The article discusses Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and his impact on the political and social conditions in the Middle East as of December 2012, focusing on an assessment of Morsi's decision to issue an emergency decree which gives him additional powers such as immunity from judicial challenges in regards to his political decisions. It states that critics of Morsi claim that his ability to take any and all necessary measures to protect the national security of Egypt equates to a dictatorship. The state of democracy in Egypt is also examined.
