Mathematical models that simulate crop development are important tools to help growers plan management practices and harvest time for cut flowers such as gladiolus. The objective of this work was to validate the PhenoGlad model for the State of Paraná, determining the planting date for marketing flowers for the Day of the Dead, and the quality of the floral stems. The validation of the PhenoGlad model was carried out through field tests in five towns in the State of Paraná, namely: Cascavel, Dois Vizinhos, Marechal Cândido Rondon, Palotina, and Santa Helena. The experiments were carried out during the year 2019. The PhenoGlad model was run for each location and year of meteorological data for the early, The PhenoGlad model was simulated for each location and period of meteorological data available at each weather station in these towns, and for the early, intermediate II, and late development cycles. The planting date was determined through the average of the dates (Julian days) for each simulated year. The variables analyzed were the stages of development according to the phenological scale of the culture, the number of leaves, the average number of florets, and the classification of floral stems according to the quality standards of Veilling Holambra. The PhenoGlad model showed accuracy in simulating the stages of development of gladiolus culture in the state of Paraná and is also suitable for predicting the damage caused by extreme temperatures in floral stems, which was confirmed by the damage caused to sepals and petals of gladiolus in field experiments in the towns of Cascavel, Dois Vizinhos, Palotina, and Santa Helena. The best model performance was observed when simulating the vegetative period of the crop, presenting a low error of 0.54 leaf. In the state of Paraná, for the production of floral stems for the Day of the Dead, the PhenoGlad model simulated the planting dates in the different towns studied from August 1 to August 23. The towns of Cascavel and Marechal Cândido Rondon presented a higher number of florets and higher quality of floral stems than the other towns evaluated.

The environments for flaxseed production and its soil-plant-atmosphere relationship, it is essential for distinguish and adapt them to the soil and crop management to obtain high sustainable yields and food diversification. Our goal was to characterize the main edaphoclimatic conditions for flaxseed production in South-Central, Brazil. The experiments were carried out in two locations representative of the edaphoclimatic conditions of South-Central, Brazil: 1 - Dourados, MS, with an Aw climate and LATOSSOLO VERMELHO Distroférrico (Haplustox) and 2 - Curitibanos, SC, with a Cfb climate and CAMBISSOLO HÚMICO (Haplumbrept), both cultivated with four flaxseed varieties: Aguará and Caburé from Argentina, UFSC (reddish-brown color) and Golden (golden-yellow color) from Brazil, grown under no-tillage system and few resources. Data from weather (air temperature and rainfall), plant growth, soil chemical and physical-hydric attributes, and post-harvest quality of flaxseed were monitored. The data were submitted to Pearson’s correlation matrix (P < 0.05) and multivariate principal component analysis (PCA). PCA segregated edaphoclimatic environments and varieties into four distinct groups. Each edaphoclimatic condition there was specific attributes discriminated by PCA ( > 78%). The lowest plant height ( < 0.85m), shorter cycle length (120-142 days) and high yield ( =1.13 Mg ha-1), especially golden-yellow flaxseed, were found in Dourados. The soil organic carbon and rainfall acted directly in Curitibanos, while charge balance and air temperature responded in Dourados influence flaxseed production. Soil physical and grain attributes were similar between the environments investigated. Both agricultural environments showed feasibility for flaxseed sustainable production in Brazil, it is important to emphasize that these results are pioneers, especially the edaphoclimatic conditions from Dourados.

Our goal was to evaluate the root development of flaxseed and its relationship with soil aggregation and organic carbon storage in two sowing seasons under soil conservationist management, in Santa Catarina state, Brazil. We used three flaxseed genotypes: Aguará and Caburé from Argentina, and Gold from Brazil, sowings in April and May in a no-tillage system under Haplumbrept. In the flowering stage, the root system was evaluated by image analyze using a Safira software. Root distribution maps were used by geostatistical kriging. At the harvest stage, soil blocks were sampled for analyze the aggregates morphometry by image with Quantporo software and the soil organic carbon. Undisturbed soil were sampled to determine the physical attributes. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with three repetitions, anova was performed by Fisher and the means compared by Tukey test. No physical impediments were found for the roots performance in the Haplumbrept under conservationist management system, these favored the irregularity of the aggregates surface observed by the low values of aspect and roughness in the different tested diameter ranges. Both Caburé and Aguará genotypes showed good roots spatial distribution in the soil profile in both sowing seasons with an increase in carbon storage in the smallest diameter aggregates (here considered the aggregates of 4.76-1 mm). Caburé genotype is the best genotype adapted to the edaphoclimatic conditions evaluated because had a greater roots volume, area and length below to 0.15 m depth.
