The article discusses what the author refers to as the utopian idea of implementing a universal basic income (UBI) in which a government pays each adult a guaranteed salary regardless of wealth, employment income, or work status. The 1516 book "Utopia" by Thomas More is addressed, along with support to a UBI from the late conservative economists Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek. A potential UBI program in America is examined, along with politics in Finland, Canada, and Italy.
