Objective : to identify the knowledge of health professionals about the recommendations for prevention and control of healthcare-related infection. Methods : cross-sectional study, conducted with 308 nurses, technicians, doctors and physiotherapists in public teaching hospital. Instrument constructed and validated was used for data collection. We performed a descriptive analysis, association measures and the Student t test. Results : the comparison of means to precautions standard averages indicated that there was no significant difference between the occupational categories. The association of specific knowledge scores with time of training, performance in the institution and professional performance, show that the recommendations knowledge is different between the categories. For some professionals the more training time and professional performance, the less knowledge. A variable with respect to respiratory tract showed statistically significant (p=0.044). Conclusion : there was adequate knowledge about preventive recommendations although limited in specific fields.

Objective: to analyze the factors associated with depression in cancer patients during chemotherapy. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study of 208 patients undergoing chemotherapy. A general characterization questionnaire and the Beck Depression Inventory were used. Results: most were women, between 40 and 79 years old, married, Catholic, retired/housewives, with elementary school and had no depression (71.2%), while 17.3% had depression and 11.5% dysphoria. In the associations, it was found statistical significance in the associations of the Beck Depression Inventory with surgery (p=0.002), time since surgery (p=0.014), time since chemotherapy onset (p=0.030), and side effects of chemotherapy (p=0.019). Conclusion: there was a low incidence of depression, but the frequency was higher in patients who did not undergo concomitant surgery, who had started chemotherapy for up to six months and who reported more side effects during treatment.

Estudio transversal,cuyo objetivo fue evaluar la Calidad de Vida relacionada con la Salud en pacientes con cáncer en quimioterapia, identificar dominios afectados y asociarlos con datos sociodemográficos, clínicos y terapéuticos de la amuestra. Llevado a cado con 152 pacientes entre 2009-2011 en dos centros de quimioterapia, en Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brasil. Se utilizó el instrumento Quality of Life Questionnaire Core-30 . La Calidad de Vida general fue considerada buena, los dominios afectados fueran: función emocional, desarrollo de papel, dolor, fatiga, insomnio y pérdida de apetito. Pacientes del sexo femenino, entre 40-60 años, económicamente activos, con cáncer gástrico, pulmón, neurológico y piel, con metástasis y los pacientes que se sometieron a cirugía y/o radioterapia concomitante presentaran déficit en varias áreas y presencia de más síntomas. El cáncer y su tratamiento afectaran de alguna manera los pacientes, causando déficits en las funciones desarrolladas e más síntomas, perjudicando la Calidad de Vida Relacionada con la Salud.

Los objetivos del estudio fueron identificar cambios en la calidad de vida de ancianos con cáncer, caracterizar datos sociodemográficos, clínicos y terapéuticos y asociarlos con los dominios de calidad de vida relacionada con la salud. Estudio transversal, desarrollado en una clínica privada de Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brasil, de agosto de 2012 a julio de 2013. Se llevó a cabo con 21 ancianos con cáncer en tratamiento adyuvante, en que se utilizó el instrumento Quality of Life Questionnaire Core-30 (QLQ-C30) y un instrumento sociodemográfico, clínico y terapéutico. El software Statistical Package for Social Science analizó los datos. Los resultados señalaron que la calidad de vida en general fue satisfactoria (media = 69,04), los principales dominios afectadas fueron función emocional, social, cognitiva, dificultades financieras, fatiga, náuseas y vómitos, disnea e insomnio. La enfermedad y el tratamiento interfieren en la vida de ancianos y perjudican la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud.

Se trata de una revisión integradora, con objetivo de identificar evidencias disponibles acerca del conocimiento sobre calidad de vida de ancianos con movilidad física perjudicada, entre 2001 y 2011. Los datos fueron recolectados en las bases de datos LILACS, MEDLINE y Cochrane. Después de lectura analítica de las obras, se seleccionaron 16 artículos para análisis en dos categorías temáticas: calidad de vida y satisfacción personal, y calidad de vida y capacidad funcional. Limitaciones de la movilidad, dolor y bienestar emocional de ancianos pueden ser atribuidas a enfermedades crónicas, que afectan negativamente la calidad de vida de ellos; y también, los ancianos que reportan baja calidad de vida, son los que tienen mayor grado de dependencia, influyendo en la participación social y bienestar. Se sugiere la actuación del enfermero en investigaciones de intervenciones que permitan mejorar la calidad de vida de ancianos con movilidad física perjudicada.

This study aimed at identifying changes in the quality of life of older people with cancer and characterizing the socio-demographic, clinical and therapeutic data, associating them with domains of health-related quality of life. This is a cross-sectional study, conducted in a private clinic in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, from August 2012 to July 2013. It was carried out with 21 elderly patients with cancer and in adjuvant treatment. The instrument Quality of Life Questionnaire Core-30 (QLQ-C30) and a socio-demographic, clinical and therapeutic instrument were used to collect data which were then analyzed by the Statistical Package for Social Science software. The results showed that the general quality of life was satisfactory (average = 69.04), the main affected domains were emotional function, social function, cognitive function, financial difficulties, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, dyspnea, and insomnia. The disease and the treatment interfere with the lives of the elderly and affect their health-related quality of life.

The general Quality of Life was considered good, the domains affected were: emotional and role function, pain, fatigue, insomnia and loss of appetite. Female patients, between 40 and 60 years, economically active, with gastric, lung, neurological and skin cancer, with metastasis, and patients who underwent surgery and/or radiotherapy showed concomitant deficits in several areas and the presence of more symptoms. We concluded that the cancer and its treatment somehow affected patients, causing more symptoms and deficits of the performed functions, jeopardizing their health-related quality of life.

This is an integrative review, which aimed at identifying the available evidence about the knowledge on the quality of life of the elderly with impaired physical mobility between 2001 and 2011. Data collection happened in the LILACS, MEDLINE and COCHRANEdatabases. After analytical reading of works, we selected 16 articles for analysis in two thematic categories: quality of life and personal satisfaction, and quality of life and functional capacity. The mobilitylimitations, pain and emotional well-being in the elderly can be attributed to chronic conditions, negatively affecting the quality of life; and the elderly who report a decreased quality of life, are those with a higher degree of dependence, influencing social participation and well-being. We suggest the nurse’s performance in research on interventions that allow improving the quality of life of the elderly with impaired physical mobility.
