Introduction Citri Sarcodactylis Fructus (CSF) is widely used as a food ingredient and a traditional Chinese medicine. In China, CSF is cultivated in many places, including Sichuan, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Fujian provinces. The types and chemical contents of CSF from different origins may vary greatly due to the difference in climate and environmental conditions. Therefore, comparing the chemical composition of CSF from various places is vital. Objective To rapidly select potential characteristic compounds for differentiating CSF from different origins. Material and methods Thirty-one batches of CSF samples from different regions were analysed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography with hybrid quadrupole-orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry. Thereafter, chemometric methods, including principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares discrimination analysis (OPLS-DA), were employed to find differential metabolites among the CSF samples from various origins. Results PCA revealed 77.9% of the total variance and divided all CSF samples into three categories corresponding to their origins. OPLS-DA displayed better discrimination of CSF from different sources, with R2 X, R2 Y, and Q2 of 0.801, 0.985, and 0.849, respectively. Finally, 203 differential metabolites were obtained from CSF from different origins using the variable importance in projection of the OPLS-DA model, 30 of which were identified, and five coumarin compounds were selected as marker compounds discriminating CSF from different origins. Conclusion This work provides a practical strategy for classifying CSF from different origins and offers a research foundation for the quality control of CSF.

A couple of enantiomers of 2, 6-diaminotriptycene ( R, R - 1 and S, S - 1 ) are split by chiral HPLC and their absolute configurations are identified by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technology. Using the enantiomers as monomers, a couple of chiral porous polyimides ( R - FTPI and S - FTPI ) are prepared by polycondensation reactions and display good heat stability, high BET surface area and good solubility in organic solvents. Moreover, both of R - FTPI and S - FTPI can be cast into robust, free-standing films suitable for enantioselective separation with symmetrical chiral selectivity.

A combination of KBr modification and laser processing is utilized to prepare SnO2 films for rigid and flexible perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The KBr modification effectively passivates the defects at the interface between SnO2 and perovskite as well as grain boundaries of the perovskite film. A power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 20.14% is achieved with the KBr-modified SnO2 for the rigid PSCs fabricated under a relative humidity of around 65–75%, compared to the pristine SnO2 films with a PCE of 18.66%. Then, a picosecond ultraviolet laser is employed to process KBr-modified SnO2 films on flexible substrates with a rapid scanning rate of 100 mm s−1. The laser process improves the PCEs and durability of the PSCs. The flexible PSCs fabricated by the laser remain over 80% of their initial PCEs after 1000 bending cycles, higher than those fabricated by the hot plate showing 40% of their initial PCEs after the same bending cycles.

Highly porous carbonaceous nonprecious metal catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction are prepared by carbonization of low-cost metalloporphyrin-based hyper-crosslinked polymers (MPH-X). With high surface area (2768 m2 g-1 ), hierarchical porous structure, and high metal loading (9.97 wt %), the obtained hyperporous carbon MPH-Fe/C catalyst exhibits high oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity with a half-wave potential (0.816 V) that is comparable to the 0.819 V of commercial Pt/C. Stability tests reveal that MPH-Fe/C also exhibits outstanding long-term durability and methanol tolerance. Our findings may offer an alternative approach to produce nonprecious metal ORR catalysts on a large scale owing to the low-cost MPH-X precursors with diverse metal types.

Conventionally, effective mechanical vibration energy harvesting is based on (Pb,Zr)TiO3 (PZT) ceramics, poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) polymers or PVDF/PZT or other piezoelectric composite materials, and their working temperature is normally limited to room temperature (R-T) or below 150 °C. Here, bismuth scandium lead titanate (BiScO3-PbTiO3, abbreviated as BSPT) ceramic is reported which has a high Curie temperature point around 450 °C and its application for high-temperature (H-T) vibration energy harvesting. Experimental results show that it exhibits an excellent H-T piezoelectricity, converting mechanical vibration energy into electric power effectively in a wide temperature range from R-T till 250 °C. This research shows the BSPT piezoelectric energy harvester having the potential application for self-power source of wireless sensor network system in high temperature circumstance.

Two kinds of novel organic microporous polymers TCPs (TCP-A and TCP-B) were prepared by two cost-effective synthetic strategies from the monomer of tricarbazolyltriptycene (TCT). Their structure and properties were characterized by FT-IR, solid (13) C NMR, powder XRD, SEM, TEM, and gas absorption measurements. TCP-B displayed a high surface area (1469 m(2) g(-1) ) and excellent H2 storage (1.70 wt % at 1 bar/77 K) and CO2 uptake abilities (16.1 wt % at 1 bar/273 K), which makes it a promising material for potential application in gas storage.

Plasmonic nanocavities have proved to confine electromagnetic fields into deep subwavelength volumes, implying their potentials for enhanced optical trapping and sensing of nanoparticles. In this review, the fundamentals and performances of various plasmonic nanocavity geometries are explored with specific emphasis on trapping and detection of small molecules and single nanoparticles. These applications capitalize on the local field intensity, which in turn depends on the size of plasmonic nanocavities. Indeed, properly designed structures provide significant local field intensity and deep trapping potential, leading to manipulation of nano-objects with low laser power. The relationship between optical trapping-induced resonance shift and potential energy of plasmonic nanocavity can be analytically expressed in terms of the intercavity field intensity. Within this framework, recent experimental works on trapping and sensing of single nanoparticles and small molecules with plasmonic nanotweezers are discussed. Furthermore, significant consideration is given to conjugation of optical tweezers with Raman spectroscopy, with the aim of developing innovative biosensors. These devices, which take the advantages of plasmonic nanocavities, will be capable of trapping and detecting nanoparticles at the single molecule level.

A quadrangular prismatic tricyclooxacalixarene cage 1 based on tetraphenylethylene (TPE) was efficiently synthesized by a one-pot S(N)Ar condensation reaction. As a result of the porous internal structure in the solid state, cage 1 exhibited a good CO2 uptake capacity of 12.5 wt% and a high selectivity for CO2 over N2 adsorption of 80 (273 K, 1 bar) with a BET surface area of 432 m(2) g(-1). Formation of cage 1 led to the fluorescence of TPE being switched on in solution. The system was employed as a single-molecule platform to study the mechanism of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) by examining the restriction of intramolecular rotation (RIR).

The GOI (grains containing oil inclusions) index is used to distinguish oil zones, oil-water zones and water zones in sandstone oil reservoirs. However, this method cannot be directly applied to carbonate rocks that may not have clear granular textures. In this paper we propose the Effective Grid Containing Oil Inclusions (EGOI) method for carbonate reservoirs. A microscopic view under 10× ocular and 10× objective is divided into 10×10 grids, each with an area of 0.0625 mm×0.0625 mm. An effective grid is defined as one that is cut (touched) by a stylolite, a healed fracture, a vein, or a pore-filling material. EGOI is defined as the number of effective grids containing oil inclusions divided by the total number of effective grids multiplied by 100%. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) transplantation is widely adopted for the curing of osteonecrosis of femoral head (ONFH) in recent years. Furthermore, it is known that introducing hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) into BM-MSCs will greatly improve the therapeutic effect of stem-cell therapy owing to the great angiogenic and anti-fibrotic capabilities of HGF. However, continuing overexpression of HGF in vivo may cause sarcomas, such as Kaposi's sarcoma. Aiming at enhancing the therapeutic effect and preventing the side effects of HGF-modified stem-cell transplantation on ONFH, we sought to construct a gene regulation system to control HGF expression in BM-MSCs rigorously and accurately. We selected baculovirus as the gene vector and introduced pTet-on advanced system into that. Finally, a virus vector vAc(rtTA2s-Ptight-HGF) was successfully built and delivered into BM-MSCs to regulate the accurate expression of HGF. As shown in the results, different levels of HGF expression were verified by ELISA and Western blot with different induction doses of doxycycline (DOX). There was a dose-response relationship between them, and the optimum dose of DOX to induce HGF expression in BM-MSCs in vitro was 1 µg/mL. We conclude that it is feasible to regulate HGF expression in BM-MSCs by baculovirus-mediated one-off transduction.

It remains a great challenge to design and synthesize a porous material for CO2 capture and sensing simultaneously. Herein, strategy of “cage to frameworks” is demonstrated to synthesize fluorescent porous organic polymer (pTOC) by using tetraphenylethylene‐based oxacalixarene cage (TOC) as the monomer. The networked cages (pTOC) have improved porous properties, including Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area and CO2 capture compared with its monomer TOC, because the polymerization overcomes the window‐to‐arene packing modes of cages and turns on their pores. Moreover, pTOC displays prominent reversible fluorescence enhancement in the presence of CO2 in different dispersion systems and fluorescence recovery for CO2 release in the presence of NH3·H2O, and is thus very effective to detect and quantify the fractions of CO2 in a gaseous mixtures.

A suspended cell line from Trichoplusia ni embryos was established, and its susceptibility to Autographa californica multiple nuclear polyhedrosis virus (AcMNPV) infection was investigated. This cell line had characteristics distinct from the BTI-Tn5Bl-4 cell line (Tn5Bl-4) from T. ni in growth, and showed approximately the same responses to AcMNPV infection, production of occlusion bodies, and levels of recombinant protein expression. No clumps were observed at maximum cell density at late-log phase in shake-flask or T-flask cultures, and thus the cells represent a useful new contribution for baculovirus research. The cells consist of two major morphological types: approximately 70% spindle-shaped cells and 30% round cells. The cell line was highly susceptible to virus infection and produced around 107 AcMNPV occlusion bodies per cell, on average. Production of β-galactosidase and secreted alkaline phosphatase was high with 3.97 ± 0.13 × 104IU/mL and 3.48 ± 0.40 IU/mL, respectively. This cell line may be applicable for studies of scale-up production of viruses or baculovirus-insect cell expression. We also believe the new line can be a source for cell clones with higher production of virus and recombinant proteins compared to the parent or other existing cell lines such as Tn5Bl-4.
