ABSTRACT: We described the first case of rhinofacial pythiosis with dissemination in an adult horse in Uruguay. The affected horse presented a partially circumscribed mass measuring 30 x 23 x 9 cm affecting the right side of the face with involvement of cutaneous, subcutaneous, and muscular tissues, the right nasal cavity, and adjacent structures. At postmortem examination, the main lesions were “kunkers” characterized by pyogranulomatous and eosinophilic dermatitis, Splendore-Hoeppli reaction and numerous intralesional hyphae immunolabeling with polyclonal anti-Pythium insidiosum antibody. Similar lesions were observed in the lung and submandibular lymph nodes. The diagnosis was made by the characteristic histological lesions and the strong immunolabelling by anti-P. insidiosum antibody.

ABSTRACT: Among the hematopoietic neoplasms, leukemias are caused by myeloid or lymphoid cells in the bone marrow, which can either be acute with an unfavorable prognosis and mostly affect cats that tested positive for feline viral leukemia (FeLV) or chronic in older cats that have a poor prognosis. Leukemias have several classifications in which the differentiation depends on complementary tests, such as blood profile, myelogram, cytology. and flow cytometry, which help determine the best treatment for the animal.

O artigo tem como objetivo investigar como três escolas do interior do Ceará, que atendem alunos das localidades rurais, têm estimulado o desenvolvimento da cidadania e do protagonismo estudantil. A pesquisa tem como fundamentos teórico-metodológicos o paradigma interpretativo, a abordagem qualitativa, do tipo exploratória quanto ao objetivo e aplicada quanto à natureza. O método foi o estudo de casos múltiplos, com uso de entrevistas semiestruturadas com gestores, professores e alunos. Realizou-se também pesquisa bibliográfica para diálogo com os achados de campo. Os resultados obtidos foram trabalhados a partir da análise de conteúdo e constatou-se que embora as condições de acesso à educação estejam asseguradas, as condições de atendimento dos alunos são permeadas por dificuldades diversas, desde a infraestrutura física dos prédios, transporte escolar, professores e que as condições de contexto externo associadas às limitações sociais e econômicas tolhem a capacidade de escolha da trajetória escolar dos jovens. Observou-se que as escolas fomentam uma série de ações no sentido de mobilizar os alunos e proporcionar espaços que favoreçam posturas protagonistas por parte deles, estimulando o exercício da cidadania e do protagonismo juvenil. No entanto, as situações constatadas nas três escolas que atendem a população rural, evidenciam que o poder público, apesar do esforço, não tem conseguindo assegurar a redução das desigualdades e o cumprimento dos preceitos constitucionais na garantia do direito à educação de qualidade.

O ensino da paleontologia na Região Metropolitana de Belém, Pará, Brasil, enfrenta desafios na sua divulgação e inclusão na educação básica. A paleontologia é uma ciência crucial na compreensão da origem e evolução da vida e da Terra, sendo fundamental no estímulo à curiosidade, especialmente quando aplicada com metodologias ativas de ensino. Este trabalho decorre das ações educativas do Projeto Educafóssil, cujo propósito é popularizar a paleontologia e geologia por meio de metodologias ativas para aprimorar o processo de ensino-aprendizagem e fortalecer a presença destas temáticas nas disciplinas de Ciências, Biologia e Geografia, incentivando sua aplicação efetiva nas salas de aula. A iniciativa integra palestras, oficinas (réplicas fósseis, Jogos didáticos e desenho), miniexposição de fósseis e questionários avaliativos. Estes instrumentos são fundamentais para coletar informações sobre o impacto das iniciativas do projeto, avaliar o conhecimento e a satisfação dos alunos em relação ao assunto e, fundamentalmente, enriquecer o entendimento e a conscientização deles sobre a relevância da preservação de fósseis e sua contribuição para a história bioevolutiva da Terra. Os resultados deste estudo de caso demonstram que a maioria das atividades aplicadas obteve um resultado satisfatório e revelam que os estudantes do ensino médio demonstram uma alta porcentagem de apropriação do conhecimento paleontológico em comparação aos alunos do ensino fundamental. Portanto, a implementação de atividades lúdico-pedagógicas desempenhou um papel essencial na avaliação do nível de conhecimento destes alunos em relação à paleontologia, destacando a importância de sua inclusão nas grades curriculares da educação básica.

Este trabalho aborda processos de escrita e desenvolvimento de autoria a partir das reflexões de Virginia Woolf (2016), presentes em seu ensaio Profissões para mulheres, lido em 1931 para a inglesa Sociedade Nacional de Auxílio às Mulheres; e de Clarice Lispector (1999), em sete crônicas de seu livro A descoberta do mundo. Busca-se discutir autoria e estilo em processos de ensino cujos objetivos contemplem a busca por experiências reais com a linguagem, algo nem sempre priorizado no exercício da produção textual escolar. A fim de relacionar a criação textual na Educação Básica – considerado o descompasso entre documentos oficiais e realidade (aluno, ensino, professor e escola) – com as produções inerentes de quem tem a escrita como ofício, são acionadas enunciações sobre a (não) atuação de alunas e alunos em seus textos (Bernardo, 2012) e recomendações da Base Nacional Comum Curricular (Brasil, 2018) sobre o trabalho com o texto na sala de aula, especificamente sobre o que o documento entende por autoria.

Este artigo traz resultados de uma pesquisa desenvolvida no campo da Sociologia da Educação e que teve como objetivo principal investigar as trajetórias escolares de estudantes oriundos de camadas populares matriculados em programas de Pós-graduação stricto sensu da Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP). A pesquisa realizou-se por meio de uma abordagem qualitativa e da aplicação de entrevistas semiestruturadas com cinco estudantes de camadas populares. Pode-se concluir com base nos dados obtidos e respaldando-se na teoria, que de um modo geral, o envolvimento das famílias com a escolarização dos estudantes investigados se deu de modo heterogêneo e sem um projeto escolar intencional; as trajetórias escolares dos cinco estudantes de camadas populares, perpassadas por mobilizações familiares e individuais, evidenciaram que os estudantes vivenciaram a condição de bons alunos na educação básica e na universidade, gostavam da escola e tinham bons resultados escolares; e construíram variadas estratégias de escolarização de curto prazo que, associadas, possibilitaram um percurso de longevidade escolar e o acesso aos níveis mais altos da escolarização, ingressando no mestrado acadêmico. Além disso é importante mencionar a relevância das recentes políticas públicas de democratização da universidade, especificamente das Ações Afirmativas que permitiram que esses estudantes vivenciassem a vida universitária, permanecessem no Ensino Superior, primeiramente na graduação e, posteriormente, na pós-graduação stricto sensu.

Objective: to measure scientific production on the riverside population’s health in Brazilian territory. Method: a bibliometric study, with data collected in March and April 2023, using different databases, via the Virtual Health Library, PubMed, Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel Journal Portal and the online scientific library. Search strategies were developed with descriptors and keywords. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed, and Bradford’s, Lotka’s and Zipf’s bibliometric laws were applied. Results: the sample consisted of 35 documents, predominantly quantitative original articles, published in English and Portuguese, in from 2019 to 2022. Due to their publication numbers, five authors and four Brazilian institutions were highlighted. Four most influential journals, four most representative keywords and the main terms used in writing the objectives of selected studies were identified. Conclusion: it was evident that scientific production has increased in recent years, but it is necessary to strengthen the volume of studies on the topic.

Análise dos contos “Eles” e “Uma veste provavelmente azul”, de Caio Fernando Abreu, que pretende demonstrar como tais narrativas podem ser lidas como alegorias da ditadura militar ao mesmo tempo em que apresentam características de literatura fantástica e maravilhosa, de acordo com a concepção todoroviana desses gêneros.

O trabalho tem como objetivo tecer uma visão ampla do exame crítico do romance Grande Sertão: veredas, de Guimarães Rosa, de modo a compreender a penetração da temática da modernização através da representação da violência na trama. Propõe-se como método de abordagem da obra uma dupla leitura: a primeira, uma leitura horizontal, calcada na história brasileira; a segunda, um aporte transversal, cujo fim é mostrar o ponto em que, através dos agenciamentos que a representação da violência no romance movimenta, a obra rasga seu invólucro particular – o mise-en-scène do declínio do poder patriarcal brasileiro e a consolidação da mediação das relações sociais pela lei no universo do sertão – e avança em direção à matéria bruta da soberania moderna – na qual a relação intrínseca entre lei e violência é fundamental. Como desdobramentos deste contato, Grande Sertão: veredas ganharia contornos universais ao representar a cada vez mais escassa possibilidade de justiça e redenção ante uma violência informe e, por isso, monstruosa. Pretende-se mostrar como o romance se utiliza desta violência notadamente moderna como força motriz para, num primeiro momento, armar a estrutura do universo jagunço sobre bases míticas para, depois, desconstruí-las tragicamente, revelando o ciclo de violências preso à culpa e ao destino, que culmina numa escalada da angústia e em seu fim catastrófico. Neste sentido, as relações de Riobaldo com Diadorim ganham proeminência na análise por formarem um arco cujas extremidades seriam ocupadas pelo teor testemunhal do relato de Riobaldo e pelo desfecho messiânico da trama.

ABSTRACT: Aujeszky’s Disease (AD) is a highly infectious swine disease caused by Suid herpesvirus 1 (SuHV 1). The present study evaluated the biosafety of commercial swine farms and carried out the first serological survey for Aujeszky’s Disease in Espírito Santo State, Brazil. A total of 55 farms in 27 municipalities of the state were selected, where 416 swine serum samples were collected to be submitted to serological diagnosis for AD. Finally, a survey was carried out using a questionnaire to obtain information on the biosecurity of the farms. The results by the ELISA technique indicated the absence of antibodies for AD. Regarding the biosecurity of the farms, 56.4% of the farms did not meet the requirement of internal isolation, 67.3% did not have changing rooms, 72.7% did not provide specific clothing for employees and visitors, 85.5% did not require visitors bathe to access the sheds and only 10.9% of the farms controlled the flow of visitors and vehicles accessing the property. Another noteworthy factor is that only 25.5% of the farms had an area to quarantine replacement animals and 69.1% had an access ramp located close to the animal pens. With the results, it was concluded that there is a need to improve biosecurity measures on commercial farms in the state of Espírito Santo and that there was no presence of Aujeszky’s Disease in the evaluated animals.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the probability of pregnancy and associated factors for two times artificial inseminations (AI), 8 or 10 hours after automated activity monitoring (AAM) alarm on the first postpartum AI of 1,054 Holstein dairy cows. The estrus was synchronized by prostaglandin or estradiol-progesterone program. Stepwise logistic regression was performed to analyze the probability of pregnancy, and associated factors (activity, estrus intensity, parity, peripartum health, retained placenta, postpartum vaginal discharge, and season). The highest pregnancy rates were obtained with multiparous animals, inseminated ten hours after the AAM alarm, in the fall or winter season, with a high activity peak and estrus intensity (P < 0.05). Peripartum diseases, retained placenta, and postpartum vaginal discharge negatively influenced the pregnancy rate, regardless of parity. Thus, the optimization of AAM models by including on-farm measures like parity, peripartum health history, and environmental conditions may favor the correct identification of estrus and improve the AAM alarm regarding the ideal moment for AI, increasing the reproductive performance in dairy cows.

Ensaio embasado na estética do choque, formulada por Walter Benjamin, que aborda alguns recortes de quatro contos de Caio Fernando Abreu (“Gravata, “Retratos”, “Ao simulacro da imagerie” e “Uma veste provavelmente azul”), no intuito de demonstrar como a vivência do choque é intrínseca a estas histórias, cujos personagens são incapazes de elaborar uma experiência de modo totalizante.

ABSTRACT: The present study assessed the influence of environmental variables at birth (birth season, temperature, relative humidity, THI - temperature and humidity index) and newborn serum protein level of 450 Holstein heifers on growth (body weight, and mortality rate) and reproductive performance (weight and age at puberty, age at first conception, and conception rate at first artificial insemination). The immune passive transfer was positively related to the weights at 30 and 60, with a trend at 90 days, which consequently affected weight at puberty, age at puberty, and age at conception. Therefore, it reinforces the importance of protocols with newborns that allow the assessment of the passive transfer of immunity. Calves born during the warmer months exhibited 4.2 and 12.28 kg less weight at weaning and puberty, respectively, compared to calves born during winter. Thus, calves born in an environment with higher THI showed changes in development, health, and reproductive efficiency in the short, medium, and long term. These findings reinforce the importance of adopting better colostrum management and welfare conditions, especially in warm season, to allow successful immune passive transfer and increase system efficiency.

ABSTRACT: The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the agricultural and forestry sectors has constantly evolved due to its great versatility and applicability in the field. In this sense, this study provided a statistical overview of studies on the use of UAVs in agricultural and forestry through a bibliometric and scientometric analysis. For that, a research was carried out on the Scopus platform using the terms UAV, UAS, drone, and RPA, together with “agricult*” or “forest* or livestock”. Only manuscripts published in English and from January 2000 to December 2020 were selected. The VOSviewer software was used for the analyses. The USA and China were responsible for more than 38% of the publications worldwide. Furthermore, about 50% of the countries in the world showed some scientific record of the use of UAVs in agricultural and forestry studies. The term UAS was more used until 2016, while UAV was more mentioned between 2017 and 2018. Conversely, drone was more endorsed from 2019. The constant increase in scientific production reported in the research and the evolution of the co-occurrence of keywords corroborated two ideas: i) the use of UAVs is still undergoing transformations and is directly related to the advancement of technology included in these equipments; and ii) studies are still not enough to explore all the applicability of the UAVs in agriculture, livestock and forestry.

ABSTRACT: Varroniacurassavica is a Brazilian native medicinal species. Among the critical points influencing the phytochemical quality of bioactive compounds is the spacing between plants, harvest and post-harvest. This research aimed evaluated the influence of plant distance, harvest season, and leaves drying temperature on the yield and phytochemical quality of V. curassavica essential oil. The organic cultivation was carried out in 2018/2019 using 0.6 x 1.0; 0.8 x 1.0; 1.0 x 1.0; 1.0 x 1.6 m spacing between plants. The macro and micronutrient contents of the leaves were evaluated and no considerable changes were observed. In 2018 the harvest was performed in summer, autumn, and winter, and the harvested leaves were immediately submitted to the drying process at 40 °C. In 2019 the harvest was performed in winter, and the leaves were submitted to the drying process at 40, 50, and 60 °C. The essential oil was extracted by hydrodistillation and the chemical constituents were evaluated using CG-MS. The essential oil yield was significantly higher in winter and used 0.8 x 1.0 m and 1.0 x 1.0 m spacing between plants. The alpha-humulene content remained within the recommended standards at all analyzed temperatures. Although, the drying temperatures tested did not compromise the alpha-humulene content, the increasing temperature caused a reduction in the essential oil yield. Thus, it is recommended for the organic cultivation of V. currassavica the spacing of 0.8 x 1.0 m and 1.0 m x 1.0 m, and the drying of its leaves between 40 and 50 °C to earn the highest essential oil yield and phytochemical quality.

ABSTRACT: Actinobacilluspleuropneumoniae is the causative agent of swine pleuropneumonia, a contagious respiratory disease associated with high morbidity and economic losses. While antibiotic therapy helps to control the spreading of the pathogen on the farm, resistance to several classes of antibiotics were reported, and treatment can be impaired by the bacterial ability to form biofilms. This increases the need for alternative therapy approaches, including the use of natural compounds with antimicrobial and/or antibiofilm activities. In this research we analyzed, by the broth microdilution method, the inhibitory and bactericidal activities of the essential oils obtained from eighteen Brazilian popular medicinal plants or spices against clinical isolates of Actinobacilluspleuropneumoniae. After that, sub-inhibitory concentrations of active oils were tested for their antibiofilm effects, analyzed by the crystal violet method. Among the eighteen oils tested, eight (extracted from cinnamon, coriander, peppermint, spearmint, thyme, marjoram, eucalyptus, and laurel) presented bacteriostatic and bactericidal activities against all isolates, and subinhibitory concentrations of five of them disrupted up to 80% preformed biofilms, and significantly inhibited biofilm formation. The chemical composition of such oils was assessed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and is presented, indicating that their bactericidal and antibiofilm properties were mostly associated with the presence of monoterpenes and phenylpropanoids. To our knowledge, this is the first report of essential oils with potential to control environmental contamination and animal infection with A. pleuropneumoniae, representing an alternative to increasing levels of antibiotic resistance.

ABSTRACT: A case of meningoencephalitis caused by Pythium insidiosum secondary to rhinitis is reported in a three-year-old crossbred sheep from a herd of 15 animals, raised extensively and with free access to a weir. The animal presented mild dyspnea, blindness, mydriasis, opisthotonos, nystagmus, incoordination, decreased mandibular tone, and spasticity of the pelvic limbs. Macroscopic examination of the nasal cavity showed a blackish-red, irregular, friable mass that bilaterally compromised the nasal septum and the rostral portion of the nasal turbinates. In the brain, there was diffuse thickening of the leptomeninges of the cerebellum and ventral portion of the brainstem characterized by yellowish, granular material associated with vessel hyperemia. On the floor of the fourth ventricle, there was deposition of yellowish, irregular, slightly granular material that protruded towards the obex and displaced the cerebellum dorsolaterally. Microscopically, there were pyogranulomatous, eosinophilic, necrotizing rhinitis and fibrinosuppurative, eosinophilic, necrotizing meningoencephalitis, both associated with thrombosis, vasculitis, and intralesional hyphae. The hyphae were impregnated with silver and presented thin, parallel walls, rarely septate and branched. At immunohistochemistry, the hyphae were immunostained with polyclonal anti-P. insidiosum antibody in fragments of the cerebellum and nasal cavity. The findings showed that P. insidiosum rhinitis can secondarily affect the nervous system of sheep, causing nonspecific neurological clinical signs.

Este artigo decorre de uma investigação mais abrangente que teve como objetivo analisar o tema da Valorização Docente no processo de formulação do Plano Municipal de Educação (PME/2015) do município de Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, bem como os embates encontrados pela categoria durante o processo de formulação das metas e estratégias do PME e a posterior aprovação pelo poder executivo. O recorte aqui proposto tem sua ênfase na formação inicial e continuada, considerada como um dos elementos constituintes da valorização docente. Utilizou-se de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, pautada em estudo qualitativo, o corpus documental foi composto de diversas fontes, como diário oficial, notícias online, informes do sindicato local e da prefeitura municipal, além do diálogo com a produção da área que trata da temática. Constatou-se que, no momento do processo de formulação das metas e estratégias do PME de Dourados, buscou-se uma aproximação com o Plano Nacional de Educação (PNE/2014) que determinava aos municípios e aos estados brasileiros a elaboração de seus respectivos planos decenais de educação. Embora o processo de formulação do PME tenha tramitado de forma democrática e coletiva, com a participação da sociedade civil organizada, sua aprovação se deu de forma autoritária com centenas de alterações efetuadas pelo executivo, e assim o documento foi aprovado pelo legislativo sem diálogo com os representantes envolvidos no processo de formulação do PME. Tais alterações determinadas pelo executivo e referendadas pelo legislativo, sem espaço para o debate, causaram um descontentamento não só para os docentes, mas para a qualidade da educação pública municipal.

ABSTRACT: We described the clinical and anatomopathological findings observed in a case of nasal leiomyosarcoma in a five-year-old male Quarter Mile horse, whose main complaints were decreased sports performance and bilateral purulent nasal discharge. The nodule was observed in the nasal cavity, obstructing the left nostril and associated with purulent drainage. The nodule was of irregular shape and yellow color, measuring 19.4 cm × 6.9 cm × 4.3 cm in size, with coalescent multifocal areas that were brownish, friable, opaque, and fetid. When cut, the surface was compact, grayish-white, and smooth with yellow, friable, irregular multifocal areas, measuring 1-3.2 cm in diameter. Histopathological examination showed spindle-shaped neoplastic cells, which was negative on Masson’s trichromic stain. A diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma was established based on the morphotintorial aspects of neoplastic cells and confirmed through immunohistochemistry, with positive immunostaining for antibodies 1A4, HHF35, desmin, and S100. Leiomyosarcoma primarily affects the nasal cavity of horses and should be included in the differential diagnosis of diseases that affect the nasal cavity and cause nasal obstruction associated with dyspnea.

ABSTRACT: Conidiobolomycosis has a wide distribution, predominantly in humid tropical regions, affecting several species with significant mortality rates. The genus Conidiobolus is now divided into four genera: Capillidium, Conidiobolus, Microconidiobolus, and Neoconidiobolus. There are no confirmed reports of infection by these fungi in Equidae in Brazil. We present a rhinofacial rhinitis caused by Neoconidiobolus lamprauges in a mule from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The mule presented bilateral semi-occlusion of the nostrils, difficulty breathing, and weight loss. The histological examination of the nostril biopsied mass revealed multifocal necrotizing areas with nonstained images of fungal hyphae in the Splendore-Hoeppli reaction and surrounded by macrophages, eosinophils, neutrophils, and multinucleated giant cells. The Grocott methenamine silver staining revealed thin-walled, rarely septated, irregular branching hyphae, with a varying diameter of 12 μm (± 3.63 μm), and terminal ballooning dilations. The determining etiology of this rhinitis was based on the hyphae staining by immunohistochemistry and by amplifying the DNA fragment of N. lamprauges by polymerase chain reaction. Conidiobolomycosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of the causes of rhinitis in equids, mainly in tropical regions.

Objective: analyze the relationship between feelings of anxiety and levels of self-esteem experienced by women during pregnancy. Method: cross-sectional study carried out with 201 pregnant women in a city in the south of Minas Gerais, Brazil, between 2019 and 2020. For data collection, the questionnaire on sociodemographic characterization, lifestyle and information on pregnancy and important events in life was applied. Anxiety and Depression (anxiety subscale) and Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale. For data analysis, descriptive and inferential statistics were used, through Pearson's Chi-square, Fisher's Exact and logistic regression tests. Results: the variables change in mood and the influence of physical change during pregnancy on women's lives are associated with anxiety. As for self-esteem, no independent variable was statistically associated. Pregnant women with anxiety are three times more likely to have medium/low self-esteem. Conclusion: many women changed anxiety and self-esteem during pregnancy. Professional follow-up is important to monitor and prevent complications.

Objective: to assess the opinion of nurses in regard to the electronic recording of nursing diagnoses and interventions in an information system in the hospital context. Method: cross-sectional study, carried out with nurses using data collected in loco through a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used for data collection. Results: 87 nurses were included. From these, 52.9% were satisfied with the electronic records of the Nursing Process (NP), 47.1% believe that registering is easy, 58.6% have some difficulty to identify and select the Nursing Diagnoses (ND), and 60.9% self-evaluate their knowledge about using the NANDA-I taxonomy as regular. The selection, modification, scheduling, or cancellation of interventions were indicated as the most difficult tasks. Conclusion: most nurses are satisfied with the electronic records of the NP. They indicate the selection of the ND as the most difficult stage and evaluate their own knowledge about the taxonomy as medium. The participants mentioned difficulties in the stage of nursing interventions.

Objective: to identify factors associated to the time of death of trauma victims. Method: a retrospective cohort that analyzed autopsy reports of trauma victims admitted in 2015 at the Central Institute of Forensic Medicine of São Paulo, Brazil. The time of death was identified from the trauma moment to the confirmation of death. The generalized linear model was applied to analyze the data. Results: among the 1,500 fatal victims (75.7% were men; mean age of 49.7 years old), falls prevailed (33.5%), followed by aggressions (27.8%). The factors associated with the time of death were the number of body areas affected (p0.001), type of trauma (p0.001), gender (p=0.009), trauma severity according to the New Injury Severity Score (p0.001), assaults (p0.001), and intentionally self-harm injuries (p0.001). Conclusion: women, victims of traumas with the intention of causing death and with high severity presented a reduced survival time after the injury(ies).

Este artigo apresenta resultados de uma pesquisa, cujo objetivo foi investigar as estratégias utilizadas por uma professora do 1º ano do Ensino Fundamental, de uma escola no Rio Grande do Sul, no trabalho com vocabulário em momentos de leitura de livro de história infantil. Os dados discutidos, neste texto, foram produzidos por meio de observação na sala de aula e entrevista com a professora. Como referencial teórico, utilizamos os estudos de Stein e Rosemberg (2010), Manrique (1997), Moreira (1984) e Melo (2005). Dentre as estratégias utilizadas por essa professora, destacamos 7 aspectos: 1) justaposição das palavras e seus significados; 2) questionamentos explícitos para verificar conhecimentos prévios das crianças; 3) intervenções focadas explicitamente no vocabulário; 4) utilização dos aspectos físicos do livro – ilustrações – proporcionando informações contextuais; 5) testes realizados pelas crianças em relação às suas hipóteses quanto às derivações de palavras; 6) predição, precisamente a etapa chamada de processamento da informação e a etapa chamada de avaliação das respostas e 7) repetição, ou seja, quando a fala é repetida e, na sequência, reestruturada para esclarecer o significado. A situação de leitura da história aqui analisada proporcionou o trabalho com o vocabulário pelas crianças, facilitando o acesso ao sistema semântico, responsável pelo significado das palavras.

Objective: identify the playful technologies used by health professionals for adolescents. Method: Integrative review. The databases were: Lilacs, Bdenf, Cinahl, Adolec, Cuiden and Pepsic; SciELO, Cochrane library and Medline / Pubmed. The descriptors extracted from DeCS and MESH, being the final sample of five original articles. Search period from November 2017 to January 2018. Results: the articles featured a digital game, a straight chat game, questions and answers, the culture circle, a domino and a card game. They were between the years 2009 to 2018. The level of evidence six with methodological rigor category A. Final considerations: despite the articles being aimed at teenagers, there is still a need to develop new playful technologies by health professionals, covering other diseases for this audience, these being protagonists of the teaching-learning process, but also multipliers of health education actions.

Aim: To analyze nurses' perceptions about the exclusivity of material collection for oncotic colpocytology. Method: a descriptive study of qualitative nature, having as participants 18 nurses from Municipal Health Units of Belém-Pará. Data collection took place between June and August 2017 with the aid of a semi-structured interview script, and content analysis was used to interpret the results. Results: the data correspond to perceptions about the collection of the oncotic colpocytology exam, subdivided into perceptions about the collection performed by the nurse and nursing technician, facilities and difficulties in collecting and changes in the routine of nurses. Conclusion: the perceptions are heterogeneous, but converge in recognizing the need for nurses to add technical and scientific knowledge to perform the collection of material for oncotic colpocytology, due to the high complexity of the technique.

The research aims to analyze the relationship between cognitive psychology and judicial decisions, wondering the impartiality and neutrality of the judge exist when analyzing evidence and taking decisions. The work dealt with human mental cognitive processes and their importance in daily activities, as well as explain theories that contributed greatly to unveiling the development of human knowledge and how they form their actions. The emphasis of the work lies in the conflict between the mental functions (sensation, perception, thought, language, emotions, and memories) and the essentiality of the impartiality of the judge in the stage of instruction and procedural judgment. The reflection was made that human neutrality in a judicial decision is not possible and that impartiality exists in different proportions, enhancing the idea of a just sentence through an instructor judge and a judging judge.

Aim: to understand the practices of nurses in urgent and emergency service for people experiencing psychic crisis resulting from drug abuse. Method: this is a descriptive research, with a qualitative approach, performed with 19 nurses who work in the emergency room of a general hospital in the countryside of Rio Grande do Norte. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, and then submitted to content analysis. Results: nurses highlight that they focus on the signs and symptoms of the psychic crisis or use listening as an instrument of practice, and they also reported that the difficulties faced by them are the the prejudice against the drug user, the lack of training in the field of mental health and the inappropriate physical structure of the hospital. Conclusion: there is a need for nurses’ qualification so that they can care for people who abuse drugs and for a greater engagement of the services that comprise the Psychosocial Care Network.

Aim: to identify factors that influence adherence of elderly people to hemodialysis treatment. Methodology: descriptive research with a quantitative approach, with 81 elderly patients in a hemodialysis clinic in the Northeast of Brazil. Data were collected from January to March, 2014 and analyzed through descriptive statistics. Results: women accounted for 50.6% of the elderly studied. The majority had between two to three years on hemodialysis (51.9%). Interdialytic weight gain varied from 1 to 6 kilos, most of the subjects (86.4) were assiduous at the hemodialysis sessions in the last six months. Regarding the aspects that negatively influence adherence to hemodialysis treatment, difficulty to travel, followed by puncture pain and bruising in the arteriovenous fistula member were referred by the subjects. Conclusion: the identification of factors that influence the adherence of elderly people to hemodialysis should support the development of educational nursing actions involving the patients and their families.

The search for high productivity of Eucalyptus plants and seedlings with good nutritional and genetic quality, and more resistant to the insect-pest attack are being more and more studied. On this context, this study was realized to understand the absorption and the translocation of silicon in Eucalyptus camaldulensis seedlings. The experiment was carried through in a nursery belonging to ‘Votorantim Siderurgia’ company, in Vazante - MG state, where the application in substrate (calcium silicate) of the micronutrient was evaluated as well as its application on plant leaves (potassium silicate), at three different doses. The experimental design was entirely randomized, with eight treatments, 20 replicates, totalizing 160 plants. The evaluation of the experiment was carried through on the basis of the values of silicon present on the analysis of the dry matter of roots and aerial parts of plants (mg plant-1) and in substrate (%). Three evaluations had been carried through at 30, 60 and 90 days after application of the doses of silicon in leaves and roots and four evaluations for the substrate samples, being the first evaluation at the beginning of the experiment (before the silicon fertilization) and the others at 30, 60 and 90 days after the eucalyptus sowing. Considering the leaf analyses, greater silicon content was observed on the treatment with application of potassium silicate (10 ml/plant) T8, that was on average 3 times more when compared to treatments without silicon (standard fertilization + 110 grams of CaO) - T1 and without application of silicon (standard fertilization + 1.71 grams of KCl) - T2. There were no differences among treatments in relation to silicon content in the Eucalyptus camaldulensis roots. In the substrate samples, a significant increase in the micronutrient content was observed at 30, 60 and 90 days, due to the increasing doses of silicate, in the two forms of application, especially on T8. Thus, it was possible to conclude that Eucalyptus camaldulensis is able to absorb and to translocate this mineral.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to characterize the outbreaks of equine infectious anemia (EIA) identified, between the years 2009 and 2015, in the western region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. We identified 26 positive horses on 24 properties. Each positive property was considered an outbreak of the disease. The diagnoses were made using the agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) test as a part of the sanitary checks conducted during animal transportation or certification of the horse´s sanitary status. The positive properties included farms or horse barns, and the infected animals were used for ranch work, sports, or reproduction. One outbreak was identified in animals that were being illegally transported from Argentina to Brazil. Fifteen outbreaks occurred on properties that were not registered with the Official Veterinary Service (OVS). Eleven outbreaks were identified in urban areas and 13 in rural areas. Twelve of the 24 outbreaks were diagnosed in 2015 alone, nine of which occurred in São Borja county. On two properties, a diagnosis could not be confirmed with a retest; therefore, these outbreaks were discharged. During sanitation checks on three properties, 12 additional positive animals were identified among a population of 1,108 susceptible animals. Based on these findings, we concluded that a subclinical form of the infection is present in that area, which is linked to properties that are not registered with the OVS, and that animals which are transported illegally across international borders represent a potential risk.

Aim: To identify the nursing diagnoses in the immediate postoperative period of valve replacement surgery. Method: Documental and cross-sectional study carried out by means of the medical records of patients submitted to valve surgeries between January and December 2014, in a large hospital specialized in cardiology in the state of São Paulo. Results: among the 50 analyzed charts, 58% belonged to female patients. Eleven nursing diagnoses were identified, 55% are classified by the health problem and 45% are risk. The most prevalent nursing diagnoses were Infection Risk (100%), Impaired Physical Mobility (94%) and Risk of Fall (94%). Conclusion: the highest occurrence diagnosis identified in the immediate postoperative period of surgery was the risk of infection. The identified diagnoses allowed a better understanding of the experience lived by the patient and the nurses' perception of it, contributing to the optimization of human and material resources.

Aim: To stratify the risk of cardiovascular complications in diabetic patients registered in a Family Health Strategy in Primavera do Leste / Mato Grosso. Method: descriptive study of quantitative approach, of field and secondary analysis, conducted with diabetic patients registered in HIPERDIA program. Results: Fifty-two patients participated, with a female predominance of 40 patients (76.9 %), prevalence of age for both sexes between 50 and 60 years old. The prevalence of schooling was less than seven years of study for both sexes. Of the total sample, 48 patients had Type II diabetes (92.3%), 45 patients (86.5%) made use of oral hypoglycemic agents and 38 patients (73%) had associated hypertension. Both sexes maintained an inadequate diet. As for the perception of treatment, all considered important the control of the disease. Regarding the score, males had high risk for cardiovascular disease, while most women had intermediate risk. Conclusion: nutritional and health education are important in order to control the disease and reduce complications

Aim: To analyze the clinical outcomes of patients undergoing cardiac surgery in a high complexity hospital. Method: Descriptive historical longitudinal study, in which records of patients undergoing cardiac surgery within the period of one year were analyzed. Results: Among the 137 patient records analyzed, CABG surgery was the most prevalent 85 (62%). The average length of stay in the ICU was 2.93 ± 4.53 days, and clinical / surgical units, was 3.77 ± 3.53 days. The most used drugs were the vasoactive ones. The most prevalent complications in the postoperative period were hypotension 50 (36.6%), bleeding 17 (12.4%) and hyperglycemia 10 (7.3%). The average time of the chest tube removal was 51h43min , the use of mechanical ventilation was 16:38min and of the endotracheal tube was 16:48min. Conclusion: The major clinical outcomes in post-cardiac surgery are related to the hemodynamic status of the patient

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to know the biodiversity of non-Saccharomyces yeasts in Brazilian apples must with potential to improve of the aromatic quality of ciders. The strains were isolated from thirty-five (35) Gala and Fuji apple musts from different locations from south region of Brazil. Forty-five (45) strains were isolate and identified by PCR analysis. Results indicated ten (10) species: Candida oleophila, Candida parapsilosis, Candida tropicalis, Clavispora lusitaniae, Hanseniaspora guilliermondii, Hanseniaspora uvarum, Lodderomyces elongisporus, Pichia anomala, Pichia fermentans and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa. The genus Rhodotorula sp., Lodderomyces sp. and Clavispora sp. constituted 71.2% of the strains identified. The following strains, C. oleophila, R. mucilaginosa, P. fermentans, H. uvarum and H. guilliermondii were selected in qualitative tests due the fruity aroma production by trained team in the aromatic assessment of cider.

ABSTRACT: The high intensity ultrasound-assisted extraction (HIU) is one of the most simple, quick and efficient techniques for the extraction of phenolic and other antioxidant compounds from plants. This is the first application of HIU for the extraction of these compounds from goldenberry fruit. The HIU and conventional extraction techniques showed similar results regarding to phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity. However, the time required for HIU extraction (5min) was 24 times lower than conventional extraction (120min). Phenolic compounds reported were chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid and rutin. In vitro cytotoxicity assays were used for evaluation of extracts and the results showed that in a wide range of concentration, the extract maintains cell viability, thus indicating the possibility to use it as food with safety.

ABSTRACT: The aims of this study were: 1) to compare the tape weight and associated weight-estimation formula to evaluate weight gain in pregnant mares, and 2) to develop a mathematical model to estimate the weight of pregnant mares using body measurements. Thirty-four criollo-type mares were evaluated every two weeks during the middle and late pregnancy. The mares were weighed on a livestock scale, and we estimated body weight using tape weights and an associated body-weight estimation formula. Also, heart-girth circumference (heartgirth) and abdominal circumference were measured; the latter at the 12th intercostal space (12th ICS) and 18th rib (18th Rib), to use in a mathematical model to estimate the weight of pregnant mares. Observations were divided into three periods of pregnancy: 5th to 7 h month, 7th to 9 h month, and 9th to 11th month. Mares in late pregnancy showed an increase in actual weight and an increase in 12th ICS and 18th Rib measurements. Tape weight and body-weight estimation formula underestimated the weight of pregnant mares. However, the regression model using heart-girth circumference, 12th ICS, and 18th Rib measurements showed high correlation (r2 = 0.87, P

ABSTRACT: Tumors affecting Bartholin’s gland are considered rare in human medicine; there are few reports in the veterinary literature, with descriptions occurring only in cows. This article described the clinical and pathological findings associated with Bartholin’s gland adenoma in a goat. Clinically, a 7-year-old pregnant Saanen goat presented bilateral enlargement of the vulva that did not regress spontaneously after parturition. Grossly, these vulvar masses were multilobulated, contained cystic areas from which oozed a whitish fluid. Histopathology revealed an adenoma characterized by the proliferation of irregularly shaped neoplastic epithelial cells that formed tubular to glandular-like structures. These neoplastic cells demonstrated moderate anisokaryosis and evident nucleoli. The intratumoral proliferation index (PI) was estimated by immunoreactivity with the protein ki-67. Further, the glandular-like structures produced a Periodic Acid-Schiff positive secretion. A diagnosis of Bartholin’s gland adenoma was established due to the anatomic location of the neoplastic growths, the histopathological features, and the PI of the tumor.

Framboesa é uma pequena fruta de grande importância econômica, que contém numerosos compostos fenólicos, com potenciais benéficos à saúde, porém, quando cultivada em regiões subtropicais possui baixa produtividade. Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar a produtividade de framboeseiras 'Batum', produzidas com ou sem cobertura plástica sobre o dossel das plantas, em duas densidades de plantio, sendo 0,25m e 0,5m entre plantas e 3,0m entre linhas e avaliadas por dois ciclos de produção (2012/13 e 2013/14), em região subtropical. O delineamento experimental adotado foi em blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 2x2x2, com 6 blocos e 10 plantas por parcela. Foram avaliadas as características produtivas como número de frutos por planta, produção por planta e produtividade estimada. Além disso, foram demarcados os índices fenológicos, análises vegetativas e fisiológicas. O menor espaçamento de plantio entre as plantas (0,25m) e o plantio sem cobertura plástica sobre o dossel das plantas resultaram em maior produtividade das framboseiras 'Batum'.

Grasslands afforestation aims at adding different soil uses in a way they become profitable for their owners. As such handling aims at minimizing impacts, the current study had as its goal the use of soil macrofauna in order to evaluate legume afforestation effects on the soil, regardless the depth. Thus, nitrogen fixing species were inserted onto grassland areas and the macrofauna collection was performed 6 years after their planting in the 0-10cm, 10-20cm and 20.30cm layers, in winter and summer. Leguminous influence was different between depths and times of the year. It mostly favors communities under "Mimosa" Genus treetops. Besides, the effects from climatic seasonal variations on invertebrates were mitigated by the implementation of such legume trees

“Campinaranas” are sandy ecosystems of great extension in the Brazilian Amazon, and are determinant for the great systems of rivers with black waters. Due to the lack of studies on this ecosystem, the objective of the present work was to study the distribution of “Campinaranas” and their relationship with the predominant soils and geology in the western portion of the Brazilian Amazon. We used geographic data of vegetation, geology and soils, and analytical data of the soil profiles collected by the RADAMBRASIL project, updated and systematized by IBGE, and data from reference profiles collected in the National Park of Viruá,Roraima. In general, the soils of “Campinaranas” are predominantly sandy, developed on parent materials rich in quartz. The overlaying of geological data with areas dominated by “Campinaranas”, reveals the prevalence of recent sedimentary formations (Quaternary), constituted mainly of sandy materials. Based on the studied dataset, we suggest a minimum limit of 55 dag kg-1 of sand in the soils for the occurrence of “Campinaranas”. Soils with higher clay content are present only in Forest-Campinaranas transitions, adjacent to the sandy deposits. It is verified the absolute prevalence of Spodosols and Psamments in “Campinaranas”. Even in different geological formations and under distinct pedogenetic processes, these soils possess similar morphological, chemical and physical properties. In spite of the pedological diversity found in the transitional areas, the soils keep similarities with the soils of “Campinaranas”.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of potassium and sulfur on growth and quality of seedlings of Platymenia foliolosa Benth. (vinhático), determining the best dose of these nutrients. An experiment was conducted using pots made of rigid polyethylene with a capacity of 1,5 dm³ and a red and yellow Latosol as the substrate. Seven doses of potassium were used as substrates (0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 mg/dm³) combined with five levels of sulfur (0, 20, 40, 60 and 80 mg/dm³), which were applied in four applications: 0, 30, 60 and 90 days after the first thinning. After 150 days of sowing collected data of height, collar diameter, aerial part dry weight and root, and the relationships height/collar diameter, height/ aerial part dry weight, aerial part dry weight/root dry weight and Dickson quality index (IQD). The addition of increasing doses of potassium to the substrate show significant (quadratic) for all variables, except for the ratio of aerial part height/collar diameter, the levels of sulfur showed no significant response to any of the characteristics evaluated in this experiment. There was an interaction between K and S to height of the aerial part in ‘vinhático’ seedlings at 150 days after sowing. Based on these results, we recommend for seedlings of ‘vinhático’ (Platymenia foliolosa) application of 175 mg / dm³ K and 45 mg/dm³ S parceled out evenly in four times at 0, 30th, 60th and 90 days after first thinning.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to characterize five different hybrid cultivars pears (‘Tenra’, ‘Centenária’, ‘Cascatence’, ‘Primorosa’ and ‘Seleta’) deployed in subtropical regions of Brazil regarding its physicochemical characteristics, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity, as well as to evaluate the influence of these cultivars on the characteristics physicochemical, rheological properties and sensory acceptance of the obtained jelly, for identifying varieties with higher potential for industrial use. Regardingthe bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity it was observed that ‘Seleta’ cultivar was characterized by a higher phenolic content (57.68mg GAEs 100g-1), higher antioxidant activity (13.56% of DPPH sequestration and 1.25µM of trolox g -1) and higher content of vitamin C (3.59mg 100g-1). As the acidity, it ranged from 4.09 to 5.81 g of malic acid 100g-1 (‘Tenra’ and ‘Seleta’, respectively). Regarding color, the color parameter L* varied from 32.14 to 36.83, a* ranged from 2.87 to 5.20, b* ranged from 16.57 to 20.42, Chroma ranged from 16.67 to 21.02 and °Hue ranged from 74.94 to 80.18. Regarding the texture, the jellies produced from ‘Centenária’ and ‘Tenra’ were characterized by having the highest values of hardness (1.21 and 1.23N, respectively), gumminess (0.42 and 0.45, respectively) and chewiness (0.40 and 0.45N, respectively). The jelly obtained from the ‘Centenária’ still showed the highest adhesiveness (2.27N s-1) and springiness (0.99). Already jellies prepared by ‘Cascatence’ showed the highest cohesiveness values (0.68). The jellies prepared with different pear cultivars showed good sensory acceptance for all measured properties, with average scores ranging between the hedonic terms “liked slightly” to “liked very much”. Cultivars of subtropical pear trees present different physicochemical characteristics, resulting in jellies with different physicochemical characteristics and rheological properties. Processing in the form of jelly is extremely viable due to the good acceptance by consumers of all formulations elaborated.

This study aimed to evaluate the role of the Amazon River prawn, Macrobrachium amazonicum, as carrier of Candida spp., by analyzing the correlation between Candida spp. from these prawns and their environment (surface water and sediment), through M13-PCR fingerprinting and RAPD-PCR. For this purpose, 27 strains of Candida spp. were evaluated. These strains were recovered from the gastrointestinal tract of adult M. amazonicum (7/27) from Catú Lake, Ceará State, Brazil and from the aquatic environment (surface water and sediment) of this lake (20/27). Molecular comparison between the strains from prawns and the aquatic environment was conducted by M13-PCR fingerprinting and RAPD-PCR, utilizing the primers M13 and OPQ16, respectively. The molecular analysis revealed similarities between the band patterns of eight Candida isolates with the primer M13 and 11 isolates with the primer OPQ16, indicating that the same strains are present in the digestive tract of M. amazonicum and in the aquatic environment where these prawns inhabit. Therefore, these prawns can be used as sentinels for environmental monitoring through the recovery of Candida spp. from the aquatic environment in their gastrointestinal tract

A semistructured interview was used with mothers of children with cancer who are assisted by a Fundação Norte Mineira. Results: the mothers reported that the children with cancer undergo many emotional changes. Cancer still affects social and school life. Physiological changes were reported by these mothers. Final Considerations: knowing the child with cancer and intervening in the changes of the various fields of the lives of these patients and their families can contribute to the effectiveness of the treatment.

Doi: 10.5902/217976929931 Aims: to assess the knowledge and applicability of nursing theories by undergraduate students of a private college in Teresina, Piauí, Brazil. Method: quantitative study with 38 undergraduate students. The data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed in the program Statistical Package for Social Science. Results: the students understood the implications of nursing theories for the profession; 89.4% applied some of these theories during their undergraduation, 84.22% were familiar with these theories, since they correctly related them to their theoretical-practical approaches. Conclusions: the undergraduates know and have applied nursing theories during their undergraduation.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência do glicocorticoide sobre parâmetros vitais de cordeiros nascidos a termo e prematuros, do nascimento às 48 horas de vida. Foram constituídos quatros grupos: PN (cordeiros nascidos de parto normal, n=15, média de 146 dias); PNDEX (cordeiros nascidos de parto normal, cujas mães receberam 16mg de dexametasona aos 141 dias de gestação, n=8, média de 143 dias); PRE (cordeiros prematuros nascidos de cesarianas aos 138 dias de gestação, n=10); e PREDEX (cordeiros prematuros nascidos de cesarianas aos 138 dias de gestação, cujas mães receberam 16mg de dexametasona dois dias antes, n=9). As frequências cardíaca e respiratória variaram ao longo do período, com os maiores valores nos grupos de partos normais. A temperatura retal diminuiu em todos os grupos nos primeiros 60 minutos de vida, sendo os menores valores observados nos cordeiros prematuros, e o escore Apgar foi mais alto nos animais nascidos em tempo gestacional normal. Os cordeiros prematuros apresentaram menor vitalidade e menor taxa de sobrevivência, entretanto, menor taxa de mortalidade foi observada nos prematuros sob influência da dexametasona.

The experiment was conducted atthe Experimental Hydraulics, Irrigation and Drainage Department of Agricultural Engineering, FederalUniversity of Viçosa (UFV), in Viçosa, Minas Gerais state, in a greenhouse. The experiment consistedof 10 treatments in a factorial 5 x 2 (5 proportions of ARS supplemented with nitrogen fertilization andseedling age 2) with different number of repetitions, and the experimental design was a randomizedblock. To track the growth of seedlings of the species studied were evaluated at 75 and 90 days aftersowing, the following morphological characteristics: height of shoot (H), stem diameter (CD), shoot drymass (SDM), root dry mass (RDM), total dry matter (TDM), seedling height raltionship/collar diameter(H/CD), shoot dray mass ratio/root dry mass (SDM/MSR) and Dickson quality index (IQD). The resultsshowed that the proportion of 50% of ARS is the one which results in the best morphological characteristicsof eucalyptus seedlings. The seedlings showed the planting in the field only 90 days after sowing.

Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar as perdas fermentativas, composição bromatológica e digestibilidade in vitro da matéria orgânica de silagens de milho produzidas em diferentes estádios de maturidade, inoculadas microbiologicamente. Aplicaram-se dois inoculantes comerciais nas silagens produzidas nos estádios SLL, 1/3 LL, 1/2 LL, 2/3 LL e CN, permanecendo ainda um tratamento sem inoculação (silagem controle), configurando um esquema fatorial 3x5. A inoculação com BAL resultou em menores perdas fermentativas (P=0,0348), ao passo que silagens produzidas com plantas mais secas também apresentam menores perdas de MS (P

Changes in the horizontal structure of a fragment of Mixed Rain Forest, located at Irati National Forest, in Parana state, were evaluated by measurements performed during the years 2002, 2005 and 2008. The study area has 25 ha, divided into 25 permanent sample plots of 1 ha (100 m x 100 m) each. All trees with diameter at 1,30 m above the ground equal or higher 10 cm were measured and identified. Density, dominance, frequency, importance value and cover value were analyzed and, to understand better the phytosociological estimators and successional stage of the forest, the species were classified into ecophysiological groups: pioneers, early secondary, late secondary and undetermined. There was a decrease of 2.3% in the number of individuals per hectare, with 581 recorded in 2002 and 567 individuals/ha in 2008. Currently, Ilex paraguariensis was the species with the greatest number of individuals, representing 9.4% of the total. The dominance (basal area) changed from 28.6 in 2002 to 30.2 m²/ha in 2008, i.e., there was an increase of 5.1% in the period, and currently Araucaria angustifolia has been the species that dominates the forest with 25.9%. The frequency pointed to an uneven distribution of species in the forest, with rates of 47,4% in 2002 and 46,3% in 2008. Araucaria angustifolia was the dominant species and the most ecologically important one in the period with 35.2 (11.7%) of the total absolute importance value in 2008. According to the phytosociological estimators and ecophysiological groups the forest still has a growing stock, due to the increment in trees with bigger diameters from species such as Araucaria angustifolia and Ocotea porosa , and is in advanced stage of ecological succession, with the majority of species and individuals belonging to the early and late secondary, and every year it becomes more mature with the ingress of new species and shade tolerant individuals.
