurity and ART nonadherence. Men and women (n = 495) LWHIV in the southeastern United States completed confidential surveys that included measures of food insecurity, FI-stigma, depression, and ART adherence. Results from the serial mediation model indicated significant direct effects of food insecurity and depression on ART adherence. In addition, food insecurity was indirectly associated with ART adherence through FI-stigma and depression symptoms. Results suggest that the stigmatization of food insecurity predicts increased depression which in turn predicts ART nonadherence, with both FI-stigma and depression symptoms partially mediating the relationship between food insecurity and ART nonadherence. Background: The effect of an intervention based on Mediterranean diet on reducing recurrence risk or subsyndromal depressive symptoms in recovered depressed patients has not been explored. Methods: The PREDIDEP study was a two-year randomized trial designed to assess the effect of the Mediterranean Diet enriched with extra virgin olive oil on depression recurrence. At baseline and at four, eight, 16, 20, and 24 months of follow-up, depressive symptoms were evaluated through the Beck Depression inventory. Cox regression analysis was fitted to assess the role of dietary intervention on the risk of depression recurrence. Mixed effects linear models were used to assess changes in depressive subsyndromal symptoms according to the intervention. Results: After two years of intervention, the dietary intervention group (n = 103) compared to the control group (n = 93) showed no differences regarding depression recurrence risk as main outcome. As secondary outcomes, an improvement of depressive symptoms was yielded at four (−2.15; 95% CI = −4.00 to −0.29) and eight months (−2.42; 95% CI = −4.17 to −0.67) in the intervention group, with no changes in control group. Moreover, at 20 months, significant differences were found between groups (−3.35; 95% CI = −6.08 to −0.61). Conclusions: An intervention with Mediterranean diet in patients with previous depressive episodes might contribute to the reduction of depressive subsyndromal symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study aimed to assess the association between vitamin D and sleep health and to investigate whether depression could mediate this relationship. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was performed using the 2005–2014 US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data. The logistic regression models were conducted to evaluate association of serum vitamin D concentrations with sleep health and depression. Mediation analyses were conducted to investigate the mediated effects of depression on the association of vitamin D with sleep health. Results: In multivariate logistic models, vitamin D was found to be negatively associated with an increased risk of poor sleep health, with an odds ratio (OR) of vitamin D deficiency versus sufficiency was 1.256 (95% CI = 1.084–1.455). Additionally, univariate logistic models showed that vitamin D was also negatively associated with depression risk (vitamin D deficiency vs. sufficiency: OR = 1.699, 95% CI = (1.373–2.103). Further mediation analyses showed that the association of vitamin D with sleep health was mediated by depression, with the mediating effects of depression accounted for 44.56% of the total effects. Conclusion: Vitamin D affects sleep health directly and indirectly through depression. The results suggest that interventions increasing intake of vitamin D should be prioritized to promote sleep health of persons with or at risk of depression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although past research has documented the effects of social media addiction on mental health, it remains unclear how and when such impacts occur. To fill this gap, we investigate the intervening mechanism of mindfulness and the moderating role of healing use for social media addiction's impact on depression through the lens of the conservation of resources theory and the attentional bias perspective. Analysis of data collected from 198 employees reveals that social media addiction (1) depletes the energy resources necessary to reduce depression and (2) consumes attentional resources and directs an individual's attention to the salient activities that feed addictive use, leaving individuals with less attentional resources to devote to activities that promote mental health. Interestingly, social media's healing use reduces the harmful effects of social media addiction on depression. Children with a parent who suffers from depression are more likely to develop internalizing problems themselves. Moreover, poverty is an additional risk factor for child internalizing problems. According to models of intergenerational transmission of depression, various environmental mechanisms may account for this transmission. However, very few studies have included multiple mediators, as well as both parents in low-income samples. In this study of low-income families, we measured parental depressive symptoms, child internalizing problems, and examined three potential mediators: parent-child interaction quality, spouse's depressive symptoms, and coparenting conflict. Results indicated that the transmission of paternal depressive symptoms to child internalizing problems was entirely accounted for by these three mediators. The transmission of maternal depressive symptoms to child internalizing problems was mediated partially by coparenting conflict, but this link remained largely direct. These results underscore the need to consider both parents and coparenting conflict in clinical interventions targeting internalizing problems among preschoolers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The thermosensory system is relevant to both the conceptualization and treatment of depression. There is evidence that depression is associated with changes in thermoregulatory functioning, and that thermosensory pathways can be recruited to influence affect and reduce depressive symptoms. In this study, we investigated the relationship between severity of depressive symptoms and changes to measures of subjective experiences associated with thermoregulatory processes as well as the relationship between severity of depressive symptoms and affective responses to warm stimuli, specifically frequency of warmth-seeking behavior. Participants (N = 529) completed measures of depressive symptoms, subjective experiences associated with thermoregulatory processes (i.e., perceived sweating and preferred ambient temperature) and frequency of warmth-seeking behavior (e.g., long hot baths, saunas, etc.). We demonstrate that, controlling for age and gender, greater severity of depressive symptoms is associated with greater perceived sweating and lower preferred ambient temperature. Furthermore, we demonstrate that greater severity of depressive symptoms is associated with more frequent warmth-seeking behavior, and that something other than thermal preference (i.e., stated preference for warmer temperature) is driving this behavior. These data highlight the importance of incorporating the thermoregulatory system in our conceptualization of the pathophysiology of depression and support the potential to recruit thermosensory pathways to target depressive symptoms. Objective: To identify and describe in-session interaction patterns between psychoanalytic therapists and adolescents diagnosed with major depressive disorder, comparing good and poor outcome cases. Method: Audio recordings for 100 psychotherapy sessions from 10 Short-Term Psychoanalytic Psychotherapies were analysed using the Adolescent Psychotherapy Q-Set (APQ). The cases and sessions were evenly divided into two groups (poor outcome and good outcome, 5 patients and 50 sessions per group). Interaction patterns were analysed with an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), while group differences were assessed through t-tests. Results: The EFA revealed three factors: (1) "Open, engaged young person working collaboratively with a therapist to make sense of their experiences", (2) "Directive therapist with a young person fluctuating in emotional state and unwilling to explore", (3) "Young person expressing anger and irritation and challenging the therapist". Factor 1 was significantly more prominent in the good outcome cases, while factor 3, on the contrary, was more significantly related to the poor outcome cases. Factor 2 was equally present in both groups. Conclusion: Besides reinforcing to researchers and clinicians the association between a collaborative psychotherapy process with good outcomes, our findings also provide empirical data regarding the role of anger in adolescent depression and the psychotherapy process. Objective: Although theorists and researchers have stressed the importance of rupture resolution episodes for successful treatment process and outcome, little is known about patients' retrospective reflections about rupture resolution. Aim: The overarching goal of the present study was to use a mixed-method approach to examine patients' retrospective reflections on the frequency, types, and consequences of rupture resolution episodes and the association between rupture resolution episodes and patients' attachment orientation and treatment outcome. Method: Thirty-eight patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) were interviewed, on average three years after termination, about their experiences of ruptures in short-term dynamic psychotherapy. Results: Thirty patients reported having experienced at least one rupture, with patients who showed less improvement in depressive symptoms more likely to report having had a rupture. Ruptures were judged as having been successfully resolved for 13 of these patients; suggesting that patients with a high level of attachment anxiety were less likely to be judged as having had a successful resolution. Patients whose ruptures were successfully resolved with the therapist's help reported better treatment process and outcome than patients whose ruptures were not successfully resolved. Background: The Revised Illness Perceptions Questionnaire (IPQ-R) is a well-established measure for measuring illness representations with sound psychometric properties. However, one limitation is that it provides a generic measure of illness representations and lacks specificity to individual health conditions, making it difficult to capture the nuances of illness beliefs for different populations. Objective: The aim of this study was to develop reliable and valid versions of the IPQ-R for young people with anxiety and depression to better understand how they perceive and cognitively represent the course, severity, impact, and treatability of their anxiety and depression. Methods: This mixed-methods study consisted of a qualitative study, involving semi-structured interviews (n = 26) followed by think-aloud interviews (n = 13), and a quantitative study (n = 349), resulting in the development of the IPQ-Anxiety (IPQ-A) and IPQ-Depression (IPQ-D). Item development is reported, along with the psychometric properties of the measures. Concurrent validity was assessed by correlating the IPQ-A and IPQ-D with the Brief Illness Perceptions Questionnaire (B-IPQ) across equivalent dimensions. Results: Results suggest that the IPQ-A, IPQ-D, B-IPQ-A and B-IPQ-D are valid and reliable tools for measuring mental illness representations. The measures show acceptable model fit, high factor loadings, and good to excellent internal consistency, test – retest reliability across subscales and concurrent validity with mental health measures. Conclusions: The development of these measures represents an important step in the field of youth mental health by providing the opportunity for reliable assessment of young people's conceptualisations of their anxiety and depression. Background and Objective: We examined the possibility that reactions to climate change take two forms: distress, which may be adaptive, and symptoms of mental disorders, which may not be. Design and Method: In a national sample of Polish adults (n = 1133), we measured climate change distress (experiencing unpleasant emotions and feelings due to climate change), climate-related symptoms of mental disorders (e.g., problems sleeping and problems working and planning), generalized anxiety, and depression. Results: Zero-inflated Poisson regression analyses of the occurrence of climate-related symptoms of mental disorders found two latent classes: People who experienced symptoms of the disorder and those who did not. For all eight symptoms, climate change distress predicted membership in the latent class of people who experienced a symptom, whereas how often people in the non-zero latent class experienced each symptom was positively related to generalized anxiety but was not related to distress or depression. Conclusions: These results suggest that reactions to climate change take two forms. Some people do not experience climate change-related symptoms of mental disorders, and some do. People who experience symptoms have higher levels of climate change distress, and the frequency with which they experience these symptoms is determined by their dispositional, generalized anxiety. Depression is associated with increased maintenance of negative affect (NA) and reduced – blunted and short-lived – maintenance of positive affect (PA). Studies have focused on factors associated with the maintenance of NA, specifically, the emotion regulation strategy of brooding and the capacity to hold negative affective experiences in working memory (WM). Despite its theoretical importance, less attention has been given to factors associated with the maintenance of PA in depression. This study aims to synthesise factors playing a role in the maintenance of both NA and PA. Specifically, we used self-reported assessment of PA and NA regulation and performance-based measures of NA and PA processing in WM to predict depressive symptoms severity. Participants (N = 219) completed the Affective Maintenance Task (AMT, Mikels et al., 2008), which provided performance-based measures of PA and NA maintenance, and filled out questionnaires assessing brooding, positive rumination and depressive severity. Brooding, positive rumination and AMT-based measures of positive (but not negative) affective information processing were independently associated with depressive symptoms. Objectives: This study aims to increase the understanding of suicidality in older adults by investigating the prevalence, characteristics, risk and protective factors of suicidal phenomena in community-dwelling older adults (60+) in Flanders, specifically of a current wish to die (WTD) and lifetime suicidal ideation and behaviour (LSIB). Method: Cross-sectional data from the Belgian Ageing Studies (BAS) is used (N = 3050). The BAS aims to monitor the needs and quality of life of community-dwelling older adults through a standardised survey. Statistical methods used are bivariate analyses and binary logistic regression. Results: Prevalence rates of 4.8% for WTD and 8.2% for LSIB are found. LSIB is the biggest predictor of a current WTD, followed by requiring support on three domains, elder abuse, depression and subjective cognitive complaints, and elder abuse were significant risk factors for both WTD and LSIB. Limited effects of protective factors were found. Conclusion: Previous research regarding risk factors to be confirmed in this study, and new insights on the effect of elder abuse, subjective indicators of cognitive complaints and requiring support are added. Objectives: Depression is a prevalent mental health condition that also often affects older adults. The PROACTIVE psychosocial intervention was developed to reduce depressive symptomatology among older adults within primary care settings in Brazil. An important psychological marker that affects individuals' aging experience relates to how old people feel. Known as subjective age, this marker has been shown to be a risk factor for experiencing greater depressive symptoms if individuals report feeling older than their (chronological) age. In this study, we perform secondary analyses of the PROACTIVE cluster-randomized controlled trial to examine the role of subjective age. Method: The sample included 715 Brazilian older adults (74% female, Mage 68.6, SD = 6.9, age range: 60–94 years) randomized to intervention (n = 360, 74% female, Mage 68.4, SD = 6.6, age range: 60–89 years) or control (n = 355, 74% female, Mage 68.9, SD = 7.2, age range: 60–94 years) arms. Here our primary outcome was depressive symptoms at the 8-month follow-up assessed with the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) as a continuous variable. Our previous analyses demonstrated improved recovery from depression at follow-up in the intervention compared with the control arm. Results: Relevant main effects and interactions in regression models for PHQ-9 presented here found that those reporting older subjective age had worse depressive symptoms at follow-up but that they benefitted more from the intervention when initial levels of depression were high. For participants who reported younger subjective ages the intervention showed positive effects that were independent of initial levels of depression. Objectives: This study aimed to identify and evaluate psychological interventions or strategies designed to reduce relocation stress in older people making the permanent transition into residential aged care. Method: A scoping review following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for scoping reviews and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) was conducted. An electronic search of nine databases and the search engine google scholar was completed in December 2022. Article screening and quality appraisal was undertaken independently by at least two reviewers. Results: Eight full-text articles were included for review, from which four psychological interventions were identified: 1) Resident peer support; 2) Life review; 3) Mental Health Service for Older Adults; 4) The Program to Enhance Adjustment to Residential Living. No interventions were implemented before transitioning into care; all were implemented within three months of resident relocation into an aged care facility. Conclusion: The transition to residential aged care is an inherently distressing experience. The absence of interventions implemented during the pre- and mid-transition phases presents a gap in the literature and suggests an opportunity for early intervention. As population ageing continues to increase, there is a pressing need for the development and implementation of interventions aimed at reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety for older people undertaking this major life transition. Objectives: Previous studies on the associations between Internet use and older people's depression have mostly focused on single types of online activities, especially online social engagement. The current study investigated the diversity of purposes of Internet use and its interaction with the time spent online in shaping older Chinese Internet users' depression. Method: A sample of 974 Internet users aged 60 and above was adopted from the 2020 China Family Panel Studies wave. We adopted a latent class analysis (LCA) to explore the diverse purposes of internet usage. Results: The participants were classified into three distinct types: socializers, basic users, and maximizers. Basic users and maximizers use the Internet for various purposes, despite different intensities; socializers use the Internet only to keep connected with families and friends. Compared with basic users and maximizers, a longer time spent online among socializers was significantly associated with a higher level of depression. Conclusion: This study calls for a closer examination of online profiles among older Internet users; more attention should be paid to the potential harms of excessive Internet use for social reasons only among older adults. Considering that diagnostic decisions about mTBI are often predicated on clinical symptom criteria, it is imperative to determine which initial presentation features of mTBI have prognostic significance for identifying those at high risk for long-term functional impairment. Zoom interview Participants: Male, former NCAA Division I, and professional-level National Football League (NFL) athletes (n = 177) between the ages of 27 and 85 (M = 54.1, SD = 14.7). Cross-sectional case-control. Main Measures: History of mild TBI, history of loss of consciousness (LOC), depression symptoms, insomnia, neurobehavioral symptoms. Number of mTBI exposures did not predict neurobehavioral symptoms (B = 0.21, SE = 0.18, p = 0.23), but number of mTBI + LOC events did (B = 2.27, SE = 0.64, p = <.001). Further analysis revealed that the number of mTBI + LOC events predicted neurobehavioral symptoms indirectly through both depression (B = 0.85, 95% CI = [0.27, 1.52) and insomnia (B = 0.81, 95% CI = [0.3, 1.4]). Further, the direct effect of mTBI + LOC events on neurobehavioral symptoms became non-significant when depression and insomnia were added to the model (B = 0.78, SE = 0.45, p = 0.08). Findings support LOC at time of injury as an important predictor of long-term outcomes. Additionally, results suggest depression and insomnia as potential mediators in the association between mTBI + LOC and neurobehavioral symptoms. Little is known about the origin and associated factors of subjective memory complaints (SMCs) in the young population, although they might be closely related to the psychophysiological states produced by stress exposure, such as anxiety and depression. In this regard, resilience has been related to a reduction in these negative states, as well as to more adaptive hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis functioning. We aimed to investigate the importance of depression, anxiety, and HPA axis activity in SMCs in the young population. We also analysed the relationship between resilience and SMCs through the mediation of depression, anxiety, and the cortisol awakening response (CAR). To do so, we measured SMCs, depression and anxiety states, resilience, and the CAR in 77 healthy young people. Both depression and anxiety were associated with SMCs. In addition, greater resilience was related to fewer SMCs through depression and anxiety. However, the CAR was not related to SMCs, and it did not mediate the relationship between resilience and SMCs. These results suggest that negative affective states have greater importance in SMCs than HPA functioning in this age group, and they also highlight the importance of resilience in the psychological adjustment to stressful situations. This pilot study tested a single-session digital values affirmation for behavioral activation (VABA) intervention. Hypotheses predicted the VABA intervention would be more effective than an active control condition in improving mood, decreasing COVID-19 fear/worry and depressive symptoms, and promoting positively reinforcing behaviors during early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were a diverse sample of undergraduate students (N = 296) under a state-wide lockdown. Students were randomized to either VABA, a 10-min values clarification and affirmation task, or Control, a time- and attention-matched task. Positive and negative affects were assessed pre- and post-intervention. At next-day follow-up, positive and negative affects were reassessed, as well as past 24-h behavioral activation and depressive symptoms. Within-group increases in positive affect were observed in both conditions (VABA d = 0.39; Control d = 0.19). However, VABA produced a significantly larger increase than Control (F[2] = 3.856, p =.022, d = 0.22). At 24-h follow-up, behavioral activation, which was significantly higher in VABA versus Control (t[294] = −5.584, p <.001, d = 0.65), predicted fewer depressive symptoms (R2 change =.019, β = -.134, p =.003). The complex interplay of fear, attention, and behavior toward bodily sensations with psychopathological symptoms and how they mutually influence and potentially reinforce one another remains to be fully elucidated. In this study, we used a network analytical approach to unravel these complex interactions. Specifically, we aimed to identify central symptoms and etiologically relevant factors that might be associated with anxiety and depressive core symptoms. To this end, the following clusters were assessed in 791 adults: interoceptive fear, interoceptive attention, maladaptive behaviors related to bodily sensations, and core symptoms of anxiety and depression. This network was modeled using a Gaussian Graphical Model. Central variables (nodes) were identified using centrality indices and bridge analysis. Self-examination and attention to bodily sensations emerged as central nodes. Moreover, time spent paying attention to bodily sensations, fear of anxiety-related sensations, and self-examination were identified as central bridge nodes, that is, central nodes connecting psychopathologically relevant symptom clusters. The present study indicates that fear of bodily sensations, the amount of attention and time spent focusing on somatic sensations, and self-examination are central factors. The findings suggest potential targets for future longitudinal studies on the impact of these factors for the escalation of anxiety and depressive symptoms. Background: Depression is prevalent among individuals who smoke cigarettes and increases risk for relapse. A previous clinical trial suggests that Goal2Quit, a behavioral activation-based smoking cessation mobile app, effectively increases smoking abstinence and reduces depressive symptoms. Objective: Secondary analyses were conducted on these trial data to identify predictors of success in depression-specific digitalized cessation interventions. Methods: Adult who smoked cigarettes (age = 38.4 ± 10.3, 53% women) were randomized to either use Goal2Quit for 12 weeks (N = 103), paired with a 2-week sample of nicotine replacement therapy (patch and lozenge) or to a Treatment-As-Usual (TAU) control (N = 47). The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator was utilized to identify a subset of baseline variables predicting either smoking or depression intervention outcomes. The retained predictors were then fitted via linear regression models to determine relations to each intervention outcome. Results: Relative to TAU, only individuals who spent significant time using Goal2Quit (56 ± 46 min) were more likely to reduce cigarette use by at least 50% after 12 weeks, whereas those who spent minimal time using Goal2Quit (10 ± 2 min) did not exhibit significant changes. An interaction between educational attainment and treatment group revealed that, as compared to TAU, only app users with an educational degree beyond high school exhibited significant reductions in depression. Conclusions: The findings highlight the importance of tailoring depression-specific digital cessation interventions to individuals' unique engagement needs and educational level. Although there are studies showing the effects of physical exercises on depression, there are not many studies that clearly demonstrate the effect of aerobic exercise in geriatric depression with a clear protocol. To examine the effect of aerobic exercises on depression in geriatric individuals. 38 sedentary individuals diagnosed with geriatric depression participated in this prospective cohort study. Vital signs, depression levels and quality of life were evaluated before and after the program. Statistical significance was accepted as p < 0.05 in the analyzes. The respiratory frequency, Clinically Useful Depression Outcome Scale scores (p < 0.05), blood pressure and heart rate values (p < 0.001) decreased, and the change in median quality of life values increased (p < 0.001) after the aerobic exercise program. Aerobic exercises have positive effects on geriatric depression. The effectiveness of treatments can be increased by adding aerobic exercises to geriatric depression treatment protocols. Background: Caregivers to intensive care unit survivors are vulnerable to caregiver burden, which has been demonstrated to have consequences to patients' and caregivers' mental and physical health. Potentially modifiable factors should be explored so that interventions may be developed. Methods: Ninety-one anticipated caregivers were prospectively assessed both at a southwestern trauma intensive care unit during their patient's admission and at home via remote interview 3 months after intensive care unit admission. Caregiver depression, posttraumatic stress symptoms, experiences, and perceived burden were assessed. Results: At follow up, there was a significant negative correlation between caregiver burden and understanding of their patient's condition (P < 0.001) and intensive care unit events (P = 0.008). Caregivers with lower understanding of their patient's injury/illness had significantly greater depressive symptoms (P = 0.04). Conclusions: Education and knowledge of intensive care unit events regarding their patient may influence perceived burden among caregivers. Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on mental health, and individuals with certain preexisting morbidities—such as obesity—may have disproportionately experienced pandemic-related stress. We aimed to examine whether being obese or overweight was associated with worse mood and trauma among those infected with COVID-19. Methods: Data were collected as part of a larger longitudinal survey study (n = 591) examining the psychological impact of COVID-19. Complete baseline data for those who reported testing positive from April 2020 through June 2021 were examined. Results and conclusions: Body mass index was correlated with depression (r = 0.13, P <.01) and generalized anxiety disorder (r = 0.10, P =.02), but not with posttraumatic stress disorder (r = 0.06, P =.16). Multivariable analyses revealed that body mass index was no longer a unique predictor, except for those with a body mass index >40 kg/m2, suggesting that other sociodemographic factors, not obesity, were driving mood symptoms for those infected with COVID-19. Background: Parenting a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may lead to emotional distress. However, it has been recognized that it can also be accompanied with positive experiences that may conduce parents to posttraumatic growth (PTG). Few studies have investigated the factors that may be associated with growth. The present study aimed to assess the role of maternal perceptions, coping strategies and depressive symptoms to PTG. Method: In this cross-sectional study, 123 mothers of ASD offspring completed self-reported questionnaires to assess posttraumatic growth (PTGI); coping strategies (Βrief-COPE); perceptions about ASD (B-IPQ) and depressive symptoms (PHQ-9). Hierarchical regression analysis was used to assess their independent associations. Results: A significant proportion of mothers (56.1%) reported moderate to high growth levels (PTGI ≥ 63). Nearly half of the mothers (46.3%) reported clinically significant depressive symptoms. Engagement (b = 0.361), cognitive reframing (b = 0.214), personal control (b = 0.200) and depressive symptoms (b = −0.232) were independently and significantly associated with PTG. Conclusions: Mothers of children with ASD may experience moderate to high PTG. Engagement, cognitive reframing, personal control and depressive symptoms were significant predictors of growth level. In the United States, it is reported that 1.4% of the general population commits suicide. It has been postulated that antiseizure medications (ASMs) can lead to the development of suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior; however, this risk is still very low and has yet to be precisely established. This narrative review evaluates the risk of suicide-related events (SREs) in subjects taking ASMs for various neurological disorders. Screening tools for suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior are also discussed. References for this article were found using PubMed/MEDLINE. Although some ASMs can be associated with SREs, this is not yet clearly established. The mechanisms involved in suicide risk in subjects taking ASMs are multifactorial. The bidirectional relationship between depression and epilepsy, as well as other associations, should be kept in mind when interpreting any impact of ASMs in PWE. Screening for SREs, close monitoring of subjects taking ASMs are the most appropriate strategies to minimize suicide risk. More efforts should be made to achieve accurate risk stratification through prognostic models that could be applied to subjects taking ASMs. Studies exploring the association between ASMs and suicide should consider ASMs individually and control for prior SREs. For the past few years, I've been seeking out books that frustrate many readers—and sometimes myself among them. They are frequently described as sketchy, short, fragmented, diaristic—when the reader is being kind—and lazy, boring, or pointless when she is not. The official category (on the back of the book, right above the ISBN) sometimes reads Poetry, sometimes Novel, sometimes Memoir, sometimes Essay—or, sometimes Essay/Poetry or Essay/Literature. Some of the more famous examples include Sarah Manguso's Ongoingness, Maggie Nelson's Bluets, Claudia Rankine's Don't Let Me Be Lonely. In this essay, I will propose and define a new genre in contemporary literature: the lyric diary—a slender volume in which a depressed, middle-age, female first-person narrator records the mundane experiences of her everyday life alongside facts, ideas, and quotations in flat, affectless 'shreds' of prose. Blending elements of the confessional poem with the diary and other non-literary modes of historical women's writing, the lyric diary rejects plot and the narrative arc for the lyric's associative logic and the diary's serial, episodic movement. This study was conducted to determine the smartphone addiction and severity of depressive symptoms of high school students. In this descriptive cross-sectional and correlational study, the sample consisted of 1744 high school students. In the study, data were collected using a Descriptive Questionnaire, the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Form, and the Depression Scale for Children. Data were analyzed in independent groups Student’s t test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and a multiple regression model. It was determined that the students’ mean smartphone addiction score was affected by gender, grade level, school success, having problems with the family, relationship with family, relationship with friends, and social self-evaluation. The mean depression score was affected by family type, economic status, social self-evaluation. According to the multiple regression analysis, effects of socio-demographic variables on smartphone addiction were 25%. This study evaluated the prevalence and associated factors of depression and generalized anxiety among LGBTQ+ in five medical schools in Thailand. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) were used to assess major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), respectively, and multivariable logistic regression was employed to identify associated factors. Of 1,322 students, 412 (31.16%) identified as LGBTQ+. The prevalence for MDD and GAD among LGBTQ+ students were 32.77% and 17.23%, respectively. Significant associated factors for both MDD and GAD were a history of psychiatric illness (AOR for MDD = 2.32, p = .020; AOR for GAD = 3.67, p < .001), educational problems (AOR for MDD = 6.62, p < .001; AOR for GAD = 5.12, p < .001), and dissatisfaction with gender identity or sexual orientation (AOR for MDD = 1.92, p = .019; AOR for GAD = 2.47, p = .005). Additional factors associated with MDD were preclinical years (AOR = 2.30, p = .023), financial struggles (AOR = 2.05, p = .021), and inadequate peer support (AOR = 2.57, p = .044). In conclusion, nearly one-third and one-fifth of Thai LGBTQ+ medical students suffer from MDD and GAD, respectively. Our findings suggest that Thai medical schools should promote LGBTQ+ inclusivity to enhance students’ identity satisfaction. A bacterial brain abscess (BA) is a focal brain infection with largely unknown long-term implications. This prospective study assessed the frequency of fatigue and symptoms of depression at 8 weeks and 1 year after BA and examined the relationship between fatigue, depressive symptoms, and cognitive status. Twenty BA-patients (age 17–73; 45% female) were assessed for fatigue, depression, memory, and executive functions. Fatigue rates were 40-65% at 8 weeks and 25-33% at 1 year on various fatigue questionnaires. Patient Health Questionnaire indicated symptoms of depression in 10% at the 8-week follow-up only. Relevant comorbidities and vocational outcomes were not associated with fatigue or symptoms of depression. Mean fatigue scores improved significantly between the two-time points. Greater fatigue was related to subjective problems with working memory, inhibition, self-monitoring, and emotional control and worse objective verbal memory performance. Symptoms of depression were associated with one out of two fatigue measures. We conclude that fatigue is common in the first year after BA, and higher levels of fatigue are related to more cognitive problems. Symptoms of clinical depression were rare. All participants provided 1 cm long hair samples at the beginning and end of the treatment. HCC and hair cortisone levels (HCNC) were determined. Meteorological data and duration of sick leave were considered as potential covariates. Burnout and depression were assessed with self-ratings, the latter also with examiner ratings.There were no significant group differences in glucocorticoid levels. Treatment led to a decrease in both depression severity and hair glucocorticoid concentration in inpatients, while lower HCNC in particular predicted a greater reduction in depression severity. Moreover, meteorological data and the duration of sick leave were also found to have an effect on hair glucocorticoid concentrations.These results suggest that multimodal inpatient treatment of clinical burnout considerably reduced stress on both a psychological and biological level. In parallel, hair glucocorticoids appear to be sensitive biomarkers for the evaluation of treatment success and prediction. Previous studies report low self-concept clarity in depression, but they are limited to nonclinical samples and self-report questionnaires. To comprehensively understand the relationship between self-concept clarity and depression, this study expanded the range of depression to include clinical samples and explored self-concept clarity through a behavioral task. In Study 1, the self-concept clarity scale was administered to 48 nonclinical and 53 clinical participants, and the quadratic model best explained the relationship. In Study 2, 24 undergraduates and 21 depressed patients completed the me/not-me task. Shorter reaction time and greater internal consistency of negative self-descriptive words were associated with higher depression severity. AbstractDepression is a serious psychiatric disorder with a high incidence of morbidity and mortality and psilocybin with psychotherapy has emerged as a promising potential in the treatment of depressive disorders. A review of psilocybin use in patients with depressive disorders is presented.A search was conducted investigating the use of psilocybin in patients with depressive disorders and treatment resistant depression via PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Google Scholar in October 2023; all publication types were permitted and limited for English-language. Keyword search terms included: “psilocybin” or “psychedelics” and “depression”, or “major depressive disorder”, or “treatment-resistant depression”. Controlled and uncontrolled clinical trials utilizing psilocybin with psychological support for major depressive disorder and treatment-resistant depression, as well as in patients with depression and cancer related anxiety have demonstrated immediate and sustained antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. Psilocybin has a favorable safety profile and was well-tolerated in clinical trials. Psilocybin’s abuse potential is low and clinical research suggests the potential of psilocybin to produce rapid and lasting antidepressant effects up to 12 months post-treatment. Psilocybin may offer a valuable contribution as an option to the currently available pharmacological and psychotherapeutic agents for patients with major depressive disorders, treatment-resistant depression as well as for patients with depression and comorbid terminal cancer. The resurgence of interest in psychedelic substances for psychiatric treatment has sparked both excitement and scepticism within the scientific community. This paper addresses the moralisation and hype surrounding psychedelic therapies. Through a systematic review of the literature and a detailed case study, we illustrate that the therapeutic effect of psychedelics is not solely pharmacological but is instead facilitated by their ability to enhance psychotherapy. The paper explores the historical context of psychedelics in psychiatry, their mechanism of action, and evidence of their efficacy in treating depression. We highlight the necessity of integrating psychedelics with psychotherapeutic interventions and emphasise the importance of methodological rigour and ethical standards in psychedelic research and practice. By presenting an informed understanding of psychedelic treatments, we advocate for their consideration as legitimate alternatives alongside traditional therapies, offering a potential paradigm shift in psychiatric care. AbstractObjectivesMethodsResultsConclusionThe purpose of this investigation was to verify the association between mental health (MH) indicators with walking capacity in patients with PAD.Two hundred and forty-six patients with PAD and claudication symptoms participated in this study. Physical function was assessed objectively with the 6-min walk test (6MWT) and subjectively using the Walking Impairment Questionnaire (WIQ). MH was assessed by the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref (WHOQOL-Bref) (six questions were selected − 1, 2, 10, 16, 19, and 26). Patients were divided into tertile groups according to their composite z-score for mental health (Low MH, Middle MH, and High MH).The High MH group presented higher scores (p < 0.05) for the WIQ (distance = 26.8 ± 25.6, speed = 25.4 ± 17.3, and stairs = 33.6 ± 27.5), claudication onset distance (161.6 ± 83.6 m), and total walking distance (352.9 ± 79.6 m) compared to Low MH (WIQ distance = 14.8 ± 16.2, 17.7 ± 13.0, and stairs = 22.7 ± 20.7). Additionally, the High MH group presented a longer claudication onset distance (115.5 ± 70.5 m), and total walking distance in 6MWT (306.6 ± 83.2 m), and higher scores in the total walking distance compared to Middle MH (309.5 ± 93.6 m) (p < 0.05).In patients with PAD, MH was positively associated with walking capacity. AbstractBackground: Prior research suggests that sexual minority status is related to victimization, mental health issues, and substance use. However, few studies have sought to connect these relationships in a way supported by theory, and fewer have utilized probability and/or nationally representative samples. Objective: The current study seeks to test the relationships among these variables, guided by general strain theory (GST). Methods: One wave of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health dataset (Add Health) (N = 14,121) and path modeling in Mplus are utilized. Results: Models run separately by race/ethnicity suggest that the relationship among these variables largely support expectations from GST, but with some notable differences by race/ethnicity. AbstractThe effectiveness of psychotherapy for depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been well-established in community samples but its effectiveness in carceral settings is less clear. The present systematic review thus sought to evaluate the effects of psychological therapies for PTSD and depression in incarcerated samples. We searched five databases from inception through January 2023, for eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Two reviewers independently reviewed the study eligibility, extracted the data, assessed the intervention reporting, and evaluated the risk of bias. Eleven RCTs met inclusion criteria, five addressing treatment of PTSD, and six addressing treatment of depression. Interventions produced mixed findings with respect to symptom reduction relative to active controls, with a significant risk of methodological bias in virtually all studies. Of the interventions studied, interpersonal psychotherapy produced the most encouraging, though clearly still tentative results for the treatment of depression. Results highlight the need for increased methodological rigor and additional research to examine the effectiveness of interventions that have yielded positive results in community samples.
