BackgroundLittle data exist on real-world treatment patterns in psoriasis, especially from European settings. ObjectiveTo estimate, for topicals, systemics and biologics, the time to non-persistency, switching, augmentation and insufficient treatment result (only for biologics), as well as to estimate the time to restart, in patients treated with each treatment class in Sweden based on registry data. MethodsThis database analysis utilized data from patients with psoriasis from several Swedish administrative registers. Patients were identified through combinations of diagnoses from two regional registers and filled prescriptions for relevant treatments from the Swedish Prescribed Drug Register. Kaplan-Meier time-to-event (survival') functions were estimated with relevant treatment events as failure and the proportions of patients having experienced an event at specific time-points were derived from the failure rates. ResultsFor topicals, systemics and biologics the number of indexed treatment episodes were 25396, 2963, and 628 respectively. One year after treatment initiation, the proportion of patients who were classed as non-persistent with topicals, systemics and biologics were estimated at 88.3%, 47.9% and 43.2% respectively. Among patients who remained persistent, within 1year of treatment start the proportions of treatment episodes in which patients were augmented were estimated at 56.0% for topicals, 45.3% for systemics and 58.9% for biologics. In addition, within 1year of non-persistence, 49.0% of topicals, 60.8% of systemics and 80.2% of biologics treatment episodes were re-initiated, with 35.4-52.5% re-initiated on the non-persistent treatment depending on treatment class. In addition, among patients on biologics, 29.2% of treatment episodes had an insufficient treatment result within 1year of treatment start. ConclusionPersistency to psoriasis treatments may be sub-optimal and patients who remain persistent relatively frequently receive augmentation therapy or switch to another therapy. Therefore, current treatment options in psoriasis may be insufficient. (Less)

We will provide reports on current projects of the Systems Science Working Group: - System Pathologies - Unified Systems Science Theory - Unified Ontology of Scientific Method & Systems The purpose of this working group is to promote the advancement and understanding of Systems Science and its application to SE. Our are objectives are to: (1) Encourage advancement of Systems Science principles and concepts as they apply to Systems Engineering, (2) Promote awareness of Systems Science as a foundation for Systems Engineering, and (3) Highlight linkages between Systems Science theories and empirical practices of Systems Engineering.

Incubation of barley seedlings in a container with seedlings of which primary leaves were pruned induced in the intact seedlings a systemic resistance to the infection by Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei. The induced resistance was moreprominent in the primary leaf than in the secondary leaf. Hence, some volative substances released after pruning of barley leaves seem to be responsible for the induced resistance against the powdery mildew fungus. Zusammenfassung Einflus von fluchtigen Substanzen, die durch Abschneiden von Blattern induziert wurden, auf die systemische Resistenz von Gerste gegenuber Erysiphe graminis i. sp. hordei Unverletzte Gerstensamlinge und solche, denen man das Primarblatt wegschnitt, wurden gemeinsam in einem geschlossenen Gefas inkubiert. Bei den unbeschadigten Samlingen wurde dabei ein systemischer Resistenzmechanismus gegen Erysiphe graminis f. sp. bordei induziert. Die induzierte Resistenz war auf dem Primarblatt starker ausgepragt als auf dem Sekundarblatt. Es wird angenommen, das fluchtige, von den verletzten Samlingen synthetisierte Substanzen die induzierte Resistenz bewirkten.

High-volume foliage sprays of 18 compounds including 13 systemic fungicides in field trials at 4-week intervals did not control vascular-streak dieback (VSD) of cocoa caused by Oncobasidium theobromae in Papua New Guinea. Soil drenching with carbendazim and other systemics was also ineffective, possibly because insufficient carbendazim may have been taken up into the xylem to inhibit the fungus. Stem paints with four systemic fungicides in aqueous formulations were also ineffective, but 4-weekly stem painting of the hardened bark of young seedlings with 10 g/l propiconazole in 25% white oil caused a highly significant reduction in VSD incidence under field conditions. The treatment had no curative effect. Some phytotoxicity was observed but this was not apparent when the concentration of propiconazole was doubled and the treatment interval lengthened to 8 weeks. The ineffectiveness of systemic fungicides as soil drenches and foliage applications was probably due to failure of these compounds to accumulate at the shoot apex where infection occurs. A stable and non-toxic formulation containing surfactants was developed which may improve control by aiding bark penetration by propiconazole or related compounds.
