Abstract The PEGylated ultrasmall iron oxide nanoparticles (PUSIONPs) exhibit longer blood residence time and better biodegradability than conventional gadolinium‐based contrast agents (GBCAs), enabling prolonged acquisitions in contrast‐enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE‐MRA) applications. The image quality of CE‐MRA is dependent on the contrast agent concentration and the parameters of the pulse sequences. Here, a closed‐form mathematical model is demonstrated and validated to automatically optimize the concentration, echo time (TE), repetition time (TR) and flip angle (FA). The pharmacokinetic studies are performed to estimate the dynamic intravascular concentrations within 12 h postinjection, and the adaptive concentration‐dependent sequence parameters are determined to achieve optimal signal enhancement during a prolonged measurement window. The presented model is tested on phantom and in vivo rat images acquired from a 3T scanner. Imaging results demonstrate excellent agreement between experimental measurements and theoretical predictions, and the adaptive sequence parameters obtain better signal enhancement than the fixed ones. The low‐dose PUSIONPs (0.03 mmol kg−1 and 0.05 mmol kg−1) give a comparable signal intensity to the high‐dose one (0.10 mmol kg−1) within 2 h postinjection. The presented mathematical model provides guidance for the optimization of the concentration and sequence parameters in PUSIONPs‐enhanced MRA, and has great potential for further clinical translation.

Abstract Successful nerve repair using bioadhesive hydrogels demands minimizing tissue–material interfacial mechanical mismatch to reduce immune responses and scar tissue formation. Furthermore, it is crucial to maintain the bioelectrical stimulation‐mediated cell‐signaling mechanism to overcome communication barriers within injured nerve tissues. Therefore, engineering bioadhesives for neural tissue regeneration necessitates the integration of electroconductive properties with tissue‐like biomechanics. In this study, we propose a stretchable bioadhesive based on a custom‐designed chemically modified elastin‐like polypeptides (ELPs) and a choline‐based bioionic liquid (Bio‐IL), providing an electroconductive microenvironment to reconnect damaged nerve tissue. The stretchability akin to native neural tissue was achieved by incorporating hydrophobic ELP pockets, and a robust tissue adhesion was obtained due to multi‐mode tissue–material interactions through covalent and noncovalent bonding at the tissue interface. Adhesion tests revealed adhesive strength ~10 times higher than commercially available tissue adhesive, Evicel®. Furthermore, the engineered hydrogel supported in vitro viability and proliferation of human glial cells. We also evaluated the biodegradability and biocompatibility of the engineered bioadhesive in vivo using a rat subcutaneous implantation model, which demonstrated facile tissue infiltration and minimal immune response. The outlined functionalities empower the engineered elastic and electroconductive adhesive hydrogel to effectively enable sutureless surgical sealing of neural injuries and promote tissue regeneration.

Abstract Aims Heart failure (HF) is a major public health challenge. Malnutrition has a significant effect on HF prognosis. Understanding the impact of social and clinical factors on the risk of malnutrition is necessary because it may aid in improving the health status of HF patients. Methods and results Three hundred twenty patients with HF who were hospitalized in a heart centre in Shiraz, Iran, from March to November 2022 were studied. Two validated questionnaires were used to evaluate malnutrition and social support: (1) Mini‐Nutritional Assessment Short Form and (2) Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey. The participants were then divided into three groups: those with normal nutritional status (scores 12–14), those at risk of malnutrition (scores 7–11), and those who were malnourished (scores 0–6). The potential correlates of malnutrition (including socio‐demographic, clinical, comorbidities, and laboratory factors) were included in the study. Then, ordinal logistic regression was used to investigate the correlates of malnutrition. The mean age of the participants was 64.2 ± 11.2 years, and more than half were male and married. Normal nutritional status was seen in 110 (34.4%) participants, 151 (47.2%) were at risk of malnutrition, and 58 (18.1%) were malnourished. The mean social support score of the participants was 61.65 ± 12.91. According to the adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) obtained from multivariate analysis, increased risk of malnutrition was associated with having a lower social support score [0.95 (0.93–0.97), P‐value ≤ 0.001], lower body mass index [0.91 (0.86–0.97), P‐value = 0.004], higher New York Heart Association classification [1.26 (1.02–1.56), P‐value = 0.03], longer duration of disease [1.006 (1.001–1.01), P‐value = 0.006], and lower serum albumin level [0.25 (0.08–0.75), P‐value = 0.01]. Conclusions Besides the clinical conditions affecting the risk of malnutrition in patients with HF, social support may play an important role. Including this factor in HF guidelines and developing educational programmes may help improve HF patients' health.

Abstract Objective Mutations in the glucocerebrosidase (GBA1) gene and subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN‐DBS) are independently associated with cognitive dysfunction in persons with Parkinson's disease (PwP). We hypothesized that PwP with both GBA1 mutations and STN‐DBS are at greater risk of cognitive dysfunction than PwP with only GBA1 mutations or STN‐DBS, or neither. In this study, we determined the pattern of cognitive dysfunction in PwP based on GBA1 mutation status and STN‐DBS treatment. Methods PwP who are GBA1 mutation carriers with or without DBS (GBA1+DBS+, GBA1+DBS−), and noncarriers with or without DBS (GBA1−DBS+, GBA1−DBS−) were included. Using the NIH Toolbox, cross‐sectional differences in response inhibition, processing speed, and episodic memory were compared using analysis of variance with adjustment for relevant covariates. Results Data were available for 9 GBA1+DBS+, 14 GBA1+DBS−, 17 GBA1−DBS+, and 26 GBA1−DBS− PwP. In this cross‐sectional study, after adjusting for covariates, we found that performance on the Flanker test (measure of response inhibition) was lower in GBA1+DBS+ PwP compared with GBA1−DBS+ PwP (P = 0.030). Interpretation PwP who carry GBA1 mutations and have STN‐DBS have greater impaired response inhibition compared with PwP with STN‐DBS but without GBA1 mutations. Longitudinal data, including preoperative scores, are required to definitively determine whether GBA1 mutation carriers respond differently to STN‐DBS, particularly in the domain of response inhibition.

Abstract In this paper, a multigeneration cycle of electricity, cooling, and Bitcoin whose energy source is geothermal, has been subjected to energy, exergy, and economic analyses. The cycle under consideration includes the steam cycle (upstream cycle), the carbon dioxide cycle (downstream cycle), and the liquid–gas line to absorb the heat dissipated by the carbon dioxide cycle. In this cycle, the steam cycle condenser acts as the carbon dioxide cycle evaporator. Part of the electricity generated by this cycle is used to generate Bitcoins. Energy and exergy efficiencies at baseline (excluding Bitcoin production) are 45.8% and 38.1%, respectively. In this cycle, if more power is spent on producing Bitcoin as a product, the energy and exergy efficiencies of the cycle are reduced. Because Bitcoin itself is not valuable in terms of energy and exergy. Considering the average price of Bitcoin during the years 2015–2022 and if 100% of the electricity generated by the system is spent on Bitcoin production, the payback period in 2018, 2021, and 2022 when the price of Bitcoin is equal to $13,412.4, $21,398.8, and $47,743.0, respectively, are less than the baseline. Therefore, the production of Bitcoin with a variety of renewable energies can be considered as a solution. Of course, it should be noted that large changes in the price of Bitcoin can affect the issue of economic benefit.

Abstract Objectives The goal of this study is to measure and compare the hormonal serum levels (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, prolactin, dihydrotestosterone [DHT]) in trigeminal neuroglia (TN) menopausal women and healthy women. Materials and Methods This cross‐sectional and case‐control study was performed in 2018 and 2019. For this study, menopausal women with confirmed TN were enrolled. Twenty‐two healthy women in the control group and 19 in the case group participated. Blood samples were taken from participants for assessment of hormonal serum levels (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, prolactin, DHT). Data were analyzed by SPSS version 18. Mann−Whitney, T‐test, kormography test, nonmetric, χ2 test, and odds ratios have been used. Results In patients with TN, the serum level of testosterone was significantly higher (p = .036), and the serum level of prolactin (p = .016) was significantly lower. Other evaluated hormones' serum level was identical in the two groups. Patients with abnormal estrogen levels were more in the TN group in comparison with the healthy group. The abnormality of progesterone in TN patients was more in comparison to the healthy control group. Conclusions Estrogen and progesterone serum levels in TN patients are higher in comparison with the healthy group, while prolactin and testosterone serum levels are lower in the control group. Moreover, the DHE serum level is similar in both groups.

Abstract Objectives This study sought to determine the impact of age, gender, and use of maxillary implant‐supported overdenture (UISOD) versus conventional denture (CMD) opposing mandibular implant‐supported overdenture (LISOD) and the number of years the patient has used their prosthesis on the ratings of satisfaction. This study aimed to assess the long‐term influence of different factors on patients' satisfaction with LISODs needing a maxillary prosthesis, helping dentists choose a treatment pathway that leads to a higher satisfaction rate. Material and Methods This cross‐sectional study included 84 participants. They were treated with LISOD opposing either CMD or UISOD from 2015 to 2020. They were all eligible to participate in the study. An oral health impact profile (OHIP‐14) questionnaire was given to each patient and filled out by them. OHIP‐14 scores were gathered and went under statistical analysis with PASS‐11 software to determine the relationship between patients' satisfaction with the scores. Abstract A number of high‐sensitivity microwave sensors with compact resonators are designed, fabricated, and tested for non‐invasive blood glucose monitoring. In the first step, a split ring resonator (SRR)‐based sensor is designed, and then it’s sensing parameters, viz. the reflection coefficient magnitude and phase coupled with its input impedance, are extracted and calibrated by different glucose solutions. The results of this structure are subsequently saved as a reference sensor. During the second step, the swastika‐shaped and electric‐LC (ELC) geometries are substituted for the SRR to enhance the sensitivity of the reference sensor, and the sensing parameters of these structures, which are sensitive to the glucose solutions, are obtained. In the third step, the sensitivity of the three proposed designs is calculated and compared, using the reflection coefficient amplitude, phase, and input impedance. The comparisons typically demonstrate that the sensitivity of the swastika‐shaped structure is equal to 148.367 (Ω/mgmL−1) if the sensitivity is acquired from the imaginary part of the input impedance, which is better than the SRR and ELC geometries. On the contrary, the sensitivity of the SRR geometry is at a maximum and equal to 16.79 (deg/mgmL−1) if the sensitivity is calculated in terms of the reflection coefficient phase.

Abstract Objectives About 94% of oral cancers are squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs). Its occurrence is age‐related due to some factors. Salivary biomarkers have good susceptibility to OSCC's early diagnosis. Moreover, since the clinical diagnosis of advanced stages of OSCC is feasible, its prognosis is very poor. Material and Methods According to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 40 OSCC patients and 40 healthy people were selected, and 5 mL of saliva were prepared from each person. The quantity of saline transferrin was computed. After that, the data were analyzed. Results Our study results demonstrated that the mean and standard deviation of the salivary transferrin in the control group were 1.234 mL and 0.374, respectively, and in the case group, it was equal to 2.512 mL for the mean and 0.463 for the standard deviation. There was a statistically substantial difference between the mean of the salivary transferrin variable in the two study groups. Conclusion In conclusion, the mean concentration of salivary transferrin in the case group was higher than in the control group.

Abstract Aim The present study aimed to explain the barriers to effective clinical supervision from the perspective of nurses. Design Qualitative descriptive study. Methods The present study enrolled 21 nurses selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi‐structured interviews, which were digitally recorded and immediately transcribed verbatim, and analysed using content analysis method. Results From the nurses' perspective, the influential barriers included poor academic, ethical, communicational, professional competencies at the passive management level, defects in supervision prerequisites, conventional beliefs, ineffective organization, shortage of workforce at the level of inappropriate context, lack of motivation and poor accountability at inadequate professional maturity level. Public Contribution The following items affect how clinical supervision is implemented: Motivation, accountability at the personal level, sufficient workforce, conducive conditions, effective organization of resources, and preparing the individual for supervision at the organizational level to implement effective clinical supervision.

Abstract Introduction Vascular dementia (VaD) is a common type of dementia. The aim of this study was to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanism of conditioned medium (CM) in VaD. Material and methods The rats were divided into four groups of control (n = 9), sham‐operation (n = 10), VaD with vehicle (n = 9), and VaD with CM (n = 12) that received CM on days 4, 14, and 24 after 2VO. Before sacrificing the rats, cognitive performance was assessed through the open‐field (OP), passive‐avoidance, and Morris‐water maze. The field‐potential recording was used to investigate basal synaptic transmission (BST) and long‐term potentiation (LTP). Subsequently, the hippocampus was dissected, and real‐time PCR was used to quantify the expression levels of β1‐catenin, insulin‐like growth factor‐1 (IGF‐1), transforming growth factor‐beta (TGF‐β), glycogen synthase kinase‐3β (GSK‐3β), postsynaptic density protein 95 (PSD‐95), and NR2B genes. Results The results indicated impaired performance in behavioral tests in 2VO rats, coupled with reductions in BST and LTP induction. The expression levels of β1‐catenin, IGF‐1, PSD‐95, and TGF‐β genes decreased, whereas NR2B and GSK‐3β expression increased. Treatment with CM restores the expression of PSD‐95 and GSK‐3β as well as fear‐memory, spatial learning, and grooming number without a positive effect on memory retrieval, time spent on the periphery and center of OP. The BST recovered upon administration of CM but, the LTP induction was still impaired. Conclusion The recovery of BST in VaD rats appears to be the most important outcome of this study which is caused by the improvement of gene expression and leads to the restoration of fear memory.

Abstract Water scarcity threatens human life and it is likely to be a main concern in the next century. In this work, a novel multigeneration system (MGS) is introduced and assessed with energy, exergy, and economic analyses. This MGS includes a gas cycle, multieffect distillation, an absorption refrigeration cycle, a heat recovery steam generator, and electrodialysis. Electrodialysis is integrated into this configuration to produce sodium hydroxide and hydrogen chloride from brine to prevent its release to the environment with harmful impacts. The other products are electricity, cooling, and demineralized water. For the evaluation of the proposed system, one computer code is provided in engineering equation solver software. For physical properties calculation, the library of this software is used. The MGS produces 614.7 GWh of electrical energy, 87.44 GWh of cooling, 12.47 million m3 of demineralized water, and 0.092 and 0.084 billion kg of sodium hydroxide and hydrogen chloride over a year. Energy and exergy evaluations demonstrate that the MGS energy and exergy efficiencies are 31.3% and 18.7%, respectively. The highest and lowest value of exergy destruction rate is associated with the combustion chamber and pump, respectively. The economic evaluation indicates that the net present value of this proposed system is 3.8 billion US$, while the internal rate of return and payback period, respectively, are 0.49 and 2.1 years.

Abstract Background Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a prevalent mental disorder, particularly in those seeking plastic surgery, leading to unnecessary surgeries and postsurgical dissatisfaction. Among the plastic surgeries, rhinoplasty is the most commonly sought, yet the data on prevalence of BDD among the candidates of rhinoplasty is limited. Therefore, this systematic review and meta‐analysis aimed to estimate the prevalence of BDD in rhinoplasty candidates. Methods The online libraries of Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, Research Square, Scopus, and Google Scholar were searched up to August 2022. Statistical analyses were performed using STATA software (v. 16). The heterogeneity was determined using the I2 statistic, and an overall estimated analysis was conducted. Subgroup analyses were performed on study year, age, gender, World Health Organization regional classification, sociodemographic index, country, sample size, and employed diagnostic tool. A meta‐regression analysis was performed to identify potential sources of heterogeneity. Results Out of 12,999 studies assessed, 18, with a combined sample size of 2132 individuals, met our criteria and were included in the study. The pooled prevalence of BDD was 32.7% (95% CI: 23.6−41.7; I2 = 96.45%). Subgroup analyses revealed the studies that were conducted in the European region (42.8%), with a sample size of ≥100 (40.2%), utilized the BDD modification of the Y‐BOCS (BDD‐YBOCS) diagnostic method (47.3%), and with a quality score of ≥6 (34.2%) demonstrated higher prevalence of BDD. The meta‐regression analysis identified a higher prevalence in the BDD‐YBOCS diagnostic method than in the BDD questionnaire (β: 0.23; 95% CI: 0.04−0.43; p = 0.022). Conclusions The prevalence of BDD is high in those seeking rhinoplasty. Clinicians should be aware of BDD symptoms to prevent unnecessary surgery and dissatisfaction. Public awareness through the media and access to affordable medical services should also be provided.

Abstract Background and Aims Reinfection with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) virus may be as serious as the first infection, exposing people to risks such as admission to hospital or even death. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of and the factors related to reinfection in Ahvaz, Iran. Methods This was a comparative cross‐sectional study that was conducted on 200 reinfected individuals and 200 people who had once been infected with COVID‐19. Infection with COVID‐19 was confirmed using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, and those with reinfection had to have a negative PCR test after recovery from the first infection and a positive PCR test for COVID‐19 > 90 days after the first infection. Data was collected using a questionnaire and a checklist. Data were analyzed using the Chi‐square test, independent t‐test, and logistic regression test. Results Around 7000 reinfections were observed in this study, and the prevalence of reinfection was 0.59% in Ahvaz City. A large proportion of the participants in the control group, 133 (66.5%) received two doses of COVID‐19 vaccines compared with 110 (55%) in the reinfected group (p = 0.003), and 43 (21.5%) of reinfected participants did not receive any vaccine. Older people were 0.982 times more likely to get reinfected with COVID‐19 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.966–0.997). Also, those receiving vaccination once or twice were 2.311 and 2.498 times less likely to get reinfected with COVID‐19, respectively (95% CI: 1.093–4.887 and 1.281–4.872, respectively). Conclusion The findings of this study showed that the prevalence of reinfection among people in Ahvaz City was 0.59%. Older individuals, those without vaccination or with suboptimal vaccination, and people with comorbidities were at a higher risk for reinfection. Health policymakers should pay more attention to factors related to reinfection with COVID‐19.

Abstract Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is an uncommon proliferative disease with an unknown cause. Its clinical manifestations vary and can involve a variety of organs. To diagnose LCH, radiographs, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings are essential. The gold standard for a definite diagnosis is positive CD1a/CD207 and S100 in the immunohistochemical results. Different treatment plans are available for patients struggling with LCH. To our knowledge, the LCH incidence rate is about 8.9 in one million children and 1–2 cases in one million adults. Our case shows the importance of early diagnosis of this rare condition for the prevention of any further spreading. This case report is about a 35‐year‐old male patient struggling with diabetes insipidus with a chief complaint of tooth mobility. Based on his X‐ray radiographs, osteolytic lesions were found. A biopsy was performed, and due to histopathological and immunohistochemical findings, it was diagnosed as a case of LCH in adults. This paper shows that although the incidence rate of LCH is rare in adults, dealing with a patient struggling with diabetes insipidus and osteolytic bone lesions with an unknown cause, LCH must be taken into consideration. Due to the fact that LCH's first manifestations are mostly first oral, its good prognosis in the early stages, and if it progresses, it can turn fatal, it is important that dentists are aware of this disease, its clinical manifestations, and patient management. In case of suspicion, X‐ray examination, biopsy, histopathological, and immunohistochemical exams must be performed.

Abstract Background and Aims Some studies have shown that the levels of stress, anxiety, and depression have increased among subfertile women during the COVID‐19 pandemic. This study was designed to evaluate the levels of depression, anxiety, and stress among subfertile women during the COVID‐19 pandemic in southwest Iran. Method This cross‐sectional study was conducted on 190 subfertile women from two infertility centers (Imam Khomeini and Jihad) in Ahvaz, Iran. A demographic questionnaire, and the depression, anxiety, stress scale (DASS‐21) were used to assess the level of depression, anxiety, and stress of subfertile women during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Data collection started in August 2021 and was completed in December 2021. Mean ± SD or N (%), and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the data. Result Results showed that most women experienced moderate depression, anxiety, and stress. However, the percentage of women who experienced very severe anxiety was more than that for depression and stress, and 75 (39.5%) of women had all three disorders together. Anxiety was 0.176 units lower in women who were not affected by COVID‐19 (95% CI: −5.781 to −0.629). The depression was 0.216 units lower in women with good and moderate economic status (95% CI: −5.603 to −1.178). Conclusion The results of this study showed that most studied women experienced moderate depression, anxiety, and stress, but the percentages of very severe anxiety were more than that for depression and stress. Poor economic status was also a strong predictor of depression among subfertile women. Infection with COVID‐19 increased the level of anxiety. Careful evaluation of subfertile women for mental health is recommended especially during crises such as the COVID‐19 pandemic.

Abstract Introduction This study aimed to evaluate the levels of sex hormones in patients with COVID‐19 in Ahvaz, Iran. Methods A prospective longitudinal study was conducted at Razi hospital, Ahvaz, Iran, from July 2020 to Febuary 2021. The levels of sex hormones including estradiol, progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and total and free testosterone were measured in 162 patients with COVID‐19 infection during hospitalization and 1 month after discharge. A demographic questionnaire and a checklist were used to collect the data. Mann−Whitney U test, χ2 test, Fisher's exact test, Wilcoxon test, and logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Results Sex hormones were assessed in 162 patients at baseline; however, a month after discharge, only 69 patients provided consent for assessment, and 9 had passed away. The estradiol level was 407.70 ± 623.37 and 213.78 ± 407.17 pg/ml in female patients with severe and moderate diseases at baseline, respectively which reduced to 195.33 ± 380.04 and 58.20 ± 39.45 pg/ml after discharge (p = 0.011 and p = 0.001). The alteration in the levels of progesterone, LH, and FSH were not significant. The level of LH in both groups of male patients with severe (6.64 ± 2.91 IU) and moderate disease (6.42 ± 4.44 IU) was high, which reduced after discharge (4.16 ± 2.44 and 3.93 ± 3.15 IU, respectively), but this decrease was significant only in the patients with severe disease (p

Abstract Lipoma is a rare benign tumor. Fibrolipoma, a variant of lipoma, is relatively uncommon in mouth tissues. Among all benign lesions of oral cavity, the approximate incidence rate of lipoma is 1%–4%, with a prevalence rate of about 0.0002%. Fibrolipoma is an extremely rare subtype of lipoma, especially in the attached gingiva. This subtype accounts for 1.6% of all facial lipomas, with a prevalence rate of 1/5000 adults in the oral and oropharyngeal region. It is diagnosed by histopathologic and immunohistochemistry evaluation and treated by total excision. Due to the adhesion to the surrounding tissues and pseudo‐infiltrating characteristics of this lesion, it can get mistaken with malignant lesions; therefore, a histological examination is mandatory. In this paper, a case of a patient with attached gingiva fibrolipoma treated by surgical excision is reported. This case report is about a 26‐year‐old female patient in Shiraz School of Dentistry with a fibrolipoma of attached gingiva. Because of fibrolipoma's growth tendency, adhesion to the surrounding tissues, and specific histological characteristics, its differential diagnosis with malignant infiltrating tumors is important. Surgical excision is the gold standard for treatment. Accurate differential diagnosis, careful histological examination, and periodic follow‐up are essential.

Abstract Background Different genetic variants in hormone‐regulating pathways have been identified to influence the risk of breast cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the association of CYP19A1 rs10046 and rs700519 polymorphisms with the risk, clinicopathological factors and prognosis of breast cancer. Methods In a case‐control study, rs10046 and rs700519 polymorphisms were genotyped using ARMS‐PCR and high‐resolution melting (HRM), respectively, in a total of 702 females.
