Objective: This scoping review synthesizes the available evidence on team outpatient eating disorder treatment, focusing on team composition, reported health and service outcomes, and reported principles of Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPCP), a synergistic healthcare approach characterized by shared values and ethics, clear roles, communication, and teamwork., Method: A comprehensive search was conducted across five databases, targeting studies published between January 2004 and August 2024 that discussed team-based outpatient eating disorder treatment. Peer-reviewed and gray literature were included if they detailed team composition, characteristics, dynamics, experiences, processes, or outcomes., Results: Forty-five studies met the inclusion criteria; nearly half were case reports or lacked primary data. Treatment teams commonly comprised mental health professionals, dietitians, and medical practitioners. Clinical outcomes, such as body mass index and psychopathology, were the most frequently reported, while satisfaction and organizational outcomes were underrepresented. IPCP principles were inconsistently reported, with "Roles/Responsibilities" and "Communication" most frequently mentioned but often superficially addressed., Discussion: The evidence base for team outpatient eating disorder treatment lacks rigor and depth. Future research should focus on refining the integration of roles across disciplines, developing comprehensive outcome measures for benchmarking, and applying IPCP principles more systematically., (© 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

Objective: Dietitians have a central role in eating disorder (ED) treatment, however few studies exist investigating therapeutic aspects of dietetic care and factors influencing the dietitian-patient relationship. To address the gap, this study aimed to use a qualitative description approach to explore the experiences of delivering and receiving dietetic care in ED treatment in the UK., Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 6 specialist ED dietitians and focus groups with 11 recovered ED patients. Interviews were transcribed and inductive thematic analysis was performed to identify key themes describing the data., Results: Six key themes were generated: (1) Building trust, (2) Appropriate timing, (3) Adapting, (4) Dietitians as experts, (5) Boundaries, and (6) Difficult relationships. Participants highlighted the importance of building trust and considering nutritional risk and readiness in treatment approach. Patients expressed a desire for dietitians to have experience in EDs, facilitating understanding of their illness. However, dietitians identified the nature of EDs making their role challenging at times., Discussion: This study described various factors affecting dietetic care in EDs and provided a valuable insight into patients' perceptions of treatment. Background: Children who are critically ill are often reliant on enteral and oral nutrition support. However, there is limited evidence to guide "what" to prescribe, and current practice is unknown. The primary objective of this study was to describe enteral nutrition prescription in children ≤2 years of age in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The secondary objectives were to describe oral nutrition support practices and factors associated with the use of increased energy and protein density nutrition support., Methods: Children ≤2 years of age admitted to participating PICUs over a 2-week period in June 2021 were enrolled. Data were collected on PICU admission days 1 to 7, 14, 21, and 28 on the mode of nutrition, enteral and oral nutrition support prescription, and dietitian intervention., Results: Eighty-four children were included (49 [58%] male; 79 [94%] ≤1 year of age). Enteral nutrition was administered to 79 (94%) children (with expressed breast milk in 45 [57%]). Forty-three children received formula as enteral nutrition. Increased energy and protein density formulas were provided to 14 (33%) children enterally, with concentrated standard infant formula powder being the most common (5 [12%]). Among children offered oral intake (22; 26%), three (14%) received oral nutrition support. Children who received increased energy and protein density enteral nutrition were more likely to receive dietitian intervention (P = 0.002)., Conclusion: In children ≤2 years of age admitted to PICU, expressed breast milk was provided to half of those requiring enteral nutrition and oral nutrition support prescription was infrequent. One third of children receiving formula via enteral nutrition received an increased energy and protein density feed, and this was strongly associated with dietitian intervention., (© 2024 The Author(s). Background and Aims Functional bowel disorders (FBD), such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), are increasingly more common in children and affect up to 20% of children. The etiology is multifactorial with no clear organic cause. Symptoms are recurrent and are associated with a reduced quality of life, school absences, and psychological challenges. Treatment options are variable. FODMAPs are short‐chained carbohydrates, poorly absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract due to their increased osmotic activity and excess gas production from the bacterial fermentation process. There is a paucity of data examining dietary interventions that restrict carbohydrates in children with IBS. The aim of this study was to examine the use of the low FODMAP diet (LFD) in children with an FBD. Methods A retrospective clinical case note review of children with an FBD managed with an LFD was undertaken. Anthropometry and clinical data were collected by a pediatric gastroenterology dietitian. An IBS satisfaction survey was used to assess diet outcomes. Statistical analyses were completed using Excel. Results Of the 29 children included in this study, complete resolution of gastrointestinal symptoms was observed for 11 of 12 (92%) of those with bloating, 13 of 15 (87%) of those with diarrhea, and 17 of 22 (77%) of those with abdominal pain. Twenty‐three (79%) participants reported an improvement of symptoms. Fructans were the most common symptom‐causing carbohydrate. Conclusion The LFD is a useful dietary treatment strategy for children with FBD. This study adds to the small body of evidence supporting FODMAP dietary interventions in children with FBD. Further prospective studies are required.

The rapid surge in artificial intelligence (AI) has dominated technological innovation in today's society. As experts begin to understand the potential, a spectrum of opportunities could yield a remarkable revolution. The upsurge in healthcare could transform clinical interventions and outcomes, but it risks dehumanization and increased unethical practices. The field of clinical nutrition and dietetics is no exception. This article finds a multitude of developments underway, which include the use of AI for malnutrition screening; predicting clinical outcomes, such as disease onset, and clinical risks, such as drug interactions; aiding interventions, such as estimating nutrient intake; applying precision nutrition, such as measuring postprandial glycemic response; and supporting workflow through chatbots trained on natural language models. Although the opportunity and scalability of AI is incalculably attractive, especially in the face of poor healthcare resources, the threat cannot be ignored. The risk of malpractice and lack of accountability are some of the main concerns. As such, the healthcare professional's responsibility remains paramount. The data used to train AI models could be biased, which could risk the quality of care to vulnerable or minority patient groups. Standardized AI-development protocols, benchmarked to care recommendations, with rigorous large-scale validation are required to maximize application among different settings.
