Objective: Eating disorders (EDs) often emerge in late adolescence. Schools are ideal settings for prevention programs; however, cost and time limit implementation. Microinterventions may overcome these challenges. This study adapted two microinterventions (cognitive dissonance, self-compassion) and assessed feasibility and acceptability among mid-adolescents to provide proof-of-concept for further investigation., Method: Feedback from staff (n = 5) and student (n = 15) focus groups contributed iteratively to the adaptation of intervention materials. Students in Grade 10 and 11 (N = 101, M age  = 15.80, SD = 0.68) were then randomly allocated by class to a 20-min video-based cognitive-dissonance or self-compassion intervention, accessed on their school devices. ED risk and protective factors were assessed at baseline, immediate postintervention (state outcomes), and 1-week follow-up (trait outcomes). Acceptability items were included at both timepoints., Results: Implementation was deemed feasible. Girls generally reported greater acceptability than boys. Among girls, the self-compassion intervention demonstrated greater acceptability. Among boys, some aspects of acceptability (e.g., lesson endorsement, utilization of techniques) were rated higher in the cognitive dissonance group whereas other aspects (e.g., understanding, interest) were greater in the self-compassion group. All groups exhibited favorable changes in most state outcomes, however trait outcome change was varied., Discussion: Microinterventions provide a feasible way of implementing prevention strategies in a time-poor educational context. Future large-scale evaluation is warranted to determine efficacy, following modifications based on current findings., Public Significance: This study shows promising feasibility and acceptability of two brief, self-guided video-based lessons (microinterventions) for adolescents in school classrooms, that use psychological techniques to target appearance pressures as a key risk factor for eating disorders. Such interventions are easier to implement in school settings than longer, facilitator-led interventions, to encourage greater uptake and ongoing use. Introduction: There have been substantial alterations in the structure of postpartum care over the last several decades. Our aim was to investigate the perceived quality of, and satisfaction with, postpartum care among caregivers and care receivers in the maternity ward of a community hospital in Norway with about 2600 births per year., Methods: We conducted a cohort study of women giving birth and the caregiving staff in the maternity ward during a 7-month period. A questionnaire, with a Cronbach α coefficient above 0.8, was filled in anonymously, both by the staff in the ward and by the women. The questionnaire explored the respondents' evaluations of the information offered by the staff; the teaching of skills in child care and establishment of breastfeeding; assistance with practical tasks like making beds, serving meals, and keeping order in the room; visiting rules; level of noise in the ward; whether the pediatric service was adequate; length of the stay; and to what extent caregivers were able to respond to the individual needs of the mothers. Finally, the questionnaire explored the degree of kindliness communicated by the staff. Five extra questions in the women's questionnaire explored their personal experiences in the ward., Results: The care receivers' evaluations of the maternity ward did not differ significantly from that of the caregivers in questions related to overall care and service. However, the mothers rated the importance of assistance with child care during the night significantly higher than did the staff. Responses to questions addressing noise in the ward demonstrated a higher tolerance among the mothers compared with the staff. In addition, mothers tended (but not a statistically significant result) to rate the quality of the teaching of child-care skills lower, compared with the staff's ratings., Discussion: By exploring both the caregivers' and care receivers' evaluations and expectations of the actual services in the maternity ward, areas for enhancement of the quality of the ward and its services can be detected and carried out. The present study revealed 2 areas needing further focus: assistance with child care during the night and teaching of child-care skills during the stay. We believe that investigations that collect data from both caregivers and care receivers, by using adapted and validated questionnaires to gather information on quality and satisfaction with the maternity ward, are mandatory for improvement and continuous adaptation of health services., (© 2011 by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.)

Recent research on chronic painful Achilles tendons in humans using ultrasonography and immunohistochemistry, has demonstrated an association between neurovascular ingrowth and tendon pain. In horses, chronic debilitating tendon conditions are well-known to be very difficult to treat, and the background to impaired function and pain is not scientifically clarified. In a collaborative research project between the Sports Medicine Unit in Umeå and Strömsholm Equine Hospital, grey-scale ultrasonography (US) and colour Doppler (CD) examination were performed in ten horses with chronic tendon injuries (>3 months) and a control group of six healthy and asymptomatic horses. In all symptomatic tendons, but not in any of the tendons in the control group, neovessels were seen in the area with structural tendon changes. The neovessels found in the horse tendons looked similar to what has recently been presented in human Achilles tendons. These findings motivate evaluation of the same treatment, a sclerosing injection that was demonstrated recently to give promising results in the treatment of chronic Achilles tendon injuries (tendinosis) in humans.
