Abstract Physical unclonable functions (PUFs) have emerged as a promising encryption technology, utilizing intrinsic physical identifiers that offer enhanced security and tamper resistance. Multi‐level PUFs boost system complexity, thereby improving system reliability and fault tolerance. However, crosstalk‐free multi‐level PUFs remain a persistent challenge. In this study, a hierarchical PUF system that harnesses the spontaneous phase separation of silk fibroin /PVA blend and the random distribution of silicon‐vacancy diamonds within the blend is presented. The thermodynamic instability of phase separation and inherent unpredictability of diamond dispersion gives rise to intricate random patterns at two distinct scales, enabling time‐efficient hierarchical authentication for cryptographic keys. These patterns are complementary yet independent, inherently resistant to replication and damage thus affording robust security and reliability to the proposed system. Furthermore, customized authentication algorithms are constructed: visual PUFs authentication utilizes neural network combined structural similarity index measure, while spectral PUFs authentication employs Hamming distance and cross‐correlation bit operation. This hierarchical PUF system attains a high recognition rate without interscale crosstalk. Additionally, the coding capacity is exponentially enhanced using M‐ary encoding to reinforce multi‐level encryption. Hierarchical PUFs hold significant potential for immediate application, offering unprecedented data protection and cryptographic key authentication capabilities.

Abstract Infectious oral diseases are longstanding global public health concerns. However, traditional medical approaches to address these diseases are costly, traumatic, and prone to relapse. Here, we propose a foodborne prophylactic strategy using aloin to safeguard dental collagen. The effect of aloin on the stability of dental collagen was evaluated by treating dentin with a solution containing aloin (0.1 mg/mL) for 2 min. This concentration is comparable to the natural aloin content of edible aloe. Furthermore, we investigated the mechanisms underlying the interactions between aloin and dentin collagen. Our findings, obtained through fluorescence spectroscopy, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Gaussian peak fitting, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and X‐ray diffraction, revealed that aloin interacts with dental collagen through noncovalent bonding, specifically hydrogen bonding in situ. This interaction leads to a reduction in the distance between molecules and an increase in the proportion of stable α‐helical chains in the dental collagen. The ultimate tensile strength and thermogravimetric analysis demonstrated that dental collagen treated with aloin exhibited improved mechanical strength and thermostability. Additionally, the release of hydroxyproline, cross‐linked carboxy‐terminal telopeptide of type I collagen, and C‐terminal cross‐linked telopeptide of type I collagen, along with weight loss, indicated an enhancement in the enzymatic stability of dental collagen. These findings suggest that aloin administration could be a daily, nondestructive, and cost‐effective strategy for managing infectious oral diseases.

Abstract Objective Defects in RARS2 cause cerebellopontine hypoplasia type 6 (pontocerebellar hypoplasia type 6, PCH6, OMIM: #611523), a rare autosomal recessive inherited mitochondrial disease. Here, we report two male patients and their respective family histories. Methods We describe the clinical presentation and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of these patients. Whole‐exome sequencing was used to identify the genetic mutations. Results One patient showed hypoglycemia, high lactic acid levels (fluctuating from 6.7 to 14.1 mmol/L), and frequent seizures after birth, with progressive atrophy of the cerebrum, cerebellum, and pons. The other patient presented with early infantile developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (EIDEEs) with an initial developmental delay followed by infantile epileptic spasm syndrome (IESS) at 5 months old, with no imaging changes. Whole‐exome sequencing identified compound heterozygous RARS2 variants c.25A>G (p.I9V) with c.1261C>T (p.Q421*) and c.1A>G (p.M1V) with c.122A>G (p.D41G) in these two patients. Of these loci, c.1261C>T and c.122A>G have not been previously reported. Significance Our findings have expanded the RARS2 gene variant spectrum and present EIDEEs and IESS as phenotypes which deepened the association between PCH6 and RARS2. Plain Language Summary Defects in RARS2 cause cerebellopontine hypoplasia type 6, a rare autosomal recessive inherited mitochondrial disease. Abstract Advanced sustainable biomedical materials are urgently needed for clinical applications; however, developing biomedical materials with exceptional mechanical and bactericidal properties as well as removable functionalities to reduce unintended secondary injury remains a challenge. Here, we report a biomass‐derived composite consisting of water‐soluble fish gelatin (FG) and antibacterial ZnO@silk fibroin (ZSF) microspheres for potential application as the wound dressing. The ZSF microspheres are embedded in a FG matrix to realize the stretchable, antibacterial, and removable ZSF/FG composites. By introducing glycerin as the plasticizer, ZSF/FG composites deliver a tensile strength of 4.5 MPa and stretchability of 550%. Acting as both the germicide and hydrophile components, ZSF microspheres endow the composites with excellent antibacterial capacity and water solubility. To prevent secondary injury, the ZSF/FG composites can be easily removed from the wounds by simply exposing them to excess water. Additionally, the ZSF/FG composites exhibit favorable biocompatibility and sustain high cell viability of over 100%. The full‐thickness skin wound model on infected mice demonstrated an efficient rate of wound closure and a reduced inflammatory response. The ZSF/FG composite shows promise to hasten the healing of infected wounds and is expected a promising candidate as wound dressing for clinical therapy.

Abstract Objective As a potentially life‐threatening condition, myasthenia gravis (MG) has limited epidemiological studies on mortality. We aim to provide demographic distribution, geographical variation, and temporal trend of MG‐related mortality in China. Methods The national population‐based analysis was conducted based on records derived from the National Mortality Surveillance System of China. All deaths related to MG were identified from 2013 to 2020, and MG‐related mortality was evaluated by sex, age, location, and year. Results A total of 4224 deaths were related to MG during 2013–2020, and the median age at death of MG was 59.45 years, significantly lower than that in the general population (75.47 years, P

Abstract Background Many studies have shown that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are abnormally expressed in various tumor tissues and served as a key regulator in the occurrence and development of cancer. However, in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the molecular mechanism of circRNAs in body fluids remains to be further explored. Methods The expression levels of genes and proteins were detected by quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction (qRT‐PCR) and western blotting, respectively. Cell counting Kit‐8 (CCK‐8), 5‐Ethynyl‐2'‐deoxyuridine (EdU), wound healing assay, Transwell assays, flow cytometry, and tumor formation models in nude mice were conducted to investigate the effects of circFAM114A2 on HCC cells both in vitro and in vivo. RNA antisense purification (RAP), dual luciferase reporter assays and rescue assays were carried out to verify the interaction between circFAM114A2, miR‐630 and HHIP. Results CircFAM114A2 was significantly downregulated in HCC tissues and was associated with microvascular invasion and lymph node metastasis of HCC patients. We also observed that circFAM114A2 was lowly expressed in HCC plasma, which may serve as an effective biomarker to screen HCC patients from healthy controls (area under curve (AUC)=0.922). In vitro, circFAM114A2 overexpression significantly blunted HCC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and promoted apoptosis, whereas circFAM114A2 silencing posed opposite effects. In vivo, circFAM114A2 overexpression inhibited the growth of HCC cells. Mechanistically, circFAM114A2 could increase the expression of the tumor suppressor HHIP via acting as a sponge for miR‐630. Conclusions CircFAM114A2 exerts a tumor suppressor role in HCC through miR‐630/HHIP axis, and may be served as a potential diagnostic and therapeutic biomarker for HCC patients.

Abstract Periodontium supports teeth in a mechanically stimulated tissue environment, where heterogenous stem/progenitor populations contribute to periodontal homeostasis. In this study, Leptin receptor+ (Lepr+) cells are identified as a distinct periodontal ligament stem cell (PDLSC) population by single‐cell RNA sequencing and lineage tracing. These Lepr+ PDLSCs are located in the peri‐vascular niche, possessing multilineage potential and contributing to tissue repair in response to injury. Ablation of Lepr+ PDLSCs disrupts periodontal homeostasis. Hyper‐loading and unloading of occlusal forces modulate Lepr+ PDLSCs activation. Piezo1 is demonstrated that mediates the mechanosensing of Lepr+ PDLSCs by conditional Piezo1‐deficient mice. Meanwhile, Yoda1, a selective activator of Piezo1, significantly accelerates periodontal tissue growth via the induction of Lepr+ cells. In summary, Lepr marks a unique multipotent PDLSC population in vivo, to contribute toward periodontal homeostasis via Piezo1‐mediated mechanosensing.

Abstract Objective Arytenoid dislocation (AD) after general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation (EI) is an iatrogenic injury that impairs patient function and requires reduction. We aimed to investigate the risk factors of AD following EI. Methods This retrospective case‐control study involved surgical adults who received EI for general anesthesia at a single institution from June 2010 to June 2020. Cases included all the patients who had AD. We used a ratio of 1:5 to identify patients in the propensity‐matched control group. Results Multivariate analysis of 49 cases with AD and 245 controls without AD demonstrated that the use of a nasogastric (NG) tube (odds ratio [OR], 23.9; 95% confidence interval [CI], 6.8–84.1), undergoing abdominal surgery (OR, 3.7; 95% CI, 1.2–11.9), and an operative time longer than 3 h (OR, 5.2; 95% CI, 2.1–12.9) were risk factors for AD. We did not find significant independent associations between AD and 40 years or older age, gender, body mass index, whether a laryngeal mask airway was used, endotracheal tube size, and EI performers' experience. Conclusion The use of an NG tube, abdominal surgery, and longer operative time were risk factors for AD. Among these, the NG tube application showed a strong association with AD. Preventive measures of informing the patients of the increased risk and providing high‐level patient monitoring can reduce the incidence of AD. Level of Evidence III

Abstract Background Treatment options for Chinese patients with locally advanced or metastatic squamous‐cell non‐small‐cell lung cancer (sqNSCLC) after failure of first‐line chemotherapy are limited. This study (ORIENT‐3) aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of sintilimab versus docetaxel as second‐line treatment in patients with locally advanced or metastatic sqNSCLC. Methods ORIENT‐3 was an open‐label, multicenter, randomized controlled phase 3 trial that recruited patients with stage IIIB/IIIC/IV sqNSCLC after failure with first‐line platinum‐based chemotherapy. Patients were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive either 200 mg of sintilimab or 75 mg/m2 of docetaxel intravenously every 3 weeks, stratified by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS) in the full analysis set (FAS). Secondary endpoints included progression‐free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), duration of response (DoR) and safety. Results Between August 25, 2017, and November 7, 2018, 290 patients were randomized. For FAS, 10 patients from the docetaxel arm were excluded. The median OS was 11.79 (n = 145; 95% confidence interval [CI], 10.28‐15.57) months with sintilimab versus 8.25 (n = 135; 95% CI, 6.47‐9.82) months with docetaxel (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.74; 95% CI, 0.56‐0.96; P = 0.025). Sintilimab treatment significantly prolonged PFS (median 4.30 vs. 2.79 months; HR: 0.52; 95% CI, 0.39‐0.68; P < 0.001) and showed higher ORR (25.50% vs. 2.20%, P < 0.001) and DCR (65.50% vs. 37.80%, P < 0.001) than the docetaxel arm. The median DoR was 12.45 (95% CI, 4.86‐25.33) months in the sintilimab arm and 4.14 (95% CI, 1.41‐7.23) months in the docetaxel arm (P = 0.045). Treatment‐related adverse events of grade ≥ 3 were reported in 26 (18.1%) patients in the sintilimab arm and 47 (36.2%) patients in the docetaxel arm. Exploratory biomarker analysis showed potential predictive values of expression levels of two transcription factors, including OVOL2 (HR: 0.35; P < 0.001) and CTCF (HR: 3.50; P < 0.001)，for sintilimab treatment. Conclusions Compared with docetaxel, sintilimab significantly improved the OS, PFS, and ORR of Chinese patients with previously treated locally advanced or metastatic sqNSCLC.

Abstract Lung metastatic breast cancer (LMBC) leads to a large number of deaths in women with breast cancer, and radiotherapy has been considered the common assay for tumour therapy except for surgery. However, radiotherapy still faces problems of low efficiency due to resistance and easily induced side effects. Here, the authors designed lipid‐decorated bismuth‐based nanoflowers (DP‐BNFs) as both a radiosensitiser and a photothermal therapy agent for LMBC treatment. The BNFs were prepared by oxidation of bismuth nitrate and subsequent reduction using sodium borohydride. The preparation parameters and formulation of DP‐BNFs were optimised via a single‐factor experiment, with the factors including reaction temperature, a molar ratio of reducing agents, and the types and amount of decorated lipid materials. The result indicated that the BNFs prepared at 170°C with the Bi/NaBH4 ratio of 1:0.7 exhibited the best yield and particle size around 160 nm. After being spray dried with lactose to prepare dry powder inhalation (DP‐BNF@Lat‐MPs), their effects on improving therapeutic efficiency of the radiotherapy and photothermal therapy combination were measured using the western blot assay to determine the tumour apoptosis. In a word, DP‐BNF@Lat‐MPs could be a novel inhalable integrated microsphere that provides a new possibility for thermoradiotherapy of LMBC.

The reach of online information transmission has expanded due to the rapid growth of social software and Internet technology, and the negative information generated during the COVID-19 outbreak can confuse the public. Therefore, a new challenge in the prevention and control of epidemics is how to supervise negative public perceptions. This study differentiates negative public opinion communication stages through practical cases and is based on the life cycle hypothesis. In order to examine the evolution and stability tactics of each game subject in each stage of the evolution of public opinion, a three-way evolution game model comprising social platform operators, official media, and opinion leaders is created on the basis of prospect theory. Finally, the advanced epidemic model is used to verify the important impact of cooperation between official media and opinion leaders on curbing the transmission of negative public opinion. It is found that the perceived value of game players on income and loss will significantly affect the trend of the tripartite game strategy, and the cooperative behavior of official media and opinion leaders can effectively promote the benign development of online public opinion.

Aim. Pirfenidone (PFD), an antifibrotic drug, has various beneficial functions such as antioxidant, antifibrotic, and anti-inflammatory effects. This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying how PFD modulates retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells involved in neovascularization and subretinal fibrosis. Methods. ARPE-19 cell lines were treated with transforming growth factor-beta 2 (TGF-β2) alone or in combination with PFD. RPE cell viability, as a consequence of PFD use, was determined by the CCK-8 assay. Cell migration was assessed by the wound closure assay and quantified by the Image J software. Protein expression of the following markers was measured by the western blot analysis: an epithelial cell marker and E-cadherin; mesenchymal cell markers, fibronectin, matrix metalloprotein-9 (MMP-9), and alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA); a fibrotic marker and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF); an angiogenesis marker and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF); NF-κB/Snail. The mRNA levels of fibronectin and α-SMA were determined by quantitative real-time PCR. VEGF was quantitatively measured by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results. The cell viability assay revealed that PFD had no significant cytotoxic effect on RPE cells at concentrations of less than 1 mg/mL. The cell scratch assay showed that TGF-β2 stimulation significantly improved the migration of RPE cells and that PFD attenuated this effect. PFD significantly inhibited the TGF-β2-induced protein expression of E-cadherin and increased the TGF-β2-induced protein expression of fibronectin, MMP-9, α-SMA, CTGF, and VEGF in ARPE-19 cells. The mRNA expression of fibronectin and α-SMA was inhibited by PFD in TGF-β2-inducedARPE-19 cells. Additionally, the increased intracellular and supernatant expression of VEGF protein was suppressed by PFD. Mechanistically, RPE cells treated with PFD + TGF-β2 exhibited a decrease in phosphorylation of the NF-κB P65 subunit and activation of Snail, compared with the RPE cells treated with TGF-β2 alone. Conclusion. PFD ameliorated TGF-β2-induced neovascularization and fibrosis by suppressing the NF-κB/Snail signaling pathway. Therefore, PFD may be a potential drug in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration.

Abstract Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness globally and is associated with retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death. Brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a potent neurotrophin that promotes neuronal survival via its receptor, tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) encoded by NTRK2. Our current understanding of the mechanism of action and therapeutic potential of the BDNF pathway is limited by the lack of knowledge of its interaction with TrkB at atomic resolution. We developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model to predict the three‐dimensional protein structures of BDNF and TrkB, as well as their interaction. The AI model was further applied to compare small‐molecule drugs that mimic BDNF–TrkB interaction, leading to the identification of 7,8‐dihydroxyflavone (DHF) as an agonist of TrkB. We verified the neuroprotective effects of DHF in an in vivo acute glaucoma model in which RGC apoptosis caused by acute elevation of intraocular pressure was prevented by the intraocular application of DHF and to a lesser extent by BDNF. Our results provide AI‐enabled prediction of ligand–receptor interactions between BDNF and TrkB at the atomic level and demonstrate the great potential for AI‐enabled drug discovery.

Abstract Materials combining efficient thermal insulation and high mechanical properties are needed in many areas of technology. Various aerogels provide a convenient design framework for thermal insulators, but they are often brittle. Furthermore, the spectrum of advanced properties is constantly expanding while requirements to the degree of control of the three‐dimensional gel‐forming network is constantly increasing. Here, we report on biomimetic aramid nanofibers aerogels with the structure replicating articular cartilage, prepared by supercritical drying of 3D networks held together by hydrogen bonds. Owing to the branching morphology of the nanofibers, the three‐dimensional nanoscale networks with extensive percolation and high interconnectivity can be obtained. The aerogels showed high porosity with an average open pore size of 21.5 nm and correspondingly low specific density of 0.0081 g/cm3. The aerogels also possess a high compressive strength of 825 kPa at a strain of 80%. Due to the unique aramid chemistry of the parent nanofibers, aramid aerogels combine low thermal conductivity of 0.026 W/m·K with high thermal stability up to 530°C, which is unusually high for polymeric and composite materials of any type, opening a broad range of applications from electronics to space travel.

Abstract A high‐speed, room‐temperature quantum cascade laser packaged module emitting at 8.14 μm is presented. The cavity length of the laser is as small as 0.5 mm, and the threshold current at 298 K is 110 mA. A matching printed circuit board is inserted into the packaged module to reduce the RC constant. As a result, the rectification response of packaged module is relatively flat upto 2 GHz and the –3 dB cut‐off frequency is increased from 0.9 to 2.2 GHz.

Detection of amplification of the MYCN gene is essential for determining optimal treatment and estimating prognosis of patients with neuroblastoma (NB). DNA FISH with neuroblastoma tissues or patient‐derived bone marrow cells is the standard clinical practice for the detection of MYCN amplification. As tumor cells may often be unavailable, we developed a method to detect MYCN amplification in the plasma of patients with neuroblastoma. Taking single‐copy NAGK DNA as reference, we used real‐time quantitative PCR (qPCR) to determine the MYCN/NAGK ratio in the plasma of 115 patients diagnosed with NB. An increased MYCN/NAGK ratio in the plasma was consistent with MYCN amplification as assessed by DNA FISH. The AUC for a MYCN/NAGK ratio equal to 6.965 was 0.943, with 86% sensitivity and 100% specificity. Beyond the threshold of 6.965, the MYCN/NAGK ratio correlated with a heavier tumor burden. Event‐free and overall survival of two years were significantly shortened in stage 4 patients with a MYCN/NAGK ratio higher than 6.965. Plasma MYCN/NAGK ratios increased in patients with progressive disease and relapse. Thus, we conclude that the determination of the plasma MYCN/NAGK ratio by qPCR is a noninvasive and reproducible method to measure MYCN amplification in patients with NB.

In this paper, we consider a two-way communication system using the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a relay (UAV-aided). This system eliminates impulse interference through an adaptive filter based on the least mean square (LMS) and uses the received signal transmitted by the UAVs to construct a parallel factor (PARAFAC) model. Based on the identifiability condition of the PARAFAC model, a pulse interference cancellation orthogonal pilot tensor (PIC-OPT) receiver without iteration is proposed. Our algorithm is also used in millimeter-wave to achieve the acquisition of channel information. Compared with the least squares method, the simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed semiblind receiver in terms of the relative mean square error and bit error rate.

As a treasure left over from Chinese traditional culture, martial arts have a long history and lasts for a long time. With the country’s promotion and support of martial arts culture, martial arts have also attracted more and more people’s attention. In order to carry forward the martial arts culture, the combination of martial arts and sports has formed a set of martial arts sports suitable for today’s students, such as martial arts aerobics. It is used as a class exercise for students, and basically, every student in the school has learned it and practiced it often. However, with the development of the times, it is difficult for today’s students to arouse students’ enthusiasm for martial arts sports for traditional martial arts sports. Artificial intelligence technology and virtual reality, as products of today’s digital age, attract the attention and use of students with their unique features. This also means that the reform of martial arts sports based on artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology is imperative in order to make more students regain their enthusiasm for martial arts sports. However, the specific impact of artificial intelligence and virtual reality on the physical and mental development of students in martial arts sports is a problem to be confirmed by research. Through in-depth research on artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology, this paper shows that artificial intelligence and virtual reality martial arts sports can increase the lung capacity of boys by about 14% and girls by 16%; the effect on physical fitness can increase the lower body strength of boys by 3% and the flexibility of girls by 30%; as for the impact on mental health, it can be concluded that the emotional and cognitive dimensions of boys and girls have increased by about 19% compared with the previous values.

Objectives. To analyze diabetes mellitus (DM) mortality and years of life lost (YLL) in different years and different subgroups at the national and regional levels in China from 2005 to 2020. Methods. We estimated mortality and YLL of DM and its subcategories for 31 provinces in China during 2005–2020 using multisource data from the National Mortality Surveillance System (NMSS). Results. The age standardized mortality rate (ASMR) of DM increased from 12.18 per 100,000 in 2005 to 13.62 per 100,000 in 2020, which was an increase of 11.86%. The ASMR of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was much higher than that of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). The ASMR of T1DM remained stable, but the rate of T2DM increased, and the increase in male patients was higher than that in their female counterparts. At the same time, the burden of premature death was highest in the group≥80 years old, and ASMR increased from 236.02 per 100,000 in 2005 to 358.86 per 100,000 in 2020. In 2005, the eastern region had the highest ASMR of DM, but the western region’s ASMR grew faster and eventually became the highest in 2020. In addition, the YLL rate in the eastern region showed a downward trend; however, in the middle and western regions the YLL rate continued to rise, with that of the western region rapidly increasing. Conclusion. A dramatically upward trend in DM deaths can be seen in China from 2005 to 2020. DM remains a chronic disease in urgent need of prevention and control, especially in the elderly and people in less-affluent provinces. We must put forward more targeted policies to effectively allocate medical resources and focus on high-risk groups to reduce the premature-mortality burden of DM and its subcategories.

Statistical network models have been used to study the competition among different products and how product attributes influence customer decisions. However, in existing research using network-based approaches, product competition has been viewed as binary (i.e., whether a relationship exists or not), while in reality, the competition strength may vary among products. In this paper, we model the strength of the product competition by employing a statistical network model, with an emphasis on how product attributes affect which products are considered together and which products are ultimately purchased by customers. We first demonstrate how customers’ considerations and choices can be aggregated as weighted networks. Then, we propose a weighted network modeling approach by extending the valued exponential random graph model to investigate the effects of product features and network structures on product competition relations. The approach that consists of model construction, interpretation, and validation is presented in a step-by-step procedure. Our findings suggest that the weighted network model outperforms commonly used binary network baselines in predicting product competition as well as market share. Also, traditionally when using binary network models to study product competitions and depending on the cutoff values chosen to binarize a network, the resulting estimated customer preferences can be inconsistent. Such inconsistency in interpreting customer preferences is a downside of binary network models but can be well addressed by the proposed weighted network model. Lastly, this paper is the first attempt to study customers’ purchase preferences (i.e., aggregated choice decisions) and car competition (i.e., customers’ co-consideration decisions) together using weighted directed networks.

ABSTRACT Importance Parents take the lead in parent–child interactions and their emotion regulation ability and empathy during parenting may be associated with children’s emotional/behavioral problems. However, the specific mechanisms underlying these associations remain unclear. Objective The present study aimed to explore the effect of parental empathy and emotional regulation on social competence and emotional/behavioral problems in school‐age children. Methods A questionnaire‐based survey was conducted with 274 parents of 8–11‐year‐old children using Achenbach’s Child Behavior Checklist, the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and the Questionnaire of Cognitive and Affective Empathy. Results Children with emotional/behavioral problems (n = 37) had relatively lower social competence than children in a matched control group (n = 37). Compared with the parents of children in the control group, parents of children with emotional/behavioral problems had significantly lower cognitive empathy scores, mainly manifested by low perspective‐taking and online simulation abilities. Mediation analysis showed that parental cognitive empathy had an indirect effect on children’s emotional/behavioral problems through children’s social competence. Interpretation Parental empathy may have a subtle influence on the social competence of school‐aged children, which further affects the severity of children’s emotional/behavioral problems.

Abstract Background To analyze the application of neurally adjusted ventilatory assist in ventilator weaning of infants. Methods A total of 25 infants (15 boys and 10 girls) who were mechanically ventilated by PICU in Hubei Maternal and Child Health Hospital were selected as the study subjects. After the improvement of the basic disease, regular spontaneous breathing, and the withdrawal of the ventilator, all the children obtained the electrical activity of the diaphragm (EAdi) signal. Then, each child was given CPAP and NAVA mode mechanical ventilation 1 h before the withdrawal of the ventilator. Each detection index was recorded 30 min after each mode of ventilation. Results Two of the 25 children were tracheotomized because of respiratory muscle weakness and could not be converted to NAVA mode without the EAdi signal. Hemodynamic indexes were not statistically different between the two groups of CPAP and NAVA. PaCO2 is not significantly different in the two modes, and both were at normal levels. Abstract Background To improve cure rates for neuroblastoma (NB), it is important and necessary to evaluate therapy response. Our investigation focuses on using plasma cell free DNA (cfDNA) as a biomarker to determine tumor burden and minimal residual disease (MRD) of NB patients during chemotherapy. Methods Total 58 NB patients were recruited from July 2016 to December 2017. Therapy regime and risk classification were based on COG standard and BCH‐NB‐2007 protocol. RECIST study was used to judge response to therapy at the end of fourth cycle of chemotherapy (CC4) and maintenance stage (MS) respectively. Serial quantifications of cfDNA, NSE, and LDH were examined at four stages, including newly diagnosed, second and CC4, and maintenance. Results During early chemotherapy, 65.5% of NB kids responded well. Consistently, cfDNA, NSE, and LDH levels were down‐regulated in NB patients with partial remission (PR) compared to those with stable disease (SD). In both training and predicting sets, the levels of cfDNA were significantly comparable between PR and SD only at CC4 stage. To predict the insufficient response to early chemotherapy, the optimal AUC value of cfDNA was 0.732 and 0.747 in training and predicting sets respectively, with a sensitivity of 63.2% and 80% specificity at 11.59 ng/ml and a sensitivity of 68.4% and 90% specificity at 10.35 ng/ml. At MS, responded NB patients were slightly increased up to 70%. This evaluation was confirmed by further decrease in cfDNA and NSE levels during intermediate chemotherapy in comparison with early stage. Conclusion The dynamic change of cfDNA was considered as a surrogate biomarker to evaluate tumor burden and MRD of NB during early and intermediate therapy periods.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among females and is associated with high mortality and morbidity rates. Several studies have demonstrated that combination treatments with natural products and tamoxifen can improve the sensitivity and cytotoxicity of oestrogen-positive breast cancer cells in response to tamoxifen. Celastrol, a triterpene from traditional Chinese medicine, has been proven to exert significant anticancer effects on various cancers. Our study is aimed at exploring the interactive antitumour effects of celastrol combined with tamoxifen and the potential underlying anticancer mechanisms in MCF-7 cells. The results from MTT assays, isobolographic analyses, and clonogenic cell survival assays revealed that a combination of celastrol and tamoxifen exerted synergistic cytotoxic effects in MCF-7 cells. The results from Annexin V/PI staining and flow cytometry analysis suggested that celastrol enhanced tamoxifen-mediated apoptosis. In addition, exposure to a combination of celastrol and tamoxifen inhibited cell proliferation by causing G1 phase cell cycle arrest. Moreover, the distribution of LC3 was monitored by immunofluorescence, and the changes in the LC3II and P62 levels detected by western blot analysis suggested that celastrol in combination with tamoxifen triggered autophagy. Furthermore, the decrease in p-Akt and p-mTOR in MCF-7 cells, along with the increase in the autophagy marker proteins LC3II and P62, suggested that the Akt/mTOR pathway might be involved in the triggering of cell autophagy by the combination treatment. However, in an MCF-7-implanted nude mouse model, it was possible to detect significantly decreased tumour volumes and tumour weights and decreased p-Akt and p-mTOR protein expression in the celastrol+tamoxifen group. Therefore, our study provides the first evidence that celastrol combined with tamoxifen exerts synergistic anticancer effects by inducing apoptosis and autophagy in MCF-7 cells. Considering the urgent need for novel therapeutic strategies in anticancer therapy, this combinatorial approach is worthy of further investigation.

Abstract Compressible solid‐state supercapacitors are emerging as promising power sources for next‐generation flexible electronics with enhanced safety and mechanical integrity. Highly elastic and compressible solid electrolytes are in great demand to achieve reversible compressibility and excellent capacitive stability of these supercapacitor devices. Here, a lithium ion‐conducting hydrogel electrolyte by integrating natural protein nanoparticles into polyacrylamide network is reported. Due to the synergistic effect of natural protein nanoparticles and polyacrylamide chains, the obtained hydrogel shows remarkable elasticity, high compressibility, and fatigue resistance properties. More significantly, the supercapacitor device based on this hydrogel electrolyte exhibits reversible compressibility under multiple cyclic compressions, working well under 80% strain for 1000 compression cycles without sacrificing its capacitive performance. This work offers a promising approach for compressible supercapacitors.

The mechanism of the formation of the hydrophobic agglomerate in fine scheelite flotation was studied using zeta potential measurement, contact angle measurement, optical microscope measurement, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) colloid probe technology. Zeta potential measurement results confirmed the adsorption of sodium oleate on scheelite, fluorite, and calcite surface and surface potential difference at different pH values of ultrapure water. Contact angle measurement results confirmed the surface of nature scheelite, fluorite, and calcite was hydrophilic, and the surface after thread by sodium oleate solution was hydrophobic. The optical microscope measurement results confirmed the agglomerates could really form in ultrapure water of pH 8 or 10 and in 1 mM sodium oleate solution of pH 10. The agglomerations were empty and not tight in ultrapure water. On the contrary, the hydrophobic agglomerations were larger and denser after treated with sodium oleate solution than that of in ultrapure water. According to the AFM experiment results, the interaction forces on hydrophilic scheelite-scheelite and scheelite-fluorite were repulsive at pH 5.6 and attractive at pH 8 or 10. However, the interaction forces on hydrophilic scheelite-calcite were attractive at pH 5.6, 8 or 10. The interaction forces on hydrophobic scheelite-scheelite, scheelite-fluorite, and scheelite-calcite were attractive strongly due to the existence of hydrophobic force. The measurement results of the interaction forces were in good agreement with the changes of zeta potential and contact angle at different conditions. The combined results could be beneficial to understand the interaction force in fine scheelite flotation.

Purpose. To identify the characteristics of the physical and mental health status of patients with pituitary adenomas, explore the postoperative reversibility of impaired health status, and assess the impact of clinical characteristics, hormone levels, anxiety, depression, and disease stigma on health status. Methods. We prospectively enrolled 147 and 138 patients with nonfunctioning and secretory pituitary adenomas, respectively. Health status was evaluated in 8 domains using the 36-item Short-Form Health Survey before and 3 months after transsphenoidal surgery. The Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, the Self-Rating Depression Scale, and the Stigma Scale for Chronic Illness were used to assess the psychological status. Results. Compared with the healthy population reference values, general physical and mental health, social functioning, and role limitations due to physical and psychological health problems were all found to be significantly impaired in the adenoma patients. Health status was worse in patients with adrenocorticotropic hormone- (ACTH-) secreting and growth hormone- (GH-) secreting adenomas than in patients with nonfunctioning adenomas. Among the patients, 11.6% had anxiety and 30.9% had depression. Higher scores for anxiety, depression, and disease stigma; older age; higher body mass index; and tumor recurrence were independent risk factors for health status impairment in at least one domain. Physical function impairment and role limitations caused by physical health problems became worse after surgery, whereas the mental component of health status remained the same. Conclusion. Health status was impaired in patients with pituitary adenomas, especially secretory adenomas. Physical function and role limitations were worse 3 months after surgery than before surgery. Mental problems, old age, obesity, and tumor recurrence reduced health status.

Abstract To evaluate plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) as a promising biomarker for neuroblastoma (NB) tumor burden. Seventy‐nine eligible patients with newly diagnosed NB were recruited from Beijing Children's Hospital between April 2016 and April 2017. Additionally, from September 2011 to June 2017, 79 patients with stable NB were evaluated with a median follow‐up time of 21 months. Approximately 2 mL of peripheral blood was drawn upon enrollment, and plasma cfDNA levels were measured via quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Total cfDNA analysis was performed using the long interspersed nuclear element 1 (LINE‐1) 79 bp fragment, and DNA integrity was calculated by the ratio of the LINE‐1 300 bp fragment to the LINE‐1 79 bp fragment. A total of 79 NB patients with a median age of 36 months comprised the group of newly diagnosed NB patients. The main primary tumor site was the retroperitoneal and adrenal region (81%). Three or more metastatic sites were found in 17.7% of patients. Stable NB patients older than 18 months comprised 98.7% of the stable NB patients. Neuron‐specific enolase (NSE), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and cfDNA levels were dramatically increased in the newly diagnosed NB patients and significantly different from those in the stable NB patients. Moreover, the concentration of cfDNA was much higher in patients with larger tumors. By analyzing the area under the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC), the areas of total cfDNA, NSE, and LDH levels were 0.953, 0.929, and 0.906, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity data clarified that the level of circulating cfDNA in plasma can be considered as a reliable biomarker for describing tumor load in NB. The plasma cfDNA concentration was as good as the levels of LDH and NSE to discriminate the tumor burden in children with NB.

Abstract As one of the trait‐based approaches, leaf economics spectrum (LES) has led to significant advances in plant ecology; however, hypothetical root economics spectrum (RES) which is even more important than the LES aboveground is still less well understood. By analogy with the LES, hypothetical RES may emerge from the coordinated functional traits of fine roots. However, lots of previous studies revealed inconsistent evidence of an RES across the woody species which dominate the terrestrial ecosystem. By discussing the sampling problems in previous studies, we realize that the main reason of failing to search the RES across woody species might be the lack of a standardized sampling protocol. Using inconsistent and inaccurate basic samples of absorptive roots in previous studies impeded the search for an RES. Mycorrhizal interactions and soil matrix constraints do have influences on fine‐root traits; however, there is no adequate evidence to support that these factors can offset or impede selection for an RES. In order to make sure the comparability across species and between studies, we come up with a concept absorptive unit of fibrous roots. The absorptive unit, which integrates all the absorptive fibrous root orders interconnected in a distal nonwoody cluster as a whole, is a parallel to a leaf. Excluding all the pioneer roots and treating absorptive unit as a basic sample can make sure the comparability across species and between studies. We believe it will offer a promising way to find consistent evidence that support the RES.

Purpose. To compare visual performance and visual quality outcomes after phacoemulsification with two different clear corneal incision (CCI) distances anterior to the limbus in senile cataract patients. Methods. Retrospective case series. Patients who had undergone phacoemulsification were divided into two groups according to the CCI distances anterior to the limbus. The CCI distances in group A range from 1 mm to 1.5 mm, while those in group B range from 0.5 mm to 1 mm. The visual acuity, refraction, surgically induced astigmatism (SIA), corneal aberrations, anterior segment parameters, and subjective vision quality were evaluated. Results. This study enrolled 54 eyes, with 27 eyes per group. Both groups had significant improvement in postoperative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) (P0.05). Conclusions. The phacoemulsification with CCI distances ranging from 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm is an effective and safe therapy to senile cataract. The CCI distance anterior to the limbus that ranges from 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm is recommended for routine phacoemulsification.

In this paper, a concise robust control law based on Backstepping for marine engine speed regulation is presented with the uniform asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system proved by Lyapunov synthesis, and the control parameters have obvious physical meaning. Furthermore, parameter determination method is given by virtue of closed-loop gain shaping algorithm. To overcome the perturbation due to load or interference change, variable universe fuzzy inference is introduced to optimize the control system on-line. Compared with the existing research literature, the design method and performance of the controller are more in line with the ocean engineering practice. The results of the simulations of the proposed controller are presented and compared.

This paper presents a method that combines Shuffled Frog Leaping Algorithm (SFLA) with Support Vector Machine (SVM) method in order to identify the fault types of rolling bearing in the gearbox. The proposed method improves the accuracy of fault diagnosis identification after processing the collected vibration signals through wavelet threshold denoising. The global optimization and high computational efficiency of SFLA are applied to the SVM model. Simulation results show that the SFLA-SVM algorithm is effective in fault diagnosis. Compared with SVM and Particle Swarm Optimization SVM (PSO-SVM) algorithms, it is demonstrated that the SFLA-SVM algorithm has the advantages of better global optimization, higher accuracy, and better reliability of diagnosis. Its accuracy is further improved through the integration of the wavelet threshold denoising method.

Considering the social properties of mobile sinks, we propose a biased trajectory dissemination of uncontrolled mobile sinks for event collection in wireless sensor networks. In biased trajectory dissemination of uncontrolled mobile sink, we first divide the whole network into clusters which can be managed by cluster heads that are elected in turn for intra-cluster event collection and inter-cluster communication. Second, for a mobile sink, we further divide the clusters it visits into biased clusters and non-biased clusters according to its staying probability. The mobile sink will send its mobility message which shows its location as it moves into a new cluster. We then construct a biased loop which is composed of all biased clusters and some non-biased clusters to disseminate a mobile sink’s mobility message only to clusters on it when the mobile sink moves into a biased cluster. We also construct query path that connects any cluster head that is not on the biased loop to a cluster head on it. An event could be transmitted to the biased loop along the query path for further forwarding to the mobile sink. Numerous simulations show the superior performance of biased trajectory dissemination of uncontrolled mobile sink compared to the representative schemes in terms of average path length, delay, and network energy consumption.

A comprehensive two-dimensional (2D) reverse phase (RP) liquid chromatography (LC) method is developed for alkaloid analysis. This offline comprehensive 2D method is developed using different pH values. With a pH value of 10.5, most alkaloids appear in the form of neutral molecules possessing high retention factors based on their polarity, while the alkaloid polarity order is changed when the pH value decreased to 3.0. The performance of pH modulated 2D LC is demonstrated with 8 alkaloid standards which resulted in orthogonal separation. The developed method is then applied to total alkaloid separation in Corydalis yanhusuo. The first-dimension separation is carried out using methanol and water containing 1.0% ammonium hydroxide and a strong base-resistant RP column, which afforded a peak capacity of 94. The second-dimension analysis is carried out with a surface positive charge column providing a peak capacity of 205 using a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and water with 0.15% formic acid. 2D analyses of total alkaloid extract from C. yanhusuo afford a total peak capacity of 9090. Sixteen compounds were tentatively identified based on their ultraviolet spectrum and MS/MS analyses. The proposed method provides an alternative approach to achieve high peak capacity for analysis of alkaloid extract.

In order to solve the problems of the existing wide-area backup protection (WABP) algorithms, the paper proposes a novel WABP algorithm based on the distribution characteristics of fault component current and improved Dempster/Shafer (D-S) evidence theory. When a fault occurs, slave substations transmit to master station the amplitudes of fault component currents of transmission lines which are the closest to fault element. Then master substation identifies suspicious faulty lines according to the distribution characteristics of fault component current. After that, the master substation will identify the actual faulty line with improved D-S evidence theory based on the action states of traditional protections and direction components of these suspicious faulty lines. The simulation examples based on IEEE 10-generator-39-bus system show that the proposed WABP algorithm has an excellent performance. The algorithm has low requirement of sampling synchronization, small wide-area communication flow, and high fault tolerance.

TiO2-nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (TiO2-CNx) nanocomposites are successfully synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method. The prepared photocatalysts were systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry analyses (TGA-DSC). The results show that the TiO2 nanoparticles with a narrow size of 7 nm are uniformly deposited on CNx. The photocatalytic activity of the nanocomposite was studied using methyl orange (MO) as a model organic pollutant. The experimental results revealed that the strong linkage between the CNx and TiO2 played a significant role in improving photocatalytic activity. However, the mechanical process for CNx and TiO2 mixtures showed lower activity than neat TiO2. Moreover, TiO2-CNx nanocomposites exhibit much higher photocatalytic activity than that of neat TiO2 and TiO2-CNTs nanocomposites. The improved photodegradation performances are attributed to the suppressed recombination of electrons and holes caused by the effective transfer of photogenerated electrons from TiO2 to CNx.

Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is widely used in the treatment of painful osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures with the injection of PMMA cement, and the controversy for PMMA damage to the osteoporotic bone tissue and to affect the fractures repairing never stops. 72 old female rabbits, each age 3.0~3.5 y, rabbits were assigned randomly to two groups of thirty-six each; PMMA cement were injected into vertebral body in rabbits via mimic PVP, sacrificed at 1 h, 24 h, 3 d, 7 d, 4 w, and 12 w. The expression VEGF and collagen type I, the tissue response, and repair reaction in the interface between PMMA and bone tissue were observed dynamically with RT-PCR and western blot technique; the osteocalcin expression were studied by immunohistochemistry. Compared with the control group, the expression of collagen I increased at 1 hour and was higher from 24 h to 3 d. From 4 weeks to 12 weeks after injection of PMMA. The expression of VEGF decreased at 1 hour and 24 hours, significantly increased at 3 days, decreased once again at 7 days, then increased significantly at 4–12 weeks. The osteocalcin expression continued to increase during 4 to 12 week. PMMA would not cause local bone permanent necrosis, and interface injury repairing cycle could be prolonged in a vertebroplasty.

Amphetamine (AMP) is an addictive CNS stimulant and has been commonly abused by adolescents and young adults, during which period brain white matter is still developing. This study was to examine the effect of a nonneurotoxic AMP on the white matter of juvenile mice. d-AMP (1.0 mg/kg) was given to young male C57BL/6 mice once a day for 21 days. The spatial working memory and locomotion of mice were measured at the end. Then, mice were sacrificed and their brains were processed for morphological analyses to examine the white matter structure and for Western blot analysis to measure three main proteins expressed in mature oligodendrocytes. AMP-treated mice displayed higher locomotion and spatial working memory impairment and showed lower levels of Nogo-A and GST-pi proteins in frontal cortex and lower MBP protein in the frontal cortex and hippocampus. They also had fewer mature oligodendrocytes and weak MBP immunofluorescent staining in the same two brain regions. But the striatum was spared. These results suggest that the late-developing white matter is vulnerable to AMP treatment which is able to increase striatal and cortical dopamine. Both the compromised white matter and increased dopamine may contribute to the observed behavioral changes in AMP-treated mice.
