The Medieval castle of Beynes is a perfect example of these fortresses born of feudalism, in the context of the struggle against the expansion of the Capétiens. But it kept a strategic value until the end of the Middle Ages, initially because of the Hundred Years ' War, then wars of religion, particularly virulent in the Parisian west. Lastly, far from being abandoned at this time, it was to become a means for the powerful to acquire possessions close to the capital. The castle has been fully excavated by the author of the article and these excavations make it possible to go well beyond the architectural analysis of elevations, and to propose a fine evolution of the building and its modes of occupation. One thus sees successively forming the home of a feudal baron, barracks, and finally apartments for the kings and their favourites. Moreover, this study was the occasion to take up again the study of the evolution of the borough from which one thus could understand the genesis and the development (or checks) caused by the castle., Le château médiéval de Beynes est un parfait exemple de ces forteresses nées de la féodalité, dans le contexte des luttes contre l'expansion capétienne. Mais il a gardé une valeur stratégique jusqu'à la fin du Moyen-Âge, d'abord à cause de la guerre de Cent Ans, puis des guerres de religion, particulièrement virulentes dans l'ouest parisien. Enfin, loin d'être abandonné à ce moment, il deviendra un moyen pour les puissants du jour de se possessionner près de la capitale, à telle enseigne qu'un grand architecte comme Philibert Delorme ne dédaignera pas d'y travailler. Ce château a bénéficié de fouilles relativement amples menées par l'auteur de l'article. Elles permettent d'aller bien au-delà de l'analyse architecturale des élévations, et de proposer une évolution fine du bâtiment et de ses modes d'occupation. On voit ainsi se constituer successivement le logis seigneurial d'un baron féodal, un casernement, et enfin des appartements pour les rois et leurs favorites. En outre, cette étude a été l'occasion de reprendre celle de l'évolution du bourg, bourg castrai dont on a ainsi pu comprendre la genèse et le développement (ou les blocages) engendrés par le château., Dufay Bruno.
