The nurse and previous auxiliary professions press, is a valuable source for the study of evolution developed and its interrelationship between different health disciplines. Knowing and studying serials publications in this sector allow us to approach reality and professional identity, educational and current which hit. In this article is proposed a methodological guide for finding this kind of source of historiographical information and a model for the historical study of the nurse professional press based on the latest developments in the historiographical methodology; supported on separate analysis of the structure of the press by the precepts of Jaques Kayser and its contents by themes through heuristic, hermeneutic and historical methods in the interpretation of texts.

The aim of this study was focused on knowing professional development characteristics and Clinical Practice of Midwives in the Municipal Charity of Malaga in 1900-1956. Method and Materials: This was descriptive and historic study. The collection of information has been made through primary and secondary sources. Results: The process to install the relief houses in the City of Malaga, started in 1862 by Order of the Civil Governor. Conclusions: The incorporation of the healthcare scenario allowed Midwives coverage during the reproductive process of poor women of Malaga through the Municipal Welfare.

This work aims to clarify definitively, the dates of constitution and the purposes of various corporate partnerships that arose prior to the mandatory professional association in 1930 and assess the so hackneyed hypothesis that, prior to that date, did not exist between the midwives collective interest by the professional association. Este trabalho tem como objetivo esclarecer definitivamente, as datas da Constituição e efeitos de diversas parcerias corporativas que surgiram antes do licenciamento compulsório do ano 1930 e avaliar a hipótese, tão banal que, antes dessa data, nao existía entre o colectivo de parteiras interesse pela associação profissional.

In 1906, the doctor Emilio A. García Sierra publishes the book: "A Manual for nurses and normal deliveries", according to the study programme approved by the Law of 1902. Anatomy, minor surgery, births... are studied in the manual, according to the tasks allowed to be performed by nurses at the begining of the 20th century. The manual mainly shows bandage techniques, bleedings, catheterization, dressings, vaccination, births... What we may consider today as proper care, will be assigned to "less qualified hands", as hospital aides. The browsing in manuals like this allow us to do a follow up on the way nursing has evolved especially in theoretical education, functions, responsibilities and some other aspects which will contribute to analyse the origins and development of our profession.

The role played by midwives throughout history has been intimately conditioned by the culture of the society in which they lived: habits, beliefs and rites. The aim of the present work is approaching to knowledge and evolution of care given by midwives during the XX century in this Spanish area, Bierzo Alto, located in Leon. Data from various literature sources were analysed, specially from "El Ciclo Vital en España. Encuesta del Ateneo de Madrid, 1901-1902" and "Anuario General de España Bailly-Bailliere- Riera, 1930 and 1944". As complementary information, a field work was carried out in which -thanks to the data provided by "people who knew"- the role played by midwives could be followed and compared in three different moments: 1901, 1950 and 2002. Finally, this article is aimed to contribute if only modestly to "Anthropology of Nursing", deepening into culture of care during the first stage of the vital cycle.

This article basically, studied the documentation which is preserved in the archive of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Archivo Histórico Nacional concerning to the family Navas. Juan de Navas was an eminent surgeon of end of century XVIII, author of Elementos del arte de partear, ending his professional career as Vice - Director of the Real Colegio de Cirugía de San Carlos de Madrid. In this centre, a few years later, his daughter Concepción de Navas studied midwifery. This research delves into the figure of these two health professionals and shows the harsh conditions of life for the professional practice existing in Madrid in the 18th and 19th centuries.
