Our purpose was to comparatively investigate the expressions of nidogen-1 (NID1) and legumain (LGMN) in patients with endometrial cancer, endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia, and proliferative endometrium.A cross-sectional, single-center study was performed by the obstetrics and gynecology and pathology departments of our institution. The relationships between descriptive data, clinicopathologic information, and immunohistochemical expressions of NID1 and LGMN were investigated.The histological grades of endometrial cancers (n = 124) as classified by FIGO included 1 (41, 21.1%), 2 (48, 24.7%), and 3 (35, 18.0%). The medians and ranges of deep and superficial NID1 expressions were 50.00 (0-285) and 5.00 (0-100), respectively. The intensity of legumain expression was noted as negative (30, 24.2%), mild (16, 12.9%), moderate (27, 21.8%), or strong (51, 41.1%). Median disease-free survival and overall survival were 75.00 (range: 1 to 170) months and 77.00 (range: 1 to 170) months, respectively. Patients with more intense expression of NID1 and LGMN displayed a higher histological grade. These patients were more likely to have a positive peritoneal cytology, larger tumor size, higher tendency for myometrial or lymphovascular invasion, involvement of ovaries, cervix, omentum, as well as lymph node metastasis, and recurrence.Our data indicated that the expressions of NID1 and LGMN may have important diagnostic implications in endometrial pathologies. Further studies should be performed to understand the significance of NID1 and LGMN in the pathogenesis of endometrial tumors.

A new series of 1,3-benzoxazol-2(3H)-one hybrid compounds, including coumarin, isatin 1,3,4-triazole and 1,3,4-thiadiazole moieties, were synthesized and biologically evaluated for their antioxidant capacities and anti-urease properties. The synthesized benzoxazole-coumarin (6a–e) and benzoxazole-isatin (10a–c) hybrids showed remarkable urease inhibitory activities with IC50 (μM), ranging from 0.0306 ± 0.0030 to 0.0402 ± 0.0030, while IC50 of standard thiourea is 0.5027 ± 0.0293. The synthesized benzoxazole-triazole (8a–c) and benzoxazole-thiadiazole (9a–c) hybrids showed similar urease inhibitory activities with IC50 (μM), ranging from 0.3861 ± 0.0379 to 0.5126 ± 0.0345. The antioxidant activity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated for their antioxidant activities, such as reducing power and ABTS (2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) diammonium salt) radical scavenging. The results of ABTS radical scavenging activities of some of the synthesized molecules showed higher activities than standard Trolox, SC50 (μM) = 213.04 ± 18.12. One benzoxazole-coumarin (6f), two benzoxazole-isothiocyanate (7b, 7c), and two benzoxazole-triazole (8b, 8c) derivatives showed higher activities (SC50 (μM) values, 82.07 ± 10.34, 120.19 ± 7.30, 104.58 ± 10.55, 153.26 ± 7.14, and 144.82 ± 10.68, respectively) than standard Trolox, (SC50 (μM) = 213.04 ± 18.12). This study is conducted to characterize some nutritional attributes and starch properties of 156 Turkish sorghum populations and 4 standard cultivars (Sorghum bicolor L.). Crude protein contents of the populations vary between 6.67% and 14.33%, digestible protein ratios between 6.67% and 82.24%, crude oil contents between 2.15% and 6.40%, phytic acid contents between 0.37% and 4.09%, resistant starch between 1.10% and 34.23%, nonresistant starch between 10.79% and 79.61%, total starch between 15.42% and 85.54%, amylose between 5.67% and 43.48%, amylopectin between 9.45% and 65.67%, total phenolic between 0.19% and 5.06 mg GAE/g and antiradical activity between 3.72% and 91.48%. Significant differences are obtained from starch-based Rapid Visco Analyzer parameters of sorghum genotypes. As compared standard cultivars, several superior genotypes are identified in terms of nutritional characteristics. Genotype treatment (GT) biplot analysis revealed ideal genotypes for investigated parameters. Present findings confirmed that there are many genotypes with superior nutritional properties in local sorghum genotypes.

A simple and practical method has been developed for the synthesis of bisbenzimidazoles. Iminoester hydrochlorides of phenylacetic acids were used as intermediates in this reaction with 3,3′-diaminobenzidine under microwave irradiation leading to the products with good yields and in short reaction times. This method can be a general technique for the synthesis of bisbenzimidazoles.

A series of new 1,2,4-triazole-3-one derivatives bearing the salicyl moiety were synthesized by using microwave irradiation, and their chemical structures were identified by IR, (1) H NMR, (13) C NMR, elemental analysis, and LC-MS. The anticonvulsant activities of the compounds 4a-c, 4e, and 5a-e were evaluated by the Anticonvulsant Screening Program of the National Institute of Health, USA. The compounds had moderate anticonvulsant activities in the maximum electroshock-induced seizure and minimal clonic seizure models in mice, without any neurotoxic effects.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We presented MRI and DWI findings of a 12-year-old boy with primary carnitine deficiency, manifested with hypoglycemic hypoketotic encephalopathy. METHODS Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) were performed to the patient. RESULTS In our case, T2 hyperintensity and diffusion restriction were noted bilaterally in the corona radiate, cerebral white matter, deep white matter of cerebellum, ascending (inferior cerebellar peduncle) and descending tracts (corticospinal and corticobulbar tracts) of brainstem. CONCLUSIONS MRI and DWI are helpful in the diagnosis, therapy planning and follow up of encephalopathic cases with carnitine deficiency.

4-Bromo-o-phenylenediamine and ethylimido-p-bromophenylacetate, 1, were subjected to microwave irradiation to synthesize benzimidazole derivative, compound 2. Ester derivative, 3, and hydrazide derivative, 4, of compound 2 were also synthesized, respectively. Finally, compound 4 was treated with 11 different aromatic aldehydes to obtain benzimidazole derivatives containing imine function. All reactions were carried out with microwave irradiation and conventional heating, and results were compared. Some of the newly synthesized compounds showed moderate antimicrobial activity against some tested organisms.

A new series of quinazolinone hybrid molecules containing coumarin, furan, 1,2,4-triazole and 1,2,4-thiadiazole rings was designed, synthesized, and screened for their urease inhibition activities. All newly synthesized compounds showed outstanding urease inhibitory potentials with IC50 values ranging between 1.26 ± 0.07 and 7.35 ± 0.31 μg/mL. Among the series, coumarin derivatives (10a-d) exhibited the best inhibitory effect against urease in the range of IC50 = 1.26 ± 0.07 to 1.82 ± 0.10 μg/mL, when compared to standard urease inhibitors such as acetohydroxamic acid and thiourea (IC50 = 21.05 ± 0.96 and 15.08 ± 0.71 μg/mL, respectively). Molecular docking studies were also performed to analyze the binding mode of compound 10b, and supported the experimental results.

A new series of 2-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole derivatives containing a 1,2,4-triazole ring were synthesized via microwave technique. This efficient procedure provides pure products within a few minutes. The newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by (1) H NMR and (13) C NMR spectra and they were screened for their lipase inhibition and antioxidant activities. Compounds 4a, 4b, 5a, and 5b showed very good scavenging activity.

The high yielding reaction between benzimidazole hydrazides and (benzotriazolylcarbonyl)chromenone is performed in a very small amount of solvent without a catalyst.

Background: Intraventricular dyssynchrony is associated with worsening systolic function, adverse remodeling, and clinical events. The aim of this study is to investigate whether intraventricular dyssynchrony assessed by tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) can predict left ventricular (LV) remodeling after first ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated successfully with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). Methods: Fifty-two consecutive patients who presented with first acute STEMI were included in the study. All patients underwent successful pPCI. Standard echocardiography was performed within 48 hours of admission. LV dyssynchrony was assessed by color-coded TDI. Dyssynchrony (Ts-diff) was calculated by maximal temporal difference between time to peak systolic velocities (Ts) of six basal segments. Echocardiographic examination was repeated after 6 months to reassess LV volumes. LV remodeling was defined as >15% increase in LV end-systolic volume index (LVESVI) after 6 months. Results: Eleven patients (23%) developed LV remodeling. Baseline dyssynchrony was found to be correlated with percent change in LVESVI and LV end-diastolic volume index (LVEDVI) after 6 months. Ts-diff, creatine kinase-MB and mitral inflow E-wave deceleration time (DT) were the independent predictors of remodeling after STEMI in multivariate logistic regression analysis. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that Ts-diff >56 msec had 72.7% sensitivity and 83.8% specificity for predicting remodeling. Conclusions: LV dyssynchrony is a strong predictor of LV remodeling after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). It could be useful in risk stratification of patients after AMI. Ectopic thyroid tissue is a result of abnormal migration of thyroid tissue during the embryonic state. Most of these rare cases, almost 90% of them, are located in the base of the tongue and a minority of them is located anteriorly near the hyoid bone area. Below we report the case of a young patient with an intracardiac mass first diagnosed with three-dimensional echocardiography and afterward successfully treated surgically. Once a careful histological examination has revealed a follicular adenoma, the prognosis is good especially if successful surgical excision is part of the management.

Cor triatriatum sinister (CTS) is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly in which a fibromuscular membrane divides the atrium into two chambers. As CTS can occur as an isolated anomaly, it is frequently associated with other cardiac anomalies. Although symptoms are usually encountered in infancy, CTS may rarely present in adulthood when the membrane contains large fenestration or other escape drainage exists. We herein, present an 82-year-old patient with a typical late diagnosis of asymptomatic CTS.

Advantages of the new method are simple work-up procedure, no catalyst requirements, and use of small quantities of organic solvents.

The design, synthesis, and investigation of antitumor and anti-lipase activities of some coumarin–triazole hybrid molecules are reported. The synthesis of these hybrid molecules was performed under microwave irradiation and conventional heating procedures. The newly synthesized hybrid molecules were investigated as inhibitors against four tumor cell lines (BT20 human breast carcinoma, SK-Mel 128 melanoma, DU-145 prostate carcinoma, and A549 lung carcinoma) and porcine pancreatic lipase (PPL). Most of these compounds showed notable antitumor activities against the tested tumor cell lines, and compounds 8i and 8l showed the best anti-lipase activity of 99.30 ± 0.56% and 99.85 ± 1.21%, respectively, at a concentration of 10 μM.

An efficient and easy method for the synthesis of triazolone derivatives (III) and their conversion into 5-mercapto-1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives (VIII) using microwave chemistry is described.
