The public library fulfills a permanent formative role in the field of knowledge and culture, one of its main objectives is to meet the needs of the community in which it is immersed. Through the provision of various services, one of them being the local issues section, which is responsible for providing citizens with all the information related to the history of the community in its different manifestations. This paper exposes the importance of the contribution and social projection provided by this section contextualizing its work in the population of Simat de la Valldigna in Valencia, Spain. There are also described, by means of examples, different materials that make up this information reservoir. It concludes by highlighting the responsibility of the public library in keeping alive the local history of Simat as a contribution to the preservation of the memory of their ancestors.

The process of implementation of two reference services in the Library of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights is presented in detail through the use of mobile devices and applications. The services implemented are the attention of queries by text message (SMS) and the sending of informational alerts through Whatsapp. Installation details, service testing and implementation policies are addressed. It is concluded that new mobile technologies are giving libraries new possibilities to offer their services, giving the user the ability to use the resources of the information unit without moving physically to the building. These new possibilities do not necessarily require a high budget investment to carry them out.

This paper presents an experience of standardization in the development of subject guides for the Information and Technology Center (CITec), Faculty of Natural Sciences, Río Piedras Campus, University of Puerto Rico. Thematic guides are information resources that support research in different disciplines. CITec needed to update their own guides and develop new ones. To work the initiative, we used an open source tool and applied the systematic, planned and structured five phases of the ADDIE model consisting of analysis(A), design(D), development(D), implementation(I) and evaluation(E), to both the guides and the whole work. As a result, topic and specialized guides were developed, letting users retrieve reliable information from the SubjectsPlus open source platform. The realization of the project facilitated the standardization of the guides, their online creation and immediacy of their updates via their website.
