Abstract Epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation play a significant role in depression. This research has shown that Ten‐eleven translocation 2 (Tet2) deficiency prompts depression‐like behaviors, but Tet2's transcriptional regulation remains unclear. In the study, bioinformatics is used to identify nuclear receptor subfamily 2 group E member 3 (Nr2e3) as a potential Tet2 regulator. Nr2e3 is found to enhance Tet2's transcriptional activity by binding to its promoter region. Nr2e3 knockdown in mouse hippocampus leads to reduced Tet2 expression, depression‐like behaviors, decreased hydroxymethylation of synaptic genes, and downregulation of synaptic proteins like postsynaptic density 95 KDa (PSD95) and N‐methy‐d‐aspartate receptor 1 (NMDAR1). Fewer dendritic spines are also observed. Nr2e3 thus appears to play an antidepressant role under stress. In search of potential treatments, small molecule compounds to increase Nr2e3 expression are screened. Azacyclonal (AZA) is found to enhance the Nr2e3/Tet2 pathway and exhibited antidepressant effects in stressed mice, increasing PSD95 and NMDAR1 expression and dendritic spine density. This study illuminates Tet2's upstream regulatory mechanism, providing a new target for identifying early depression biomarkers and developing treatments.

Abstract Perspiration plays a pivotal role not only in thermoregulation but also in reflecting the body's internal state and its response to external stimuli. The up‐to‐date skin‐based wearable platforms have facilitated the monitoring and simultaneous analysis of sweat, offering valuable physiological insights. Unlike conventional passive sweating, dynamic normal perspiration, which occurs during various activities and rest periods, necessitates a more reliable method of collection to accurately capture its real‐time fluctuations. An innovative microfluidic patch incorporating a hierarchical superhydrophilic biosponge, poise to significantly improve the efficiency capture of dynamic sweat is introduced. The seamlessly integrated biosponge microchannel showcases exceptional absorption capabilities, efficiently capturing non‐sensitive sweat exuding from the skin surface, mitigating sample loss and minimizing sweat volatilization. Furthermore, the incorporation of sweat‐rate sensors alongside a suite of functional electrochemical sensors endows the patch of uninterrupted monitoring and analysis of dynamic sweat during various activities, stress events, high‐energy intake, and other scenarios.

Abstract Background The intestine of young ruminants is in the developmental stage and has weaker resistance to the changes of external environment. Improving intestinal health is vital to promoting growth of young ruminants. This study investigated effects of guanidino acetic acid (GAA) and rumen‐protected betaine (RPB) supplementation on growth, dietary nutrient digestion and GAA metabolism in the small intestine of sheep. Abstract Neuron localization is a fundamental step in the neuron morphology reconstruction and quantitative analysis of cell counting and spatial distribution. The recent development of labelling and imaging techniques has resulted in growing demand for automatic neuron localization methods of 3D neuronal microscopy images. However, accurately localizing touching neurons remains a challenge. To address this issue, a novel method utilizing a super‐resolution segmentation network based on 2D Conv‐LSTM and a region growing method are proposed. This network can map and detect individual neurons in higher resolution space, allowing for the separation of closely touching neurons with reduced resource consumption. Subsequently, a region growing method is employed to localize neurons accurately. This method is evaluated using neuronal images generated by TDI‐fMOST. This method achieved neuron localization with an F1 score of 0.91. In comparison, other automatic localization methods achieved F1 scores lower than 0.85. It is also demonstrated that our network has fewer computational requirements compared to 3D neural networks. This method is promising for accurately localizing neurons in large‐scale neuron images.

Abstract A 3D nanostructured scaffold as the host for zinc enables effective inhibition of anodic dendrite growth. However, the increased electrode/electrolyte interface area provided by using 3D matrices exacerbates the passivation and localized corrosion of the Zn anode, ultimately bringing about the degradation of the electrochemical performance. Herein, a nanoscale coating of inorganic–organic hybrid (α‐In2Se3‐Nafion) onto a flexible carbon nanotubes (CNTs) framework (ISNF@CNTs) is designed as a Zn plating/stripping scaffold to ensure uniform Zn nucleation, thus achieving a dendrite‐free and durable Zn anode. The introduced inorganic–organic interfacial layer is dense and sturdy, which hinders the direct exposure of deposited Zn to electrolytes and mitigates the side reactions. Meanwhile, the zincophilic nature of ISNF can largely reduce the nucleation energy barrier and promote the ion‐diffusion transportation. Consequently, the ISNF@CNTs@Zn electrode exhibits a low‐voltage hysteresis and a superior cycling life (over 1500 h), with dendrite‐free Zn‐plating behaviors in a typical symmetrical cell test. Additionally, the superior feature of ISNF@CNTs@Zn anode is further demonstrated by Zn‐MnO2 cells in both coin and flexible quasi‐solid‐state configurations. This work puts forward an inspired remedy for advanced Zn‐ion batteries.

Abstract Toll‐like receptors (TLRs) are an important family of pattern‐recognition receptors that recognize a series of pathogen‐associated molecular patterns to trigger the host immune response. In the present study, we identified three TLR13 genes (i.e., LcLTR13a, LcTLR13b, and LcTLR13c) in American bullfrogs, Lithobates catesbeianus, and explored their constitutive and pathogen‐induced expression profile in different tissues. The open reading frames of LcLTR13a, LcTLR13b and LcTLR13c are 2811, 2844, and 2814 bp long, encoding 955, 947, and 933 amino acids, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis showed that three LcTLR13 genes grouping in different subclades indicate the gene duplication of bullfrog TLR13 as in teleost. The three LcTLR13 genes were expressed in all the tissues examined, with the liver and spleen expressing the higher levels. Moreover, the expression levels of LcLTR13a, LcTLR13b, and LcTLR13c were significantly induced in the liver and spleen after bullfrogs were challenged with bacterial (i.e., Citrobacter freundii, Aeromonas hydrophila, and Edwardsiella tarda) pathogens. These results indicate that LcTLR13 genes play an essential role in the bullfrog antibacterial innate immune response, providing new insights into immune mechanisms of bullfrogs.

Abstract Introduction Fungal communities are key players in the soil biogeochemical processes of forest ecosystems. Although it has been illustrated that soil fungi are susceptible to environmental changes, little is known about the interactive effects of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) enrichment on the soil fungal functional guild. Materials and Methods Here, a 5‐year N and P addition manipulation experiment was conducted in two growing stages (i.e., tree ages 80 years) of a subtropical forest, in which soil fungal diversity and functional guilds were investigated using a multiple‐time sampling strategy. Results Fungal species richness and Shannon indices were significantly different across sampling times. Fungal community composition was significantly affected by both N and P addition but not by forest age. Old forest had a higher fungal network complexity than young forest, and fertilisation decreased soil fungal network complexity and generated looser and more random networks in comparison with the control. The community composition of symbiotrophic and saprotrophic fungi was significantly impacted by N and P addition and correlated with soil available P and total P contents and soil C:P and N:P. Conclusions Our findings highlight that soil P availability has a strong effect on soil fungal communities and their functional guild composition in the subtropical forest.

Abstract Developing efficient metal‐nitrogen‐carbon (M‐N‐C) single‐atom catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is significant for the widespread implementation of Zn‐air batteries, while the synergic design of the matrix microstructure and coordination environment of metal centers remains challenges. Herein, a novel salt effect‐induced strategy is proposed to engineer N and P coordinated atomically dispersed Fe atoms with extra‐axial Cl on interlinked porous carbon nanosheets, achieving a superior single‐atom Fe catalyst (denoted as Fe‐NP‐Cl‐C) for ORR and Zn‐air batteries. The hierarchical porous nanosheet architecture can provide rapid mass/electron transfer channels and facilitate the exposure of active sites. Experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal the distinctive Fe‐N2P2‐Cl active sites afford significantly reduced energy barriers and promoted reaction kinetics for ORR. Consequently, the Fe‐NP‐Cl‐C catalyst exhibits distinguished ORR performance with a half‐wave potential (E1/2) of 0.92 V and excellent stability. Remarkably, the assembled Zn‐air battery based on Fe‐NP‐Cl‐C delivers an extremely high peak power density of 260 mW cm−2 and a large specific capacity of 812 mA h g−1, outperforming the commercial Pt/C and most reported congeneric catalysts. This study offers a new perspective on structural optimization and coordination engineering of single‐atom catalysts for efficient oxygen electrocatalysis and energy conversion devices.

Abstract In view of the existing literature, only the optimization operation of hydrogen energy–wind/light new energy is considered, and the research problems such as comprehensive utilization of water resources and load control strategies are ignored. Based on the analysis of load characteristics of offshore wind power, this paper has established an optimal operation model of power‐fresh water energy system based on “wind‐hydrogen‐water‐electricity” interaction. Meanwhile, an electrolytic hydrogen individual load control strategy is proposed to match wind power fluctuations from the perspective of internal load regulation of electrolytic hydrogen system. From the economic characteristics, operation characteristics, accommodation situation and other simulation analysis, it can reduce the total operating cost by about 3.1%, improve the utilization rate of electrolytic cell capacity, and meet the water demand of coastal users. It shows that the individual control strategy and optimal operation model have advantages, which is of great significance for realizing low‐carbon, safe, and economical operation of power grid in the future.

Abstract Immune responses induced by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) infection play a critical role in the pathogenesis and outcome of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19). However, the dynamic profile of immune responses postinfection by SARS‐CoV‐2 variants of concern (VOC) is not fully understood. In this study, peripheral blood mononuclear cells single‐cell sequencing was performed to determine dynamic profiles of immune response to Prototype, Alpha, Beta, and Delta in a rhesus monkey model. Overall, all strains induced dramatic changes in both cellular subpopulations and gene expression levels at 1 day postinfection (dpi), which associated function including adaptive immune response, innate immunity, and IFN response. COVID‐19‐related genes revealed different gene profiles at 1 dpi among the four SARS‐CoV‐2 strains, including genes reported in COVID‐19 patients with increased risk of autoimmune disease and rheumatic diseases. Delta‐infected animal showed inhibition of translation pathway. B cells, T cells, and monocytes showed much commonality rather than specificity among the four strains. Monocytes were the major responders to SARS‐CoV‐2 infection, and the response lasted longer in Alpha than the other strains. Thus, this study reveals the early immune responses induced by SARS‐CoV‐2 Proto or its variants in nonhuman primates, which is important information for controlling rapidly evolving viruses.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to investigate the incidence, consequences, and predictors of serious chemotherapy‐induced thrombocytopenia (CIT) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Materials and Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of patients with NPC between 2013 and 2015. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model and propensity score matching were used to estimate the effect of serious CIT on overall survival. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied to identify the predictors of serious CIT. Results and Conclusion The incidence of serious CIT was 5.21% in patients with NPC. Patients who experienced serious thrombocytopenia had a worse long‐term prognosis, while the difference in short‐term survival rate was slight. Chemotherapy regimens of gemcitabine and platinum, 5‐fluorouracil and platinum, taxane and platinum, serum potassium ion concentration, serum lactate dehydrogenase levels, platelet count, red blood cell count, and estimated glomerular filtration rate were predictors of serious CIT.

Abstract Background Studies on robotic total gastrectomy (RTG) are currently limited. This study aimed to compare the intraoperative performance as well as short‐ and long‐term outcomes of RTG and laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG). Methods A total of 969 patients underwent robotic (n = 161) or laparoscopic (n = 636) total gastrectomy between October 2014 and October 2021. The two groups of patients were matched 1:3 using the propensity score matching (PSM) method. The intraoperative performance as well as short‐ and long‐term outcomes of the robotic (n = 147) and the laparoscopic (n = 371) groups were compared. Results After matching, the estimated intraoperative blood loss was lower (80.51 ± 68.77 vs. 89.89 ± 66.12, p = 0.008), and the total number of lymph node dissections was higher (34.74 ± 12.44 vs. 29.83 ± 12.22, p

Abstract This study proposes a multi‐scale transformation method based on morphological reconstruction and membership filtering, termed as MMFuse, to fuse infrared and visible images. This method employs a fuzzy c‐means clustering algorithm for multi‐scale decomposition by introducing morphological reconstruction operations and modifying member partitions to ensure noise resistance and image detail preservation. In addition, the MMFuse utilises the image attributes of layers as their fusion weights at each scale for adaptive feature fusion, which reduces the difficulty of manual adjustment of fusion weights. Moreover, on the basis of histogram enhancement, a visible image enhancement method is proposed, which can help exploit additional texture details in low‐light visible images and transfer these details to the fused image. The experiments performed on public datasets indicates that the MMFuse can generate sharp and clean fused images with high robustness and good fusion results for the images corrupted by different noises. Moreover, the results of this method appear as high‐quality visible images with clear highlighted infrared targets.

Abstract Metallic zinc electrode with a high theoretical capacity of 820 mAh g−1 is highly considered as a promising candidate for next‐generation rechargeable batteries. However, the unavoidable hydrogen evolution, uncontrolled dendrite growth, and severe passivation reaction badly hinder its practical implementations. Herein, a robust polymer‐alloy artificial protective layer is designed to realize dendrite‐free Zn metal anode by the integration of zincophilic SnSb nanoparticles with Nafion. In comparison to the bare Zn electrode, the Nafion‐SnSb coated Zn (NFSS@Zn) electrode exhibits lower nucleation energy barrier, more uniform electric field distribution and stronger anti‐corrosion capability, thus availably suppressing the Zn dendrite growth and interfacial side reactions. As a consequence, the NFSS@Zn electrode exhibits a long cycle life over 1500 h at 1 mA cm−2 with an ultra‐low voltage hysteresis (25 mV). Meanwhile, when paired with a MnO2 cathode, the as‐prepared full cell also demonstrates stable performance for 1000 cycles at 3 A g−1. This work provides an inspired approach to boost the performance of Zn anodes.

Abstract Melilotus officinalis is an important legume crop with forage and Chinese medicinal value. The unknown genome of M. officinalis restricted the domestication and utilization of the species and its germplasm resource diversity. A chromosome‐scale assembly of the M. officinalis genome was assembled and analysed. The 976.27 Mb of genome was divided into eight chromosomes covering 99.16% of the whole genome. A total of 50022 genes were predicted in the genome. M. officinalis and Melilotus albus shared a common ancestor 0.5–5.65 million years ago (MYA). A genome‐wide doubling event occurred 68.93 MYA according to the synonymous nucleotide‐substitution values. A total of 552102 tandem repeats were predicted, and 46004 SSR primers of TRs with 10 or more base pairs were developed and designed. The elucidation of the M. officinalis genome provides a compelling model system for studying the genetic, evolutionary and biosynthesis of this legume.

Abstract Flexible carbon fiber cloth (CFC) is an important scaffold and/or current collector for active materials in the development of flexible self‐supportive electrode materials (SSEMs), especially in lithium‐ion batteries. However, during the intercalation of Li ions into the matrix of CFC (below 0.5 V vs. Li/Li+), the incompatibility in the capacity of the CFC, when used directly as an anode material or as a current collector for active materials, leads to difficulty in the estimation of its actual contribution. To address this issue, we prepared Ni5P4 nanosheets on CFC (denoted CFC@Ni5P4) and investigated the contribution of CFC in the CFC@Ni5P4 by comparing to the powder Ni5P4 nanosheets traditionally coated on a copper foil (CuF) (denoted P‐Ni5P4). At a current density of 0.4 mA cm−2, the as‐prepared CFC@Ni5P4 showed an areal capacity of 7.38 mAh cm−2, which is significantly higher than that of the P‐Ni5P4 electrode. More importantly, theoretical studies revealed that the CFC has a high Li adsorption energy that contributes to the low Li‐ion diffusion energy barrier of the Ni5P4 due to the strong interaction between the CFC and Ni5P4, leading to the superior Li‐ion storage performance of the CFC@Ni5P4 over the pristine Ni5P4 sample. This present work unveils the underlying mechanism leading to the achievement of high performance in SSEMs.

Objective This study aimed to observe the analgesic effect of the cocktail formulation with diprospan during total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods From September 2018 to April 2019, 120 patients undergoing primary unilateral THA were included in this prospective, randomized, observer‐blinded study. Patients were randomized into three groups, according to the different local infiltration analgesia (LIA) strategies: LIA with ropivacaine (the ropivacaine group, n = 40), LIA with a new cocktail containing ropivacaine, diprospan, and morphine (the cocktail group, n = 40), and the control group (n = 40). The primary outcomes included postoperative pain scores. The resting visual analogue scale (VAS) scores were measured at 2, 6, and 12 h after the surgery (a.m. and p.m.) on postoperative day (POD) 1, POD2, and the day of discharge. Movement VAS scores were assessed at 6 h, 12 h after the operation (a.m. and p.m.) on POD1, POD2, and the day of discharge. The secondary outcomes included opioid consumption, postoperative hospital stay, range of motion of the hip at discharge, patient satisfaction, and the results of the follow‐up. Results After the screening, 120 patients were randomized into three groups (40 patients in each group). All of the patients completed the trial. Abstract Background C4 plants have increased substantially during the past several decades in the grasslands of the Mongolian Plateau due to regional warming. Here, we explore how the patterns of abundances of C4 annuals and C4 perennials change over space and time. Methods A total of 280 sites with C4 plants were surveyed in four types of grasslands in 9 years. The relative biomasses of C4 plants (PC4), C4 annuals (PA4), and C4 perennials (PP4) were calculated. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the drivers of changes in PA4 and PP4. Results At the regional scale, PA4 on average was 11% (±19%, SD) and PP4 was 13% (±19%, SD). Spatially, C4 annuals dominated the C4 communities within an east–west belt region along 44° N and tended to spread toward northern latitudes (about 0.5°) and higher altitudes in the east mountainous areas. The abundance of C4 annuals decreased, while that of C4 perennials increased. The patterns of C4 annuals and C4 perennials were mainly controlled by temperature, growing season precipitation, and dynamics between the two life forms. Conclusions C4 annuals exhibited competitive advantages in normal and wet years, while C4 perennials had competitive advantages in dry years. Grazing as a main human disturbance increased C4 annuals, but had no significant effect on C4 perennials.

Abstract For a “Carbon Neutrality” society, electrochemical energy storage and conversion (EESC) devices are urgently needed to facilitate the smooth utilization of renewable and sustainable energy where the electrode materials and catalysts play a decisive role. However, the efficiency of the current trial‐and‐error research paradigm largely lags behind the imminent demands of EESC requiring increasingly improved performance. The emerged machine learning (ML), a subfield of artificial intelligence, is capable of evaluating and analyzing big data for hidden rules. In this regard, the relationships between the structure and performance of the key materials can be more efficiently revealed, which fundamentally revolutionizes the material research manner of the current EESC devices. In this review, the typical ML algorithms utilized in EESC development are first introduced. Then, focused attention has been paid to multiple aspects of applying ML to reshape the materials research for EESC. In addition to highlighting the emerging prospect, the challenges which are still hindering the further development of this emerging field are also discussed.

Abstract Defect engineering provides a highly potential way to yield exceptional catalytic performance. Herein, we first report the selenium (Se) vacancies‐decorated ultrafine platinum–nickel (PtNi‐Sev) nanowires, as a bifunctional catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and methanol oxidation reaction (MOR). The optimized PtNi‐Sev exhibits obvious enhancement for HER and MOR compared to PtNi nanowires. It displays merely an overpotential of 18.8 mV for alkaline HER and the outstanding MOR performance (3.51 A/mgPt). When applying in one symmetric overall water splitting electrolyzer coupling with HER and MOR, an ultralow working voltage of 0.637 V with 100% Faraday efficiency for hydrogen production was achieved at the current density of 10 mA/cm2. Further investigations reveal that the weakened hydrogen binding energy, strong OH binding as well as relative weak CO binding are responsible for the improved HER and MOR activities.

In the marine engineering industry, turbocharged diesel engines are often used to generate electricity, and hot oil can be extracted after generating electricity. However, marine diesel engine heat recovery can be distinguished from gas heat recovery for turbocharged and nonturbocharged diesel engine systems. The ideal air model Brayton cycle is used to evaluate the feasibility of turbocharged/nonturbocharged cogeneration retrofits in turbocharged diesel engine systems, and the paper is designed to evaluate the effect of pressure and temperature and cooling ratio of exergy efficiency. The results show that the performance of turbocharged and nonturbocharged work increases with increasing pressure ratio until it reaches a maximum value and decreases with increasing pressure ratio at a constant temperature. If an electric generator is selected first, the heat recovery after the turbocharger can be used to improve the contract for heating and electricity needs. While the exergy efficiency is selected priorly, cogeneration retrofit for heating and electricity demands can be used for heat recovery without the turbocharger system.

Objective To assess if the educational level of patients in Southwestern China will affect the functional recovery after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods This retrospective study included a total of 334 patients (48 males, 286 females, with an average age of 68 years, range from 51 to 84 years) who had undergone primary unilateral TKA from March 2017 to April 2018. Patients were screened for enrollment and classified into four groups (illiterate group, the primary school group, high school group, and university group) according to their educational attainment. All patients were monitored for at least 2 years after TKA. The primary outcome was determined using the Hospital for Special Surgery knee (HSS) score at the time of follow‐up. The secondary outcomes were determined using the 12‐Item Short Form Health Survey (SF‐12) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores, the satisfaction level, and complications of the surgery. Results Three hundred and thirty‐four patients were divided into four groups based on their highest educational level: 83 patients in the illiteracy group, 84 in the primary school group, 91 in the high school group, and 76 in the university group. They were followed up for at least 2 years. For the primary outcome, patients with high school and university education had noteworthy better HSS scores on the surgical‐side knee than those in the primary school and illiterate groups (illiteracy group 86.71 ± 5.94 vs primary school group 85.36 ± 5.88 vs high school group 89.48 ± 3.66 vs university group 88.95 ± 3.55; P

Objective The aim of the present study was to evaluate the 10‐year outcomes of cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA) in adult patients with the late sequelae of septic arthritis of the hip. Methods We followed 166 consecutive patients (168 hips) who underwent cementless THA between March 2001 and December 2011. There were 79 men and 87 women, with a mean age of 50.4 years (range 21–76 years) at the time of index THA, all of whom had hip osteoarthritis secondary to hip pyogenic infection. The average duration of follow up was 10.6 years (range 6.9–17.2 years). Preoperative and postoperative clinical ratings were evaluated, including the hip dysfunction and osteoarthritis outcome score (HOOS), the Harris hip score (HHS), range of motion, a 100‐point visual analog scale for hip pain, and the severity of limp and limb length discrepancy (LLD). The anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of the hip and full‐length view of the lower extremities were obtained to assess the position of the components, radiolucent lines, osteolysis, loosening of components, and heterotopic ossification. The intraoperative and postoperative complications were also recorded. Results The mean HSS and hip pain score were 44.2 points (range 29–66 points) and 42.5 points (range 32–64 points), respectively, before the index surgery and significantly improved to 88.1 points (range 78–96 points) and 15.1 points (range 10–26 points), respectively, at final follow‐up examination. The HOOS and range of motion also improved significantly. The mean limb length discrepancy was reduced from 2.6 to 0.8 cm. The limp at last follow‐up examination was moderate in 3 cases because of hip osteoarthritis in the other limb, slight in 26, and absent in 137. A radiolucent line was observed in 12 hips (7.1%) around the acetabular or femoral components. A progressive radiolucent line around the undersized femoral stem in all zones was seen in 1 hip, resulting in aseptic loosening and breakage of the femoral component. There were 8 cases of intraoperative fracture, 7 cases of dislocation, and 7 cases of transient nerve palsy. Recurrence of infection occurred in 2 hips. Revision surgery was conducted in 2 hips because of isolated loosening of the acetabular cup and the femoral stem, respectively. Kaplan–Meier survival was 97% at 10 years, with revision for any reason with any component as an end‐point. Conclusion Improved surgical techniques and development of components with various sizes provided favorable results for cementless THA conducted for late sequelae of sepsis in these young and active patients. Although the incidence of complications was relatively high, the complications were treated successfully.

Abstract Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) have a great potential to proliferate, undergo multi‐directional differentiation, and exert immunoregulatory effects. There is already much enthusiasm for their therapeutic potentials for respiratory inflammatory diseases. Although the mechanism of MSCs‐based therapy has been well explored, only a few articles have summarized the key advances in this field. We hereby provide a review over the latest progresses made on the MSCs‐based therapies for four types of inflammatory respiratory diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and asthma, and the uncovery of their underlying mechanisms from the perspective of biological characteristics and functions. Furthermore, we have also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the MSCs‐based therapies and prospects for their optimization.

Abstract Upon evaluating the pseudocapacitance contribution (k1v) of electrode materials, the exact capacity (also termed as actual pseudocapacity, kQ) is usually ignored. However, there is a significant variation between k1v and kQ. Herein, we designed tunable in situ core‐shell electrode materials to examine the variation between the k1v and kQ. Using nickel foam (NF) as the starting material, the internal structure of NF is systematically controlled via in situ strategy to obtain the optimized nickel oxide core–shell architectures (denoted NFNTO). Despite the directly oxidized NF (denoted NFO) exhibits a higher k1v (79.1%) than the NFNTO (47.6%), the kQ of NFNTO is ≈2.3 fold larger than NFO at the highest current density of 8.0 mA cm−2. The higher kQ can be attributed to the integration of titanium that shortens the Li+ diffusion pathway, boosts the diffusion co‐efficient and improves the electronic conductivity towards achieving enhanced ionic transport.

Abstract Under certain circumstances, chaos will occur in the super‐regenerative receiver. The gain of the receiver reaches the maximum and the receiver is immune to the external noise in this case. The concept of super‐regenerative chaotic oscillator is proposed, and its potential capability of detection for the weak signal is studied for the first time. The simulation results show that, under the same input SNR, the signal sensitivity of the super‐regenerative chaotic oscillator is up to 40dB higher than that of the ordinary super‐regenerative oscillator, which means that it has stronger noise suppression and more sensitive response to the signal submerged in the noise. It shows its potential application value for the weak signal detection.

Abstract Background Even though immunotherapy has been an effective treatment for solid tumors, its efficacy in osteosarcoma remains sub‐optimal. It is therefore imperative to understand the complex tumor microenvironment (TME) of osteosarcoma to facilitate the development of immunotherapies against this cancer. Methods The mRNA expression profiles of osteosarcoma tissues were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Next, the ssGSEA, MCP‐counter, CIBERSORT, and Xcell algorithm analyses were performed to characterize the tumor microenvironment of osteosarcoma tissues. The tumor tissues were divided into inflammatory and non‐inflammatory. A comprehensive assessment of immune cell infiltration in osteosarcoma tissues was then performed. Sub‐group analysis of immune cell infiltration between men and women patients with osteosarcoma was also carried out. Results The results revealed that the infiltration of immune cells including activated B cell, activated CD8 T cell, CD56dim natural killer cell, and cytotoxic lymphocytes cells, in osteosarcoma tissues was higher in male than in female patients. Based on the infiltration profile of different immune cells, the osteosarcoma tissues were grouped into four clusters. The four clusters were further divided into hot and cold tumors. The differently expressed genes (DEGs) between cold and hot tumors were mainly associated with the activation and regulation of immune response. Additionally, a neuronal pentraxin (NPTX2) expression which was upregulated in cold tumors was found to be negatively correlated with the expression of CD8a Molecule (CD8A), Granzyme B (GZMB), and Interferon Gamma (IFNG). NPTX2 decreased CCL4 secretion. Knockdown of NPTX2 in osteosarcoma cells inhibited tumor growth and increased tumor cell apoptosis. Moreover, a prognosis prediction model of osteosarcoma was constructed and validated in patients receiving immunotherapy using external data. Conclusions To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to characterize the infiltration of immune cells in osteosarcoma tissues from patients receiving immune infiltration therapy.

Abstract It is usually seen that DC flashover voltage of the water droplet on the surface of silicone rubber (SIR) composite insulator is lower than AC flashover voltage. It is necessary to study the mechanisms and influencing factors of the surface properties. In this article, experiments are performed to study the moving processes of the water droplet and the influences of its dynamic behaviours on flashover voltage under DC/AC electric field. Besides, an electrohydrodynamic coupling method is employed to establish the simulating model. Moreover, the theoretical physical model is established to reveal the mechanisms of dynamic behaviours of a droplet. It is indicated that the simulation results are in good consistency with the experimental data. The elongation behaviours of a droplet on the surface of a composite insulator can influence the homogeneity of the electric field distribution along the sample's surface. It is shown that the different dynamic behaviours and flashover performances for a single water droplet on the SIR surface are both affected by the volume of the droplet and the type of voltage applied.

Abstract Nanostructured materials afford a promising potential for many energy storage applications because of their extraordinary electrochemical properties. However, the remarkable electrochemical energy storage performance could only be harvested at a relatively low mass‐loading via the traditional electrode fabrication process, and the scale of these materials into commercial‐level mass‐loading remains a daunting challenge because the ion diffusion kinetics deteriorates rapidly along with the increased thickness of the electrodes. Very recently, three‐dimensional (3D) printing, a promising additive manufacturing technology, has been considered as an emerging method to address the aforementioned issues where the 3D printed electrodes could possess elaborately regulated architectures and rationally organized porosity. As a result, the outstanding electrochemical performance has been widely observed in energy storage devices made of 3D printed electrodes of high‐mass loading. In this review, we systemically introduce the basic working principles of various 3D printing technologies and their practical applications to manufacture high‐mass loading electrodes for energy storage devices. Challenges and perspectives in 3D printing technologies for the construction of electrodes at the current stage are also outlined, aiming to offer some useful opinions for further development for this prosperous field.

Abstract In view of the rapid development of the COVID‐19 pandemic and SARS‐CoV‐2 mutation, we characterized the emerging SARS‐CoV‐2 variants of concern (VOCs) by both bioinformatics methods and experiments. The representative genomic sequences of SARS‐CoV‐2 VOCs were first downloaded from NCBI, including the prototypic strain, Alpha (B.1.1.7) strain, Beta (B.1.351) strain, Delta (B.1.617.2), and Omicron (B1.1.529) strain. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that the D614G mutation led to formation of a protruding spike (S) in the tertiary structure of spike protein, which could be responsible for the enhanced binding to angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor. The epitope analysis further showed that the S protein antigenicity of the Omicron variant changed dramatically, which was possibly associated with its enhanced ability of immune escape. To verify the bioinformatics results, we performed experiments of pseudovirus infection and protein affinity assay. Notably, we found that the spike protein of Omicron variant showed the weakest infectivity and binding ability among all tested strains. Finally, we also proved this through virus infection experiments, and found that the cytotoxicity of Omicron seems to be not strong enough. The results in this study provide guidelines for prevention and control of COVID‐19.

Abstract This paper analyses the robust stability of a class of homogeneous systems where a relation among the high‐order term, the decay rate and the domain of attraction of the system is explicitly established. Such a new observation helps to establish several robust stability conditions for switched homogeneous systems with high‐order terms. Several domains of attraction related to asymptotical and finite‐time stability properties are also provided. The new results are further applied to supervisory control of spacecraft attitude system with high‐order uncertainties to illustrate their efficiency and applicability.

Abstract Transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) has been demonstrated to be beneficial for spinal cord injury (SCI) by modulating neuroinflammation, supporting neuronal survival and promoting angiogenesis. Besides OECs, the conditioned medium (CM) from OECs has also been proved to have therapeutic effects for SCI, indicating that the bioactive substances secreted by OECs are essential for its protective effects. Nevertheless, there is still little information regarding the underlying mechanisms. Considering that exosomes are crucial for intercellular communication and could be secreted by different types of cells, we speculated that the therapeutic potential of OECs for SCI might be partially based on their exosomes. To examine whether OECs could secret exosomes, we isolated exosomes by polyethylene glycol‐based method, and identified them by electron microscopy study, nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and western blotting. In view of phagocytic ability of microglia and its distinct roles in microenvironment regulation after SCI, we then focused the effects of OECs‐derived exosomes (OECs‐Exo) on microglial phenotypic regulation. We found that the extracted OECs‐Exo could be engulfed by microglia and partially reverse the LPS‐induced pro‐inflammatory polarization through inhibiting NF‐κB and c‐Jun signaling pathways in vitro. Furthermore, OECs‐Exo were found to inhibit the polarization of pro‐inflammatory macrophages/microglia while increased the numbers of anti‐inflammatory cells after SCI. Considering that the neuronal injury is closely related to the activation state of macrophages/microglia, co‐culture of microglia and neurons were performed. Neuronal death induced by LPS‐treated microglia could be significantly alleviated when microglia treated by LPS plus OECs‐Exo in vitro. After SCI, NeuN‐immunostaining and axonal tract‐tracing were performed to assess neuronal survival and axon preservation. Our data showed that the OECs‐Exo promoted the neuronal survival and axon preservation, and facilitated functional recovery after SCI. Our findings provide a promising therapeutic strategy for SCI based on exosome‐immunomodulation.

Abstract Many studies reported biotic change along a continental warming gradient. However, the temporal and spatial change of tree diversity and their sensitivity to climate warming might differ from region to region. Understanding of the variation among studies with regard to the magnitude of such biotic changes is minimal, especially in montane ecosystems. Our aim is to better understand changes in spatial heterogeneity and temporal dynamics of mountain tree communities under climate warming over the past four decades. In 2017, we resurveyed and recorded all tree species from 107 long‐term monitoring plots that were first studied between 1974 and 1976. These plots were located in montane forests in the Giant Panda National Park (GPNP), China. Our results showed that spatial differences were found in tree species diversity changes response to mean annual temperature change over the past four decades. Tree species richness increased significantly under climate warming in Minshan (MS) and Xiaoxiangling (XXL) with higher warming rate than Qionglai (QLS) and Liangshan (LS). The trees species diversity in MS and XXL were more sensitive to climatic warming. MS and XXL should receive priority protection in the next conservation plan of the GPNP. The GPNP should avoid taking a “one‐size‐fits‐all” approach for diversity conservation due to spatial heterogeneity in plant community dynamics.

Osteoporosis and osteoarthritis are orthopedic disorders that affect millions of elderly people worldwide; stimulation of bone formation is a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of these conditions. As the only bone‐forming cells, osteoblasts play a key role in bone reconstruction. The microRNA miR‐17‐3p is downregulated during osteogenic differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, but its precise role in this process is unknown. Here, we investigated the role of miR‐17‐3p in osteoblast differentiation. An in vitro model of osteogenesis was established by treating MC3T3‐E1 murine preosteoblast cells with bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2). The expression of miR‐17‐3p in BMP2‐induced MC3T3‐E1 cells was detected by reverse transcription‐quantitative PCR, and its effects on cells transfected with miR‐17‐3p mimic or inhibitor were evaluated by Alizarin Red staining, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity assay, and by detection of osteoblast markers including the ALP, collagen type I α1 chain, and osteopontin genes. Bioinformatics analysis was carried out to identify putative target genes of miR‐17‐3p, and the luciferase reporter assay was used for functional validation. Rescue experiments were performed to determine whether SRY‐box transcription factor 6 (Sox6) plays a role in the regulation of osteoblast differentiation by miR‐17‐3p. We report that miR‐17‐3p was downregulated upon BMP2‐induced osteoblast differentiation in MC3T3‐E1 cells, and this was accompanied by decreased differentiation and mineralization, ALP activity, and expression of osteogenesis‐related genes. Sox6 was confirmed to be a target gene of miR‐17‐3p in osteoblasts, and the inhibitory effect of miR‐17‐3p on osteoblast differentiation was observed to occur via Sox6. These results suggest the existence of a novel mechanism underlying miRNA‐mediated regulation of osteogenesis, which has potential implications for the treatment of orthopedic disorders.

Aim. To identify novel mutations in keratoconus (KC) susceptibility genes in the Chinese Han population. Methods. A total of fifty-two patients with primary KC were recruited. Blood samples were collected, and genomic DNA was isolated from peripheral blood leukocytes. The entire coding region, intron-exon junctions, and promoter regions of sixteen known KC susceptibility genes were screened with next-generation sequencing technology. All identified variants were further confirmed using the Sanger sequencing technology. The Sorting Intolerant from Tolerant (SIFT), MutationTaster, and PolyPhen 2 programs were used to predict the effect of amino acid substitution on protein. Results. After removing twelve known SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) and three variants predicted to be harmless, nine novel mutations were identified in eight of the fifty-two patients, including c.455C > T:p.P152L in FNDC3B; c.3636_3637del:p.R1212fs in COL4A4; c.5015G > T:p.R1672L, c.3798dupA:p.P1267fs, and c.28G > A:p.A10T in MPDZ; c.1940C > T:p.P647L in DOCK9; c.127_128insGGC:p.Q43delinsRQ in POLG; c.3019G > A:p.V1007I in IPO5; and c.624 + 7− > A in TGFBI. All nine mutations in the patients with KC were heterozygote. Conclusion. This study enlarged the gene profile of KC and should be further confirmed by well-powered, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of Han Chinese patients.

Variations in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene are related to several inflammatory disorders. However, the potential links between such alternations and the risk of developing late fracture-related infection (FRI) remain unclear. This study investigated associations between genetic variations in the VDR and susceptibility to late FRI in the Chinese Han population. Between January 2016 and December 2019, 336 patients with late FRI and 368 healthy controls were genotyped six VDR genetic variations, including ApaI (rs7975232), BsmI (rs1544410), FokI (rs2228570), TaqI (rs731236), GATA (rs4516035), and Cdx-2 (rs11568820). Significant associations were observed between rs7975232 and FRI susceptibility in the recessive (P=0.019, OR=0.530, 95% CI 0.310–0.906) model. Patients with AA genotype had a relatively higher level of serological vitamin D (20.6 vs. 20.3 vs. 17.9 ng/ml) (P=0.021) than those of AC and CC genotypes. Although no statistical differences were observed, potential correlations may exist between rs1544410 (dominant model: P=0.079, OR=0.634), rs2228570 (dominant model: P=0.055, OR=0.699), and rs4516035 (dominant model: P=0.065, OR=1.768) and the risk of FRI development. In the Chinese cohort, ApaI was associated with a decreased risk of developing FRI, and patients with the AA genotype had a higher vitamin D level. Further studies are required to assess the role of genetic variations in BsmI, FokI, and GATA in the pathogenesis of late FRI.

Quasi-zero-stiffness (QZS) structures offer substantial practical benefits for facilitating the essential support and isolation of vibrational source loads aboard modern marine vessels. In order to design a compact QZS system of high bearing capacity, the article proposes a low stiffness air spring (LSAS) vibration-isolation mounting system composed of both vertical and lateral air springs. The vertical air springs support the load and isolate vibrations in the vertical direction, while the lateral air springs support the load and isolate transversal vibrations. Theoretical analyses based on a simple two-dimensional, single degree of freedom model demonstrate that the proposed novel LSAS design decreases the degree of stiffness in the support structure that would otherwise be induced by introducing lateral air springs and accordingly increases the vibration isolation effect. Moreover, optimization of the air spring parameters enables the lateral air springs to provide negative stiffness and thereby realize QZS characteristics. Experimental testing based on prototypes of a standard air spring mounting system and the proposed LSAS mounting system demonstrates that the stiffness of the proposed system is about 1/5 that of the standard system. Accordingly, the proposed structure design successfully alleviates the undesirable influence of lateral air springs on the stiffness of the mounting system.

A high-performance liquid chromatographic method coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for the analysis of blonanserin and its active metabolite, N-desethyl blonanserin, in rat plasma has been developed and validated. The biological samples were treated by simple direct protein precipitation before separation on an Agilent Eclipse Plus C18 column (4.6 × 100 mm, 3.5 μm) with a column temperature of 35°C at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min. The mobile phase A is a mixture of methanol and water (75 : 25, v/v, 5 mM ammonium formate), and the mobile phase B is acetonitrile containing 0.1% formic acid. The ratio of mobile phase A to mobile phase B is 15 : 85. Electrospray ionization (ESI) multiple reaction monitoring modes are used for detection, which are m/z 368.10 ⟶ 296.90 (blonanserin), m/z 340.15 ⟶ 297.05(N-desethyl blonanserin), and m/z 348.15⟶ 302.05 (N-desethyl blonanserin-d8). The linear response range was 0.1–100.0 ng/mL for blonanserin and N-desethyl blonanserin. The lower limit of quantification (LLOQ), calibration curves, carryover, and matrix effects were sufficiently accurate and precise according to the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) guidelines for bioanalytical method validation. This analytical method was successfully applied in a blonanserin-poloxamer thermosensitive gel pharmacokinetic study in rats.
