Composites made with a hybrid metal matrix have gained importance in recent times. In this study, the mechanical and tribological properties of Al7075/W/MoS2 hybrid composite materials were investigated using ultrasonic assisted stir casting method. The matrix material used was an aluminium alloy (Al7075), while the reinforcement comprised of tungsten (W) and molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) particles. MoS2 was added to the molten metal in a constant proportion of 1%, while tungsten particles were added in increments of 1%, 2%, and 3% to the matrix. The hybrid composite samples underwent mechanical characterisation to determine their tensile, impact, density, and hardness test, as well as tribological characterisation. The microstructure was also examined using a scanning electron microscope to understand the uniform distribution of reinforcement particles. The findings exhibited that addition of W and MoS2, characteristics improved steadily as compared to the base metal. The composites exhibited remarkable microstructure stability, high strength, and hardness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
