Research shows that there is a significant resources waste in construction, and accordingly lagging in productivity behind the productivity of the global economy and industry in particular. There is also a small number of papers and studies on this waste. On the other hand, a higher productivity level requires small waste of material, energy and other inputs. Therefore, construction companies are deciding to introduce lean as one of the leading methods of waste reduction. This paper deals with the introduction of lean in construction companies in BiH, currently at very low level. Bearing in mind that most construction companies in BiH are small, it concludes that introducing lean and thus reducing the resources waste and increasing productivity and competitiveness requires more information and particularly skills improvements. This paper presents an examination of natural stone to slip resistance. The test is carried out according to the BAS EN 14231:2009 standard. This standard specifies a test method for determining the slip resistance value of the surface of the exposed face on natural stone elements intended to be used for flooring in buildings. The aim of the paper is to present the equipment, auxiliary means, samples and the test procedure. Tests are carried out on stone samples with different finishes. The test surfaces are: cut, polished and flamed. After the tests, the authors analyze and evaluate the obtained results. The paper explains the method of developing the Jackson and Moreland alignment charts, which are used to determine the effective buckling length of load-bearing elements subjected to compressive loading. This paper is a continuation of papers published 10 years ago, which covered the tests results obtained during the period from 1997 to 2013. The paper presents the test results obtained during the period from 2013 to 2023. Based on scientific methodology, the use of relevant literature as well as laboratory test methods, the authors analyze and evaluate the obtained results of testing natural stone as a basic raw material for the production of dimension stone (DS) and crushed stone aggregate (CSA). Test results are based on applicable test methods. The paper presents natural stone deposits for the production of DS and CSA, as well as the results of testing their physical and mechanical properties as the basic evaluation criteria. Based on measurements and research, diagnostics of the condition of a structure aims to provide an answer to the question of what the condition of the structure is, and the necessary steps for reconstruction or rehabilitation. Masonry stone construction is one of the oldest methods of construction of building structures. In spite of that, this type of structures does not have fully defined parameters that influence its behavior. The reason for this is the fact that the properties of masonry stone structures differ depending on the basic material (stone) and binding material (mortar), as well as their combination. The paper presents diagnostics of the condition of masonry structures on the Tabija tower building. Tabija, a low tower for cannons, is a fortification structure from the Ottoman period that is the most completely preserved and was registered for the first time in the city plan from 1717. The structure is in poor condition due to a large number of natural and human factors. The paper will present a detailed visual inspection of the structure, as well as tests conducted in the laboratory and in-situ, the calculation, and decisions and proposals for the rehabilitation and/or reconstruction of the considered building of cultural and historical heritage. This paper presents the freshwater limestones, from tenelija and (Mostar) miljevina, which are intercalated in the Mukoba deposit near Mostar, and their "stone cousins," Posušje miljevina and Tomislavgrad muljika. In the process of diagenesis they acquired a specific orientation and structure (especially tenelija), which gave them specific physical properties (small bulk density, high porosity and permeability), which "classic" limestones used in construction do not have, and which were decisive for the choice of this stone for construction of the Old Bridge and other buildings in the wider area of Mostar and in the area of Posubje municipality, but also in other karst poljes of Herzegovina and southwestern Bosnia, in parts of Central Bosnia, and Miljevina near Foča. The second part of the paper presents the so-called built-in (internal) factors that the builders try to avoid in order for freshwater limestones that are built into numerous stone buildings and/or monuments to avoid complex processes of stone changes, or weathering (decay) of stone due to its interaction with various environmental conditions (external factors). It covers the problems and significance of the choice of stone, the method and (often too small) depth of its extraction from the deposit for the construction of significant buildings, insufficiently long aging (storage) after extraction, incorrect installation (stacking) of the stone in relation to its position in the deposit, as well as various errors in stone processing and execution, along with inadequate maintenance. This paper presents the influence of complex engineering geological and geotechnical ground conditions on the selection of combined measures for the rehabilitation of landslide on the main road M5. Field and laboratory investigations were conducted to determine the engineering geological and geotechnical conditions of the site. The road is situated on a relatively high embankment within the landslide area, under which a culvert channels a natural stream. The geological substrate is found quite deep, 7 to 8 meters below the surface. Beneath the road, there is a mixture of fill materials of different qualities, indicating that a railway used to run along this route in the past. The slope below the road is relatively steep, approximately 10 meters in height, with a poorly maintained stone wall at its base. The fundamental concept of the proposed solution involves the construction of a support structure comprising piles, a head beam, and a reinforced concrete wall. The designed rehabilitation measures ensure the stability and functionality of the roadway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to avoid complex processes of changes, or weathering (decay) of freshwater limestones embedded in numerous buildings and/or monuments due to interaction with various environmental conditions (external factors), builders have always tried to avoid construction (internal) factors, such as the selection of stone, the method and (often too small) depth of its extraction from the deposit for the construction of significant buildings, insufficient aging (storage) after extraction, improper installation (stacking) of stone in relation to its position in the deposit, as well as mistakes in stone processing and execution, in addition to inadequate maintenance. This paper presents the complex processes of changes, or weathering (decay) of freshwater limestones embedded in buildings and monuments as a result of its interaction with various environmental conditions (external factors), such as: the effects of temperature, humidity and quality of air, winds, precipitation, acidic rain, exhaust gases, micro-particles and organisms in the air and water, harmful salts, radiation, soil, biological colonization, along with the destructive action of man. In this process, the aesthetic deterioration of the stone surface is only a secondary problem compared to the destruction of its structure. Deposits of dimension stone (hereinafter: DS) are mostly of heterogeneous composition and non-uniform properties. For the purpose of exploring the DS deposit, it is necessary to perform certain mining work in order to collect data for the determination of: existence, position and shape of the bed, quantity and quality, and the conditions for exploitation of DS. The position and shape of the deposit have a crucial influence on DS exploitation conditions. Discontinuities of different positions, dimensions and shapes were formed as a result of dynamic and chemical processes in the rocks. The exploitation of DS from the deposit is performed by obtaining as geometrically regular and as large in size blocks as possible. The DS exploitation should be harmonized with the position and shape of the deposit as well as discontinuities for the purpose of obtaining the highest possible exploitation of stone. However, a special requirement of construction is to obtain the DS, primarily of uniform appearance and other properties. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize mining works for the purpose of obtaining and installing DS of a uniform appearance, as described and shown on several examples in this paper. The paper aims to determine the organizational structure and organizational culture of a successful construction company from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, the paper provides an insight into their interdependence and impact on the overall business operations of the company. The questionnaire examined the main dimensions of organizational structure: formalization, centralization, standardization and specialization. Cameron and Quinn’s Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument was used to examine the organizational culture at the company, while the analysis of the company’s business efficiency was informed by Kaplan and Norton’s Key Performance Indicators: financial, internal business processes, customer, and learning and growth perspectives. After the reliability of the measuring scales used were confirmed by calculating the Cronbach alpha coefficient, the Relative Importance Index determined which dimensions of the organizational structure and culture, and which efficiency indicators have the greatest influence on the design of the company's business system. According to the subjective opinion of the employees who participated in this research, the company can be characterized as hierarchical, highly formalized and structured, and customer-oriented. In the territory of Herzegovina there is a large number of masonry buildings, the age of which exceeds 50 years. These are mostly smaller buildings, with one to two floors, while the load-bearing walls are mainly made of cut stone in lime mortar. Larger buildings with load-bearing walls made of bricks and concrete blocks in cement-lime mortar appeared a little later. The floor structures mainly consist of timber oak beams, supported by loadbearing walls, with boarding on the upper side and plaster, on reed netting, on the lower side. Such structures are exceptionally sensitive to seismic action, and almost certainly could not withstand the design seismic load without significant damage and collapse. A nonlinear static analysis of the structure of one such building was performed in this paper. A check of the existing condition was performed in the first analysis, and a check of the partially strengthened structure in the second. It is evident from the analysis that such strengthening significantly improves the bearing capacity, while the increase in deformability (ductility) is significantly smaller due to the very high stiffness of such structures. In the first part of this paper the occurrence of dolomite in B&H karst, as well as active and potential dolomite deposits for dimension stone with different trade names ("Rujan", "San", "Gradac") are presented, with the available results of their testing. The final section of the paper gives a brief historical overview of the applications of dolomite as dimension stone in Herzegovina, which is attested by many tombstones, but also some religious and residential buildings. However, with its beauty of textures and colors and quality in workmanship, in the last several decades it has been widely used in the interior and exterior cladding of numerous buildings in Herzegovina, as well as in several regional architectural projects along the Adriatic coast, in the Republic of Croatia and Republic of Montenegro. Giant stone structures all over the world, with their millennia-old age, size, durability, construction method that surpasses the technical capabilities of ancient cultures, but also with a mysterious purpose, have aroused the interest of experts and the general public for years. Megalithic architecture, which is part of the eponymous culture, the longestlasting and most widespread building culture in human history, is characterized by the placement of monumental stone blocks of various shapes - megaliths, single or grouped into different structures/buildings. This overly broad definition includes Neolithic (and later) megalithic monuments (dolmens, menhirs, cromlechs and others), but also later structures of the so-called "more advanced architecture", which had architectural features, built from megaliths of regular geometric shape, weighing tens and hundreds of tons. These structures are often popularly called "cyclopean", which some authors contest by using that name only for the so-called "Mycenaean civilizations/ cultures". Therefore, the authors decided to use the universal name "giant stone buildings" and divide this broad topic into separate papers, trying to encourage readers to further study the extensive available literature in search of answers to the many doubts that we all still have. The paper examines the causes of insufficient implementation of public-private partnership projects in the field of road infrastructure. The aim of this paper is to present the possibility of using the public-private partnership concession in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the construction of road infrastructure. The results of the research can be useful to public bodies in implementing the first phase of the life cycle of a public-private partnership project, i.e. in preparing the necessary study documentation, and then selecting potential public-private partnership projects in road infrastructure in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This paper is a continuation of the research on reinforcement of masonry walls using a combination of metal frames and mechanical dampers. This paper analyzes a single metal frame with and without reinforcement with mechanical dampers in order to have a clearer insight into the behavior of individual reinforcement components. It presents an overview of the basic characteristics of mechanical dampers, their configuration and combinations with metal frame, and special emphasis is placed on their earthquake behavior. The results of the numerical analysis for a single metal frame were obtained using two modern software packages, ABAQUS and SAP2000. This paper presents the results of research on energy performance related to the energy consumption for space heating of school buildings (primary and secondary schools) located in the south region of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SR FBiH). The research was conducted by collecting data from detailed energy audit documents on a sample of 47 school buildings in the SR FBiH and is part of a broader study aimed at analyzing the energy performance of school buildings in the FBiH and determining their relationship to heating energy costs through the development of new models for faster estimation of heating energy costs. The results of the research indicate poor energy performance of existing school buildings in the SR FBiH. The analysis of the delivered energy for space heating showed that the actual consumption is 67% of the predicted and indicates an energy gap between the actual and predicted values of energy consumption for heating. Reduction of energy consumption for space heating can be achieved by applying measures to improve energy efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Developments in sensor technology called Synthetic Antenna Radar (SAR) and associated data processing software have helped satellite radar interferometry (InSAR), a method that uses multiple SAR images of the same area collected from satellites, to become a widely used method for estimating soil deformation as well as other geophysical processes, because it provides millimeter precision with great spatial coverage. The paper deals with 24 Sentinel-1A images for the area of western Herzegovina, taken during 2020, and determined the average speeds of vertical displacements using the SNAP program (Sentinel Application Platform). Vertical displacements of ± 10 millimeters were recorded, while the mean annual displacement velocities were 8 millimeters in the vertical direction, without taking into account the correction for the influence of horizontal displacements. The first results in the study area indicate a trend of ground movement, but due to several types of atmospheric corrections, geomorphological characteristics of the study area and lack of in-situ measurements for comparison, external evaluation of the reliability of deformations will have to be assessed in future studies. This paper provides an overview of the research conducted as part of development of the graduation thesis entitled: "Hydraulic analysis of part of the Šuica River watercourse", which was completed and successfully defended at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Mostar, in 2019. The paper presents results of the hydraulic analysis of the part of the Šuica River watercourse in the section from the confluence of the Drina River with the Šuica River to the planned upper balancing reservoir. The observed section is located in the low-lying part of Duvanjsko Polje, in which the Šuica River forms shallow meanders in clayey deposits. The software that is used and on the basis of which the results are obtained is HEC-RAS. For the purpose of integration with the natural state of the watercourse, it is planned to preserve the appearance of the Šuica riverbed to the maximum extent possible, so that a minimum river training work was carried out in most of the section. The analysis was conducted observing the economic and environmental aspects, boundary conditions given by the physical plans, infrastructure plans, the planned operation regime and hydrological conditions. It is a strategically organized activity that manages and directs employees in order to achieve long-term, strategic goals of the company. Human resource management is considered to be a strategic business function if implemented through a systematically formulated human resource management strategy that is in accordance with the company's strategy. In this paper, the emphasis is on the importance of human resource management in practice through recognition of human factor as the key potential of a successful construction company.This paper deals with the importance of rewarding the employee as special practice of human resource management and presents a proposed model of rewarding the employee in real construction company. The globalization of geospatial data and geodetic reference frames is important for the overall development of both national and global economies. In accordance with the needs for defining a general geodetic reference frame, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution "Global Geodetic Reference Frame for Sustainable Development (GGRF)" in 2015. The European Union member states have addressed the issue by adopting joint directives, recommendations and other acts to adapt national laws. Bosnia and Herzegovina and its neighboring countries, non-EU member states, have enacted appropriate legislation and decisions to adapt to the globalization of spatial data and reference frames. Therefore, the Federal Administration for Geodetic and Property Affairs (FGU) has undertaken certain activities in order to establish a new geodetic reference frame through changes in legislation, renewal and establishment of new reference systems and measurements. The paper will discuss the existing geodetic reference frame and the activities of the FGU on the introduction of new geodetic datums and map projections in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH). The purpose of this paper is a presentation of a graduation dissertation "Hotel Lišanj arhitekta Ignjata Fischera, Novi Vinodolski" at the south of Primorsko Goranska županija near Crkivenica, built in 1923. The author of this hotel is a well-known architect from Zagreb, Ignjat Fisher, who developed the project before the collapse of the Austro Hungarian Empire in 1917. In the paper, the history oft he hotel and its interweaving with the development of the tourismin Novi Vinodolski is being analyzed. The analysis is focused on the historical building of the hotel. A review of the phases of reconstruction of the hotel from 1923 until today, and a functional analysis of today's buildingin comparison to the hotel Esplanade in Crikvenica with a similar history is given. The method of hotel reconstruction was "addition" of new volumes in contemporary style, which design should have adapted to the context. A lack of the attempt to adaptand a low quality of new hotel architecture is probably the reason why hotel chains advertise with images of historical buildings. Eventhough the Imperial architecture demanded a certain uniformity in the whole Austro Hungarian Empire, with a time detachment can be seen that these buildings add a value to an even more uniformed contemporaneity. The paper first presents a general overview of the problem of dam construction - the formation of reservoirs in karst terrains, followed by the overview of the karst terrains specificities, specificities of engineering geological problems, and the relevant influence factors of the karst process and its forms on dam construction in karst. The construction of dams in karst terrains is a special problem that requires additional conditions in relation to the conditions in other terrains, which is why special care is needed during engineering geological research, as well as construction and exploitation. There are numerous, complex, versatile and specific engineering geological problems in karst terrains, almost always somewhat different, at each new location, which must be taken into account when constructing dams. Typical examples of the engineering geological risk of constructing dams in karst terrains, from foreign and domestic practices, are presented in the end of this paper, including both, remediation works that have given positive solutions, and cases where extensive and long-term remediation works with high financial resources have not given satisfactory results. Nonlinear methods for calculation of shallow foundation settlements in sand are addressed in the paper. One of them relies on the Hardening Soil Small constitutive relationship incorporated in the computer program Plaxis 2D. It has a significant drawback in the need to model the unknown strain history of the foundation soil prior to simulating the load test on a shallow foundation. This can be overcome by preloading the soil with a pressure which gives good matching between calculated and measured settlements. However, predictions of soil settlements cannot be made in such a way, because the soil strain history is not a priori known. It is shown in the paper how predictions of soil settlements can be made by Plaxis 2D by calibrating calculations against a simple direct method. A new direct method is developed along the lines of this simple method, on the basis of results of 16 load tests performed at 4 locations.
