RESUMEN En la actualidad es reconocible una alarmante situación en lo relativo al problema de la vivienda. No solo en el mundo subdesarrollado, sino también en los contextos que años atrás habían alcanzado un estado de bienestar bien definido, proliferan situaciones de infravivienda, como si hubiesen quedado borrados todos los años empeñados en alcanzarlo. En estas circunstancias, el Consejo Editorial de “proyecto, progreso, arquitectura” consideró necesario dedicar un número a pulsar la cuestión sobre la vivienda y el hábitat. Cuestiones como los hábitats marginales, la inclusión de la participación ciudadana en los procesos de producción del hábitat, o la revisión de los valores vigentes de los logros pasados inexplicablemente olvidados, motivaron el lanzamiento de una convocatoria que ha logrado una alta participación. Desde esta editorial se presentan los artículos seleccionados para cristalizar el noveno número, valorando las aportaciones fundamentales que cada uno ofrece y justificando su puesto en el orden resultante.SUMMARY today an alarming situation can be observed, regarding the housing problem. Substandard housing conditions now proliferate, not only in the developing world, but also where a well-defined state of well-being had been reached years ago. It is as if, every year that had been spent achieving that state has been erased. Under these circumstances, the Editorial Board of “proyecto, progreso, arquitectura” have considered it necessary to dedicate an issue to press home the housing and habitat question. Marginal habitats, the inclusion of citizen participation in the habitat production processes, and the review of the current values of the inexplicably forgotten past achievements, are matters that have motivated the launch of a call which has achieved a high level of participation. The selected articles are presented in this editorial to crystallize the ninth issue, assessing the fundamental contributions that each one offers, justifying its place in the resulting order.

RESUMEN El texto revisa las relaciones entre tecnología, habitar y contexto sociocultural a lo largo del ciclo de lo moderno, indagando en la situación actual de los mismos. Si lo que caracteriza el pensamiento contemporáneo es la comprensión y la revisión del periodo de la modernidad, debemos extender ese procedimiento a la arquitectura si pretendemos integrar las herramientas y las soluciones habitacionales y constructivas de nuestra tradición disciplinar en el presente. Trata de realizar un repaso genealógico que quiere recordar la utilidad y el sentido que términos como cabaña, máquina o caravana, pueden tener para la comprensión de la vivienda prefabricada contemporánea. También se procura el acercamiento a dos casos concretos, la casa de los Eames y el pabellón solar de los Smithson, para explorar la superación de algunas de los problemas básicos detectados en la temática de estudio. Por último, y a modo de conclusiones, se abordan algunas líneas de dilatación en los modos de hacer y pensamiento contemporáneos. SUMMARY The paper reviews the relationship between technology, living and socio–cultural context, during the modern cycle, delving into their current states. If understanding and review of the period of modernity characterize contemporary thought, we must extend this procedure to architecture if we expect to integrate the tools and housing and construction solutions of our disciplinary tradition into the present. A genealogical review is made to recall the utility and meaning that terms such as cabin, machine or caravan may have for understanding the contemporary prefabricated home. Also, two specific cases are approached, the Eames House and the Smithson’s Solar Pavilion, in an effort to explore how some of the basic problems identified in the subject matter are overcome. Finally, some aspects of contemporary methods of production and thought are expanded upon as a conclusion.

RESUMEN En el presente número de la Revista PpA, dedicado a la vivienda prefabricada, se entrelazan dos de los campos de investigación de la arquitectura más efervescentes del último siglo: técnica y habitar. Industrialización, estandarización, modulación y seriación se confunden con el concepto de prefabricación como finas capas de un hojaldre difíciles de separar, horneadas bajo un mismo fuego que no es otro que el de responder a través de la producción reglada al alojamiento. En todos estos términos, el valor de la técnica, donde la figura del artesano aún permite pensar en una respuesta específica para cada producto, virará hacia el de la tecnología, dificultando incluir el hecho particular dentro del proceso creativo. Esta confrontación entre objetividad y contingencia adquiere mayor relevancia en el caso de la vivienda prefabricada, por la distancia especulativa que implica la ultimación del diseño previo a su construcción. La actual proliferación de soluciones predefinidas a la hora de enfrentarse al proyecto arquitectónico –principalmente en aspectos constructivos– y el aumento de la producción prefabricada de viviendas a nivel mundial requieren una reflexión disciplinar en la materia, que hilvane relaciones intencionadas entre hombre y producto. SUMMARY This issue of PPA is dedicated to the prefabricated home, and intertwines two of the most lively research areas in architecture over the last century: craftsmanship and living. Industrialization, standardization, modularization and serial production become blended with the concept of prefabrication as thin layers of puff pastry, difficult to separate, baked under the same fire which is nothing more than responding to accommodation needs through regulated production. In all these terms, the value of craftsmanship, where the artisan is still allowed to think of a specific response for each product, will veer towards that of technology, making the inclusion of that response in the creative process more difficult. This confrontation between objectivity and contingency becomes more important in the case of the prefabricated home, due to the speculative distance involved in the finalization of the design, prior to its construction. The current proliferation of predefined solutions that are available for tackling the architectural project, mainly in construction aspects, and the increased prefabricated production of homes worldwide require a disciplinary reflection on the subject, which tacks together the intended relationships between man and product.

Cuestiones como los habitats marginales, la inclusion de la participacion ciudadana en los procesos de produccion del habitat, o la revision de los valores vigentes de los logros pasados inexplicablemente olvidados, motivaron el lanzamiento de una convocatoria que ha logrado una alta participacion. En la actualidad, la gran ciudad parece haber convertido la condición de anonimato en destrucción. Una mezcla de rechazo y atracción nos invade, donde la incapacidad de control, produce un desgaste solidario, y un aumento de las desigualdades y nos induce a exigir la uniformización de culturas, o la homogeneización de identidades, por temor a perder nuestra seguridad. La existencia de personas, que están fuera de determinados valores y que no constituyen grupos de poder, quedan excluidas. Intentamos mostrar el habitar de un grupo de personas indigentes que recorre nuestras ciudades, buscando lugares para resolver sus necesidades cotidianas y sus relaciones humanas, lugares que son directamente apropiados a lo público y que ahora se convierten en escenarios de intimidades transgredidas, por una exclusión clara en la mayoría de las ocasiones y transgresoras de la armonía pretendida al espacio urbano convencionalizado. Al conjunto de acciones, recorridos y apropiaciones que reflejan estos modos de habitar lo hemos denominado casa_indigente y con el estudio de diferentes casos reales, queremos buscar ciertas claves, para la futura reflexión de la reformulación de propuestas en el ámbito de la producción del espacio público, así como, en la definición del habitar contemporáneo, sobre todo de lo que concierne a las reflexiones sobre propuestas para habitares y hábitat con orígenes en la marginalidad. A mixture of aversion and attraction pervades us, where the inability to control produces a shared exhaustion, an increase of inequalities and induces us to demand the standardization of cultures, or the homogenization of identities, from fear of losing our security. People who are outside certain values and who do not constitute power groups, remain excluded. We attempt to show the lives of a group of homeless people who cross our cities, looking for places to answer their daily needs and their human relations; places that are clearly public and which have now become scenes of transgressed privacies, by a clear exclusion on most occasions and transgressors of the supposed harmony of the conventionalized urban space. We have given the term “casa_indigente” (homeless house) to the set of actions, itineraries and appropriations that reflect these ways of living, and with the study of different real cases we want to seek certain keys for the future reflection of the reformulation of proposals in the sphere of the production of the public space, as well as in the definition of contemporary living, especially with regard to the reflections on proposals for inhabitants and habitat with origins in marginality.

Una mezcla de rechazo y atraccion nos invade, donde la incapacidad de control, produce un desgaste solidario, y un aumento de las desigualdades y nos induce a exigir la uniformizacion de culturas, o la homogeneizacion de identidades, por temor a perder nuestra seguridad. La existencia de personas, que estan fuera de determinados valores y que no constituyen grupos de poder, quedan excluidas. Intentamos mostrar el habitar de un grupo de personas indigentes que recorre nuestras ciudades, buscando lugares para resolver sus necesidades cotidianas y sus relaciones humanas, lugares que son directamente apropiados a lo publico y que ahora se convierten en escenarios de intimidades transgredidas, por una exclusion clara en la mayoria de las ocasiones y transgresoras de la armonia pretendida al espacio urbano convencionalizado. Al conjunto de acciones, recorridos y apropiaciones que reflejan estos modos de habitar lo hemos denominado casa_indigente y con el estudio de diferentes casos reales, queremos buscar ciertas claves, para la futura reflexion de la reformulacion de propuestas en el ambito de la produccion del espacio publico, asi como, en la definicion del habitar contemporaneo, sobre todo de lo que concierne a las reflexiones sobre propuestas para habitares y habitat con origenes en la marginalidad.
