In this study, 5 specimens of antenna codlet Bregmaceros atlanticus Goode and Bean, 1886 were collected during purse seine fishing on 25 December 2010 at a depth 120 m from Iskenderun Bay. This is the first occurrence of B. atlanticus from Iskenderun Bay and third occurrence from Turkish waters that indicate possible establishment of the population of B. atlanticus in Turkish Marine waters.

One specimen of Bellottia apoda Giglioli, 1883 was caught by a bottom commercial trawler at a depth of 155 m on 28 October 2009. This is the first record of B. apoda in Turkish waters of Eastern Mediterranean. Morphometric and meristic characters of B. apoda caught are described.

Genetic pathway of colonization of Lessepsian lizardfish Saurida undosquamis populations on the way from the Red Sea to Mediterranean Sea was examined. The lizardfish (Saurida undosquamis) samples were collected from the Red Sea (Jeddah) and Mediterranean Sea (Syrian Coast (Lattakia Port), Iskenderun Bay, Mersin Bay, Antalya Bay), and analyzed using mtDNA 16S gene region with mtDNA PCR-RFLP method with 6 restriction enzymes (BsurI AluI, Hin6I, RsaI, XhoI, EheI). A total of 16 haplotypes were detected from 150 individuals. AAAAAA haplotype was the most common occurred in all sampling sites present in 40% of individuals. The average haplotype diversity and genetic diversity within populations were 0.4579 and 0.009179, respectively. The average genetic diversity and genetic divergence between populations were calculated 0.025294 and 0.016115, respectively. In Monte Carlo (X2) pairwise comparisons highly significant differences (P < 0.001) between all populations were detected. S. undosquamis showed high genetic changes on the pathway of its colonization from south to northward, and there is lack of genetic migration between the Red Sea and Mediterranean

The mitochondrial 16S ribosomal DNA together with morphological data were used to elucidate monophyly of the family Centracanthidae and interrelationships of Spicara and Centracanthus genera, including four species, Spicara maena, Spicara flexuosa, Spicara smaris and Centracanthus cirrus. Examination of the gene revealed a moderate amount of thymine and abundance of adenine. The 16S rDNA dataset contained 92 variable and 69 parsimony informative sites with a mean nucleotide diversity of 0.099. Haplotype diversity was found to be 0.71. No genetic differences were observed between S. maena and S. smaris, and the genetic divergence between S. flexuosa and both S. maena and S. smaris was found to be 0.005. The intergeneric divergence was found to be very high (0.237) between S. alta and C. cirrus. For the other Spicara species, intergeneric divergence ranged from 0.170 between C. cirrus and both S. maena and S. smaris to 0.176 between C. cirrus and S. flexuosa. Minumum evolution, neighbor joining and parsimony trees revealed same tree topologies, and the monophyly of the genus Spicara was not supported. S. maena and S. smaris clustered together and showed close relationship and S. flexuosa was nodded with this group. Therefore S. maena was found to be more closely related to S. smaris rather than S. flexuosa. On the other hand, S. alta highly divergently clustered outside of this group and branched with C. cirrus.5Multivariate analysis of morphological data was congruent with the genetic data and revealed similar pattern of relationship among Centracanthidae species.

Aslan balığı Türkiye denizlerinde Scorpaenidae familyasından olan ve Akdeniz’e endemik olmayan ilk türdür, A first record of the lionfish Pterois miles (Bennett, 1828) is reported for the Turkish marine waters, observed in Iskenderun Bay, Northeastern Mediterranean on 13 April 2014. The lionfish is the first non-native marine fishes, established in the family Scorpaenidae for the Turkish marine waters.

A single specimen of the blackfish, Centrolophus niger (Gmelin, 1789), was recorded on25 March 2011 from the coast of Samandag in Iskenderun Bay (northeastern Mediterranean, Turkey). The present paper reports the first occurrence of the blackfish, C. niger, from the Mediterranean coast of Turkey.

Bu çalışmada iki domuz köpekbalığı bireyi kuzeydoğu Akdeniz’de ticari trol avcıları tarafından ıskarta olarak yakalandı. Oxynotus centrina’nın yumurtalı dişi bireyi kuzeydoğu Akdeniz’den ilk kez kaydedildi. Olgun erkek ve yumurtalı dişi O. centrina’nın kuzeydoğu Akdeniz’de görünürlüğü bu bölgede olası bir çiftleşmenin olduğunu ve bir yavru bakım alanın varlığını güçlü bir şekilde işaret etmektedir. References, In this study, two individuals of the angular rough shark Oxynotus centrina as discard by a commercial trawler were examined. Gravid female of this species was recorded for the first time from the northeastern Mediterranean. Occurrence of a gravid female and adult male of O. centrina in the northeastern Mediterranean Sea strongly indicates that there is a nursery area in this region, and mating probably occurs.

Aequorea forskalea Péron & Lesueur, 1810 was recorded for the first time from the Turkish coastal waters. A. forskalea was observed from January 2012 until September 2012 in Iskenderun Bay, the northeastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The occurrence of this species in the Turkish coastal waters may be related to its extension from the western Mediterranean waters., Aequorea forskalea Péron & Lesueur, 1810 ’nın Türkiye denizleri için ilk kaydı yapılmıştır. A. forskalea Ocak 2012’den Eylül 2012’ye kadar hemen hemen yıl boyunca Türkiye’nin kuzeydoğu Akdeniz kıyısı olan İskenderun Körfezinde gözlemlenmiştir. Bu türün Türkiye sahillerinde görülüşünün muhtemel sebebi batı Akdeniz’den doğu Akdeniz’e doğru yayılış göstermesi olarak düşünülebilinir. References

The long-spined sea urchin Diadema setosum (Leske 1778) is recorded for the first time from coast of Yayladagi, Antakya Bay, Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Turkey. Three specimens of D. setosum have been recorded along the coast of Antakya Bay on 25 July 2010. The occurrence of this species in the Mediterranean is the result of sea currents from the Red Sea via Suez Canal.

Hydrozoan Geryonia proboscidalis (Forskål, 1775) was observed in July 2012 in Iskenderun Bay (Samandag), for the first time in the northeastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The presence of G. proboscidalis in the northeastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey may be due to transportation via ballast waters of ship or water currents., Hydrozoa Geryonia proboscidalis (Forskål, 1775) Temmuz 2012 tarihinde Türkiye’nin Kuzeydoğu Akdeniz sahilleri İskenderun Körfezi (Samandağ)’nden gözlemlenmiştir. Sunulan bu makale G. proboscidalis’in Türkiye’nin Kuzeydoğu Akdeniz sahillerinden ilk bulunuşudur. G. proboscidalis’in Türkiye’nin Kuzeydoğu Akdeniz sahillerinden varlığı muhtemelen gemilerin ballast suları ile veya deniz akıntıları ile taşınması sonucudur
