This article discusses how theatrical and political identities and warring ideologies dramatically re-envisioned and conflated both on the stage and in caricatures in Great Britain. It notes that a dozen satirical prints appeared in rapid succession wherein contemporary politics were fused with melodramatic spectacle, and real political figures reappeared in the guise of theatrical characters. It examines the Richard Brinsley Sheridan's play "Pizarro," an adaptation of August von Kotzebue's "Die Spanier in Peru" that opened at Drury Lane in London, England on May 1799.
