The article focuses on an isolation device for pressure-sensing and recording instruments used in the piping systems of original equipment manufacturers, plant, and process equipment. This device places an inert sensing fluid and a rings shaped flexible member between the protected instrument and the system fluid. Installing the isolation device between adjacent lengths of pipe exposes the flexible wall to pressure exerted by fluid in the pipe system. A captive inert sensing fluid fills these connected internal spaces, and transmits system pressure to the instrument. Incorporating a needle valve into the device introduces a variable orifice into the sensing loop. INSET: GAGE ISOLATION DEVICE.
