Abstract In a recent Nature elegant study, Wang et al. identified CD300ld, a novel functionally highly conserved tumor immunosuppressive receptor, highly expressed specifically on polymorphonuclear myeloid‐derived suppressor cells (PMN‐MDSCs), as well as a key receptor in the regulation of recruitment and immunosuppressive function of PMN‐MDSCs. Targeting CD300ld could remodel the tumor immune microenvironment, resulting in a broad‐spectrum anti‐tumor effect.

Abstract Background This study aimed to develop a prognostic model for lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) associated with mitotic cell cycle. The model will predict the probability of survival at different time points and serve as a reference tool to evaluate the effectiveness of LUAD treatment. Methods A cohort of 442 patients with LUAD from the gene expression omnibus (GEO) database was randomly divided into a training group (n = 299) and a validation group (n = 99). The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO)‐COX algorithm was used to reduce the number of predictors based on the clinicopathological and RNA sequencing data to establish mutant characteristics that could predict patient survival. Additionally, gene ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), gene set variation analysis (GSVA), and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) analyses were conducted on the mutant characteristics. The performance of the developed nomogram was evaluated using calibration curves and the C‐index. Results The mutant characteristics had prognostic value for LUAD and acted as an independent prognostic factor. The mutant characteristics profile derived from the LASSO‐COX algorithm demonstrated a significant association with overall survival in patients with LUAD. Functional annotation based on the mutant score, its involvement in the phase transition of the mitotic cell cycle, and its regulatory processes. The nomogram, which combined the mutant score with clinical factors associated with prognosis, showed robust accuracy in both the training and validation groups. Conclusion This study presents the first individualized model that establishes a mutant score for predicting survival in LUAD. This model can be used as a predictive tool for determining 1‐, 2‐, 3‐, and 5‐year survival probabilities in patients with LUAD.

Abstract Background and Aims Previous research has shown that socioeconomic factors, such as income and education, are associated with blood donation behavior. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence blood donation behavior using a large database of blood donation records and to provide further empirical evidence and insights into the factors that influence blood donation behavior and to identify potential strategies to increase blood donation rates in China. Methods This study employed correlation analysis and regression analysis to investigate the impact of socioeconomic factors on blood donation rates in 36 major cities in China. The study also used the K‐Means clustering algorithm to identify the socioeconomic factors that influence blood donation behavior at the per capita level. Additionally, the study conducted correlation analysis between the donor's age groups and the socioeconomic factors. The indices of economy and education were determined by correlation analysis. Results At the city level, overall economic output and university student populations were positively correlated with total blood donation times. However, at the per capita level, this linear relationship disappeared. By applying the K‐Means clustering algorithm, the cities were divided into subgroups where the linear relationship reemerged. The study also found that the number of college students had a linear relationship with blood donors between the ages of 18–34. Conclusion City characteristics and demographics significantly impact blood donation rates in different ways. A universal policy may have limited effect given the heterogeneity across cities. Tailored interventions targeting specific city clusters and education levels are needed to promote blood donation behavior, especially among youth and students. Investment in education and targeted education on blood donation appear particularly impactful. A combined approach integrating social and economic policies will likely be most effective.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between polymorphisms in CYP2C19 and the single‐dose pharmacokinetics (PKs) of omeprazole in healthy Chinese volunteers. A 20 mg single dose of omeprazole (Losec) enteric‐coated capsules or tablets was orally administered to 656 healthy subjects from eight subcenters. The polymorphic alleles of CYP2C19*2, *3, and *17 were determined by Sanger sequencing and Agena mass array. Plasma concentrations of omeprazole were determined by high‐performance liquid‐chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Abstract Immunotherapy is an attractive treatment strategy for cancer, while its efficiency and safety need to be improved. A dual‐cascade activatable nanopotentiator for sonodynamic therapy (SDT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT)‐cooperated immunotherapy of deep tumors via reshaping adenosine metabolism is herein reported. This nanopotentiator (NPMCA) is constructed through crosslinking adenosine deaminase (ADA) with chlorin e6 (Ce6)‐conjugated manganese dioxide (MnO2) nanoparticles via a reactive oxygen species (ROS)‐cleavable linker. In the tumor microenvironment with ultrasound (US) irradiation, NPMCA mediates CDT and SDT concurrently in deep tumors covered with 2‐cm tissues to produce abundant ROS, which results in dual‐cascade scissoring of ROS‐cleavable linkers to activate ADA within NCMCA to block adenosine metabolism. Moreover, immunogenic cell death (ICD) of dying tumor cells and upregulation of the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) is triggered by the generated ROS and Mn2+ from NPMCA, respectively, leading to activation of antitumor immune response. The potency of immune response is further reinforced by reducing the accumulation of adenosine in tumor microenvironment by the activated ADA. As a result, NPMCA enables CDT and SDT‐cooperated immunotherapy, showing an obviously improved therapeutic efficacy to inhibit the growths of bilateral tumors, in which the primary tumors are covered with 2‐cm tissues.

Abstract Background With the aggravation of the aging of the world population, frailty has become one of the common complications in elderly people. Its diagnosis is not objective, the pathogenesis is not clear, and interventions are not sound, thus intensifying the problem. Furthermore, frailty is closely associated with the occurrence and poor prognosis of coronary atherosclerotic heart disease. Moreover, few studies report on the prevalence of frailty in elderly patients with the chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). Objective We aimed to investigate the prevalence of frailty in elderly patients with CCS. We analyzed the correlation between the blood serum levels of interleukin‐6 (IL‐6), albumin (Alb), and 25‐hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) with frailty in elderly patients with CCS. We have also provided recommendations for helping the objective diagnosis as well as proposed new intervention methods in the future. Methods Two hundred eight‐eight inpatients (≥60 years) with the chronic coronary syndrome were recruited at the Department of Geriatrics, the First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province, China. General information and laboratory examination data were collected. The comprehensive geriatric assessment was conducted via an internet‐based platform of the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (inpatient version) developed by us, among which frailty was assessed by the Chinese version of Fried Frailty Phenotype, a component of the assessment scale. Results Among the total number of old patients with CCS, 87 (30.2%) had no frailty, 93 (32.3%) had early frailty, and 108 (37.5%) had frailty. According to the multivariate logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for confounding factors, IL‐6 (OR = 1.066, 95% CI 1.012–1.127), Alb (OR = 0.740, 95% CI 0.560–0.978), and 25(OH)D (OR = 0.798, 95% CI 0.670–0.949) were independently associated with frailty in the three groups of models. Conclusion IL‐6 proved to be a risk factor for frailty in elderly patients with CCS, while Alb and 25(OH)D were protective factors, which make the potential targets for predicting and intervening frailty in elderly patients with CCS.

As a chronic metabolic disease, diabetes mellitus (DM) is broadly characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose. Novel epidemiological studies demonstrate that some diabetic patients have an increased risk of developing dementia compared with healthy individuals. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most frequent cause of dementia and leads to major progressive deficits in memory and cognitive function. Multiple studies have identified an increased risk for AD in some diabetic populations, but it is still unclear which diabetic patients will develop dementia and which biological characteristics can predict cognitive decline. Although few mechanistic metabolic studies have shown clear pathophysiological links between DM and AD, there are several plausible ways this may occur. Since AD has many characteristics in common with impaired insulin signaling pathways, AD can be regarded as a metabolic disease. We conclude from the published literature that the body’s diabetic status under certain circumstances such as metabolic abnormalities can increase the incidence of AD by affecting glucose transport to the brain and reducing glucose metabolism. Furthermore, due to its plentiful lipid content and high energy requirement, the brain’s metabolism places great demands on mitochondria. Thus, the brain may be more susceptible to oxidative damage than the rest of the body. Emerging evidence suggests that both oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are related to amyloid-β (Aβ) pathology. Protein changes in the unfolded protein response or endoplasmic reticulum stress can regulate Aβ production and are closely associated with tau protein pathology. Altogether, metabolic disorders including glucose/lipid metabolism, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and protein changes caused by DM are associated with an impaired insulin signal pathway. These metabolic factors could increase the prevalence of AD in diabetic patients via the promotion of Aβ pathology.

In order to study the leaching characteristics of hardened cement paste by flowing environmental water, indoor simulated leaching tests of Portland cement paste were carried out at different flow velocities with home-made flow field device and tap water as the erosion medium. By means of mechanical properties tests, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Rietveld full-spectrum quantitative analysis of specimens after leaching at different ages, the change rules of the flexural strength, main phase composition, and mass fraction of the specimens after leaching were obtained. The results show that, within 90 days, the flow rate in the test has no obvious effect on the leaching of hardened cement paste. With the increase in age, the leaching of hardened cement paste gets more obvious. Rietveld full-spectrum quantitative analysis shows that the leaching of hardened cement paste changes with the relative content of CaCO3 and Ca(OH)2. The higher the relative content of CaCO3 is, the better compaction and leaching resistance the paste has. The leaching resistance of hardened cement paste is also related to the gradient of Ca(OH)2. The smaller the gradient is, the better the leaching resistance is. The Rietveld full-spectrum quantitative analysis method can be used as a method to evaluate the leaching effect of hardened cement paste.

Abstract The perovskite oxide LaNiO3 is a promising oxygen electrocatalyst for renewable energy storage and conversion technologies. Here, it is shown that strontium substitution for lanthanum in coherently strained, epitaxial LaNiO3 films (La1−x SrxNiO3) significantly enhances the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, resulting in performance at x = 0.5 comparable to the state‐of‐the‐art catalyst Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ. By combining X‐ray photoemission and X‐ray absorption spectroscopies with density functional theory, it is shown that an upward energy shift of the O 2p band relative to the Fermi level occurs with increasing x in La1−xSrxNiO3. This alloying step strengthens Ni 3d–O 2p hybridization and decreases the charge transfer energy, which in turn accounts for the enhanced OER activity.

For the issue concerning internal noise reduction of Al-made cylindrical shell structure, the noise control method of laying melamine foam (MF) layer is adopted for in-shell noise attenuation experiments of Al and Al/MF cylindrical shells and corresponding internal noise response spectrograms are obtained. Based on the Virtual.Lab acoustics software, a finite element model is established for the analysis of noise in the Al/MF cylinder shell and numerical simulation computation is conducted for the acoustic mode and in-shell acoustic response; the correctness of the finite element model is verified via comparison with measured data. On this basis, influence rules of different MF laying rate and different laying thickness on acoustic cavity resonance response within the low and medium frequency range of 100–400 Hz are studied. It is indicated that noise reduction increases with MF laying rate, but the amplification decreases along with the rising of MF laying rate; noise reduction per unit thickness decreases with the increase of laying thickness, while noise reduction per unit area increases.

Background. In order to assess the diagnostic accuracy of linear EUS for evaluating clinically suggestive CBD stones in high-risk groups. Methods. 202 patients with clinically suggestive CBD stones in high-risk groups who underwent linear EUS examination between January 2012 and January 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with stone extraction or surgical choledochoscopy was only performed when a CBD stone was detected by linear EUS. Cases that were negative for CBD stones were followed up for at least 6 months. Results. Of 202 enrolled patients, 126 were positive for CBD stones according to linear EUS findings. 124 patients successfully underwent ERCP, and ERCP failed in 2 who were later successfully treated by surgical intervention. There were 2 false-positive cases with positive findings for CBD stones on ERCP. Among 76 patients without CBD stones, no false-negative cases were identified during the mean 6-month follow-up. Linear EUS had sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values for the detection of CBD stones of 100%, 92.88%, 98.21%, and 100%, respectively. Conclusions. Linear EUS is a safe and efficacious diagnostic tool for evaluating clinically suggestive CBD stones with high risk of choledocholithiasis. Performing linear EUS prior to ERCP in patients with symptoms suggestive of CBD stones can reduce unnecessary ERCP procedures.

Transmit antenna selection (TAS) is an efficient way for improving the system performance of spatial modulation (SM) systems. However, in the case of large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration, the computational complexity of TAS in large-scale SM will be extremely high, which prohibits the application of TAS-SM in a real large-scale MIMO system for future 5G wireless communications. For solving this problem, in this paper, two novel low-complexity TAS schemes, named as norm-angle guided subset division (NAG-SD) and threshold-based NAG-SD ones, are proposed to offer a better tradeoff between computational complexity and system performance. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can achieve better performance than traditional TAS schemes, while effectively reducing the computational complexity in large-scale spatial modulation systems.
